San Diego Top Thermage Doc, Nasrin Mani, Hosts Latest Skin Tightening Preview

San Diego Top Thermage Doc, Nasrin Mani, Hosts Latest Skin Tightening Preview

Nonsurgical skin tightening is finding a stronger niche in the antiaging arena with the development of the new Thermage CPT system. San Diego's Nasrin Mani was selected by Solta Medical to present the new system hailed as a technology breakthrough. Dr. Mani, medical director of the prestigious La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic, gave invited guests a personalized presentation along with live demonstrations of the new features which make Thermage increasingly effective for firming lax and aging skin.

San Diego, CA (Vocus) December 5, 2009

Dr. Nasrin Mani, La Jolla’s popular Cosmetic Laser physician, was selected to help present the latest Thermage technology to the San Diego public. In a California stopover of the National Solta Illumination Tour, Dr. Mani boarded the custom-outfitted airstream and explained to over 150 attendees how the new Thermage improves results and comfort.

The tour crossed the U. S. in a classic silver Airstream equipped with the new Thermage and Fraxel systems for skin tightening and skin resurfacing. In each city, the most recognized Thermage physicians were hand picked to provide public educational presentations.

As a 4 time winner of the Thermage Pinnacle Award (the only doctor in San Diego with this distinction), Dr. Mani was a natural choice. At an invitation event held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla, Dr. Mani and her La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic medical and support staff hosted attendees to a lavish catered affair to help roll out the newest skin tightening system, the Thermage CPT.

“This is fantastic!” enthused one guest. “I’ve been thinking about surgery and learning about Thermage pretty much has changed my mind. I can’t wait to set my appointment.”

On hand were the top level regional representatives from Solta, the parent company for Thermage and Fraxel along with Dr. Mani’s Registered Nurses Tammy Harrington and Mahshid Mani, Physician Assistant Shanan Vali, Office Administrator Wendy Angulo and Dr. Majid Mani who provided the Fraxel laser demonstration.

“Thermage has not yet enjoyed the reputation it deserves,” noted Dr. Mani in her presentation. “And that’s purely because this is not the type of procedure you can cut corners on. We’ve developed our own Thermage protocol with specific customized treatment for each patient. Skin thickness, location of laxity, skin integrity, age, skin health, lifestyle, diet – all these factors play into the success of Thermage. We counsel our patients in how to take care of their skin so the new results they get are results they get to keep.”

When asked in Thermage gave the same results as surgery, Dr. Mani replied. “For some people it can be close - IF they don’t have a great amount of laxity or redundant skin. For many, it’s close enough that they feel they can postpone previously-considered jowl or neck surgery."

When asked if Thermage was a one-time treatment, Dr. Mani responded, "A number of patients are impressed enough to plan on future treatments to 'keep the firm' going. Already many celebrities have routine Thermage because they don’t want to risk surgical alterations that leave them looking like someone else! And nothing can firm body skin like Thermage. There really are no other options that don’t entail scars or surgical risks.”

A special information desk was available for attendees who wanted to learn more about Dr. Mani’s latest injectable Signature Liquid Facelift with Sculptra, a collagen catalyst that spurs volume restoration by action of your own collagen. Dr. Mani has recently added this series-based procedure which can be used in combination with skin tightening, fillers and laser resurfacing for full aesthetic rejuvenation.

The special event was graciously covered by Gente Bien, San Diego’s dual language publication which covers charitable events, society and community leaders in the sister cities of San Diego and Tijuana.

Dr. Nasrin Mani is the Medical Director of La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic located at 1111 Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla, California 92037. She is also a Board Certified Ophthalmologist specializing in vitreo-retinal surgery. Dr. Mani is frequently featured on San Diego’s TV 6 as a medical resource for aesthetic procedures. Mercy Ministries' First West Coast Home to Open in 2009

Mercy Ministries' First West Coast Home to Open in 2009

Sacramento's Buzz Oates Charitable Foundation gives land, $2.5 million, to help make 40-resident California home for troubled girls a reality

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) May 7, 2009

Thanks to a $2.5 million gift and one acre of land, all from the Buzz Oates Charitable Foundation (http://www. buzzoates. com/about/foundation. html), Mercy Ministries of America (http://www. mercyministries. org)--in recognition of May 7, National Children's Mental Health Awareness--today announced the completion of its first West Coast home, an approximately $6 million, 40-resident facility in Lincoln, Calif., just north of Sacramento. Additional funds for the home were obtained through private donations and in-kind gifts acquired by Mercy Ministries and the Buzz Oates Charitable Foundation. Mercy Ministries has not yet announced an opening date for the home, but plans to open the facility in late summer or early fall of 2009.

Nashville, Tenn.-based Mercy Ministries of America is a Christian residential counseling program that serves girls and young women, ages 13-28, who face a combination of life-controlling issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, addictions, depression, eating disorders and unplanned pregnancies. Since 1983, Mercy Ministries' free-of-charge program has served more than 2,000 girls and young women with its combination of best-practice clinical interventions and faith-based counseling.

