Blessing of the Animals Events Occurring in Record Numbers

Blessing of the Animals Events Occurring in Record Numbers

Pet blessings are on the rise and happening in record numbers according to author and blessing of the animals expert, Diana L Guerrero. The author of BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS shares little know facts about the day when thousands of animals will gather at churches around the world in celebration of World Animal Day and the Feast Day of St Francis.

Big Bear Lake, CA (PRWEB) September 27, 2007

On October 4th creatures that slither, swim, walk, or fly will gather together to form peaceable kingdoms in locations across the world. It isn't some mass foray but an annual celebration known to some as the Feast Day of St Francis and to others as World Animal Day.

"Today more than 63% of households in America have pets and so pet blessings are on the rise. A large percentage of them take place in late September and early October due to celebrations of St Francis and World Animal Day--and this trend will continue to escalate." according to Diana L Guerrero.

Guerrero is a pet blessing expert and author of BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS: A GUIDE TO PRAYERS & CEREMONIES CELEBRATING PETS AND OTHER CREATURES (ISBN 1402729677) a new book that explores the long traditions of pet blessings and contemporary trends such as pet parties and pet memorials.

Diana said, "All faith ceremonies and other gatherings celebrate this day. Anecdotal accounts about animal blessings surface frequently, going back to the 4th Century, but actual documentation is scarce. World Animal Day, originally established in 1931, was conceived by a group of ecologists as a way to highlight the plight of endangered species, but it wasn't until 2003 when it became a worldwide celebration of animal life of all types."

During her work on BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS Guerrero interviewed many spiritual leaders about their animal blessings and discovered that animals catalyze people to cross religious lines to find common ground and that contemporary ceremonies have become mainstream staples of the metro pet crowd.

Pet showers and parties, pet eulogies, yappy hours, pet pageants, howl-o-ween, and many other animal events are on the rise but the celebrations attracting the most animals and pet parents are the blessing of the animals events.

"Blessings are a way to honor animals and the roles they have in our lives. In some areas the blessings still ask for health and fertility of working animals but today most pet owners celebrate the love and companionship they get from their animals."

St. Francis is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment (ecology) and was the founder of the Catholic Franciscan Order. St. Francis believed that all God's creations reveal something about the nature of God and God's love.

"On the Feast Day of St Francis churches across the globe celebrate with blessing of the animals. Here in the United States blessings take place from San Francisco to New York."

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City attracts thousands of people and animals to its animal friendly service which makes the largest blessing of the animals in the United States. The Holy Eucharist & Procession of Animals takes place from late morning until early afternoon but participants arrive hours before services begin.

"Blessing events are usually peaceable kingdoms." Guerrero continued, "Sometimes animals are restless, but most cooperate. That is because they have a list of commandments: Thou shall come when called, Thou shall behave in public..."

If you are interested in the other commandments Guerrero included ten in BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS: A GUIDE TO PRAYERS & CEREMONIES CELEBRATING PETS & OTHER CREATURES (ISBN 1402729677). The book is available at booksellers in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom or online at amazon. com or barnesandnoble. com.

Self-Help Technique Appears to Treat Insomnia Better Than Drugs -- It Often Acts Quickly and Has No Side Effects

Self-Help Technique Appears to Treat Insomnia Better Than Drugs -- It Often Acts Quickly and Has No Side Effects

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), which combines acupuncture-point tapping with focused thought, has helped countless insomniacs sleep through the night. It is also a Universal Healing Aid that has provided thousands of clinical results for trauma, phobias, grief, anger, depression and pain management.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 8, 2006

A new, easy to use, drug free technique introduced by Stanford Engineer Gary Craig can now help the nearly 60 percent of America’s adults who report trouble sleeping. Chronic sleep disruption can affect learning skills, memory, stamina, health, and safety -- and it’s the single most important trigger for depression. Insomnia goes hand in hand with irritability, headaches, and muscle pain. Job injury rates increase 400 percent in sleep-deprived workers, and 16 percent of absenteeism at work can be linked to insomnia.

One of the most successful treatments for insomnia is acupuncture, which uses needles to release energy blocks that, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, interfere with the body’s ability to relax and rest.

But Craig's do-it-yourself technique appears to work just as well, and no needles are necessary. Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT, combines gentle fingertip tapping on key acupuncture points with focused thought to address insomnia’s underlying causes.

