National Survey Shows That Two-Thirds of Americans Think that Clinical Research Studies are Safe

National Survey Shows That Two-Thirds of Americans Think that Clinical Research Studies are Safe

A national survey unveils new information about public opinion regarding clinical research. The survey of 1000 adults was conducted on December 14 and 15 following recent media attention on the safety of widely-used prescription medications. The survey, conducted by non-profit CISCRP (The Center for Information & Study on Clinical Research Participation) and Opinion Dynamics Corporation, a market research and polling company, found that an overwhelming two thirds (66%) of respondents felt that clinical research studies are safe. In addition, more than half (57%) of respondents would have greater trust in clinical research information if the results were made available on a public website or registry.

BOSTON, MA (PRWEB) January 3, 2005

Two-thirds (66%) of Americans think that clinical research studies are safe for those who participate, according to a nationwide survey by The Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP) and Opinion Dynamics Corporation (ODC).

The survey of 1000 adults was conducted on December 14 and 15 to gain insight into public perceptions about the clinical research process following recent media attention on the safety of widely-used prescription medications. The CISCRP-ODC survey also found that more than half (57%) of respondents would have greater trust in clinical research information if the results were made available on a public website or registry. Detailed results of the survey are available on the CISCRP website at www. ciscrp. org.

CISCRP President Roni Thaler said, “Government agencies and research sponsors are evaluating and implementing initiatives in an effort to provide greater transparency to address concerns raised by the medical community, policymakers, the public and the media. We’re delighted to be conducting this research in collaboration with ODC.”

"The public clearly plays a vital role in clinical research,” said Richard Greif, Project Director at Opinion Dynamics. “As the debate continues about how drug companies and the federal government can best balance the risks and rewards of clinical research while maintaining the public's trust and safety, we will continue to track how this affects their perception of clinical research."

This is the first in a series of polls that CISCRP and ODC plan on conducting to increase understanding of the publicÂ’s views regarding clinical research participation.

Located in Cambridge, MA, Opinion Dynamics Corporation (ODC) is a national leader in market research, polling and consulting in healthcare, associations, education, energy, financial services, food services, transportation, and travel. TRICOR Systems Inc. (Elgin, IL) today announced Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry (MD&DI) magazine has selected the Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA) delivery system as a winner of the 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA) in the "dental instruments, equipment and supplies" product category.

Elgin, IL (PRWEB) May 20, 2008

TRICOR Systems Inc. a Medical Device & Electronic Contract Manufacturer (http://www. tricor-systems. com) today announced Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry (MD&DI) magazine has selected the Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA) delivery system as a winner of the 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award (http://www. devicelink. com/expo/awards/awards/index. php? catId=-1&year=2008&view=View) (MDEA) in the "dental instruments, equipment and supplies" product category. Of the 33 products to receive an MDEA this year, TRICOR's design of the STA system was one of only two winning products that serve dental practitioners.

Sponsored by MD&DI, the MDEA competition is the premier awards program for the medical technology community. It is the only award program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. MDEA-winning entries excel in the areas of product innovation, design and engineering. To select the 2008 winners, a comprehensive review of the entries was performed by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel of third party jurors with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, medicine and diagnostics. Entries were evaluated on the basis of their design and engineering features, including innovative use of material, user-related functions that improve health care delivery, features that provide enhanced benefits to the patient, and the ability of the product development team to overcome design and engineering challenges so that the product meets its clinical objectives. The 2008 jury selected 33 winners in 10 medical product categories.

Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA) delivery system is the first embedded computer-controlled local anesthetic system where just one injection at a single tooth is all that is needed. No longer will a dental patient have to endure a half numb-mouth.

"Everyone at TRICOR Systems is honored to be selected to receive the Medical Design Excellence Awards. It not only validates our team's hard work in conceptualizing, designing and manufacturing an innovative and industry changing product, but shows that TRICOR Systems will continue to have an impact in the development of new medical devices for a long time to come," said Thomas Allen, Sales and Marketing Manager of TRICOR Systems.