The Sacramento-area home will be Mercy Ministries' fourth American home, but first on the West Coast -- a fact that Mercy Ministries' founder and president Nancy Alcorn (http://nancyalcorn. wordpress. com) says is important. "So many girls from California have sought our help over the years, but they have always had to travel across the country to find a Mercy Ministries facility. Before the construction of the California home, Mercy Ministries in St. Louis was our closest home to California. Now we will truly be able to serve girls from the West Coast in their own backyard," Alcorn said. "I am so grateful to Buzz Oates, a generous man with a huge heart, and his foundation, The Buzz Oates Charitable Foundation, for giving such a large gift to make this home for hurting young women possible."

The Buzz Oates Charitable Foundation -- a Sacramento-area non-profit focused on faith-based initiatives -- became acquainted with Mercy Ministries after its namesake, entrepreneur and businessman Buzz Oates, expressed a desire to fund a home for women with unplanned pregnancies.

Kathy Fairrington, Oates' daughter and a Foundation board member, eventually spearheaded the project. Fairrington said: "It made sense for us to partner with an organization that had the specific passion and expertise of Mercy Ministries. After spending time getting to know Nancy Alcorn and touring the ministry's Nashville operations, it became clear we were on the right track with an organization that would connect with my father's goals and honor his vision through its operations."

Oates added, "This project's completion has been a dream of mine. I'm excited to be part of the Mercy Ministries organization and grateful for Kathy's careful oversight. This home for troubled girls and young women also wouldn't have been possible without the support and contributions of numerous friends and business partners."

Mercy Ministries' six-month residential counseling program has always been free-of-charge and incorporates Christian principles with best-practice clinical interventions like individual and group counseling and on-site nutritionists. In a recent independent survey of former residents, over 93 percent of respondents said Mercy Ministries transformed their life and restored their hope, which is Mercy Ministries' key objective.

Mercy Ministries of America (http://www. mercyministries. org) currently has homes in Monroe, La.; Nashville, Tenn.; and St. Louis, Mo. Mercy Ministries has global affiliates in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Peru. For more information, visit www. mercyministries. org. To schedule an interview with a Mercy Ministries' representative, contact Jonathan Burns at (615) 522-7016, or via email at jaaronburns@gmail. com.

The Buzz Oates Charitable Foundation is dedicated to supporting community faith-based organizations like Mercy Ministries. Its founder, Marvin "Buzz" Oates, is Chairman Emeritus of The Buzz Oates Group of Companies, a fully integrated commercial real estate development company located in Sacramento, Calif., which offers a single point of contact for a full range of construction, real estate and property management services. Choosing a Highly-Trained Bariatric Surgeon Crucial as Surgical Weight Loss Procedures Rise and Less-Qualified Doctors Flood the Market

Choosing a Highly-Trained Bariatric Surgeon Crucial as Surgical Weight Loss Procedures Rise and Less-Qualified Doctors Flood the Market

In response to the growing consumer demand for weight loss surgery, the number of physicians performing these procedures has also skyrocketed, enabling unqualified doctors to infiltrate the industry. Selecting a board-certified surgeon who is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) helps ensure safe, permanent weight loss options.

Marietta, GA (Vocus) January 8, 2009

Due to the increasing popularity of weight loss surgery, the number of physicians performing these procedures has risen to satisfy the growing demand. This can make the search for a qualified surgeon overwhelming for the potential patient. To help with this process, the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) has created a set of rigid standards to identify the most highly skilled leaders and surgical facilities in the field. Surgeons that meet or exceed their requirements may become members of the ASBS, and their approved practice may be deemed an “ASBS Center of Excellence.”

Because many insurance companies do not cover weight loss surgery it is more important than ever to choose a qualified surgeon and accompanying medical facility. By minimizing the chance of complications and future surgical revisions of gastric bypass surgery and other treatments, patients benefit from greatly minimized health and financial risks. Evidence has shown that the best outcomes and fewest complications occur in facilities with the most experienced surgeons.

About Dr. J. K. Champion, M. D. F. A.C. S
Dr. J. K. Champion is one of the esteemed professionals selected to join the American Society of Bariatric Surgery, and his Videoscopic Institute of Atlanta has been named an “ASBS Center of Excellence” with its consistently superior patient care verified by an independent review organization. In addition to being the founder of the Videoscopic Institute of Atlanta and a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery, bariatric weight loss surgeon J. K. Champion, M. D., F. A.C. S. is board-certified by The American Board of Surgery. Dr. Champion also served on the executive council of the ASBS in 2002. He proposed that rules be developed for weight loss surgery programs to help protect patients and increase safety. He was one of the three founding officers of the Surgical Review Corporation, which was created to establish “Centers of Excellence” in the U. S.