“All of the discoveries of modern physics, from Einstein on, support the ancient theory that a universal energy flows through everything in nature,” says Craig. “This energy, called Qi or Chi, flows through the body along paths called meridians. Anything that stimulates points along these meridians helps the energy flow freely. Acupuncture uses needles, acupressure uses massage, and EFT uses fingertip tapping. By combining the tapping with focused thought, you can release energy blocks that interfere with a good night’s sleep. In countless clinical cases, EFT has helped people fall asleep and stay asleep, even in times of stress and adversity.”

EFT has become known as a Universal Healing Aid because it provides relief not only for insomnia but also for trauma, phobias, grief, anger, depression and pain management.

Because it’s new, EFT is not yet familiar to most doctors and patients. However, over 225,000 have downloaded Craig’s free training manual (it gives you all the basics so you can use it immediately).

Http://www. emofree. com/downloadeftmanual. asp? ref=prw-insom (http://www. emofree. com/downloadeftmanual. asp? ref=prw-insom)

Another 5,000 to 10,000 download it each month. Craig’s free online newsletter started with 20 subscribers in 1997 and has spread by word of mouth to 200,000.

There are EFT practitioners in most countries, and the EFT website is now the sixth most actively visited natural health site in the world.

Inc. Magazine Unveils Its Fourth Annual Exclusive List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies—the Inc. 5000

Comfort Keepers® Ranks No. 4012 on the 2010 Inc. 5000 with Three-Year Sales Growth of 32%.

Dayton, OH (PRWEB) September 22, 2010

Inc. magazine today ranked Comfort Keepers® NO. 4012 on its fourth annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy—America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs.

“The leaders of the companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 have figured out how to grow their businesses during the longest recession since the Great Depression,” said Inc. president Bob LaPointe. “The 2010 Inc. 5000 showcases a particularly hardy group of entrepreneurs.”

Comfort Keepers is a leading franchise network providing non-medical, in-home care to seniors and other adults who need assistance with activities of daily living. This includes companion care, personal care and technology solutions that help keep seniors safe, in their own homes. Comfort Keepers’ mission is to provide clients with the highest level of quality of life that is achievable.

Since its founding in 1998, the network has grown to more than 600 franchised locations around the world by staying true to the founders' goal of providing quality, caring in-home services that allow clients the opportunity to age in place. In August of 2009, the brand was strengthened even further by the purchase of the franchisor, CK Franchising, Inc., by Sodexo, one of the world's leading food and facilities management services companies and the global leader in the health care and seniors markets. For more information, visit www. comfortkeepersfranchise. com.

In addition to being listed on the Inc. Magazine 5000 list for the past four years, Comfort Keepers has also been recognized as a World-Class Franchise® for the last two years by the Franchise Research Institute.

Despite the fact that most of this year’s measuring period of 2006-2009 took place during the latest recession, aggregate revenue among the companies on the list actually increased to $321.6 billion, up more than 50 percent from last year. The effects of the recession are seen, however, in the median three-year growth rate, which dropped to 96 percent from last year’s 126 percent. This year’s Inc. 5000 employ a record 1.4 million people, up from one million on last year’s list. With unemployment remaining stubbornly high, policymakers and business leaders will do well to look to the Inc. 5000 companies for fresh ideas on achieving growth and creating jobs.

Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found on www. inc. com/5000 (http://www. inc. com/5000).

SIRS, Inc., Evansville ARC, Inc., and GCARC Selects the SyberWorks Web-Based Learning Management System

SIRS, Inc., Evansville ARC, Inc., and GCARC Selects the SyberWorks Web-Based Learning Management System

SyberWorks, a leader in custom e-Learning Solutions and the Learning Management System industry, announced today that they were selected by Southern Indiana Resource Solutions, Inc. (SIRS), a leading advocacy group for individuals with disabilities. Southern Indiana Resource Solutions, Inc., Evansville ARC, Inc., and Gibson County Area Rehabilitation Centers, Inc. will partner together to use the SyberWorks web-based Learning Management System to train their support workers and mental health staffs in advocating and working with people with disabilities.

Newton, MA (PRWEB) July 19, 2006

SyberWorks, a leader in custom e-Learning Solutions and the Learning Management System industry, announced today that they were selected by Southern Indiana Resource Solutions, Inc. (SIRS), a leading advocacy group for individuals with disabilities. Southern Indiana Resource Solutions, Inc., Evansville ARC, Inc., and Gibson County Area Rehabilitation Centers, Inc. will partner together to use the SyberWorks web-based Learning Management System to train their support workers and mental health staffs in advocating and working with people with disabilities.

David Gilmour, Network Administrator for Evansville ARC states, “This project is funded by a grant from the Alcoa Foundation and the Warrick County Community Foundation. Evansville ARC, Gibson County Area Rehabilitation Centers, and SIRS all have similar missions, and are partnering to use the SyberWorks web-based Learning Management System to provide training to their employees.”