Founded in 1976, TRICOR Systems Inc. has been focusing on helping medical start-up companies bring their ideas to market for the past 12 years. TRICOR's in-house engineering and manufacturing allows them to provide a turnkey solution for companies looking for an electro / mechanical contract equipment manufacturer. Expanding Horizons Vascular Surgeons Train in New York on Vagus Nerve Stimulation

New York (PRWEB) November 16, 2005

Vascular surgeon’s world-wide participated in a six-hour training course today reviewing the techniques and requirements to perform Vagus Nerve Stimulation Therapy (VNS) during the 32nd annual VEITHsymposium.™ The FDA recently approved VNS for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This treatment requires surgical implantation of a device by a procedure similar to a carotid endarterectomy performed by a vascular surgeon.

Frank J. Veith, M. D., the William J. von Liebig Chair in Vascular Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center and Professor and Vice Chairman of Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, (Bronx, NY) said, “Vascular surgeons possess all the skills and training to perform VNS because of their extensive knowledge and understanding when it comes to operating within the carotid sheath. The vagus nerve lies deep and in between the common carotid artery and the jugular vein.”

This treatment offers hope to the millions who have failed to respond to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), a combination of antidepressant medications and psychotherapies.” VNS therapy can be performed on patients 18 years of age and older who experience a major depressive episode, and have not had an adequate response to four or more antidepressant treatments. It is expected that over 80,000 implants will be performed within 4 years.

An implanted pacemaker-like device delivers mild, intermittent pulsed signals to the patient’s left vagus nerve, which then activates various areas of the brain. The device is implanted in the patient’s left chest area. A thin thread-like wire, attached to the generator, runs under the skin to the left vagus nerve in the neck. The procedure takes approximately one to two hours. Physicians can adjust the stimulation duration, frequency and intensity.

About VEITHsymposium™: Now in its fourth decade, VEITHsymposium™ has been the epicenter of physician education for the global vascular community. This international congress attracts over 2,500 thought leaders in the field. More than 250 international clinician/educators present the latest topics, advances, and data and then validate these concepts through the dynamic interactive faculty/audience exchange that ends each session.

VEITHsymposium™ is sponsored by Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY) with CME credit issued by Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY).

Lucies Farm Learns it's not Easy Being "Green"

Lucies Farm Learns it's not Easy Being "Green"

"It's not easy being green," says cattle breeder Craig Walsh who, with wife Marjorie owns Lucies Farm Ltd, one of the U. K.'s premier sources for Japanese-style Scottish | Kobe beef. The Walshes are petitioning the planners at the Malvern Hills District Council to approve a "change of use" for their property for permission to create Lord's Wood -- a 'green' burial park.(www. luciesfarm. com)

(PRWEB) January 24, 2005

The Walshes are petitioning the planners at the Malvern Hills District Council to approve a "change of use" for their property for permission to create Lord's Wood -- a 'green' burial park.

The plan to convert a private wood at Colletts Green in Powick, near Worcester, into Lord's Wood has raised health and safety concerns among some area residents. "A few people were quite vocal at a recent planning meeting," says Walsh, "but I think if they had the facts their opinions would be quite different." He hopes that an ad campaign aimed at area residents will dispel misinformation and generate support for the burial park.

The complete planning application and experts' reports can be viewed at www. luciesfarm. com/green (http://www. luciesfarm. com/green) --- and comments can be added on the internet forum.

U. K. Leads the World

Great Britain is at the forefront of the global green movement, Walsh says, noting that there are over 200 green cemeteries in the U. K. versus only a handful in the U. S. Yet even though the movement is growing rapidly, "there is still a tremendous amount of confusion about just what green burial really is," he says.

The concept of a green burial, says Walsh, is "natural simplicity." He is quick to point out that there is no embalming. "That means nothing toxic or chemical is used that could get into the ground." Fabric burial shrouds or simple, biodegradable coffins take the place of caskets made of metal. An additional key distinction is that green burial parks do not permit the use of concrete liners or vaults.

"The concrete in liners prevents the ground above the coffin from settling naturally," explains Walsh whose dedication to preserving the integrity of the landscape is evident. Guided by advice from the Forestry Commission and consultant geologists, he says he is confident there would be no risk of spoiling the wood or polluting any water courses and plans to educate people with an ad campaign in the Worcester Evening News and the Malvern Gazette.

Death and Renewal

Walsh believes that green burial grounds are "a valuable way for farmers and local authorities to encourage the preservation of wildlife habitats and forests" where native trees, wild flowers and animals are protected. "A portion of money paid for burial plots would be ploughed back into the woodland," he says which will ensure the longevity of the area and its natural inhabitants.

