Private Partnerships Will Develop High-Efficiency Homes

Wilmington, Del. (Vocus) August 11, 2010

Building Media Inc. (BMI), a DuPont subsidiary, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will lead one of 15 research and deployment partnerships to help dramatically improve the energy efficiency of American homes - the Building America Retrofit Alliance (BARA). The 15 teams, appointed by the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE), will receive a total of up to $30 million for the initial 18 months to deliver innovative energy efficiency strategies to the residential market and address barriers to bringing high-efficiency homes within reach of all Americans. Each team will each receive between $500,000 and $2.5 million depending on performance.

“The BARA team will focus exclusively on the home renovation and retrofit market, with a key focus on developing, deploying and promoting technically sound, cost-effective measures to radically improve home performance,” said Douglas J. Baker, Americas business director - DuPont Building Innovations. “DuPont’s BMI is uniquely qualified to lead this team. We have leading science and expertise in developing energy-efficient systems. Coupled with our on-line education programs, we will lead the team to bridge the gap between research and implementation to meet the DOE’s energy efficiency goals.”

The BARA team will focus on innovative market delivery strategies to improve energy efficiency in our nation's existing homes across the United States. This team has very unique capabilities in the areas of training and outreach. Additional team members include Steve Easley and Associates, Confluence Communications, Louisiana State University, Enterprise Community Partners, Institute for Business and Home Safety, Hancock Software, and DuPont and BMI, among others.

"Home energy efficiency is one of the easiest, most immediate and most cost-effective ways to reduce carbon pollution and save money on energy bills, while creating new jobs," said Secretary of Energy Steven Chu. "By developing and using tools to reduce residential energy use, we will spur economic growth here in America and help homeowners make cost-cutting improvements in their homes."

With Building Media Inc., DuPont is the only company with an on-line training program for the building and construction industry and more than 40 years of experience, with leading brands such as DuPont™ Tyvek® Weatherization Systems and Corian® and Zodiaq® surfaces.

New Report into Process Analysis Highlights the Gap between Talk and Action

New Report into Process Analysis Highlights the Gap between Talk and Action

An independent survey sponsored by Corporate Modelling highlights the gaps between the marketing talk and the user reality

Glasgow and London (PRWeb UK) April 7, 2009

The 'Mapping & Modelling' Survey report (http://www. markmcgregor. com/report. htm) sponsored by Corporate Modelling (http://www. corporatemodelling. com/), The Life Annuity Group and The Lab, provides a detailed insight into this key aspect of Business Process Management (BPM). Process Analysis and Design commands much attention on web sites, in the press and among industry commentators, but to date there has been little real understanding into what tools people are using and why they use them.

The report is based on a detailed survey carried out during December 2009 and contrasts the views of end-users, consultants and vendors. Author of the report, Mark McGregor, says of the report, "I have been involved in the process improvement industry for many years and have always been amazed at the difference of opinions between vendors and users. So I decided it was time to try and produce something which could objectify the situation, rather than simply rely on anecdotes."

The comprehensive report among other things looks at what methods and tools people are actually using, what features they use or value and why there has not been a greater take up. The report also provides interesting insight into the take up (or lake of take up) of the BPMN modelling notation.

An early reviewer of the report Dave Curry, Director, Process Management, Vertex Inc. commented, "The report provides an excellent analysis of survey results relative to the use of process modelling tools. The comparison of perceptions by end users, consultants, and vendors along with the commentary analyzing the results provides real added value."

One of the key findings is that large numbers of organisations are using a whole multitude of process improvement methods, but that those who are using approaches such as Six Sigma or Lean are far less likely to be using professional modelling tools in a co-ordinated fashion. The report also highlights, once again, the divide between the views of technologists versus those of non-technologists.

Graham Twaddle, CEO of Corporate Modelling said, "While some of the results from the survey may come as a surprise, others fit with what we are seeing and hearing from our clients. People seem to want better analysis features, with lower costs and less complexity. These are the very essence of our own approach to delivering our product Enterprise Improvement 2."

Corporate Modelling recently released their new 'Process Modelling in the Cloud' variant of their flagship 'Enterprise Improvement 2' analysis and design suite.

The report is available for a limited time free of charge. Anyone who would like a copy can access it via www. markmcgregor. com/report. htm (http://www. markmcgregor. com/report. htm)

Dr. Marc Moramarco Discusses Scoliosis on Fox 25 Boston

Dr. Marc Moramarco Discusses Scoliosis on Fox 25 Boston

Dr. Marc Moramarco recently appeared on Fox 25 Boston to continue his efforts to raise awareness about scoliosis detection and treatment via the Schroth Method, a scoliosis treatment from Germany offering parents and adolescents an option to the traditional ‘watch and wait’. The Schroth Method is a scoliosis specific exercise and breathing technique for adolescents and adults focused on surgery prevention.

Woburn, MA (Vocus) September 9, 2010

Dr. Marc Moramarco of Scoliosis 3DC, Woburn, Massachusetts appeared on Fox 25 News Boston in an effort to increase awareness about the early detection and diagnosis of scoliosis. Scoliosis is a three-dimensional spinal condition where the spine deviates laterally to the side, the vertebrae rotate or twist, and forward/backward spinal malalignment may occur.

Dr. Moramarco emphasizes, “Information is essential when it comes to detection. The challenge of recognizing scoliosis early is that, frequently, scoliosis can be silent, with subtle signs rather than symptoms, because often the condition does not cause pain.” Signs parents should be aware of are: unlevel shoulders or hips, a shoulder or hip prominence, scapula winging, head tilt, and rib prominence. Rib prominence is evident in the Adam’s Forward Bend Test (http://scoliosis3dc. com/scoliosis-information/is-it-scoliosis/).