Gilmour says, “Each of these organizations has limited resources for training their employees. As you can probably imagine, it would be very difficult to get groups of workers together in a traditional classroom setting from three different organizations in an eight county area. A web-based Learning Management System shared between them seemed to be the perfect solution to keep their employees updated and informed on the latest information, techniques, and policies regarding working with individuals with disabilities.”

Gilmour continues, “We looked at three different e-Learning solutions and found the SyberWorks web-based Learning Management System offered the greatest functionality for our money. We needed a system that could effectively manage a large library of online courses. The team at SyberWorks is great to work with at every level of the organization from sales to training and support. The software itself was easy to set up. I had the system loaded and set up on our systems in a half hour. The software documentation was excellent and I was able to find out what I needed immediately.”

Dave Boggs, CEO of SyberWorks, states, “We are delighted to be working with this group of organizations. It’s always exciting to us to see leading non-profit groups using the SyberWorks Web-Based Learning Management System’s technology to further the community at large.”

Global HIV/AIDS Testing Market to Exceed US$3.5 Billion by 2015, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc

Global HIV/AIDS Testing Market to Exceed US$3.5 Billion by 2015, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

GIA announces the release of a global report on the HIV/AIDS Testing markets. The global market for HIV/AIDS Testing is projected to exceed US$3.5 billion by the year 2015, driven by the increased adoption of HIV testing procedures as an efficient disease management option. Growth is also driven by increased popularity of Rapid HIV test kits and home HIV testing procedures.

San Jose, California (Vocus) October 26, 2010

AIDS continues to command high priority concern in the global healthcare sector, with continuous rise witnessed in the number of people living with AIDS. However, substantial developments in the area have assisted in preventing new HIV infections and reducing the number of AIDS-related deaths. The market is significantly influenced by revolutionary changes in the field of disease monitoring and management. Advent of novel disease-progression study techniques such as genotyping and phenotyping, and developments in viral load monitoring tests have significantly improved therapies offered to HIV/AIDS infected individuals. Rapid HIV test kits are expected to drive future growth in the HIV/AIDS testing market, due to its ability to produce results in less time. Further, home testing practices are expected to become increasingly popular, allowing healthcare providers to identify more number of HIV-affected people.

Europe and the United States accounted for a major share of the revenues generated in the global HIV/AIDS Testing market, as stated by the new market research report on HIV/AIDS testing. Developing countries from Asia and Africa account for over 90% of the total global HIV population. Though HIV testing is the basis of prevention and treatment of AIDS in several such countries, lack of funds and the need for state-of-the-art equipment to run standard tests hampers widespread adoption of HIV tests. Asia-Pacific represents the fastest growing market for HIV/AIDS testing.

Demand for HIV/AIDS monitoring test is driven by the need for constant monitoring to determine disease progression. Further, rising instances of drug resistance and increasing number of genotyping tests are also fuelling demand for monitoring tests. The US and Europe account for more than three-quarters of the overall market, due partly to the affordability and accessibility of these expensive tests in the regions.

Antibody detection is the most commonly used method to detect HIV infection. Accurate HIV antibody testing is a laborious process, since positive results must be confirmed using several different tests. HIV/AIDS screening tests comprising ELISA and Rapid tests represents the largest product segment in the HIV/AIDS testing market.

The HIV testing market is highly competitive with several medical diagnostic, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies vying for market share. Major players profiled in the report include Abbott Laboratories Inc., Biomérieux SA, Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc., Calypte Biomedical Corporation, Celera Group, Gen-Probe Inc., Innogenetics NV, MedMira Laboratories Inc., OraSure Technologies Inc., Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Inc., Roche Diagnostics, and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Inc.

The research report titled “HIV/AIDS Testing: A Global Strategic Business Report” announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a strategic review of key market trends, recent product launches, strategic corporate initiatives, and profiles of key market participants. The report provides annual sales estimates and projections for HIV/AIDs Testing market for the years 2007 through 2015, and 2000 to 2006 by the following geographic markets – United States, Canada, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Rest of World.

Ten Tips to Keep Your New Year's Resolutions, From Developer of Number One Me™

Ten Tips to Keep Your New Year's Resolutions, From Developer of Number One Me™

Expert Lifestyle Architect David Berger offers 10 ideas on how you can achieve your fitness resolutions in the new year. "You CAN do it!"

