Financial Literacy Month And Credit Card Debt Consolidation - A New Horizon Credit Counseling Weighs In

Financial Literacy Month And Credit Card Debt Consolidation - A New Horizon Credit Counseling Weighs In.

Financial literacy is the ability to understand finance. By definition it is an individual's ability to make informed judgments and effective decisions about the use and management of their money.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (Vocus) April 6, 2010

A New Horizon is a well established Credit Counseling company with over 15 year’s experience as a non-profit organization assisting individuals and families from all walks of life in regaining control of their finances. This is accomplished utilizing Financial Literacy training and a host of programs to counsel and educate individuals on the responsible use of credit along with a structured debt management plan to assist them in paying off their existing debt.

Financial literacy is the ability to understand finance. By definition it is an individual's ability to make informed judgments and effective decisions about the use and management of their money. National Financial Literacy Month is recognized in the United States in April to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. In 2000, The Jumpstart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy began promoting April as Financial Literacy for Youth Month and in 2003 the United States Congress showed its support.

The root problem and cause of many financially challenged and “debt heavy” individuals usually stems from credit card abuse. The ability of many American families to live beyond their means can create an out of control debt situation requiring special assistance from creditors. These programs are available through reputable credit counseling companies and should be evaluated before last resorts like filing bankruptcy. Through education and responsible use of credit – FINANCIAL LITERACY – Unmanageable credit card debt can be avoided.

Many of the country’s financial institutions and non-profit financial educational organizations promote this month by holding promotional events and creating educational materials that center around effectively handling money and dealing with credit card debt.

Most of these financial companies can assist consumers with Financial Literacy in an array of courses on budgeting, using credit cards wisely, and savings strategies for credit cards. Upon course completion of the Financial Literacy Program, the names of participants are submitted to the American Center for Credit Education to be included in a national database accessed by creditors and lenders.

A New Horizon offers valuable information to the consumer each month with our "Financial Education Topic of the Month." Such topics include "Becoming Financially Fit", "How to Prepare for Tax Season" and "Homeownership vs. Renting." Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life

Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life

Science is proving that positive inner talk can not only calm your mind and increase your overall happiness, it can actually transform your life.

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) April 10, 2006

If you are like most individuals, you probably tend to get bogged down in negative thinking. The everyday stresses inherent in our harried lives encourage much of this negativity. And so does the fear that follows us from childhood into our adult lives. There is a way, however, to overcome these detrimental thought patterns that ruin the quality of our lives.

Study after study has shown that the repetition of positive thoughts allows you to "out-talk" the negativity in your mind, thereby giving you genuine transformational power over your actions and reactions to what is happening in your life. As a result, you experience a natural high and are empowered to achieve your dreams as you become healthier and happier.

Susan Jeffers, Ph. D., internationally acclaimed self-help author, jokes that she "self-helps herself" by constantly repeating certain inner thoughts and affirmations that have certainly made a difference in her life. As a result of her success with positive inner-talk, she created THE FEAR-LESS SERIES, now being released for the first time on audio CD. THE FEAR-LESS SERIES includes "Inner Talk for a Confident Day," "Inner Talk for a Love That Works" and "Inner Talk for Peace of Mind." "Any time I feel the world is getting me down, I simply put one of these CDs into my CD player and in a very short time I can feel the stress or upset—or both—disappearing from my mind and my body. It’s a heavenly feeling, indeed!"

Sample just a few of the inner thoughts and affirmations that appear on these CDs. As you read the following, notice how a sense of power, love and peace radiates from the words. Imagine listening to these words, accompanied by inspirational music, as you are dressing in the morning…driving to work…caring for your child…going to sleep at night…

From "Inner Talk for a Confident Day"

Right now I am choosing to create a beautiful day. I commit to focusing on all that is wonderful within and around me. I take special notice of all the blessings in my life—the sky, the trees, good friends, good food, a compliment, a helping hand, or whatever riches are put before me. Yes,

I am creating a beautiful day.

I am creating a beautiful day.

I am creating a beautiful day.

I am getting in touch with the enormous power within me—power to grow, power to change, power to create joy and satisfaction in my life, power to act, power to move forward, power to love and be loved. I constantly remind myself…

I am powerful and I am loving.

I am powerful and I am loved.

I am powerful and I love it!

I nod my head up and down instead of side to side. I let go of my resistance and allow in new possibilities. I relax my body and calmly survey each situation. I delight in the opportunity to taste all that life has to offer...the bitter along with the sweet.

I say “Yes!” to it all.

I say “Yes!” to it all.

I say “Yes!” to it all.

From "Inner Talk for a Love that Works"

I am your friend. I am on your side. I am sending you thoughts of love. I listen to and I hear what you have to say. I open my heart to receive. I accept all your actions as your desire to be loved. I see the beauty within you.

I am letting in your love.

I am letting in your love.

I am letting in your love.