“Early diagnosis is necessary so steps can be taken to try and halt progression of the spinal curvature,” according to Dr. Moramarco.

Instruction at Scoliosis 3DC focuses on helping patients gain control of the postural condition via the Schroth Method - a three-dimensional exercise (http://scoliosis3dc. com/) and breathing approach used in Germany since the 1920‘s. It also incorporates Scoliologic™ techniques, developed by Dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiss, grandson of Schroth Method creator, Katharina Schroth. All techniques are based on structural principles aimed at preventing curve progression. Schroth Method goals are to halt or reduce curve progression, increase lung capacity and chest expansion, improve posture and cosmetic appearance, spinal stabilization, reduce pain - if present - and to instruct patients to maintain corrections during daily activities.

The Schroth Method is sometimes used in conjunction with bracing and can give patients significantly improved odds of preventing surgery, or re-vision surgery. Nearly all patients practicing Schroth report that the scoliosis specific exercises result in an improved quality of life.

Dr. Moramarco’s Fox Boston appearance coincides with his upcoming participation in Healthy Living Magazine’s Health Expo in North Andover, Massachusetts on Sunday, September 12, where he will speak about conservative treatment for scoliosis, answer questions, and offer screenings.

Dr. Moramarco, a chiropractor, immersed himself in the study of alternative treatments for scoliosis nearly ten years ago when his twelve year-old daughter was diagnosed with the condition.

Patients and parents say his experience as a parent of a child with scoliosis gives him an empathy and perspective they appreciate. He established Scoliosis 3DC in 2007 after becoming the first US practitioner to receive his Schroth certification at the renowned Askelpios Katharina Schroth Clinic, in Bad Sobernheim, Germany.

As congress quibbles over the details of the healthcare reform bill, corporations and individual households are wondering what the changes will mean for them. In the mean time, several insurance carriers are raising rates in anticipation of these changes.

Anthem Blue Cross will raise its premiums some 39% in California and is expected to increase its rates in Maine by as much as 23%. According to Sandy Praeger, chair of the Health Insurance and Managed Care committee for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, such severe rate increases have become more common in recent years. Praeger predicts that policyholders will see rate increases between 20% and 30% in the coming months.

Although corporations purchasing healthcare coverage for their staff fair somewhat better than the average consumer, they too are experiencing significant rate increases. All of this leaves many wondering where to turn. Shopping around for insurance may save an individual or a corporation in the long run, but in the short-term, it costs both time and money.

RJ Ahmann Company, recognized as the Minnesota Business Insurance Agency of the Year, offers an alternative. As a corporation, which has been in business since 1956, they have relationships with more than 40 insurance providers. This means they are in a position to guide clients toward the best, most comprehensive and affordable insurance policies available. In addition, RJ Ahmann can also provide businesses with employee benefits, 401K services, and Surety Bonds.

Scientific Peer Review of Research Applications for the Department of Defense

Scientific Peer Review of Research Applications for the Department of Defense

Kidney Cancer advocate Sarah Wise Miller, recently participated in the evaluation of research proposals submitted to the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) sponsored by the Department of Defense.

Chicago (PRWEB) August 6, 2009

Kidney Cancer advocate Sarah Wise Miller, recently participated in the evaluation of research proposals submitted to the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) sponsored by the Department of Defense. Ms. Miller was nominated for participation in the peer review process by The Kidney Cancer Association, Evanston, Illinois. As a consumer reviewer, she was a full voting member of the scientific peer review panel, along with prominent scientists and clinicians. The Fiscal Year 2009 (FY09) PRMRP received a $50 million congressional appropriation to fund research across 19 topic areas including Kidney Cancer.

Consumer reviewers are asked to represent the collective view of their community including survivors and patients, family members, and persons at risk for the disease. Specifically, they are asked to score and comment on the potential impact of the proposed study on issues such as disease prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life after treatment. Sarah Wise Miller was one of 65 consumer advocates who participated in the scientific peer review of applications submitted to the FY09 PRMRP and participated in the review of each research application on the panel. Commenting on her role as a consumer reviewer, Ms. Miller said that "the experience was one of the most exhilarating and rewarding I have ever engaged in. It was exhausting, yet I learned a tremendous amount and felt that I was really able to contribute a lot to the process. There is so much to be done in the fight against kidney cancer and I am glad to have had the opportunity to participate in a meaningful way."

Consumer advocates and scientists have worked together in this unique partnership to evaluate the scientific merit of research proposals submitted to the various programs managed through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) since 1995. Captain E. Melissa Kaime, M. D., Director of the CDMRP, expressed her appreciation for the consumer advocates' perspective in the scientific peer review sessions. "The Consumer Reviewers on each panel helped the scientists understand the patient's perspective and provided valuable insight into the potential impact of the proposed project. Likewise, these important members of the peer review panels have been enriched by learning more about the scientific process through discussing proposals with the other peer review panel members and seeing the future possibilities of successful research outcomes."

The FY09 PRMRP challenged the scientific and clinical communities to address one of the FY09 congressionally-directed topic areas with original ideas that foster new directions in basic science and translational research; novel product development leading to improved therapeutic or diagnostic tools, or improvements in clinical policies/guidelines; or clinical trials that address an immediate clinical need. This program sought applications in laboratory, clinical, behavioral, and epidemiologic research as well as public health and policy; environmental sciences; nursing; occupational health; alternative therapies; ethics; economics; and strategic research, such as studies designed to shape the development of or to validate clinical policy or guidance.