WILMINGTON, DE, (PRWEB) December 21, 2006

Your intentions are good; you've made a resolution to eat right, lose weight, and become more active. But how do you turn those New Year's promises into action and results?

You CAN Do It! says Fitness Expert and Lifestyle Architect David Berger, who developed the Number One Me™ personal coaching fitness DVD (www. numberoneme. com). David has helped hundreds of people exceed their fitness goals and now, for the first time, he is offering ten tips from his Number One Me program that will help you achieve your New Year's Fitness Resolutions and much more.

Get out of your chair right now! Get up. Do something for yourself at this very moment. Stretch out, take a walk, do some easy calisthenics. (See the beginning exercise below.) Taking the road to the Number One Me™ (www. numberone. com) always starts with one step.

Throw out your scale! Focus on performance, health and well-being goals--not a number on the scale. Focus each day on performing your exercises (calisthenics, walking, jogging, etc.) and on what this performance is leading to (feeling better, fitting in to clothing, buying smaller clothes) and not a variable number on the scale.

Eat less, more often! Eat smaller meals throughout the day and set other nutritional goals, such as eating more fiber and lower fat foods. Achieve one of your goals each week. You are on a life journey; you don't need to change everything at once. Pick one goal each week, share it with those close to you and put a note of your goal on your refrigerator.

Believe you can do this! Write down what you are thinking right now about the challenges you will face in achieving your fitness goals. Are you already making excuses? By becoming aware of negative thoughts, you can change them into positive ideas.

Keep it real! Movie stars, models and pro athletes are not the norm. The average American woman is 5'4" tall, and weighs 152 pounds; the average man is 5'9" and weighs 180 pounds. Set realistic goals and strive to reach your own personal best.

Know what you want! Discover what you really want and need to do to achieve your better health results. Ask yourself the following questions: What are you doing now in terns of your health and well-being and what do you want to do? Make a plan to reach your goals. What is the first step you must take? What are the obstacles? How will you overcome the obstacles? Write these down in a personal action plan.

Dump the chips! It is too difficult to make progress if you keep putting up self imposed barriers. Removing all junky snack foods (sweets, cookies, chips, etc.) from the house is one of the easiest ways for you to stay on track.

Hold yourself accountable! Create an exercise and nutrition calendar. Track exactly what you do and eat each day. Where you are today matters little; what matters the most is the direction you are now moving. This will also help to build your personal integrity (a key value in any successful endeavor!)

Always move forward! Establish a progression of exercises. Never do the same exercise all of the time. The same warm-up, the same exercises with the same resistance, for the same repetitions, for the same amount of time will lead to boredom and no progress! Consistent efforts lead to consistent results!

Take pride in every achievement! As you move forward, take time to reward yourself for achieving goals and reaching even small milestones (progress is made each day!). Set specific rewards, such as going out to a movie, but never reward yourself by stepping away from your exercise or nutrition routine.

This year, put aside the excuses--achieve your New Year's Fitness Resolutions and become your Number One Me!

Beginner Exercise: Chair Stand and Reach

(Please consult your physician prior to beginning this or any other exercise program.)

Start: Seated in chair (preferably a sturdy, high-backed kitchen/dining chair), feet approx. shoulder width apart, head up with excellent posture-- with your back against chair back, (keep eyes focused where wall meets ceiling or up), with hands resting on top of your thighs

Action:

1) Inhale (through nose or mouth) then exhale (through mouth) pushing hands on thighs and using your legs to bring you to a stand in front of the chair--while also bringing your extended arms to an overhead reach.

2) Inhale returning to start, pushing hips back and lowering legs (keep spine neutral) until hips/butt touch chair (keep eyes focused where wall meets ceiling). Repeat for 15 repetitions.

This is just one of the 45+ calisthenic exercises available from David Berger on the NumberOneMe™ DVD, which you can order today at www. numberoneme. com.

About David Berger

At the age of 18, weighing over 250-pounds with a 40-inch waist and smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, David Berger struggled to climb a single flight of stairs. David's journey to better health began when he quit smoking. He also decided that he would immediately begin eating healthier and exercising, climbing a single flight of stairs a day and adding another flight each week. He also started performing calisthenic exercises. Through his commitment to his consistent and progressive approach, he lost over 88-pounds and 6-inches from his waist within one year! David went on to earn a degree in Kinesiology from West Chester University and launch Progressive Fitness Coaching and now the NUMBER ONE ME! personal coaching DVD. David is featured monthly on the Consumer Hotline with Joe Thomas on WDEL-1150AM.

There are several CFC-free reliever inhalers currently available in the UK but Clenil® Modulite® is only the second CFC-free preventer (BDP) inhaler in this market.