"Green burial grounds allow butterfly colonies, grasshoppers, insects, bats, voles and owls to multiply," says Walsh. And rather than an unnatural landscape of carefully manicured cemetery grounds, "native plants and wildflowers are allowed to flourish," giving the burial ground new "life" as a nature preserve.

"People take comfort in knowing the bodies of their loved ones will decompose and become part of the 'circle of life,'" says Walsh. "And although it will be a place of death in some ways, of course, Lord's Wood will always be a self-renewing habitat for living things."

Dead Sea Salt and Skin Care Products Helping Psoriasis Sufferers

Dead Sea Salt and Skin Care Products Helping Psoriasis Sufferers

Skin care and cosmetic products from The Dead Sea, such as mud, bath salt, hand creams and lotions, are clinically proven to help relieve psoriasis, eczema, acne and other skin ailments.

West Hills, CA (PRWEB) October 12, 2005

With more than 5% of the world’s population suffering from Psoriasis (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com/dead-sea-reviews. htm), a skin disease expressed by redness and dry patches of skin, the ailment is no freak occurrence. While there is still no total cure for the disease, many of those affected with the ailment are turning to Dead Sea cosmetics (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com) made with Dead Sea Salt (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com/dead-sea-salt-benefits. htm) and minerals for a more natural based source of relief. The Dead Sea is located in Israel and Jordan and attracts thousands of tourists every year, seeking to bathe in the it’s legendary waters and experience the healing and beautifying powers of it’s mineral rich Dead Sea Mud (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com/dead-sea-mud-benefits. htm) and salt contents. The sea has been around for centuries and has attracted many legendary historical and biblical figures. Cleopatra was fond of the high mineral composition of natural skin care products made with minerals from The Dead Sea and built cosmetic factories on the shores of the sea to harvest the salt and mineral contents.

Several clinical studies have been done in the last thirty years that show that the highly concentrated salt content of the Dead Sea has not only beauty and anti aging properties, but also carries great skin health value. The studies showed that regularly bathing with water from The Dead Sea (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com) or using such products as hand cream (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com/browseproducts/Dead-Sea-Mineral-Hand-Cream. HTML), Dead Sea soap (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com/browseproducts/Dead-Sea-Mud-Soap. HTML) and bath salts (http://tinyurl. com/duegl), actually helps relieve psoriasis symptoms over a 6 week regiment.

Many people find out about the health and beauty properties of Dead Sea products when they visit Israel, either as tourists or on a church sponsored trip that carries religious meaning. The Dead Sea scrolls, recently discovered made the The Dead Sea a household word and really popularized the age-old region. With that discovery many more people began to find out what the local people already new for centuries -- that skin care products (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com) made with the minerals from the salty lake carry magical properties. One of the main reasons why the sea has so many therapeutical abilities in its ingredients is the fact that being the lowest point on earth, it has the highest amount of barometric pressure on it. It’s also not connected to any other body of water so as its salty waters evaporate the minerals and salt are left behind in much higher concentration than anywhere else in the world.

Many say that the Dead Sea is an enigma, since it has such a depressing name, but its mineral contents bring forth enhanced beauty, health and life. Since Psoriasis is an ailment which afflicts so many people -- an effective all natural, psoriasis treatment (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com) option is highly welcome. Not every one can make it out to Israel for several weeks of skin treatment and because of this many people today prefer to use these products in their home. The products can be found online as well as in spas and malls across the county.

“The word has been spreading and after trying Dead Sea products many people fall in love with them,” says Alex Keyan, President of Cleopatra’s Choice Dead Sea Products (http://www. cleopatraschoice. com), “We have customers all across the country and even in Europe who come back over and over again to replenish on these products. Many find that it’s a natural and healthy way to get rid of wrinkles as well as treat psoriasis or acne. So far our mud masks (http://tinyurl. com/dpa86) have been the most popular.

The information meetings will focus on assisting responders in managing the effects of disaster-relief-related stress and helping in their transition upon returning home.

The first of the information meetings is planned at the university’s Portland Center near Tigard from 6:30 to 8 p. m. Tuesday, March 2. Subsequent meetings are set for Tuesday, April 6, and Tuesday, May 4, at the same time and location.

The institute, coordinated by the university’s Graduate Department of Counseling, is designed “to promote the resiliency of responders who serve individuals and communities experiencing severe stress and trauma,” according to Anna Berardi, institute director.