More information about the Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program is available at the Website: http://cdmrp. army. mil (http://cdmrp. army. mil).

New Video from Harvard Medical School: Dos and Don'ts of Checking Blood Pressure at Home, from the Harvard Heart Letter

New Video from Harvard Medical School: Dos and Don'ts of Checking Blood Pressure at Home, from the Harvard Heart Letter

Blood pressure readings jump around so much that you are more likely to get an accurate reading if you check it at home rather than in the doctor's office, reports the September 2008 issue of the Harvard Heart Letter.

Boston (Vocus) September 9, 2008

Your blood pressure changes from hour to hour, sometimes minute to minute. Standing up from a chair, watching an exciting show, eating a meal, or being stressed -- perhaps because of a visit to the doctor -- all influence your blood pressure. Blood pressure readings jump around so much that you are more likely to get an accurate reading if you check it at home rather than in the doctor's office, reports the September 2008 issue of the Harvard Heart Letter.

The idea underlies a new recommendation from the American Heart Association urging individuals with high blood pressure (http://www. health. harvard. edu/heart) or at high risk for developing it to become do-it-yourselfers, for a number of reasons:

Find your real blood pressure: In some individuals, the doctor's office snapshot tells the whole story and is an excellent approximation of their usual pressure. In others, it isn't.

Track your progress: Checking your blood pressure at home lets you know whether your lifestyle changes and medications are having their desired effects.

Save time and medications: Home measurement may mean fewer trips to the doctor's office. If you have "white-coat" hypertension (http://www. health. harvard. edu/heart) -- a rise in blood pressure when you go to the doctor -- it may also mean taking fewer medications.

If you choose to measure your blood pressure at home, technique matters. A free instructional video from Harvard Health Publications, online at http://www. health. harvard. edu/newsletters/Heart-webextra-0908.htm (http://www. health. harvard. edu/newsletters/Heart-webextra-0908.htm)], shows Harvard Heart Letter editor Patrick J. Skerrett demonstrating the right way to take a blood pressure reading at home. This web page also offers tips for choosing a home blood pressure monitor.

The Upcoming School Year May Bring More Than Books

The Upcoming School Year May Bring More Than Books

August is upon us and a new year of school is about to start. Young people are bouncing, bubbly, and chattering with excitement. School brings old friends, new friends, old routines, new adventures and learning experiences. Most of those learning experiences are good ones, but it’s what a child learns that parents don’t know about that can be life-threatening.

Canadian, OK (PRWEB) August 20, 2006

August is upon us and a new year of school is about to start. Young people are bouncing, bubbly, and chattering with excitement. School brings old friends, new friends, old routines, new adventures and learning experiences. Most of those learning experiences are good ones, but it’s what a child learns that parents don’t know about that can be life-threatening.

As the new school year starts a student will be reviewing information previously studied while learning new terms, and some of the terms that you may hear (from children of all ages) during this school year are: addiction, AIDS, dependence, drugs, trafficking, narcotics, prevention, treatment and tolerance, to list only a few. Although you may be surprised, students of any age need to know these terms and have a full understanding of exactly what they mean and the effects of what they refer to.

Another subject that will certainly make an appearance in schools this year is prescription and/or over-the-counter drugs. Children often confuse the fact that these substances are legal with the assumption that it is safe to abuse them. According to the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration, a relatively high rate of prescription painkiller abuse is occurring among eighth, tenth, and twelfth graders. Pharmaceutical drugs are available throughout most of the country and their abuse is at incredibly high levels. Much of this easy availability is due to the ever-increasing number of rogue Internet pharmacies and neighborhood “pill mills.” At either location, a person can obtain prescription drugs with little or no resistance.

Simple, honest communication of the facts to children who will most certainly encounter drugs as some point in their lives is the most effective prevention measure a parent can take. These measures must start at an early age and must start at home. Parents who rely solely on drug education in schools are doing their children a disservice. A parent who imparts understandable information regarding the dangers of drugs and alcohol to their children at an early age will reap the rewards later in life when their children choose to abstain from use because they are fully informed. Scare tactics can do more harm than good and can cause a child to become curious rather than aware.

Mind-altering, painkilling and amphetamine-based prescription drugs, as well as illicit street drugs, are swallowing up a society that was once considered safe. According to data obtained from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health in a 2004 study, 6.1% of individuals aged 12 and older had engaged in the non-medical use of psychotherapeutics, a figure second only to the use of marijuana (10.6%) and much higher than the use of cocaine (2.4%), methamphetamine (0.6%), or heroin (0.2%). Bariatric Surgery is Still Surgery: Proceed With Caution

Bariatric Surgery is Still Surgery: Proceed With Caution

Medical Society Advises that Weight Loss is More Successful Under the Guidance of a Physician

Denver, CO (PRWEB) February 17, 2010

The American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) believes bariatric surgery is the right choice for some adult patients but only after a plan for thorough pre - and post-operative care is established with a board certified bariatric physician. The ASBP agrees with the American Academy of Pediatrics that bariatric surgery for adolescent patients should be considered with caution and only for select patients as a tertiary care intervention.

Currently, evidence suggests that weight and other health markers improve during the first six months after surgery but then plateau in adolescents. Patients under 18 are still growing and developing and the implications of surgery, including possible mortality, life-long vitamin deficiencies, and physical, mental and emotional effects, are still largely unknown.