The Montreal Protocol1, and the UK Transition Strategy2, provides a commitment to remove CFC-containing products from the market once two alternative products containing beclometasone and at least one CFC-free MDI product for each of budesonide and fluticasone are available in an adequate range of doses. If the Department of Health, DEFRA and/or other interested bodies, deem Clenil® Modulite® to be the ‘trigger’ to withdraw all CFC-containing BDP inhalers, and the current Transition Strategy is invoked, it is anticipated that healthcare professionals will have a 6-month window to manage the transition of all BDP patients to CFC-free BDP.

In England, more than 7 million prescriptions are issued for CFC-containing BDP products every year.3 Importantly, Clenil® Modulite® will be the only CFC-free preventer inhaler that has dose-for-dose equivalence to current CFC-containing preventer inhalers. This will aid a seamless transition as the patient’s prescription dose will not need to be changed.

Years after manufacturers of aerosol cans moved away from CFC propellants in a bid to halt the depletion of the ozone layer, pharmaceutical companies have been undertaking research to find alternative propellants to enable them to remove CFCs from inhalers.

Extensive research by Trinity-Chiesi Pharmaceuticals lead to the development of the Modulite® proprietary technology which enabled the production of a formulation that uses HFA-134a (hydrofluoroalkane) as a propellant instead of CFC.

Aside from this UK launch, the Modulite® technology is already commercially available with beclometasone dipropionate in France, Italy and Germany, with budesonide in Germany, and formoterol in the UK, Germany and Italy.

Trinity-Chiesi Pharmaceuticals has particular expertise in patient-focused, innovative, respiratory medicines as evidenced in the development and launch of modified-release asthma drugs including Clenil® Modulite®, Atimos® Modulite® and Pulvinal®

Mr Tom Delahoyde, Managing Director, Trinity-Chiesi Pharmaceuticals commented. “The issue of CFC-free is an important one and our unstinting focus on developing innovative patient-focused respiratory medicines is good for our company, asthma patients and, of course, the environment”.

President of ISSSEEM, Dr, Charles T. Tart, says, “This year’s ISSSEEM conference will be of interest only to those who are going to die and want to know what they might do in the meantime to live a life of happiness and value.” The International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine (ISSSEEM) is holding their 20th annual conference, Evidence-based Spirituality for the 21st Century, June 25-29, 2010 at the Westin in Westminster, Colorado.

Lafayette, CO (PRWEB) April 23, 2010

The International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine (ISSSEEM) is holding their 20th annual ISSSEEM conference, Evidence-based Spirituality for the 21st Century, June 25-29, 2010 at the Westin in Westminster, Colorado.

This ISSSEEM conference theme brings together the fascinating, the technical, the studies, the applications and the search for meaning and value in human life. Thought and action will be stimulated around the development of evidence-based, or at least evidence enriched spirituality that is effective and compatible with zmodern science. Essential science is called for to refine and integrate spiritual practices with scientific knowledge for the advancement of human happiness, psychological and bodily health, spiritual growth and beneficial life styles for oneself and others. For example, how can prayer healing and psychic healing be taught and used more widely and effectively? What’s the best way to integrate these into the best of regular medicine? Do we survive bodily death in some form, as some mediumistic communications and reincarnation research suggest? How can we get better evidence for or against this idea, and if the evidence keeps piling up for it, what are implications for how we live our lives?

More information about the conference can be found at http://www. issseem. org/conference. cfm (http://www. issseem. org/conference. cfm).

Conference attendance offers participants an erudite and enlightened educational roster of workshops, speakers, fellowship and a broad range of interesting and compelling exhibits. The bookstore traditionally stocks all books penned by the presenters and offers the opportunities to meet the authors and buy signed copies.

A full day of cutting edge scientific research will include a plenary session with Edwin May. Addresses and workshops will be given by Larry Dossey, Carol Bowman, Shinzen Young, Beverly Rubik, Rollin McCraty, Cyndi Dale, Terry Patten, Gilah Yelin Hirsch, Kenneth Cohen and many more.

ISSSEEM President, Charles T. Tart, Ph. D., is internationally known for research on transpersonal psychology and parapsychology. His 14 books include the two classics, Altered States of Consciousness and Transpersonal Psychologies. His latest book, The End of Materialism: How Evidence of the Paranormal is Bringing Science and Spirit Together, explores the scientific foundations of transpersonal psychology to show it is possible to be both a rigorous scientist and a spiritual seeker.