I thank you for listening and loving and caressing and cajoling and laughing and trying and hoping and caring and being and doing and buying and supporting and sharing and helping and nurturing and protecting and walking the walk and talking the talk. I thank you for being a part of my life.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I let go of fairy tale expectations that set me up for disappointment. The only expectation I have of this relationship—or any relationship, whether it lasts one week, twenty-five years, or until death do us part—is that I will learn more about opening my heart and becoming a more loving person.

I am opening my heart to love.

I am opening my heart to love.

I am opening my heart to love.

From "Inner Talk for Peace of Mind"

I let go of my worry about money. I release all thoughts of scarcity. There is always enough. I am capable of creating everything I need. I move into the light and see the huge expanse of possibility.

Life is an exciting adventure.

Life is an exciting adventure.

Life is an exciting adventure.

I ease up on myself. I need not rush. I let go and allow the river to carry me to new adventures. I obey the laws of Eternal Rhythm. There is plenty of time for me to do everything I need to do. I constantly remind myself…

There is plenty of time.

There is plenty of time.

There is plenty of time.

I am at peace. All the weights are now being lifted from my shoulders. I feel calm. I feel free. I let in the loving Light of the Universe. I feel the warmth course throughout my body. I become the Light.

I touch the beauty of who I am.

I touch the beauty of who I am.

I touch the beauty of who I am.

Imagine listening to such thoughts daily. Imagine the negative thoughts slowly being replaced with positive thoughts. Imagine seeing the world with the beauty of the best of who you are. That’s what constant repetition of these CDs would allow to happen. Amazingly, you do not need to believe the words for them to have a powerful effect on your life. By just hearing them over and over again, they will become automatic in your thinking, hence moving you into a happier, healthier and more peaceful way of being. Susan also wants to let you in on a little secret. She has received feedback from a number of fans that these CDs are perfect for calming their small children when nothing else is working. Come to think of it, what better time to embrace all these thoughts of peace, power and love than when we are very young?

Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute in San Diego Launches Innovative New Website

Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute in San Diego Launches Innovative New Website

A top vision care practice in San Diego, California is opening its virtual doors to the worldwide web with new, cutting-edge technology. The Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute is using internet video and other advanced tools on a new website designed to educate visitors as to how they can improve their eyesight.

San Diego, CA (Vocus) April 23, 2009

The Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute, an eye care practice offering treatment options such as presbyopia correction, implantable contact lenses, and LASIK in San Diego, California, is inviting the community to “see as young as you feel” with a new, state-of-the-art website designed to introduce visitors to its practice in the most technologically advanced way.

Http://www. seeasyoungasyoufeel. com is a comprehensive website incorporating internet video, detailed descriptions of the facility and its procedures, and an updated blog.

Working with Rosemont Media, a nationally recognized LASIK and eye care website design firm, the team of ophthalmologists and LASIK surgeons at the Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute have developed a website that primarily uses detailed web video documentaries to provide a virtual tour of the practice and its physicians.

With the new website and innovative tools for people who are considering vision care treatment, Dr. Jack Weiss, one of the facility’s LASIK and cataract surgeons, says patients can get a fuller picture of what they offer. “It’s definitely an exciting time to be a patient who would contemplate refractive surgery because we have so many options available. And the nice thing is, here at Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute, we have all those options available to you right here.”

About the Facility
The Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), an organization that ensures medical practices adhere to the highest standard of care. The facility has been at the forefront of vision care technology and treatment for many years. Its San Diego laser vision correction surgeons have the distinction of being involved with many major clinical trials that have lead to advances in laser eye surgery technology in use today, and have performed more than 45,000 refractive surgery procedures combined. Dr. Michael Gordon, a founder of the Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute who is recognized as an authority in the field of refractive surgery, says one of the things that makes the facility unique is its full range of treatment options. “We can offer a full range of vision care, from the surgery side: the lens-based surgery; laser-based vision correction; unique needs for some types of glasses, pre-operatively or post-operatively – we have it all here in one facility. We have helped introduce new technology not only to San Diego, but really the world.”

Presbyopia Correction Surgery
Doctors at the Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute say that - although they have been leaders in LASIK laser eye surgery procedures to address nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism in patients who would like to reduce or eliminate their dependence on corrective eyewear - LASIK is just one of many innovative treatments they offer. In addition to conductive keratoplasty (CK), advanced lens implants such as intraocular lenses (IOLs), and PRK Monovision procedures, Gordon Binder & Weiss offers more options for the correction of Presbyopia than any other center in the country. Presbyopia is a condition which affects most people after the age of 40, causing individuals who may never have had vision problems in the past to start losing focus on objects up close, which often necessitates reading glasses for a clearer view. Gordon Binder & Weiss is changing that by offering multiple treatment platforms at their San Diego Presbyopia facility, including lens replacement via implant surgery and Presbyopic Multi-focal LASIK (PML) and PRK, procedures pioneered by the facility’s own team of surgeons. The new website incorporates information such as this, along with detailed histories of the surgeons and one-on-one interviews, into their video documentaries so that prospective patients can get a clear introduction to the Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute before even setting foot inside the practice.