Society continues to struggle with the obesity epidemic, but there is perhaps just as much discussion and argument about the solution as there is about the problem itself. Physicians affiliated with ASBP are specifically dedicated and uniquely prepared to address weight and obesity related co-morbidities, something a typical weight loss center without the guidance of a physician is not equipped to do.

"As an organization, we struggle with how to address the surgery option. For some patients, it's exactly what they need. But we agree that surgery or no surgery, weight loss is more successful and more effective when it is under the supervision of a specialized bariatric medical professional," said Laurie Traetow, executive director of the ASBP.

Before a patient ever considers surgery, the ASBP advocates that the patient first seek the help of a bariatric physician, who will implement a medical program that includes a complete patient work-up, ensuring that metabolic and overall health aren't compromised. A bariatric physician will provide appropriate counseling on:
Diet and nutrition Exercise programs, tailored to the capabilities and limitations of the patient Behavioral modifications, including proper eating habits, dealing with stress-related eating and dealing with the whole family Prescription medications if indicated.

Bariatric surgery will continue to be an option for obese patients, but it shouldn't be viewed as the only option. Patients who have had bariatric surgery require long-term lifestyle changes and nutritional monitoring to ensure a safe and lasting weight loss. If surgery is selected, the adherence to a carefully implemented and monitored program before and after surgery will impact the overall success of the procedure and should be under the guidance of a bariatric physician.

About the ASBP
Founded in 1950, the ASBP is the oldest medical association focused on the education and training of medical professionals treating and managing obese patients and associated diseases. The ASBP is a collaborative organization that provides its members practical information and business tools to implement a successful medical bariatric practice. Healthcare Report Cards: Making the Grade When Publicly Reporting Healthcare Quality Data

Healthcare Report Cards: Making the Grade When Publicly Reporting Healthcare Quality Data

Since the mid-1980s, health policy experts have advised corporate healthcare purchasers to consider both cost and quality-of-care data when purchasing healthcare. Today, savvy consumers expect payors and providers to furnish reliable quality and comparative performance data on their web sites to support them in their healthcare decisions. But corporate pushback, technology requirements and the challenge of obtaining reliable data can prove daunting to many organizations. To guide healthcare organizations through the complex process of publishing healthcare data, the Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN) is sponsoring “Healthcare Report Cards: How To Get an A+ in the Public Reporting of Healthcare Quality Data,” a 90-minute live audio conference on June 7, 2006. For more information, please visit http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? reportcardacpr

Manasquan, NJ, USA (PRWEB) May 16, 2006

For more information, please visit http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? reportcardacpr (http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? reportcardacpr).

While the public reporting of healthcare quality data is currently voluntary, more and more organizations are making this data available and some industry experts believe it is just a matter of time before it is mandatory. To help payors and providers navigate the challenges of this process, Paul L. Green, principal with Greenlight Healthcare Consulting and Christine Profit-Orok, project leader of cost and quality at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, will discuss the purpose of publicly posting performance data and the steps necessary to launch public report cards.

The value of healthcare report cards has been a recurring theme during HIN-sponsored audio conferences on pay for performance, consumer-driven healthcare and quality improvement, says Melanie Matthews, executive vice president and chief executive officer of the healthcare publishing organization. But the results of HIN’s February 2006 online survey persuaded Matthews to further investigate this trend. “One-third of the healthcare organizations responding to our survey on quality report card use said they currently post this data on their web sites, and another 25 percent plan to do so later this year,” said Matthews. “At the same time, many respondents said they’re concerned about the validity and reliability of the posted data and see a need for unified measurement criteria,” she added. HIN’s February 2006 survey respondents also said that posting quality data boosts their patient and member enrollment, increases staff awareness of performance issues and helps hospitals and health plans set organizational benchmarks.

During this 90-minute audio conference, Green and Profit-Orok will also provide details on:

Evaluating the types of healthcare quality data to post; Analyzing the impact that posting healthcare report cards can have on an organization; Overcoming the roadblocks to report card implementation; Getting consumers to use the information; and Lessons learned from making report cards publicly available.

The June 7, 2006 audio conference will clarify the healthcare report card development process for CEOs, presidents, strategic planning directors, quality improvement executives, CIOs, information technology and systems executives, medical directors and product development and marketing executives. The 90-minute audio conference format builds in 30 minutes dedicated to responding to participants’ questions.

For those who miss the live conference, an on-demand rebroadcast can be accessed beginning June 9, 2006, and a CD-ROM recording with printed transcript will be available in late June. Hurricane Ivan Victims - Stay Away From Investing Or Moving To Mexico, too. It Is Not Exactly Paradise, either

Hurricane Ivan Victims - Stay Away From Investing Or Moving To Mexico, too. It Is Not Exactly Paradise, either.

An investorÂ’s dream turns into a nightmare. For the last ten years Boris Gerson has tried to regain control of his market in Mexico City. But corrupt lawmen have taken over and are charging his rent money; he alleges that the Fox administration has done nothing to help him.

Tlanepantla, Mexico (PRWEB) September 23, 2004

ItÂ’s no manÂ’s land.

Here, in this eclectic flea market, amidst boom box vendors and merchants who offer the latest name brand jeans from makeshift booths, mobsters rule. The law does not live here, critics say, only the word of former lawmen turned union leaders who decide what gives - and what doesnÂ’t.