Larry Dossey, M. D., is a former physician of internal medicine and former Chief of Staff of Medical City Dallas Hospital. Dossey has lectured at medical schools and hospitals throughout the United States and abroad. He is the author of eleven books dealing with consciousness, spirituality, and healing, including the New York Times bestseller Healing Words: The Power of Prayer and the Practice of Medicine, and most recently The Power of Premonitions: How Knowing the Future Can Shape Our Lives. Dr. Dossey is the executive editor of the peer-reviewed journal EXPLORE: The Journal of Science and Healing. "Guys Are Schmucks!" Has the Answers From Men Directly

"Guys Are Schmucks!" Has the Answers From Men Directly

A book on what men are all about; for once they are telling their side of the story, simple, easy to understand and it's all true!

NASHVILLE (PRWEB) January 31, 2006

First there was the smash TV show Sex and The City. That classic show’s run has ended, so make way for Dr. Laura d’Angelo’s brand-new “Guys Are Schmucks!”: A Woman’s Guide to Surviving. . . & Enjoying Men (Cold Tree Press, $12.95), a little giant of a book in which the men themselves divulge “the schmucky side of their lives,” and thus give women for the first time a primer on how to understand, cope with, and enjoy men – even if they’re schmucks.

Dr. d’Angelo studied at Barnard College and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine before serving on the faculty of both the Oregon Health Sciences University and Vanderbilt University. She wrote “Guys Are Schmucks!” with Bob Richardson, a fellow Nashvillian who is a former screenwriter at Paramount Studios and head of TV Production for the Leo Burnett Agency.

“Laura, all guys are schmucks. If you learn to accept that, you’ll do fine.” That was the surprising advice a male colleague gave Dr. Laura when she was recently divorced after 20 years of marriage and, at age 47, began dating again. The concept triggered her analytical side, so Dr. Laura interviewed 28 men ranging from ages 17 to 85 to see if it was true. As she reveals in this 76-page book, the guys she interviewed agreed that most men are indeed schmucks, which Webster’s defines as “a foolish or contemptible person.”

She begins with boys’ childhoods, in which she states that “breaking rules and pushing limits are `highs’ for a guy.” As teens, Dr. Laura writes that men learn that “the very behaviors that horrify women are the very same behaviors that define masculinity to a guy.” When they begin dating, men learn that “the fun was in the challenge, and the challenge was in the hunt,” and “to stay in control, men lie.” In marriage, one man told her to “love us for who we are, and do not perceive us for who you want us to be.” The book discusses infidelity, male bonding, and sex. “All men like sex,” she was told, “because it’s no effort.” A 54-year-old man said, “Pleasing the female is not part of a boy’s training.” The book concludes with three chapters of real-world advice for women.

Dr. Al Lewy said, “you will be constantly entertained by this collection of men’s hidden sexual and romantic encounters.” Writer Katie Sulkowski said, “ladies, this book is not for the faint of heart. It’s a pig-headed, honest picture of what makes men tick.”

“Guys Are Schmucks!" gives men a voice to be heard in their words, and it’s time that women listen! For more information about “Guys Are Schmucks!”go to guysareschmucks. com or Danker Pr. com for personal interviews contact Deborah C. Danker 615-320-7453

Baduku, Inc. Announces the Beta Launch of their Social Commerce Opinion Engine Baduku. com

Baduku, Inc. Announces the Beta Launch of their Social Commerce Opinion Engine Baduku. com

Baduku. com has plans to change how users read and write reviews by providing a real-time social stream of public opinions through a unique system for identifying social consensus.

Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) December 11, 2009

Baduku, Inc. announced today, it will be launching it’s open beta December 10th. Baduku. com (http://www. baduku. com) is an opinion engine utilizing real-time socially ranked micro-opinions (50 characters max opinions) to help people make quick informed decisions, and gauge public opinion in real-time. Baduku. com lists brief user generated opinions about any topic, and uses its unique suggestion system that allows it to rank opinions by overall consensus.

“For many people, traditional review websites require too much effort to use effectively. Today’s society wants more reliable opinions in a quick and concise format and that's exactly what Baduku. com achieves with its suggestive micro-opinion system. Also Baduku. com’s date ranging feature allows users to review opinions collected within a user defined segment of time. What a person think of something today may change drastically a year from now and Baduku. com is the best system for measuring that change.” said, Namanh Vu Hoang, Chief Executive Officer of Baduku. com.

During the Beta, Baduku. com (http://www. baduku. com) will allow users to register on the website and begin both reviewing and contributing opinions on topics. Baduku. com will continue implementing enhancements during this phase which includes features such as Facebook Connect, affiliate network services, sharable user-defined topic list and other mobile applications.