Patient Testimonials

"I am so happy to be LIVING my life again. I’m so thrilled with Dr. Champion and his staff." Christie

"In December 2001, weighing in at my all-time heaviest of 264 lbs. and a size 28, I was told by my doctor that if I continued to gain weight at the rate I was going, I would be dead by age 40. I began my research and found the best bariatric surgeon in America — Dr. Champion. I’ve now lost a total of 124 pounds, weigh 140, and wear a size 8. Dr. Champion has given me a chance for a life I had only dreamed about." Julie

"Dr. JK Champion has not only changed the focus of our eating and food choices…he gave us whole NEW lives!" Michael and Paulette Faber

E-MotivationalSpeaker. com Outlines the Techniques of Youth Motivational Speakers

According to e-MotivationalSpeaker. com, youth motivational speakers employ an arsenal of well rehearsed, practiced techniques that capture the attention of young people and hopefully change lives for the better.

(PRWEB) December 15, 2005

According to e-MotivationalSpeaker. com, youth motivational speakers employ an arsenal of well-rehearsed, practiced techniques that capture the attention of young people and hopefully change lives for the better. They inspire, motivate and teach students, taking them from laughter to tears in rapt attention. If effective, young people are glued to their seats, eager to listen and receptive to the wisdom and teachings contained in the lecture.

Youth motivational speakers must come up with a way of speaking to them that transcends the usual restraints of adult to teen conversations and gets results. Using a style that employs personal stories that teens can relate to, humorous anecdotes, and life lessons to be taken seriously, youth motivational speakers are in high demand all over the country. As teens continue to display life choices that make growing up strong and healthy a risky endeavor, youth motivational speakers find themselves in demand for more time than they could possibly fill.

As e-MotivationalSpeaker. com explains, the most important asset a youth motivational speaker has at his command is his ability to get an audience to believe him. If at any time the speaker comes off as disingenuous or scripted he will lose his audience in a flash. Getting their attention and keeping it is a true art form and probably the most difficult challenge facing any motivational speaker. Talking about experiences from his own life, the speaker creates a bond between himself and the audience that keeps them paying attention and will make them want to follow the advice that he will offer at the end of the talk. Youth motivational speakers are a special breed of professional whose work deserves to be taken seriously and appreciated by all.

About e-motivationalspeaker. com

Blinds Chalet Announces Recyclable EcoGreen Window Shades

Blinds Chalet announces environmentally friendly Comfortex EcoGreen Solar Screen Shades made from PVC free, fully recyclable fabrics. The EcoGreen window shades contain no VOCs and can help a total project achieve LEED certification by meeting 3 of the 5 credit categories needed, Energy Performance, Material and Resource Use, and Indoor Environmental Quality.

Phoenix, AZ (Vocus) April 1, 2009

Blinds Chalet announces Comfortex EcoGreen Solar Screen Shades (http://www. blindschalet. com/ecogreensolarscreenshades. html), an environmentally window treatment that is PVC free and 100% recyclable. Offering both style and function, the roller shade (http://www. blindschalet. com/window-shades/rollershades. html) is one of the first environmentally responsible window treatments available in the industry.
PVC-free - EcoGreen fabrics contain no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which means there is no off-gassing which can contaminate and degrade indoor air quality.  100% Recyclable - All EcoGreen fabrics are completely recyclable which means the fabrics are diverted from landfills and reclaimed.  LEED Certification-friendly - LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification assures that a building project is environmentally responsible and a healthy place to work. While no product can be LEED Certified, the EcoGreen Solar Screen Shade can contribute to an overall building project meeting Energy Performance, Material and Resource Use, and Indoor Environmental Quality, 3 of the 5 credit categories needed for LEED certification.  Energy Efficient - EcoGreen Solar Screen Shades reduce UV rays and diffuse light, allowing you more control over indoor temperatures. "We are excited to have a green blind product like this. It is the first step made toward greening our industry. It will be interesting to see what other green blind products will develop in the coming years," says Ron Manwaring of Blinds Chalet.

Manwaring also suggests that "green" product options aren't the only aspect of window coverings that appeals to the environmentally conscious consumer. "Purchasing a good quality window covering can also decrease the negative impact the average consumer will have on the environment. Low cost, low quality products are typically replaced within a few years and end up in landfills. High quality blinds have a longer lifespan," says Manwaring

Noraxon Hosts Seminar on Surface EMG for Clinical Practitioners

Noraxon Hosts Seminar on Surface EMG for Clinical Practitioners

Seminar May 15-16 entitled “Surface EMG in Assisted Rehabilitation: Muscle Imbalance and Orthopedic Dysfunction,” presented by Glenn Kasman, M. S., P. T. in Seattle, Wash.