Discussion at the information meetings will focus on learning about the impact of traumatic stress and how to help others while remaining socially, emotionally and spiritually healthy. Family members age 14 and older are welcome to attend.

In addition, the institute offers specialized continuing education workshops for disaster aid organizations. Confidential debriefing activities for returning disaster aid workers are also available.

For information about these and additional responder resources visit the Trauma Response Institute’s website at responder. georgefox. edu or contact TRI director Berardi at 503-554-6144.

TSU HOSTS NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MINORITY DISABILITY RESEARCH

TSU HOSTS NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MINORITY DISABILITY RESEARCH

The Center for Minority Training and Capacity Building for Disabilities Research at Texas Southern University (TSU) recently hosted a national symposium, “Improving the Lives of Minorities with Disabilities by Breaking Down Barriers to Disability and Rehabilitation Research” in Washington, D. C., the culmination of a three-year, $1 million grant funded by the Department of Education National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).

(PRWEB) September 14, 2002

HOUSTON, TX (August 24, 2002) – The Center for Minority Training and Capacity Building for Disabilities Research at Texas Southern University (TSU) recently hosted a national symposium, “Improving the Lives of Minorities with Disabilities by Breaking Down Barriers to Disability and Rehabilitation Research” in Washington, D. C., as the culmination of a three-year, $1 million grant funded by the Department of Education National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).

According to Dr. Irvine Epps, projector director of the Center and dean of TSU’s College of Continuing Education, “There is insufficient data and insufficient ‘culturally competent’ data on this [minority] population to offer substantial guidance for policymaking or service development as it relates to disability and related secondary conditions.”

“Because scientific research shapes governmental policy, funding priorities, and program development, there needs to be more of a concerted effort on the part of all minority researchers to get involved,” she said.

Recent studies show that minorities with disabilities make up the largest percentage of disabled Americans, yet, are more at risk for disability and secondary health conditions, have fewer personal and family resources, have less knowledge and understanding of externally available resources, and are less well off socioeconomically then their white peers.

Accordingly, the symposium was designed to address these issues and provide minority researchers with an opportunity to present, discuss, and disseminate their latest research findings, such as innovations in research methodologies, best practices in grants management and grant writing, the role of technology in improving the lives of people with disabilities, instructional and individual capacity building initiatives, majority and minority institutional collaborations, and the impact of secondary conditions on disability and aging.

Participants were also encouraged to conduct roundtable discussions concerning the limited participation of minority researchers and institutions of higher learning in disability and rehabilitation research. The lack of financial incentives and a lack of grant opportunities on the part of minority researchers were some of the barriers addressed.

Attendees from virtually all areas of the nationÂ’s college and university systems, state and national institutions, agencies, commissions, associations, foundations, and businesses were in attendance.

Notable figures at the conference included: Dr. Bobby L. Wilson, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, TSU; Dr. Mitchell Rice, director of Race and Ethnic Studies Institute and Professor of Public Administration/Political Science, Texas A & M University; Dr. Robert Pasternack, Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, NIDRR; Steven Tingus, director of NIDRR; Larry Burt, acting deputy, Minority Health; and keynote speaker Nathan Stinson, Jr., of RADM.

Tally's Treasures Expands Diabetes Awareness

Tally's Treasures Expands Diabetes Awareness

Tally's Treasures Global Jewelry and Home Decor Importers Expand Awareness of Juvenile Diabetes Through Their Logo Branding CafePress Shops. Existing clients of Tally's Treasures are encouraged to also participate in logo branded merchandise and Diabetes medical alert ID shirts to help Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Tally's is "PUTTING A FACE ON JUVENILE DIABETES" making it a personal mission.

Roswell, GA (PRWEB) March 13, 2006

Tally's Treasures Global Imports (www. tallys-treasures. com)has announced that they are aggressively moving to make jewelry, home decor and now their own branded items available to show awareness of the diabetes epidemic in children in the United States! Tally's Treasures has been a privately held online ecommerce company importing beautiful silver, gold and designer inspired jewelry on major auction and online shops for the past three years. They have recently opened a Cafepress shop, www. cafepress. com/tallystreasures (http://www. cafepress. com/tallystreasures) that houses a t-shirts, mugs and other items with their branding, mainly for their loyal clients to purchase. What is being publicized now is that proceeds from the sales of these types of branded merchandise will help support the Juvenile Diabetes research.