The time to educate patients on the revolutionary treatments available to correct vision problems is now. According to Dr. Perry and Dr. Weiss: “There’s never been a better time for refractive surgery because we have much safer technology in terms of the intralase, in terms of the wavefront-guided lasers, and in terms of our diagnosis of disease. It’s a very exciting time.”

For more information, the Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute can be reached at 8910 University Center Lane, Suite 800, San Diego, CA 92122 – (858) 455-6800, or toll free at 1-800-950-6876.

The Sensible Drinking System Offers a Moderate Drinking Program In a Box

The Sensible Drinking System Offers a Moderate Drinking Program In a Box

The first over-the-counter product a drinker can complete on their own at home without professional help, The Sensible Drinking System teaches an individual how to modify drinking habits, reduce alcohol consumption and prevent alcoholism.

(PRWEB) April 27, 2005

Drink/Link Moderate Drinking Programs & Products is proud to offer The Sensible Drinking System - a revolutionary over-the-counter product teaching drinkers to modify drinking habits and attitudes, reduce alcohol consumption and prevent alcoholism on their own at home without professional help. An early intervention product designed to prevent a serious drinking problem from developing and to cut the alcohol abuse in the United States, it is a breakthrough for drinkers, alcohol abuse, healthcare and insurance professionals.

This simple product includes a Workbook, containing clinically-proven moderate drinking skills, a Motivational Tape to keep the drinker on track, a Drinking Diary and Graph to monitor drinking behavior and Step-by-Step Instructions to complete the seven week program.

How does it work? Based on the same format as all Drink/Link Moderate Drinking Programs, the first week the drinker learns five safe-drinking guidelines and each of the remaining six weeks they learn behavioral, cognitive, motivational and lifestyle strategies and techniques to stay within the guidelines they learn the first week. When they complete the at-home program the drinker determines if they are better able to manage drinking, if they need a more intensive program like the Telephone Counseling Program offered by Drink/Link or if abstinence would be the easiest solution. Whatever their decision, they learn within seven short weeks what path they should follow.

The Sensible Drinking System fills a void for drinkers and in the alcohol abuse treatment field.

With it drinkers have the convenience and confidentiality of an over-the-counter product to address drinking behavior early on and don't have to worry about attending meetings, believing in a higher power or expensive professional help to modify drinking habits. And the sooner a drinker faces a potential drinking problem, the less likely they will progress to alcoholism.

ElringKlinger Increases Functionality of Oil Pan made of DuPont™ Zytel&#174

ElringKlinger Increases Functionality of Oil Pan made of DuPont™ Zytel®

The German automotive supplier ElringKlinger has developed a production-ready, multifunctional car oil pan made of a grade of glass-fiber-reinforced DuPont™ Zytel® nylon resin optimized for use in engine compartments.

Detroit, MI (Vocus) May 22, 2009

The German automotive supplier ElringKlinger has developed a production-ready, multifunctional car oil pan made of a grade of glass-fiber-reinforced DuPont™ Zytel® nylon resin optimized for use in engine compartments. In addition to the benefits of previous polymer designs, the new pan – designed for use in pick-up trucks – now integrates significant components of the oil-circulation system. This enables a further reduction of vehicle weight as well as manufacturing and assembly costs. Accordingly, the new oil pan is approximately 40 percent lighter than its aluminum counterpart.

When car oil pans made of thermoplastic polymers were first launched, the initial priority was the replacement of considerably heavier components made of diecast or sheet metal. Progressive developments are now seeking to use the high design freedom associated with thermoplastics to fulfill additional functions. Accordingly, the new design from ElringKlinger involves the single-stage production of not just the pan (measuring approximately 550 mm long, 400 mm wide and 300 mm high) but also sections of the pipeline for suction of oil from the sump, the fastening flanges for the pressure pipelines to and from the oil filter and the oil filter flange with a directly encapsulated oil filter thread. Separate injection-molded parts include the two-piece cover of the suction pipe, the double pipe for connection with the oil filter and the cover for the oil filter flange. All of the individual parts, as well as the polymer-encapsulated metal sieve located in the oil intake, are connected to the pan using the cost-efficient friction welding process.

The manufacturer chose Zytel® 70G35 HSLRA4 for the production of the highly integrated oil pan. The nylon 66 is reinforced with 35 wt percent glass fibers and, as a result, is very stiff, creep - and hydrolysis-resistant. It combines high-impact resistance over a wide temperature range with a high resistance to lubricants, road salts and other media commonly present in vehicles. The additional heat stabilization enables the long-term usage of the material at temperatures of up to 150°C and makes it particularly resistant to heat aging. Moreover, glass-fiber-reinforced Zytel® nylon resin provides good mechanical and acoustic attenuation properties.