Scottsdale, AA (PRWEB) April 3, 2004

Noraxon U. S.A. Inc., a leader in surface electromyography and biomechanical sensor technology, is hosting a two-day comprehensive seminar May 15-16 entitled “Surface EMG in Assisted Rehabilitation: Muscle Imbalance and Orthopedic Dysfunction,” presented by Glenn Kasman, M. S., P. T. in Seattle, Wash.

Physical medicine practitioners routinely assess muscle activity while working with patients that experience musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction. Surface electromyography (SEMG) provides scientifically reliable and valid data regarding musclesÂ’ physiological capacity to function. Clinicians implementing SEMG into their practice obtain evidence-based data of muscle feedback and progression during patient assessment and treatment. This information helps the practitioner target the intended muscle, recommend the most effective treatment for faster patient recovery, and provide documentation for claims processing.

The hands-on seminar will familiarize clinical practitioners with SEMG fundamentals as well as specific assessment procedures and interventions for muscle imbalance and orthopedic dysfunction. Practitioners will learn how to identify if treatments are targeting the intended muscles, implement SEMG into therapy training, and prescribe the most effective exercises for patient treatment. The course includes lectures, demonstrations and lab sessions. No prior experience with SEMG is required.

The seminar will be held from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m. on both Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16 at Movement Systems Physical Therapy located in Seattle, Wash. The seminar costs $275 per participant, which includes lunch, documentation for continuing education units, and course material. Registration is required. Contact Noraxon at (800) 364-8985 or visit www. noraxon. com for further information.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) December 11, 2008

Cenegenics® International, subsidiary of age-management leader Cenegenics® Medical Institute (http://www. cenegenics. com), is initiating its global expansion campaign by partnering with a group of physicians in India to open an age management medicine center in the Hyderabad metro area. Cenegenics India will begin seeing patients during the first quarter of 2009.

Hailed as the "next medical paradigm," the Cenegenics program (http://www. cenegenics. com/index2.html) offers established protocols that lengthen health span and prevent or delay age-related disease. Their science-based approach has garnered significant media attention, such as 60 Minutes, 20/20, Nightline and GQ, among many others.

"As the recognized authority in age management, Cenegenics is committed to international expansion. Opening Cenegenics India reinforces our position that age management medicine is the future of medicine. We're looking forward to opening more Cenegenics International facilities around the world to accommodate patients worldwide," Mark Newburg, CEO of Cenegenics International, said.

With a population of 6.1 million, Hyderabad is ideal for the inaugural Cenegenics International center. Hyderabad incorporates 12 surrounding municipalities and is the second largest city in India.

The Cenegenics India medical facility -- with a projected 5,000 square feet -- will be designed to treat over 100 new patients annually and house a conference/consultation room, physician offices and exam, diagnostic and VIP rooms.

To ensure expert patient care and adherence to established Cenegenics protocols, local physicians in Hyderabad will be trained at Cenegenics Las Vegas, headquarters for the global giant who also has five other domestic medical centers with more scheduled to open throughout 2009 in major U. Joe Murray -- The Next Big Thing in Olympic Rings; CNP Professional Plays Key Supplementary Role in Boxing's Latest Star

Joe Murray -- The Next Big Thing in Olympic Rings; CNP Professional Plays Key Supplementary Role in Boxing's Latest Star

The latest boxing star to emerge onto the world stage is Manchester bantamweight Joe Murray, 21, who'll be representing his country in the Beijing Olympics from August 12th onwards.

(Vocus) July 1, 2008

The latest boxing star to emerge onto the world stage is Manchester bantamweight Joe Murray, 21, who'll be representing his country in the Beijing Olympics from August 12th onwards.

But Joe's markedly different from Olympic boxers of the past. Apart from being only the second Mancunian in history to reach the Olympic boxing finals, he's part of a growing number of boxers - including world champion Ricky Hatton - taking extra advice on diet and exercise from Kerry Kayes of CNP Professional, who is changing thinking on the subject of sports nutrition.

Joe Murray's trainer, Joe Gallagher, spotted his potential when the youngster was only 13, and has guided him to the brink of stardom in the intervening eight years. "Although he's still an amateur, he's training like a pro - I've never known anyone like him - a real all-rounder. He's so fit and has got the greatest agility I've seen in any boxer."

And helping to develop these extraordinary qualities is the radical guidance of Kerry Kayes. Kayes is the former award-winning bodybuilder, gym operator and creator of the CNP Professional supplements program. He has come to believe that much conventional thinking on sports diets is misplaced. In particular, he encourages intensive protein supplements, strict diets and drinking much more water than boxers traditionally drink.

In focusing on protein supplements and water intake, the CNP Professional protein supplements program upturns conventional wisdom. "For years boxers have cut down on food and water to stay at target weights. That's completely the wrong attitude," argues Kerry Kayes.