Baduku. com (http://www. baduku. com) was recently demoed at TechCrunch (http://www. techcrunch. com)’s Real-Time CrunchUp at San Francisco’s InterContinental Hotel on November 20th, 2009 by co-founders Namanh Vu Hoang and Patrick Chang, where it was well received by the tech and social media community. According to Chief Technology Officer of Baduku. com, Patrick Chang, “Unlike other review sites that are exclusively product focused or limited to places and activities, Baduku. com’s open topics format provides a forum of discussion for topics such as health, law, politics and popular culture, which would have otherwise been completely neglected by traditional review websites.”

Baduku. com founders, Namanh Vu Hoang and Patrick Chang are long time friends and both University of California, Irvine alumni. Namanh Vu Hoang was previously the Creative Strategist for Orange County think tank, Crisp Brand Agency. Patrick Chang is co-founder of Orange County based web development firm Omatik. net.

Millions of Americans Suffering from 'Successphobia'

Millions of Americans Suffering from 'Successphobia'

Everyone wants success. We all love the idea of making a lot of money, having respect, and being the center of attention. Or so we say. In fact, while we talk about the pleasures of success, when it comes to the crunch, millions of Americans get cold feet and start looking for excuses to avoid being in the spotlight and keep their safe anonymity instead of facing the challenges of having all eyes on them.

Ocean Shores, WA (PRWEB) December 19, 2005

Everyone wants success. We all love the idea of making a lot of money, having respect, and being the center of attention. Or so we say. In fact, while we talk about the pleasures of success, when it comes to the crunch, millions of Americans get cold feet and start looking for excuses to avoid being in the spotlight and keep their safe anonymity instead of facing the challenges of having all eyes on them.

"I meet lots of people who tell me they want to be successful, and they get all excited about what they will do with the money they want to make," says Andrea Rains Waggener, the Up Beat Life Advisor, whose website, http://www. waggener-books. com (http://www. waggener-books. com) provides books, articles, and other resources for living an up beat and successful life. "But I also see huge numbers of these people fail to take action in their lives not because they can't do what they need to to be successful but because they're just scared to step up--even though they know they'll love it when they finally reach their goal. They suffer from what I call 'successphobia,' a fear of having the financial, personal, and professional success they want."

The five signs of "successphobia" are:

1. Making lists of to dos that never getting around to doing them.

2. Continually setting goals but never achieving them.

3. Talking about what's wanted instead of taking action to get it.

4. Owning bookshelves full of advice on how to make money but having a paltry bank balance.

5. Possessing great talent but never getting around to using it.

Successphobia isn't the same as procrastination. It's having the intention to do something now but allowing the fear of responsibility to prevent someone who wants success from doing what they need to do to get it.

"Everyone gets butterflies in their belly when they think about suddenly being the one that everyone is focused on," says Andrea. "For those who let those butterflies stop them from taking action to get what they want, I can show them how to develop some inner qualities that will help them put those fears behind them and go for their dreams."

Andrea's book, Healthy, Wealthy & Wise--52 Life-changing Lessons for the 21st Century, provides a detailed discussion of 52 inner qualities, how those qualities can improve life, and how to develop them. A list of the qualities, as well as an excerpt from the book can be seen at Andrea's website, http://www. waggener-books. com (http://www. waggener-books. com).

Contact Andrea Rains Waggener at (360) 581-4085 for more insights into this topic. Andrea has been featured in Fitness, Shape, and Diane magazines. She’s been a guest on Pacific Northwest TV’s Northwest Afternoon and Being In Seattle, as well as on several radio talk shows. The ecomii™ (pronounced ee-KOH-me) website, www. ecomii. com, introduces the first comprehensive resource designed to demystify green living and help consumers make informed socially-conscious lifestyle choices.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) September 24, 2008

"Currently, over 38 million conscious consumers are willing to alter their behavior to make a positive impact on their personal health and the well-being of our planet. However, they often encounter a disparate amount of unreliable or misleading information which creates more questions than answers," said Todd O'Donald, ecomii co-founder and managing director. "It is with this in mind that we created ecomii as the single definitive destination for objective and credible information on conscious consumerism and green living. ecomii is a trusted resource to help consumers establish a more socially-minded environmentally-conscious lifestyle. No other site matches ecomii's level of accuracy, objectivity and transparency."