“Our selection of a particularly high-melt flow grade of Zytel® nylon resin meant that we were able to manage the long flow distances at a comparably low injection pressure and despite some very low wall thicknesses,” said Ralf Franz, development engineer at ElringKlinger. “This, in turn, reduces cycle times, helps preserve the tool and keeps energy costs low.” In addition, Franz identifies the low warpage behavior of the material as being of decisive benefit to this application, as it facilitates a durable and reliable seal along the circumference of the oil pan. “We had to design the new polymer oil pan in such a way that its connection to the engine was consistent with the metal construction previously used. We were thereby presented with relatively large distances between the connection points. Thanks to the high stiffness of the material and the purpose-made application of ribs, we managed to limit deformation under load to the required rate despite these unfavorable conditions, thus ensuring a constant surface pressure across the whole perimeter.”

Whereas the ribbing located in the upper section of the oil pan principally contributes to dimensional stability in the seal area, the many high ridges in the lower section are designed to absorb external impacts caused, for example, by stones as they are thrown up from the road during normal driving. More significant impacts may also occur when the dismounted engine is placed heavily on the floor during transportation. “Work conducted by DuPont at its technical centers in the United States and Europe included the conducting of crash simulations using LS Dyna software, the investigation of specific material data and the verification of specifications using practical high-speed testing – by this means establishing the suitability of the design,” said Franz. “Thus, we were able to optimize the number, size and position of the external ribbing used to protect against impacts from stones or rough handling in such a way as to meet, and in some cases significantly surpass, OEM equirements with minimal material usage. Also, our calculations of noise emission, made using the same set of data, confirmed compliance with the guidelines.”

For the production of the seals between the pan and the engine, as well as for the connection of oil circuit elements, ElringKlinger also chose a material from DuPont Performance Elastomers -- Vamac® -- the highly heat - and oil-resistant ethylene acrylic elastomer that helps ensure that the joints remain leak-free in the long term.

ElringKlinger is a globally-active development partner and serial supplier for cylinder head - and purpose-made seals, polymer housing modules and shielding systems for engines, transmissions and exhaust lines. ElringKlinger is a global technology leader in these fields thanks to the company’s early adoption of core themes within the automotive industry as its development focus: the reduction of fuel consumption, the reduction and elimination of emissions and the use of alternative fuels and drive technologies. With over 4,100 employees at 27 sites across Europe, America, Asia and Africa, the ElringKlinger Group generated a turnover of 657.8 million Euros in 2008.

Brand Perceptions of Leading Scientific Instrumentation Suppliers

Brand Perceptions of Leading Scientific Instrumentation Suppliers

The life science instrumentation market is characterized by sectors with varying levels of competitive intensity, but across the market as a whole, a number of suppliers have established dominant brands, including Applied Biosystems, Beckman Coulter, Bio-Rad, GE Healthcare, and Agilent Technologies.

ARLINGTON, VA (PRWEB) December 20, 2004

The life science instrumentation market is characterized by sectors with varying levels of competitive intensity, but across the market as a whole, a number of suppliers have established dominant brands, including Applied Biosystems (NYSE:ABI), Beckman Coulter (NYSE:BEC), Bio-Rad (AMEX:BIO), GE Healthcare (NYSE:GE), and Agilent Technologies (NYSE:A).

To help life science executives understand where companies are positioned in the market, BioInformatics, LLC (http://www. gene2drug. com (http://www. gene2drug. com)) has published “Brand Perceptions of Life Science Instrumentation Suppliers.” Based on a survey of more than 1,800 life scientists, the report provides an in-depth look at nine instrumentation categories—from basic instruments like centrifuges to cutting-edge technologies like DNA microarray and high-throughput screening instruments.

“The benchmarks provided in this report will help suppliers identify those core elements that contribute positively to their overall brand perception and where they are performing relative to both their competitors and customer expectations. With this information, steps can be taken to address any weaknesses that are likely to contribute to customer defections and lost share or it may be used to help exploit the weaknesses of their competitors,” said Bill Kelly, President of BioInformatics, LLC.

One area that scientific researchers are less than satisfied with is the level of post-sales support they receive from their instrumentation suppliers—specifically instrument calibration, technical support, replacement parts and service, and warranties. This finding suggests that while suppliers may view a sale as a culmination of a customer relationship, customers view the sale as the beginning of a relationship and have unmet expectations. To increase satisfaction and customer loyalty, suppliers should strive to have ongoing interactions with their customers and offer considerable assistance in the optimal use of the instrument for each customer’s unique applications.

The survey also finds that customers have varying degrees of loyalty to their suppliers of instrumentation, and in some sectors, there are signs that current leaders are facing pressure from competitors. For example, based on who customers believe they will purchase instruments from in the future, Agilent appears to be poised to challenge Waters (NYSE:WAT), a leading supplier of chromatographs, and Applied Biosystems appears to be generating improved brand awareness for its DNA microarray instruments, placing pressure on the current leader, Affymetrix (NASDAQ:AFFX).