"Diabetes has become an epidemic among our children here in the United States. Whether they are type 1 (Juvenile Diabetes) or Type 2 (Adult Onset Diabetes), our children are suffering and we must become aggressive in our fight against this condition," said founder of Tally's Treasures, Maria Schlossberg, whose son has been recently diagnosed as a juvenile diabetic, needing daily insulin shots.

"Through our main offerings of jewelry and also now our two new CafePress shops, one for Tally's Treasures branding and the other specific to medical alert ID merchandise, www. phatdiabetics. com, we are hoping to generate sales that will boost charity contributions for diabetes. Our first charity has become JDRF. org, but we will also be looking into other diabetes charities in the near future. The most important thing is that we start now, today...and waste no time in generating sales to combat this health crisis," further explained Schlossberg.

Awareness has become a major passion for this company. Everywhere that the owner and her son go, they try to wear a diabetes alert shirt, to proudly show that they are not embarrassed by this condition and also to promote acceptance and awareness. It has generated a buzz around the community. "People come up to us and ask about the shirts and of course everyone has a story to relate about a friend or relative that has diabetes. It is really an ice breaker," said Schlossberg.

The shirts are all designed with great input from other diabetics and of course children. There are shirts based on sports themes, and professions. Just something for everyone. There are even shirts based on favorite foods, such as pizza, pasta, etc.

Will there be other CafePress shops opened by Tally's Treasures based on other health conditions?

"That is way too soon to talk about. Right now we are focusing on this condition, because it is the one that we are intimately familiar with. Our t-shirt and other items' slogan and sayings reflect the deep knowledge about diabetes. The humorous sayings are exactly what people with this condition would be thinking and wanting to say to others about this disease. We don't think that we can bring the same understanding to other health issues that we have not experienced ourselves," explained Schlossberg.

Lloyds TSB Highlights the Plight of Recession Novices

Lloyds TSB Highlights the Plight of Recession Novices

Lloyds TSB study highlights the plight of recession novices as the financial recession starts to hit the real economy.

(PRWEB) April 5, 2009

Lloyds TSB study highlights the plight of the 13.5 million recession novices in the UK, as the financial recession hits the real economy

According to a new study* from Lloyds TSB the current economic downturn is the first recession which over one in four of British adults** have experienced in their adult life. While recession veterans are realistic about what to expect, these recession novices are more optimistic and less prepared to change their lifestyles.

The report found 21% of all Brits -- regardless of past experience -- felt the current climate has led them to suffer from 'recession depression'. 17% claimed they had sleepless nights worrying about personal finances and 36% are spending more time at home.

The report indicated that a third of recession veterans feel better prepared for today's economic woes because they have lived through a downturn before, although 44% acknowledged it feels very different to last time. Many said their confidence comes down to better financial management. 68% felt better prepared because they are more careful and don't overspend (compared to 57% of novices) and 66% said they are better prepared because they don't rely on credit to fund their lifestyles. 56% of those with recession experience simply thought they were more realistic than younger generations about how much they can spend.

Corinne Sweet, Psychologist and author commented: "When times are bad and money is tight, people experience fear and anxiety, making them more conservative and less adventurous and expansive overall. Recession novices will be feeling the greatest shock, and worrying about how to maintain their lifestyles while paying off debts, while those that have lived through it before will probably cope better, reverting to old methods of survival."

Recession veterans are taking sensible steps to rein in spending, like buying cheaper brands (42%) and becoming more frugal. Novices are less prepared to take drastic steps. Just 24% admitted drastically cutting their spending (compared to 30% of old timers) and only a fifth are becoming more frugal compared to 39% of recession old timers. Recession novices are also less prepared to cut back on holidays and breaks away with 19% cutting back compared with a quarter of recession veterans.

To help customers during this difficult period, Lloyds TSB has created a guidance microsite for people looking for financial help. Savvy Guidance (http://www. lloydstsbsavvyguidance. com/ (http://www. lloydstsbsavvyguidance. com/)) is an online resource providing useful tips and information on managing finances in the current climate, along with interactive explanations of the credit crunch, a jargon buster, FAQs and real life video stories showing how the guidance and support from a financial health specialist, can help in times of financial difficulty.