In fact, corruption is such says a group of vendors, that for the last ten years the owners of the Bazar Perinorte - a big flea market set up swat-meet style - have not been able to step inside their own property, let alone make the law or menial regulations prevail. They have won two court cases that show without a doubt that the Bazar is theirs, but have had to back down by threats by strong-arm thugs and organized gangs who have threatened to kill them if they dare to walk into the place.

“It’s amazing what goes down in there,” said Boris Gerson, spokesman forValle de los Pinos (IVP), the owners of the Bazaar. “In his last state of the Union address President Vicente Fox tried to paint this image that corruption is a thing of the past. But corruption is what rules here.”

Gerson’s family owns IVP. Boris’ cousin lives in Los Angeles and says that he is worried about the safety of his family in Mexico City. “It’s a 10 year old nightmare, of which would never happen in America, yet it is so close, yet so distant from anything of reality. Anyone investing in Mexico, even when it’s on official court documents will discover if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

HeÂ’s not the only one that fears for his life. Or the life of others, says Virginia Puente, a Perinorte vendor who alleges that thugs kidnapped one of her sons and have stolen property from her, including two of her cars.

“They have threatened to kill me and my family. I fear for my life,” Puente said. “My family and I don’t know when they will strike.”

Puente says that lax safety rules have endangered not only the market, but surrounding residents as well. Faulty power lines, unchecked natural gas cylinders and all kinds of safety code violations have turned the once colorful flea market into a danger zone.

“It’s a time bomb,” Puente said. “And it will explode in any minute.”

Just some months ago, two explosions rocked the Bazar during a night fire. No one was hurt and the local authorities were not able to find the causes of the accident and did not rule out foul play.

No one knows what happened but what everyone agrees upon is this:IVP and a group of about 700 vendors led by a former local District Attorney have been locked in a battle for the control of Bazar Perinorte.

IVP alleges that they have not been able to collect rent money from the vendors for the last ten years, despite the fact that they are the legal owners of the Bazar. The vendors say that what IVP wants to do is to evict them and to raise tariffs.

Boris Gerson said that their fight is not against the vendors, but against the leaders of a group called Locatarios Asosiados de Bazar Perinorte, a group that allegedly represents the owners and is led by well connected ex law enforcement officials. Gerson said that the former lawmen are corrupt and have led some of the vendors to believe that the Bazar is theirs, hence they do not need to pay rent.

Athough IVP and a group of vendors are trying to make a new popular market with the same features of a "La Pulga" market but complying with all regulations that will make it a safe place, locatarios Asociados and their allies within the executive and judicial powers in the State of Mexico, want to maintain the current situation as it is ideal for black market business Boris believes.

“It is a black market that not only infringes on the laws of private property, but represents a threat for the security and social health of the community that surrrounds this market,” he said. “And it is within the government itself that the resources to keep the status quo

Of such a place are created.”

Gerson alleges that Axel Garcíá , a former District Attorney for Tlanepantla, is the leader of the vendors. Barragán allegedly charges them rent money and coaxed the vendors into believing that they don’t have to pay rent.

Garcia, Gerson alleges, is a close friend of the state governor Arturo Montiel and has high connections with judges and politicians. He allegedly also employs corrupt state Judiciales (police officers) to provide security for the Bazar and strong-arm those vendors who do not agree with his tactics.

“We are the legal owners of the Bazar and we have not been able to charge rent for ten years,” Gerson said. “We are not even allowed to step inside our own property.”

Barragán and the Locatarios refused request for interviews. Local authorities also declined to comment on the Bazar matter.

Puente said that many merchants have aligned themselves with Barragán and his group because they feel that a lawless Bazar permits them to sell black market items, drugs and all sorts of illicit contraband.

“Many local merchants want to keep the status quo, which only favors chaos and black market businesses, include mainly piracy of brand names, prostitution and drug dealing,” Gerson said. “Law enforcement agencies do not want to enforce the law.”

Inmobiliaria has owned this land for more than decade.

“IVP has owned this land since 1966 and rented it to the two private investors 11 years ago. It all began in the early 1990s, whenIVP acquired the piece of land where the Bazar now sits, said Gerson. They bought the land from two private investors, Salvador Espinoza Vargas and Rodolfo Robles Sanchez with a goal: to create a Bazar.

Bazars, as these open-air flea markets are called in Mexico, date back to pre-columbine times, said Gerson, who is an anthropologist. “The market was the first social place created by the community,” noted Gerson. “Religious practices started in the market before creating temples. Therefore it was a place for human sacrifices for religious purposes, that as such contains a social tendency to violence.”

The markets are made up of small stores, booths and live entertainment, which are very popular with Mexicans of all ages and economic classes.

“The market reminds residents of the traditional Mexican market and in getting good quality products at lower prices,” he said. .

For the first three years, everything was smooth sailing. Then it went sour.

According to hundreds of court documents, depositions and police reports, Vargas and Sanchez stopped making payments. Inmobiliaria took them to court to collect back rent pay and to evict them and to try to recover their property.

Three years ago, one of the investors pretended to give back the land after a court settlement. Instead, they formed the Locatarios group with the help of Barragán; they are now charging the vendors rent money.

“It’s a clear case of fraud,” explained Gerson.

Joining the Locatarios group is Axel Garcia, Governor MontielÂ’s pistol-waving strongman, Gerson said. Together, they make sure that the local state police do not interfere.

“This is corruption at the highest level,” Gerson said. “We feel that what is needed is federal intervention.”