Another indicator of changes in the competitive landscape stems from an analysis of the suppliers scientists associate with different types of instruments and those companies they predict they will purchase from in the future. For example, although Beckman Coulter is the supplier most closely associated with cell analysis systems, BD Biosciences (NYSE:BDX) is both the current top supplier and most frequently mentioned future supplier in this category—an indication of the strength of the BD Biosciences brand. As another example, few respondents (7%) associate Thermo Electron (NYSE:TMO) with mass spectrometers; however, Thermo was tied with Applied Biosystems as the most often mentioned future supplier of these instruments. This analysis can be used to spot competitive threats as well as measure the effectiveness of a company’s brand strategies.

“The results of this survey confirm that brand perceptions affect the success of commercial suppliers in the instrumentation market. Innovations and advanced technology are undoubtedly important to life scientists, but performance is the measure by which instrumentation suppliers are most often judged. Strong brands help simplify the choices a customer needs to make by providing reassurance that the progress of research will not be impeded by sub-par performance by a supplier and its instrumentation,” concluded Kelly.

Stand Teens March to Ohio Statehouse

Stand Teens March to Ohio Statehouse

Youth from the Stand anti-tobacco campaign joined at the Statehouse with tobacco control supporters from across the state to protest proposed diversions of nearly $100 million from the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation (TUPCF) to unrelated state programs.

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) May 22, 2005

Tobacco control supporters and stand Teams from across the state, including State Senator Joy Padgett (R-Coshocton), today converged on the Statehouse to rally against proposed funding diversions in the state budget that move nearly $100 million from the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation (TUPCF) to unrelated state programs. Youth and supporters also testified before the Senate Finance Committee, which is currently reviewing the state operating budget, asking for

Restoration of funding and hoping to further raise awareness on the positive progress being made on the frontlines of tobacco control in Ohio.

"stand is our way to fight back against Big Tobacco, which wants nothing more than to take our lives through addiction to their deadly products," said Seth Mitchell, a Tiffin stand Team member who also testified before committee. "We can't let the legislature take our voices and leave us defenseless against an industry that spends more than $1.8 million a day targeting us for addiction."

Senator Padgett, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, addressed the crowd of supporters, applauded their efforts and offered her assistance in reinstating TUPCF's funding. Supporters, wearing T-shirts with targets on them and holding "Sale Pending" signs, were energized by Padgett's support.

"To have Senator Padgett here with us today means a lot to me. Not only am I a TUPCF grantee, whose program could be in jeopardy if this funding is diverted, but I'm a constituent of Padgett's," said Stephanie Davis, cessation program manager, Selby General Hospital. "To have legislative support from such a well-respected member of the Ohio Senate is amazing. That she is my senator makes me feel like the work I do everyday to create a healthier future for Southeast Ohioans is respected and appreciated."

Accompanying Davis was Phyllis Longgrear, who successfully quit using tobacco after 60 years thanks to the cessation services funded by TUPCF and testified before committee.

Funding for the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation (TUPCF), which sponsors stand, the free Ohio Tobacco Quit Line (800-QUIT-NOW), and more than 100 grant programs in Ohio, was most recently diverted by the Ohio House of Representatives last month. In the two-year budget passed by the House, approximately $23 million is diverted from the tobacco fund to pay for the E-Check auto emissions testing program in Northeast Ohio and more than $60 million is proposed to transition Medicaid's Aged, Blind and Disabled program to managed care among other diversions.

The current diversions are added to the more than $350 million already taken by the Ohio Legislature from TUPCF's endowment-money specifically set aside from 1998's Master Settlement Agreement to fund tobacco prevention and cessation programs.

"Today's rally is about showing our legislators we won't sit on the sidelines while they once again try to use our money for unrelated programs," said Mike Renner, TUPCF executive director. "In five short years since being created by the Ohio General Assembly, we have dramatically reduced smoking among youth and adults in Ohio. We are doing what they set us up to do -- saving Ohio lives and money -- exceeding expectations and creating a national model for similar programs."

TUPCF's comprehensive tobacco control programming has helped achieve some major results:

Smoking rates among Ohio's youth decreased 45 percent from 1999 to 2003, according to a 2003 study by the Ohio Department of Health. For the third consecutive year, adult smoking rates in Ohio have declined, with the state dropping to the 11th highest number of adult smokers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC).

According to the 2004 Adult Tobacco Survey, adult smoking in Ohio has decreased 17.4 percent from 26 percent in 2003 to 21.4 percent in 2004. This drop represents approximately 375,000 Ohioans.

The Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation (TUPCF) was created by the Ohio General Assembly in 2000 and is funded with monies secured from the national Master Settlement Agreement(MSA) between tobacco companies and 46 states. TUPCF is charged with reducing tobacco use among Ohioans, with an emphasis on youth, minority and regional populations, pregnant women and others who may be disproportionately affected by the use of tobacco. Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Best Practices, TUPCF programs include the distribution of community grants, the free Ohio Tobacco Quit Line (1-800-QUITNOW), and stand, Ohio's tobacco use counter-marketing campaign.

Top Site For Affordable Health Insurance Offers State-Specific Pages for Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada and Tennessee

Top Site For Affordable Health Insurance Offers State-Specific Pages for Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada and Tennessee

The Health Insurance Resource Center at healthinsurance. org has added state-specific sections on its site for Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada and Tennessee consumers of affordable health insurance. Site partners with top Web quote engine to provide multiple, secure, online affordable health insurance quotes for individuals, families and the self-employed.

Lakeville, MN (PRWEB) February 21, 2007

The Health Insurance Resource Center at healthinsurance. org has added state-specific sections on its site with information targeted for Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada and Tennessee consumers of affordable health insurance.

Healthinsurance. org (http://www. healthinsurance. org (http://www. healthinsurance. org)) is one of the Web's oldest and respected consumer sites, offering consumers access to individual and family health insurance quotes since 1994. The site offers a much-linked-to glossary of health insurance terms, health insurance consumer tips, articles on challenges to the self-employed in finding and keeping health insurance, 53 ways for consumers to reduce their health care expenses, information on state health risk pools for the medically-uninsurable, and much more.

The new state-specific pages join others created last year, according to senior editor Charles Dewey. "Health insurance availability and legislation governing it varies widely from state-to-state," he said. Existing pages for states such as California, Arizona, Michigan and others, have all been updated for 2007, including information on any legislative efforts to improve access to affordable health insurance.

The site is heavily weighted toward directing consumers to non-profit and governmental sites which can provide information without promoting a specific company or plan, Dewey said. "Our intent is to arm consumers with the knowledge they need to make wise choices in protecting their family's health.

"We offer a great deal of original content on healthinsurance. org, but in the state sections we are performing more of an editor's role in seeking out information published elsewhere, and then bringing some organization to it. Our more-than-a-decade's experience following health insurance news allows us to separate the wheat from the chaff." He said the editors pull information from foundations ranking the quality of health care in each state, financial magazine rankings of America's best health insurance plans and much more.

Finding information on health insurance isn't the problem -- wading through it is, he added. "If you do a Google search on 'California Health Insurance' you'll get 16 million results. We want to winnow it down to a handful of the most useful resources and organizes it in a way to save the busy person time," Dewey said.

Healthinsurance. org partners with the Web's leading health insurance quote service in providing its visitors with a way to compare health insurance plan details and pricing online with complete privacy. "Many sites offering health insurance quotes on the Internet are merely lead-generating tools for insurance agents, who follow up with you on the phone and may only offer plans from one or two companies," he said. "We think its much better for consumers to be able to compare and contrast various plans available in their state, using the information we provide elsewhere on our site to make smart decisions for their families -- all while preserving your privacy and avoiding high-pressure sales techniques."

Healthinsurance. org's editors have a rich history of working with non-profits, including 20 years helping two different non-profits produce the annual technical guide on state health risk pools to give the medically-uninsurable access to health care at an affordable price.

Beginning in 1976 in Minnesota, now 34 states have enacted these risk pools which provide access to affordable health care to those who are turned down on the open market because of a pre-existing health problem.

"Obviously, risk pools are only a small part of helping American's uninsured find affordable health insurance," Dewey said. "Because they are state programs, they vary greatly in structure, funding and benefits... some such as Minnesota provide an excellent option for its citizens, while others have had to close enrollment due to lack of funding."

"As we approach the 2008 elections, we are looking at the various proposals offered by presidential candidates," Dewey said, "with an eye towards producing a 'health insurance consumer's voters guide' comparing and contrasting the ideas being considered."

The new states section can be reached from the site's home page at http://www. healthinsurance. org (http://www. healthinsurance. org).

Access to free health insurance quotes, private and online, can be found at http://www. healthinsurance. org/freequote. lasso (http://www. healthinsurance. org/freequote. lasso).

Healthinsurance. org provides free information and resources on individual health insurance, major medical insurance and affordable medical insurance but is not an insurance company or insurance agency.

Nonprofit Balanced Scorecard Leadership Breakfast in Washington, DC

Over 65 nonprofit senior executives from the Washington, DC metro area convened last week to hear Dr. David P. Norton, developer of the Balanced Scorecard concept and author of five best selling Harvard Business School Press books, discuss how the Balanced Scorecard can help public and social sector organizations build capacity to execute strategy.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 1, 2008

Over 65 nonprofit executives from the Washington, DC metro area convened last week to hear Dr. David P. Norton, developer of the Balanced Scorecard concept and author of five best selling Harvard Business School Press books, discuss how the Balanced Scorecard can help public and social sector organizations build capacity to execute strategy.