"As a boxer's training gets more intense nearer the fight he needs more nutrients to help his body repair and recuperate from the positive stress of training. But he still has to stay in weight to make the weigh-in. So he can't get all the nutrients from his food alone because then he'd end up taking in too many Kcalories. CNP protein supplements ensure that he gets the high amount of nutrients he needs in a low Kcalorie environment."

In May, before leaving for three weeks of acclimatisation training in China, Joe Murray experienced the first fruits of fame as he greeted the Manchester United home crowd on the hallowed turf of Old Trafford. He also travelled to Downing Street in April to meet the Prime Minister, a source of pride for Gallagher, who says that boxing is an ideal way for boys from any background to get the best out of life.

Joe leaves for China again on July 22nd, ready for his fights in mid-August. If he returns to the UK with a medal, will he stay an amateur to defend it in London in 2012, or be tempted to turn pro? While his older brother John, himself an undefeated star in the lightweight division, turned pro at 18, Joe remains undecided.

Gallagher's pride in Joe Murray is that of a genuine Mancunian. "Joe is only the second man in history from Manchester to get to the boxing finals of the Olympics, and the first from Manchester to win a medal at the World Boxing Championships, where he won bronze in Chicago in 2007.

"Not all great Olympic fighters come from London, even if they end up going there in 2012!"

Kerry Kayes emphasises that the benefits of CNP protein supplements and extra water are ideal for all active sportspeople, not just boxers. "Anyone working to peak physical fitness can benefit," he says.

Notes for editors
CNP Professional is a leading supplier of sports nutrition supplements ranging from protein shakes, protein bars, creatine supplements, meal replacements, mass gainers, weight loss supplements and post work out shakes all designed for the ultimate in sports nutrition.

Kerry Kayes, the founder of CNP Professional is a former national bodybuilding champion. He has been involved in sports nutrition for many years and his dietary expertise has established him as 'the man in the know' to sportspeople worldwide including boxer Ricky Hatton, Sean Long of St Helen's RLFC and David Dunn of Blackburn Rovers.

CNP Professional supplements are carefully formulated to ensure that the body is able to make best use of the nutrients. Unlike some protein supplements, CNP Professional's products are easy to drink - in fact, the Pro Slam only takes 5 seconds.

There are several articles explaining protein nutrition supplements on the CNP website - go to the home page and click on 'nutrition' under the articles section.

A guide to Joe Murray's diet :

At the heart of the training /weight-loss Kerry Kayes approach is the CNP Professional 'Pro' range of protein supplements. It starts off in the morning with Pro CLA, capsules of a healthy fat that have been shown to help reduce bodyfat whilst retaining and possibly helping to increase muscle tissue.

For breakfast the sportsman enjoys Pro MR or Pro Peptide - blends of undenatured "fast and slow" proteins - sometimes with porridge, as well as Pro Vital (high strength multi-vitamin/mineral/antioxidant formula capsules) and Pro Lipid, an EFA supplement delivering unique ratios of Omega 3, 6 & 9 and cholesterol-lowering plant sterols. Around 45 mins before training, on leaving home, he will take Pro GF, a formula of creatine and nitric oxide which helps water hydrate the body during the workout.

Immediately before all hard exercise comes a serving of Pro Slam, a ready-to-drink vial that delivers 27 grams of protein without carbohydrates or fats in only 86ml. It comes in three delicious fruit flavours and can be drunk in seconds, delivering a 'tingle' that shows it's working quickly. Immediately after the workout he'll take a Pro Recover, a recovery drink containing fast-acting carbohydrates and proteins that aid muscle repair and growth, as well as antioxidants that help to limit the muscle damage caused by intense exercise.

If the sportsman feels really hungry for a snack, he's advised to eat a Pro Flapjack, combining the complex carbohydrate of oats, with a high-protein blend, without the high sugar and fat content of most commercial products.

The biggest meal of the day usually comes in mid-afternoon, with chicken, fish or turkey accompanied by potatoes, rice or pasta, and - naturally - plenty of green vegetables, followed by relaxing to digest the meal properly.

An evening run would be preceded by a Pro Slam, with a Pro Recover afterwards, with more Pro Vital and Pro Lipid capsules during the evening, and Pro MR again shortly before bed, to ensure the body has nutrients to repair and recover during the night.

Colored Eyeglasses Help Avoid Obesity

Colored Eyeglasses Help Avoid Obesity

There is a new approach to losing weight and avoiding obesity. This is accomplished by wearing eyeglasses for a few hours before bedtime. It sounds far fetched, but is based on the discovery that sleep deprivation and obesity go together. The glasses allow melatonin (the sleep hormone) to flow in advance of going to bed. Sleep comes more quickly and deeply.

University Heights, OH (PRWEB) May 26, 2006

A recent large study of the relationship between sleep deprivation and obesity shows that those who sleep less than 7-9 hours a night have a higher risk of being obese. Those who sleep 4 hours have a 73% higher risk of being obese and those who sleep 6 hours have a 23% higher risk. This is according to a recent study at Columbia University.