It and unholy alliance, Gerson said. Apparently the state governor (as we have no proofs) lends Axel García to Locatarios Asociados, while Axel García lends his teamsters - style like mobs to create political unrest for the Governor’s foes.

Gerson spent seven years in court battles. Again and again, judges ruled in favor of Inmobiliaria as the true owner of the Bazar and issued eviction orders for Barragán and his Locatarios group, whom by this time had gained control of the market - to no avail.

According to Gerson, the State Police does not take action on the Bazar issue because it takes bribes from Barragán. His alleged henchman are state policemen who work in a police station nearby.

“The courts have issued orders of eviction, which have not been enforced by the government because it would be against their own interest to evict themselves from our property,” explained Gerson.

“After reading and hearing President Vicente Fox’s state of the union address and commitment to Mexico, I hope he walks his talk,” said Gerson.. “We are fighting to regain our property and close down a popular bazaar market called “Bazar Perinorte” (www. bazarperinorte. com. mx) in Mexico City. “Bazar Perinorte is in shambles and the current bazar and its infrastructure (water, power and structural safety) do not comply with any of the regulations and codes.”

Even his brother and partner, who did not want to be identified, but who lives in Los Angeles believed the deplorable conditions should and can come to an end if Fox truly believed in NAFTA. He receives great headlines about Mexico’s agreements with 32 different countries, including China and Japan, but how can he boast about how government and business is turning the corner when he allows these conditions to prevail? The best solution is to create a cooperative market where 400 vendors co-own one lot of land in a condominium structure. We have the resources and we hope his spirit of patriotism and conscious will come through for us.”

Washington, D. C. (PRWEB) August 7, 2007

The National Council on Aging's (NCOA) BenefitsCheckUp. org was recently named the best retirement finance site on the Web by a group of USA Today staffers.

Named one of the top five "gems of personal-finance cyberspace," BenefitsCheckUp. org is a free and confidential service that enables older Americans and their caregivers to determine their eligibility for benefits programs. Since its inception in 2001, BenefitsCheckUp has served over two million seniors and found five billion dollars worth of benefits for those who qualify.

The USA Today staffers chose BenefitsCheckUp. org because:
It provides information on more than 1,450 public and private benefits programs for seniors in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The site helps seniors or their caregivers enroll directly in the programs they are eligible for via printable and online application forms.

The newspaper also recognized four other personal finance websites, covering topics such as mutual funds and paying for college. L'Oréal Paris and EHE International Join in the Fight Against Ovarian Cancer

L'Oréal Paris and EHE International Join in the Fight Against Ovarian Cancer

Rockefeller Center window display unveiled today highlighting the disease.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 9, 2008

This September, EHE International and L'Oréal Paris are partnering to raise awareness for ovarian cancer. L'Oréal spokeswomen Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria Parker, have joined L'Oréal Paris in the fight against ovarian cancer and will be featured in a public service display on the Plaza in Rockefeller Center in New York City.

The window will be on display beginning in September. September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and in recognition the window seeks to educate passersby about the disease and its effects on the nearly 22,000 women that will be diagnosed each year. The window at 10 Rockefeller Plaza will feature a compelling reminder of the signs and symptoms of the disease.

Currently, the five-year survival rate for women diagnosed is less than 50 percent, and there is no effective screening method for ovarian cancer. If any of the following symptoms are unexplained and persist for up to two weeks at a time, speak to your gynecologist to conduct further evaluation to rule out ovarian cancer:
Unexplained pelvic or abdominal pain  Bloating  Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly  Urinary symptoms (urgency or frequency) "L'Oréal Paris believes that knowing the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer is a woman's best defense," stated Michael Trese, Vice President of External Affairs and Strategic Philanthropy, L'Oréal Paris. "As Rockefeller Plaza is the crossroad for so many visitors to New York City, it is our hope that many will be touched by the campaign's message and share the message with their friends and loved ones."

"We hope to educate people about the disease, and encourage women everywhere to know the symptoms," said Deborah McKeever, President of EHE International.

L'Oréal Paris is dedicated to the cause and has helped to raise in excess of $14 million for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) over the last decade to advance life-saving research and ovarian cancer awareness. Insurance Companies' Profiting From Tough Economy at the Expense of Las Vegas Accident Victims Prompts Craig Murphy, Esq. to Write Book

Insurance Companies' Profiting From Tough Economy at the Expense of Las Vegas Accident Victims Prompts Craig Murphy, Esq. to Write Book

Insurance companies in Las Vegas have been using strong arm tactics and economic hardship to extract pennies on the dollar settlements from Las Vegas automobile accident and injury victims. Las Vegas attorney Craig Murphy, Esq. wrote "The Ultimate Consumer's Guide to Nevada Car Crash Cases" to help Las Vegas accident and injury victims in dealing with insurance companies and understanding the claims process. According to Craig Murphy, Esq. his Nevada Car Crash Book is a self-help book that places Las Vegas accident and injury victims on an equal footing with the insurance adjusters. Craig Murphy, Esq. gives "The Ultimate Consumer's Guide to Nevada Car Crash Cases" to Las Vegas accident and injury victims at no charge upon request to his office, Murphy & Murphy Law Offices. Craig Murphy, Esq.'s book can be requested through his web site www. nvpilaw. com or through the web site www. nevadacarcrashbook. com.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) July 14, 2010

Insurance companies are using hard economic times and strong arm tactics to extract pennies on the dollar settlements from already strapped Las Vegas automobile accident and injury victims. Craig Murphy, Esq. Las Vegas automobile accident attorney and injury trial lawyer says that "insurance adjusters know that people in Las Vegas are hurting economically these days." The economic statistics back up Craig Murphy, Esq.'s statement. At the current time, Nevada has the highest unemployment rate in the country. Las Vegas, Nevada's largest city, leads the list. In addition, Las Vegas tops all lists for the number of home foreclosures in the country. No segment of the Las Vegas population has avoided the pitfalls and hard times of this economy.