Results have been weighted to nationally representative criteria. ** Based on UK population figures and that anyone aged 34 or below will not have been an adult during the last recession (1992). This equals 13,580,000 UK adults (28.3% of 47,778,000 UK adult population) who have not lived through a recession before in their adult life.

Young Entrepreneur Creates a Curly Hair Website Based on Her Own Need -- Attracting Thousands of Visitors Nationwide

Young Entrepreneur Creates a Curly Hair Website Based on Her Own Need -- Attracting Thousands of Visitors Nationwide

The top beauty site on the Net helps women make their curls look fabulous!

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) March 2, 2005

A young entrepreneur from Toronto, Ontario, has launched a Web site www. CurlyHairSalon. com to help multi-ethnic curly haired women worldwide in the quest to find professional tricks of the trade to care for their naturally curly hair. CurlyHairSalon. com is announcing an online presence today as the public's helpful companion in finding the best information on curly hair for todayÂ’s woman.

Curly hair has been one of the most misunderstood and celebrated hair textures world wide. Because of this, curly haired women need as much help as possible finding the right information, products and advice to care for their curly locks. There are a number of women who have stopped straightening their curly hair and are now embracing their curls. And with a huge selection of styles, products and information, it can be an overwhelming task trying to determine the best option for them. Curlyhairsalon. com was launched to give naturally curly haired women simple styling options that they can perform at home at a fraction of the cost theyÂ’d spend at a salon.

For Janice Johnson the founder and owner of CurlyHairSalon. com, she made this overwhelming task an easy one for thousands of curly haired women worldwide. Through her research on the internet, Johnson realized that there was a large community of curly haired women like herself who needed support and assistance in caring for their naturally curly hair. Because of this, CurlyHairSalon. com was born.

"There were a lot of sites offering some good information, but I couldn't find all of that information in one place. The internet lacked an online resource center for multi-ethnic women with curly hair that addressed issues like styling options, how-to's, transitioning tips and healthy eating - which is a very important factor in attaining healthy hair," said Johnson, founder and owner of CurlyHairSalon. com. "Our site is the perfect venue for achieving these goals".

The website includes a monthly newsletter with informative articles and tips on recommended products for different curly hair textures, styling options, expert advice and interviews with stylists; there are natural hair recipes and natural hair products. There is also a directory of curly hair salons all across North America that readers can reference to find a stylist in their area.

CurlyHairSalon. com started as a need for the founder with the twinkle of an eye and now has grown to one of the Net's top beauty sites attracting thousands of visitors per month. Although visitors are typically from Canada and the U. S., the site has visitors from all over the world including Brazil, Germany, Australia, Switzerland and Greece.

By visiting curlyhairsalon. com, it's an opportunity to get the best curly haired information on the Net.

CurlyHairSalon. com can be found on the World Wide Web at:

Http://www. curlyhairsalon. com (http://www. curlyhairsalon. com)

About CurlyHairSalon. com:

40-Plus Women "Tired of Feeling Bad" are Feeling Better: Doctor Presents Free Seminar

40-Plus Women "Tired of Feeling Bad" are Feeling Better: Doctor Presents Free Seminar

Pre-menopausal and menopausal women can reconnect with their health by teaming up with Integrative Medicine for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. On National Women's Checkup Day, Dr. Joseph Sciabbarrasi will be speaking to women about using this innovative approach to women's health issues.

Los Angeles (PRWEB) April 29, 2008

In honor of National Women's Health Week, Joseph Sciabbarrasi, M. D. will be presenting a free lecture for women, ''Understanding Hormone Replacement Therapy,'' on May 12, 2008, 6:30 - 8:30 pm. The seminar addresses the escalating rise in women in their 40 and 50's who are suffering from a variety of pre-menopausal symptoms (http://www. holisticdoctorlosangeles. com) which are often misunderstood and misdiagnosed. Many women are told that this is a normal process of aging, that these problems are to be expected and that this is as good as it gets. Dr. Sciabbarrasi, who is a specialist in women's health and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, is offering an alternative.

One patient, Diane Brooke, said it clearly, "I'm tired of feeling bad." As a 53 year old customer service executive, mother of two, also caring for an aging parent, she had consulted her internal medicine specialist. She had a full exam and laboratory testing and was told all of her results were normal. "I was becoming terribly depressed. My joints ached and felt stiff, it was hard to concentrate and stay focused. I was waking up several times nightly to urinate and having difficulty returning to sleep. I felt anxious for no reason and was becoming absentminded over things I should easily remember. For the first time in my life I felt old. Worst of all, my libido and interest in sex was gone, along with my energy."