The event was hosted by Ascendant Strategy Management Group, a consultancy focused on helping nonprofit organizations increase their impact through performance management and measurement. Bill Blacquiere, CEO of Bethany Christian Services, observed:

"The Balanced Scorecard is a remarkable tool that has transformed our organization. It's allowed us to focus on what's important and align our programs with our strategy. I'm excited to see so many of my peers learning more about the scorecard."

At the breakfast presentation, Dr. Norton discussed how the Balanced Scorecard performance management system has been used at organizations like Fulton County Schools, the Economic Development Administration and the American Diabetes Association.

Thomas Bognanno, President and CEO of Community Health Charities of America, remarked, "The Balanced Scorecard is a reliable tool to help validate your strategy and measure outcomes. Wrong strategy in good times is expensive. In challenging economic times it is a matter of survival. It's proven to be an invaluable tool that has helped me lead and manage complex organizations."

The Balanced Scorecard was first developed in 1992 by Drs. Norton and Kaplan and was first applied to the nonprofit space by Laura Downing, one of the founders and managing partners of Ascendant.

Ms. Downing commented, "The Balanced Scorecard is based on a simple premise: measurement matters. By helping organizations align their measurement systems with their management systems, the Balanced Scorecard helps organizations focus on long-term strategy. We're seeing the Balanced Scorecard as a natural response to the increasing demand for transparency in the social sector."

Glenwood Hot Springs Keeps Multiple Generations Coming Back for Decades

Glenwood Hot Springs Keeps Multiple Generations Coming Back for Decades

Whether seven or seventy, Glenwood Hot Springs is a unique destination that manages to entertain and enchant guests no matter their age, with lodging and activity specials year-round and a price point that makes it ideal for family getaways. For multiple generations of visitors, Glenwood Hot Springs is the place they return to not just year after year, but decade after decade. It’s a place where everyone from toddlers and teenagers to parents and great grandparents can gather for memories that last a lifetime.

Glenwood Springs, CO (Vocus) October 12, 2010

Glenwood Hot Springs’ most loyal guests have been making the trek to soak in the hot mineral springs for decades. Some guests like Norm Hutton and his wife Shirley have been regulars for over half of a century. What brings a guest back for 50 plus years? The activities, lodging, value and of course the opportunity to get into plenty of hot water.

Located just miles from Denver along Interstate-70, Glenwood Hot Springs is a convenient mountain getaway, “It’s 153 miles from door to door,” chuckles Hutton who recently celebrated his 76th birthday at the resort, and has done so every year since he turned 50. Hutton also shares his love of Glenwood Hot Springs with his extended family, “Every summer we book 7 or 8 rooms at the (Glenwood Hot Springs) Lodge for about 25 of us: our kids, grandkids and great grandchildren. We always have a wonderful time,” Hutton explains.

On their own, Robert and Jackie Acker have been coming to the Hot Springs Pool for almost 60 years. In 1969, the couple wed and spent their honeymoon at the resort. They’ve been coming back to Glenwood Hot Springs ever since. Jackie remembers the lush rose gardens that once graced the property. After an admiring comment to Dottie Bosco, (the wife of Hank Bosco, who today at 87 continues as president of Glenwood Hot Springs) Jackie found a bouquet of freshly cut roses waiting for her in her room. These days when the couple goes to the Grill for a meal, they make a point of sitting at a special booth. Hanging on the wall above the table is a photo from the mid 1950s that was taken of Robert sitting at the edge of the pool as a young boy.

The Salonyas used to visit during the summer to accommodate their childrens' school and work schedules, but now retired with grown children, they prefer to come during off-peak season. “The prices come down, the crowds are gone, and the weather is still great,” explains John Salonya. John’s wife Alice first splashed in Glenwood Hot Springs Pool when she was five years old. Then the couple started visiting together after they got married 37 years ago. For Alice and her husband, these days there is less splashing and more soaking. “We love the warm water and the mineral therapy, especially at night,” said John. During their stay, the couple makes the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge home base for other activities including dining, golf, rafting, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and massages at the Spa of the Rockies. “Relaxing is what it’s all about,” says John succinctly.

Vic Bovine of North Boulder couldn’t agree more, “Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge is a first class place with a centralized location in a town that’s got world class amenities like fishing, rafting and golfing.” Vic and his family have been visiting Glenwood Hot Springs consistently for 22 years. One of the things that keeps the Bovine family coming back year after year is great service and value. “The people at the (Glenwood Hot Springs) Lodge are courteous and professional. The rooms are immaculate and everyone is very accommodating. Some people think $180 is expensive for a room, but it includes breakfast and admission to the pool. Where else can you stay today for basically $100 per night for a family of four with top quality service and amenities?” said Bovine.