Physicists at John Carroll University have come up with a new way to get more and better sleep. It has been known for years that the sleep hormone, melatonin is only produced by the pineal gland when the eyes are in darkness. By using artificial light in the evening before going to bed, people are depriving themselves of the thing that will help them sleep, melatonin. In 2001 it was discovered that different colors of light have different effects on the pineal gland. It is the blue component in light that causes melatonin suppression. By blocking the blue light from the eyes for a few hours before bedtime, the melatonin will begin flowing in advance of bedtime. By the time the head hits the pillow there is a generous supply and sleep comes very quickly. Sleep is also deeper and the body slows down. Even the kidneys slow down so there is less need to get up during the night. People who haven’t slept well in years report deep and restful sleep by using the glasses.

By blocking just the blue light there are plenty of other colors so one can watch television, read or work on a computer. The colors are a little strange at first but one adapts to it fairly quickly. The special glasses block only the critical wavelengths in the blue and not the rest of the spectrum. Not all blue blocking glasses have this feature. To be sure they are blocking the critical colors the glasses are checked with a spectrometer.

It will be years before clinical trials of the glasses are completed to confirm that they help people avoid obesity. There is no need to wait for the results. It took 30 years before everyone agreed that smoking causes lung cancer. Wearing glasses in the evening is not difficult or expensive and is guaranteed to help in getting a good-nights-sleep. Greater safety is one benefit. Drowsy driving is just as bad as drunk driving but much more common. Having more melatonin has been shown in both animal and human experiments to enhance good health. Glasses are available at the web site www. sleepglasses. com.

Good Samaritan HospitalÂ’s Cardiac Application Advances to Project Review Committee -- New York State Department of Health Recommends Approval

Good Samaritan HospitalÂ’s Cardiac Application Advances to Project Review Committee -- New York State Department of Health Recommends Approval

The Project Review Committee of the New York State Department of HealthÂ’s Hospital Review and Planning Council announced that it will hear Good Samaritan HospitalÂ’s application for a Certificate of Need (CON) that, if approved, would pave the way for a comprehensive cardiac surgery program at the Rockland County hospital. The formal hearing before the committee will take place in Albany at 9:00 AM on Thursday, February 3, 2005.

(PRWEB) January 24, 2005

“We are gratified that our application to bring urgently needed advanced cardiac surgery and care to our community is advancing to the Project Review Committee with a recommendation for approval from the Department of Health,” said Dominick Stanzione, CEO of Bon Secours Charity Health System, of which Good Samaritan Hospital is a member.

Should the committee vote to recommend approval of the CON, Good SamaritanÂ’s application would then be presented to the full State Hospital Review and Planning Council immediately following the Project Review Committee meeting. Approval at the SHRPC level would send the application to Dr. Antonia C. Novello New York State Commissioner of Health, for final action.

In its application, Good Samaritan Hospital has proposed adding an adult interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery program to its service area in Rockland, Orange and Sullivan Counties. Good Samaritan’s Interventional cardiac program will fill a critical void for residents of these counties, making advanced cardiac care more readily accessible. Currently, no medical institution in the 130-mile corridor west of the Hudson River – from the New Jersey border to Albany – offers comprehensive cardiac surgery.

“All of us at Good Samaritan Hospital are grateful for the heartfelt and vocal community support that helped to bring this issue to the forefront for consideration,” said Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator of Good Samaritan Hospital. “We are especially grateful to Governor Pataki, and to the Department of Health, for helping to move the process forward.”

Good Samaritan Hospital is a member of Bon Secours Health System, Inc., one of the nationÂ’s leading Catholic healthcare systems. It is also part of the regional Bon Secours Charity Health System, which includes St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, NY and Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, New York. Additionally, Bon Secours Charity Health System provides the services of a Certified Home Health Agency, two long-term care facilities, an assisted living and adult home facility and several other medical programs. “Migraine Calculator” Shows Benefits Of Treating Employee Migraines

Today, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) unveiled a new “Migraine Calculator” at the Institute for Health and Productivity Management conference in Orlando, Florida. The calculator is a web-based tool designed to help employers estimate the incidence of migraine, its impact on their work force, and the potential net savings of helping employees get treatment.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 10, 2005

Today, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) unveiled a new “Migraine Calculator” at the Institute for Health and Productivity Management conference in Orlando, Florida. The calculator is a web-based tool designed to help employers estimate the incidence of migraine, its impact on their work force, and the potential net savings of helping employees get treatment. The calculator is available at http://www. migrainecalculator. com (http://www. migrainecalculator. com).

“Migraines rob millions of Americans of the ability to live normal lives and to do their work,” said Billy Tauzin, PhRMA President and CEO. “Treatments needed to end the suffering and give people their lives back are readily available. The migraine calculator lets employers see how they can boost productivity by helping employees suffering from migraines get the treatment they need,” added Mr. Tauzin.