But instead of seeing a psychiatrist, Diane chose a completely different path. Through a friend's recommendation she sought out a holistic doctor in Los Angeles (http://www. holisticdoctorlosangeles. com) for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (http://www. holisticdoctorlosangeles. com). "Normal exams and labs are the rule and not the exception," says Dr. Sciabbarrasi, a graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine and a practitioner of a new branch of medical care called holistic and integrative medicine. "Labs and exams could not measure Diane's true situation. Her symptoms were very consistent with the common hormonal problems women experience before and during menopause."

In addition to Diane's symptoms, many women experience weight gain, night sweats, vaginal dryness, hair loss and mood swings. In Diane's case, a woman who was an efficient, skillful manager of her personal and professional life had steadily become overwhelmed by daily living. Under Dr. Sciabbarrasi's supervision, specialized lab testing was performed which showed hormonal deficiencies which explained her symptoms. "I found out my symptoms were real, not all in my head. And treatment was available."

Women from every culture, race and walk of life struggle with these problems as they age. Integrative medical doctors combine conventional testing with more innovative approaches to chronic conditions such as acupuncture, nutrition, intravenous vitamins (http://www. holisticdoctorlosangeles. com), homeopathy (http://www. holisticdoctorlosangeles. com) - and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Bioidentical hormones are exactly the same hormones that our bodies produce.

"We use these instead of synthetic hormones because they have great benefit with a much lower incidence of side effects," Dr. Sciabbarrasi explains. While they are beneficial, Sciabbarrasi does not think they are a panacea. He emphasizes adequate sleep, dietary modification, exercise, supplements, and living a life in balance.

Dr. Sciabbarrasi also offers chelation therapy for toxic metals (http://www. holisticdoctorlosangeles. com), neurotransmitter evaluation and intracellular nutrient and antioxidant analysis. Since opening his practice with these different therapies, Dr. Sciabbarrasi has seen and helped thousands of women - many with the same problems as Diane faced.

Within her first month of treatment, Diane was already sleeping much better. Four months later, she was beaming. "I can't believe how much better I feel. I felt out of control, crying - almost completely gone away. Now I enjoy life again."

Women of all ages are encouraged to spend National Women's Checkup Day checking out Dr. Sciabbarrasi's free lecture on Monday, May 12, 2008, 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the Westside Pavilion, 10800 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064, Community room B, level 3, behind Landmark Theatres.

Belleville, IL (Vocus) July 31, 2008

Financial and life planning decisions are among the most critical for individuals newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, according to Allsup, which represents people nationwide for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits (SSDI).

“Solid financial planning is always important, but absolutely essential when someone faces the prospect of being unable to work,” said Paul Gada, a tax attorney and Allsup’s personal financial planning director. He will address, “Financial and Life Planning: Staying in Control,” at the sixth annual Young-Onset Parkinson’s Network Conference in Atlanta set for Thursday, Aug. 7, through Saturday, Aug. 9. The National Parkinson Foundation is presenting the conference, held at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center.

Mr. Gada will explain available options to protect and manage people’s assets, especially when they can no longer work because of Parkinson’s disease. The session will cover financial planning and lost income, estate planning, tax issues, small-business transition planning, ongoing healthcare needs and the role of care partners in the process.

Mary Dale Walters, Allsup’s senior vice president of consumer sales and marketing, will address, “Social Security Disability: Getting What You Deserve.” She will share insights on how to navigate the complexities of the SSDI program. Allsup has successfully represented more than 100,000 people in the SSDI process.

The Young-Onset Parkinson’s Network Conference, sponsored by Augusta, Ga.-based MCGHealth Neuroscience Center, is coordinated by and for people living with the disease. Keynote speaker is Tom Curran, co-anchor of WTVT-Channel 13 in Tampa Bay, Fla. Mr. Curran, who has been with the station since February 1994, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and is actively involved in local and national fundraising efforts.

Parkinson’s is a brain disorder that affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans. The National Parkinson Foundation reports that an estimated 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Studies have shown that as many as one in 15 of those with the disease are under age 50.