Like the Huttons, the Baiers have also been coming since the mid 1950s. “We were here last month and it felt like a little bit of heaven,” said John Baier who also celebrated a birthday at Glenwood Hot Springs recently. Baier feels like the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge is his home away from home. He ticks off his favorite spots for dinner: the Glenwood Canyon Brewing Company, Tequilas, and Rivers. Vic Bovine also uses the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge as an outpost for other activities that include biking in Glenwood Canyon, fishing on the Roaring Fork River, and having a drink on patio at the nearby Hotel Colorado after a day at the pool.

Baier particularly likes the fact that his visits to Glenwood Hot Springs are always consistent, “One of the things I like best is that our trips to Glenwood Springs are smooth and uneventful. There are no unpleasant surprises and we’re always treated very well.” Vic Bovine calls Glenwood Hot Springs one of Colorado’s hidden treasures and echo’s Baier’s sentiment, “When you work hard all year, you want to pick a place you can count on. We keep coming back because we’ve never been disappointed.”

Glenwood Hot Springs is one of Western Colorado’s most venerable attractions and has hosted tens of thousands of visitors since it opened to the public in 1888, with these four families among its most loyal fans. One thing that does change, however, are the monthly and seasonal specials available to families for lodging and activities. To learn more about this special vacation destination and create family traditions that can last generations, like it has for the Huttons, Ackers, Salonyas, Baiers and Bovines, visit http://www. hotspringspool. com/.

RepairClinic Art Director Launches New Blog: Gracious Living - Day By Day

RepairClinic Art Director Launches New Blog: Gracious Living - Day By Day

Liliana Holtzman, Art Director for online appliance parts retailer, RepairClinic. com, recently launched a new blog: graciouslivingdaybyday. com. The blog focuses on Liliana’s eventful life, from her family stories to her work and everything in between.

Canton, MI (Vocus) April 21, 2010

Liliana Holtzman, Art Director for online appliance parts retailer, RepairClinic. com (http://www. repairclinic. com/), recently launched a new blog: graciouslivingdaybyday. com (http://graciouslivingdaybyday. com/). The blog focuses on Liliana’s eventful life, from her family stories to her work, along with postings about cooking, health and wellness, and the many challenges and joys she, her family and friends face each day. The blog paints an accurate picture of Liliana, as she is an engaging person with many interests spanning a wide spectrum.

About Liliana
Married to husband, Jeff, for 27 years, and the mother of three children, Liliana is the Art Director and Graphic Designer at appliance parts retailer, RepairClinic. com. As a member of the original team that founded the company over 10 years ago, she continues to play an important role in the growth of the company, especially in the midst of preparations for the launch of the new website design to occur later this year.

A Unique Life Story
Liliana’s life has not followed a carefully orchestrated plan…quite the opposite. Her life began in the far away land of Yugoslavia (now Serbia.) Although Liliana has lived in the US since 1973, her family in Europe has faced many challenges over the years: ethnic strife, war, separation of family members, loss of property, and in some cases, even loss of life. As is true for most, her experiences have developed in her a deep sense of family, human compassion and love of life. From stories of her struggle with breast cancer (http://graciouslivingdaybyday. com/category/breast-cancer/), to recipes (http://graciouslivingdaybyday. com/category/recipes/) from her dearest friends, tips about work station ergonomics, and appliance repair tips (http://www. repairclinic. com/RepairHelp/RepairHelp. aspx), the blog is indeed a mish mash of just about everything -- fitting for a woman who also is multi-faceted, with many experiences and much to offer the world as a result. In her own words, Liliana says of herself:

“I try to approach every day with grace. I have many people I love and care about. But I also live in an unpredictable and fickle world. There is not much that I can control in life except my responses to the challenges that come my way. So I try, every day, to make the best of the canvas that is presented to me.”

A Sample of the Blog

Here is a portion of one of her blog posts about a friend whose mother is experiencing Alzheimer’s (http://www. alz. org/alzheimers_disease_what_is_alzheimers. asp) symptoms:
“…we had Thai food, drank strong, hot tea and talked.

She was telling me about her mother, who is experiencing early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. My friend is worried. Sometimes, her mom is perfectly fine and her worries seem unfounded. Her mom can make wonderful meals, keep the house clean, do laundry, go shopping. But then she forgets little things – the security code on the garage opener, dates and events, things that were obvious and familiar a few days ago.

My own mother (http://graciouslivingdaybyday. com/2010/01/17/sunday-dinner/) started experiencing these kinds of symptoms in her late fifties. Assuming that she was depressed, we took her from one doctor to another, but no one seemed to know what the problem was. My mom was the most accomplished baker I knew, but now she would substitute salt for sugar in her tortes. And then, she would say that she didn’t do it – someone else had sneaked in and played a trick on her.”

As visitors read the blog, they will feel as if they've stepped into Liliana’s living room and made themselves comfortable on the sofa with a cup of tea. As she begins to share what’s on her mind that day, they very quickly gain an understanding of her family values and beliefs along with her thirst for learning.

To experience the blog firsthand, go to www. graciouslivingdaybyday. com