The Migraine Calculator, or Productivity Impact Model (PMI), was developed by The HSM Group, Ltd., a health care consulting firm based in Scottsdale, Arizona, with support from PhRMA. The calculator estimates the incidence of migraine and its impact on a companyÂ’s work force, based on the companyÂ’s size, type of industry, location and the age and gender of employees. It computes the expected number of days each year that employees will be absent or suffer low productivity due to migraine and calculates the associated cost to the business. It also projects the potential net savings the company can expect, after considering the cost of treatment, if employees obtain treatment.

Approximately 28 million Americans suffer from migraine headaches, mostly affecting 30-49-year-olds, who are in their peak working years. Women are three times more likely than men to suffer from migraines. The disabling symptoms of migraines cost employers around $13 billion annually in missed days and lower workplace productivity.

“This new easy to use Internet-based migraine calculator integrates extensive research findings from peer-reviewed literature and turns them into useable results for employers. It’s an important tool that allows employers to see the whole picture on the economics and value of getting patients with migraines needed treatment,” said Sheryl Bronkesh, president of The HSM Group, Ltd. “Basically, the calculator allows employers to see a snapshot of the potential financial benefits for their company if they assist their employees who are battling migraines.”

A variety of treatment options to relieve migraines now exist. For example, studies show that one class of medicines called “Triptans” is very effective in relieving migraine symptoms and increasing productivity. Other available treatments include ergot alkaloids, opiates, prophylactic medications, prescription and non-prescription-strength NSAIDs.

Migraine headaches can cause intense pulsing and throbbing pain, nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, and in some cases, even speech and visual disturbances and can last anywhere from 4 to 72 hours. It is estimated that migraine sufferers will miss at least one day of work or school every three months. In addition to absenteeism, 51 percent reported that work or school productivity was at least reduced by half.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) represents the countryÂ’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, which are devoted to inventing medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives. PhRMA members invested an estimated $38.8 billion in 2004 in discovering and developing new medicines. PhRMA companies are leading the way in the search for new cures.

A Comic Each Day Keeps the Doctor Away

A Comic Each Day Keeps the Doctor Away

Daily doses of humor proven heart-healthy. Regular "comic breaks" recommended.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) March 13, 2006

A team of researchers from the University of Maryland School of Medicine has shown for the first time that laughter is linked to healthy function of blood vessels, which decreases your risk for heart disease and may help protect you from heart attack. See www. umm. edu. UMM recommends increasing your exposure to humor daily, such as by reading and collecting funny cartoons.

“Makes perfect sense to me,” says Bill Holbrook, nationally syndicated cartoonist who recently began contributing his popular web comic Kevin and Kell to www. gogags. com, which delivers comics to cell phones. “Laughter is the best medicine, right? I’m thrilled that my strip is a part of GoGags, because it makes comics available whenever and wherever you want or need a dose of humor.”

Besides incorporating frequent comic breaks into your daily routine, recommendations based on the UMM study remind that humor is subjective and people need to learn what makes them laugh. Dawn Douglass, president of Full Tilt Features, the comics syndicate behind gogags. com says GoGags’ goal is to offer a wide variety of comics from various cartoonists around the world. So far, over a dozen professional cartoonists have signed up to supply gags, from the United States, Canada and even Germany.

“I learned while working at a winery that if somebody says they don’t like wine, it’s only because they haven’t tasted enough types,” said Douglass. “It’s the same with comics. You just need to do a lot of ‘taste testing’ to discover what you love. Unfortunately, newspapers don’t give readers access to a lot of variety. We’re working hard to change that.”

“I love that GoGags offers so many different comic styles and subjects to choose from,” says Annie Taylor-Lebel, another GoGags contributor. “Besides being able to do various subject sorts and cartoonist searches from our website, soon people will be able to download gags straight from their phone via their own customized list of favorite topics, like animal gags, workplace humor or whatever it is they enjoy most.”

Douglass points out that comics are especially good for breaking up the day with laughs, because there is no time investment required, like with movies or even short stories. “We’re working to provide easy access to the world’s most pithy and instantly gratifying humor,” she says. “And not just via cell phones, but also in other exciting ways.”

One such way is a service currently being developed called “My Fridj™,” where GoGag users can collect their favorite cartoons and display them on their websites and blogs, like a personal gallery. They will be able to attach comments to each gag and get feedback from visitors to their Fridj.

“We all enjoy finding clipped cartoons on refrigerators and cubicle walls. Imagine being able to find them on countless blogs in every country, in every home and business, all over the Internet! We’ll put half the world’s cardiologists out of business!” jokes Allen Jones, technical developer of GoGags and My Fridj.

Want more opportunities to laugh so you can help protect your heart? GoGags is just getting started. Stay tooned to www. gogags. com.