According to Craig Murphy, Esq., insurance companies know that many people in Las Vegas are hurting economically. When someone is injured in a Las Vegas auto accident, their life is often thrown in to turmoil. Their car is damaged. Their car often does not work or cannot be driven. The car has to be inspected, evaluated and an insurance adjuster has to determine the value of the repairs. The accident victim is often without a car for days.

In addition to the damage to the car, the accident victim has to obtain medical treatment. The medical treatment causes a number of problems. If the injury victim does not have health insurance, they have to pay for their medical treatment or find a doctor who will bill them for later payment. Even if they have insurance, they must pay co-pays and other treatment related expenses. If the injuries are serious enough, the Las Vegas accident victim will be unable to work. For most people in Las Vegas that means no income for the days of missed work. According to Craig Murphy, Esq. that is often a "double whammy." The accident victim's injuries prevent him from being able to work and his medical bills and other regular bills keep piling up. With no income coming in to the household, and an ever increasing mountain of bills and expenses, many Las Vegas accident and injury victims are over an economic barrel. Especially if their income has already been reduced, they are behind on their bills or their house is in foreclosure. For people who are already feeling the harsh effects of the economy, being injured in an accident can be the straw that breaks the camel's back and sends them over the edge of economic oblivion.

Increasingly over the past couple of years Craig Murphy, Esq. has been receiving calls from Las Vegas automobile accident victims who have not been able to settle their claims. According to Craig Murphy, Esq. even in cases of clear liability and clear injuries and damages, the insurance companies refuse to pay the medical bills for the treatment required from the automobile accident. Since the insurance companies will not even offer to pay the medical bills, other items such as out of pocket expenses and lost income are out of the question. The insurance companies know that those who are really hurting for money will often have no choice but to accept anything the insurance company will offer to help pay their ever increasing monthly bills. Faced with increasing numbers of calls from Las Vegas injury victims in claims where his involvement would only reduce the amount of money the injury victim could expect to receive, Craig Murphy, Esq. wrote "The Ultimate Consumer's Guide to Nevada Car Crash Cases."

Craig Murphy, Esq. said that the "Ultimate Consumer's Guide to Nevada Car Crash Cases" was his attempt to inform the public of their rights when they have been involved in a Nevada automobile accident. He calls the book "The Nevada Car Crash Book." He says that the book explains the claims process in detail. It takes a step-by-step approach to the claims procedure and explains each step. According to Craig Murphy, Esq. "The Ultimate Consumer's Guide to Nevada Car Crash Cases" is a self help guide that equals the playing field between an automobile accident injury victim and an experienced insurance adjuster.

In addition to the step by step explanation of the claims procedure, the book provides useful forms and explains the litigation process. Craig Murphy, Esq. says that some of the most important features of the book are the portions that explain common situations where many Las Vegas automobile accident victims do not need an attorney to represent them.

When a person does need to hire a Las Vegas lawyer, the book explains how a person should go about hiring the right lawyer for their case. Craig Murphy, Esq. says that hiring a lawyer "is one of the most important decisions a person will make affecting their case." A person should take the appropriate amount of time investigating and researching lawyers as is necessary. A person should also interview a number of lawyers before deciding which attorney to hire. The decision is too important to just sign up with the first lawyer a person talks to. It should really be an interviewing process according to Murphy. "A lawsuit requires a team effort between the client and the lawyer" says Craig Murphy, Esq. The client will have the attorney for many years in some cases. Craig Murphy, Esq. says "the client must make sure that he or she can work with the attorney and that he or she is comfortable with the attorney now and into the future." When asked why choosing a lawyer for a Las Vegas automobile accident is so important, Craig Murphy, Esq. said it is because "the insurance companies evaluate the attorney on the claim. If the Las Vegas attorney is not a trial lawyer and does not go to court, the insurance companies have little to fear." Craig Murphy, Esq. said that "hiring a lawyer who does not take cases to trial is like relying on a lifeguard who does not know how to swim."

When asked why he is giving "The Ultimate Consumer's Guide to Nevada Car Crash Cases" away to Las Vegas automobile injury victims for free, Craig Murphy, Esq. said that he "does it as a public service. This type of information is controlled by attorneys and usually not available to the public. If it is, there is often a high price tag on the information. I wanted to give it to the people who need it the most. In addition, if they do need a lawyer, I hope that they remember me."

In addition to providing free copies of "The Ultimate Consumer's Guide to Nevada Car Crash Cases" to Las Vegas auto accident victims, attorney Craig Murphy, Esq. and the other attorneys at Murphy & Murphy Law Offices in Las Vegas, Nevada will answer any questions Las Vegas injury victims have. People interested in getting a copy of "The Ultimate Consumer's Guide to Nevada Car Crash Cases" can order their copy from the Murphy & Murphy Law Offices web site at www. nvpilaw. com, www. nevadacarcrashbook. com, or can call Murphy & Murphy Law Offices at 702.369.9696.

Senior-Level Registered Nurses Keep Hospital Doors Open with New Careers

Senior-Level Registered Nurses Keep Hospital Doors Open with New Careers

Record number of senior-level RNs are returning to healthcare jobs working as “RN-Coders” and “RN-Auditors” resulting in immediate reimbursements for hospitals and less out-of-pocket expenses for patients.