Major Facts Ltd Appointed as Amicus Reseller

Major Facts Ltd Appointed as Amicus Reseller

Newly-formed UK technology solutions resellers, Major Facts Ltd, have been appointed by Amicus to provide Amicus VMS (vehicle management solutions) support.

(PRWEB) October 30, 2004

Amicus VMS Ltd has appointed Major Facts Ltd as a value added reseller for its innovative online vehicle management system providing accurate information for all types of material handling and plant equipment.

This partnership is the first of its type and offers Major Facts Ltd access to dedicated assistance, customised support tools and special promotions. The product is called Amicus VMS (Vehicle Management System) which uses some of the latest technologies including GPS/GPRS and GSM, working in tandem with a bespoke core data logger which collates accurately calibrated vehicle data. Each driver operating the vehicle is identified by means of a dedicated touch key, from a ‘Health & Safety’ perspective this is particularly useful as vehicles can then only be operated by authorised drivers.

The Amicus VMS unit records details such as, hours run, driver I. D., start stop times, duration of journeys, speeds, locations, crash data and security. In turn the data collected can be downloaded automatically via integrated software which provides detailed management reports for the operator. This information provides operators with critical data covering key areas of productivity and utilisation and thus increasing overall profitability.

Additional Amicus VMS unit features include: - auxiliary monitoring such as power take off, warning lights, real time tracking and a full selection of management reports. In the event of a vehicle breakdown, a ‘sms’ message can be triggered back to base giving details of the defective vehicle and its location. The cost benefits are highly significant to operators. Both Amicus VMS Ltd and Major Facts Ltd have worked together on various projects over the last six months but will now combine their existing knowledge and work together to provide a vehicle management system that is well suited to the demands of material handling environments such as forklift trucks.

Major Facts Ltd will be marketing the product through a specialised sales team. The first example of this is their forklift management solution, they've named Forktrak.

Forktrak is powered by Amicus vms and has pioneered a revolutionary tailor-made telematics solution to resolve operational issues experienced in the materials handling industry.

Director Steve Green said Forktrak would be capitalising upon our in-depth experience of the materials handling, we have invested time in to working to understand the materials handling suppliers and operators issues.

"This is a unique product that gives both the operator and the supplier Total Fleet Management of their equipment," he said.

SurgiQuest Receives Prestigious Grant Award from Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Program

SurgiQuest Receives Prestigious Grant Award from Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Program

Medical Device Company offers significant technological advances in minimally invasive surgery

Orange, CT (PRWEB) November 19, 2010

SurgiQuest, Inc., headquartered in Orange CT, was recently awarded a grant award from the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Program (QTDP). The program was highly competitive with nearly seven thousand applicants vying for funding.

SurgiQuest received the grant for their efforts in further developing two breakthrough technology platforms, the AirSeal® and AnchorPort® minimally invasive surgery access systems. The AirSeal® System offers smokeless laparoscopy and stable pneumoperitoneum, which means no leakage of abdominal CO2 inflation throughout the entire laparoscopic surgical procedure. The AirSeal® System consists of an innovative trocar, a smoke evacuation filter and a control unit that re-circulates CO2, while constantly filtering and removing smoke-borne toxic pathogens and carcinogens during laparoscopic procedures.

The AirSeal® System offers continuous smoke evacuation with minimal scope smudging and fogging, providing excellent visibility, stable pneumoperitoneum, and unprecedented freedom of instrument maneuverability for surgeons.

SurgiQuest’s AnchorPort® system offers bladeless, optical tip entry with the world’s first and only trocar that self-adjusts to the patient’s abdominal wall thickness. The AnchorPort® cannula’s unique elastomeric design eliminates slippage out of the abdomen during surgery. These innovative trocars can also be used to perform single incision surgery, leaving behind a 1-inch belly button scar that will become almost invisible after the healing process.

“SurgiQuest partnered with alliantgroup, the nation’s premier provider of specialty tax services, during the application process. alliantgroup’s team of biotechnology and life sciences experts guided our company throughout each step of the process and ensured our application was of the highest quality,” said Kurt Azarbarzin, Founder and CEO. “This funding will help SurgiQuest continue our research and development efforts in access surgery, creating new platforms, and allowing us to focus on clinical relevance and patient outcomes.”

QTDP was part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and provides a 50% tax credit or grant to biotech, pharmaceutical and other healthcare companies for qualified investments by eligible companies in taxable years beginning in 2009 and in 2010 in connection with qualifying projects.

In addition to SurgiQuest, Inc. development efforts, other qualifying projects included those designed to:
Treat or prevent diseases or conditions by conducting pre-clinical activities, clinical trials and clinical studies, or carrying out research protocols for the purpose of securing federal government approval by the FDA. Diagnose diseases or conditions or to determine molecular factors related to diseases or conditions by developing molecular diagnostics to guide therapeutic decisions.