Diamond Bar, CA (PRWEB) September 8, 2004

One of the most difficult aspects of healthcare is keeping hospitals, clinics and emergency rooms afloat amidst increasing medical costs and patient needs. In Los Angeles County alone, 9 emergency rooms have closed in the last 14 months. Los Angeles County Public Health Department closed 13 public health clinics prior to these ER closures. When Healthcare facilities move out of the community, everyone suffers. However, new career opportunities for Registered Nurses are changing this trend, putting hospitals back into the black. Record number of senior-level RNs are returning to healthcare jobs working as “RN-Coders” and “RN-Auditors” resulting in immediate reimbursements for hospitals and less out-of-pocket expenses for patients.

“Coding” is the translation of medical terms, procedures and diagnoses into procedural and diagnostic codes. These codes, developed by the American Medical Association (Current Procedural Terminology) and the International Classification of Disease-9th edition, updated by the Department of Health and Human Services, are required by HIPAA. Only through these essential codes can hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers obtain payment for services rendered.

“Since Medicare altered the way it pays for all outpatient services in August 2000, it has become clear that many hospitals have not implemented coding compliance programs, resulting in poor reimbursements, fraud cases, and hospital closures,” states Joyce Thomas, Executive Director of the American Association of Clinical Coders & Auditors. Previously, all coding was undertaken by the clinically untrained clerical staff. “AACCA certifies RNs and other clinical personnel in coding and chart audit activities,” Thomas continues, “giving hospitals and medical groups competent personnel” which results in “a 30% - 40% increase in reimbursements to hospitals in a short time, ” concludes Hilary Falconer, a senior nurse manager responsible for chart audits and a member of the AACCA Board of Directors.

It is a proven fact that “when hospitals and physicians work with RN-Coders to produce quality documentation and coding, correct and expedient reimbursement will result,” Thomas emphasized. “These new opportunities for senior-level RNs re-entering hospitals will ensure hospitals get paid correctly the first time around.”

About American Association of Clinical Coders & Auditors, (AACCA)

American Association of Clinical Coders & Auditors is a non-profit, 501(c)3 educational organization. AACCA is currently the only organization to certify clinical personnel in coding and auditing. AACCA also launched the nationÂ’s first computer-based examination for coding certification last year and has certified over 150 RNs, MDs, Physical Therapists, and other clinical personnel in coding.

Proscape Technologies finds a new way to turn Pharma Sales Reps into Educators

Proscape Technologies finds a new way to turn Pharma Sales Reps into Educators

To help major pharmaceutical firms adhere to the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) code of Interaction with Healthcare Professionals and also help turn the traditional pharmaceutical sales rep from a “seller” to an “educator,” Proscape Technologies, a leading provider of face-to-face selling and marketing effectiveness software for the pharmaceutical industry announced the release of Version 5 of its Marketing and Sales Effectiveness Platform.

Ft. Washington, PA (PRWEB) August 25, 2003 -

— To help major pharmaceutical firms adhere to the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) code of Interaction with Healthcare Professionals and also help turn the traditional pharmaceutical sales rep from a “seller” to an “educator,” Proscape Technologies, a leading provider of face-to-face selling and marketing effectiveness software for the pharmaceutical industry announced the release of Version 5 of its Marketing and Sales Effectiveness Platform.

“Physicians are demanding that Pharmaceutical companies provide information that is both timely and relevant to their specific practice. It’s no longer good enough for the professional representative to communicate one core message to all prescribers. Research shows that the number one way physicians receive information on prescription drugs is through the physician detail.

The average physician detail meeting lasts 96 seconds and costs $175,” says Derek Pollock, Co-Founder of Proscape Technologies. “Now, representatives will be able to offer a more targeted, clinically current presentation to time-sensitive physicians.”

Version 5 builds on the Proscape Pharmaceutical Solution ability to the major pharmaceutical companies with the ability to:

• inform healthcare professionals about the benefits and risks of their products,

• provide scientific and educational information directly to the physician,

• support the process of medical education, and

• obtain feedback and advice about their products.

"Almost every aspect of pharmaceutical marketing has changed in the last 30 years except the physical detail," said Thomas Schwenger, partner in Accenture's Health & Life Sciences practice. "Industry leaders, however, are recognizing there is an untapped opportunity for differentiation through individualizing education and service to each medical professional."

Proscape V5, built on Microsoft technologies, provides pharmaceutical companies a way to streamline and assimilate the sales, marketing and educational materials onto a single tool carried by pharmaceutical sales representatives. This tool is used directly with physicians at THE most critical point in the interaction with the healthcare professional.

That is, the moment of presentation, when pharmaceutical representatives are imparting the information that is used to help educate a physician about a drug or treatment regiment that will benefit the physicianÂ’s patients and enhance their practice of medicine. Proscape V5 was built using MicrosoftÂ’s. NET architecture, is certified for Windows Server 2003 and provides support for SharePoint Services, Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, Excel 2003 and PowerPoint 2003.

“The Microsoft Office System enables productivity, collaboration and innovation through information when and where it’s needed,” said Ahmad Hashem, M. D. Ph. D., global healthcare productivity manager at Microsoft. “The combination of Proscape Version 5 and Microsoft Office servers and programs empowers pharmaceutical companies with easy-to-use technology that meets physician demands while improving sales effectiveness.”

About Proscape Technologies