Recognizing that consumers need the facts in order to act, ecomii partnered with many of the most authoritative organizations and respected experts to offer practical, how-to guidance for pursuing a socially-conscious lifestyle. These partners include: John Wiley & Sons, Inc., New Society Publishers, and the Union of Concerned Scientists, among others.

ecomii will debut with lifestyle centers dedicated to Parenting (www. ecomii. com/parenting (http://www. ecomii. com/parenting)) and Smart Food (www. ecomii. com/food (http://www. ecomii. com/food)). These go-to centers will help consumers make smart choices from diapers to organic vegetables. ecomii lifestyle centers will be anchored by ecomii's Guides and Tips.

ecomii Guides (www. ecomii. com/guides (http://www. ecomii. com/guides)) provide in-depth, easy-to-digest how-to information on topics ranging from pregnancy and parenting to green building methods, landscaping and everything in between.

ecomii Tips (www. ecomii. com/tips (http://www. ecomii. com/tips)) feature an easy-to-follow rating system that demonstrates the environmental benefit, health benefit, financial impact and complexity to visitors, addressing differing motivations and concerns about the cost or degree of difficulty in 'going green.'

One of the most exciting areas will be ecomii Action (www. ecomii. com/action (http://www. ecomii. com/action)), which fosters a socially-minded community around simple actions for pursuing a more socially-conscious lifestyle. "By joining ecomii Action, visitors will become part of a collective voice calling for a better way for our families, our country and our planet," added O'Donald.

"From the first time recycler to the eco-enthusiast, ecomii aims to inform, influence and inspire people to take action for our planet's future and to advance the idea that we can all make a difference – one action at a time," said Colton Dirksen, ecomii co-founder and environmental director. "ecomii is designed for differing motivations, whether you are propelled by global warming, the health of your family or high gas and food prices; we believe you deserve the straight story."

"ecomii will help visitors take simple steps to reduce their impact on the planet and enlist their friends and family in the pursuit of a better way," Dirksen concluded.

Corporations Eyeing Costa Rica Rentals for Meetings and Incentives

Corporations Eyeing Costa Rica Rentals for Meetings and Incentives

Financial pressures and industry trends boost exposure for boutique meeting venues.

San Jose, Costa Rica (PRWEB) August 8, 2009

Costa Rica has long been a popular destination for incentive travel, company events and business trips for both U. S. and Latin America-based corporations. Beach resort destinations like the Paradisus Playa Conchal and San Jose meeting locations such as the Real InterContinental and Ramada Plaza Herradura are well accustomed to handling these large corporate groups.

It is no secret that these hotels and other chains worldwide have been hit hard by streamlined corporate budgets. Under pressure to cut costs, companies are allocating less money for international travel, conventions and incentive trips. A new trend is emerging to adjust to these economic pressures. Instead of skimping on quality, money-conscious corporations are limiting their guest lists, which once reached upwards of 300, to more elite incentive-based trips for 30 or less.

What the Costa Rica lacks in terms of large-scale resorts and convention centers, it makes up for with an abundant supply of boutique hotels and luxury rentals. These properties are positioned to benefit from this trend by offering small meeting venues with amenities like audiovisual equipment, event planning and personalized service. Guests still include executives and top employees and clients; they just have to work harder to earn the invitation.

Such incentive groups seek a combination of business facilities, convenience and recreational activities. Golf, eco-tourism, shopping, and cultural or adventure tours are the top requested activities, all of which are plentiful in Costa Rica. With a tourism industry eager to find new sources of revenue, many small hotels and vacation rental operators in Costa Rica are already onboard to cater to the boutique business venue trend.

Case Studies

A Texas-based medical company recently hosted a 5-day reunion with 10 employees along Costa Rica's north Pacific Coast at Villa Buena Onda (www. mycostaricavilla. com), a private, all-inclusive, 7-bedroom ocean view property. They chose the property primarily due to its convenient location 20 minutes from the Liberia international airport, its size, scalable rates and full-time staff.

The group hosted daily meetings at the villa's second story, open air lounge with the Pacific Ocean as their backdrop. Despite the unique location, they still had access to meeting necessities such as wireless Internet, whiteboards and a projector. The privacy of the property allowed them to host their discussions in an informal atmosphere, promoting the flow of ideas. All the while, the full-time staff catered their all inclusive meals, drinks and snacks, permitting the group to focus completely on their meetings.

Villa Buena Onda Concierge, Dayana Villalobos, said that the Texas group was the third to host business meetings at the villa, while two other corporations hosted incentive trips. "The difference between the two is a very fine line" Villalobos said. "Both incentive groups and the companies that hosted meetings treated their time at the villa like a working vacation, enjoying private excursions and special activities for the employees in-between informal meetings."

For larger groups looking for a private business trip at a great deal, residential clubs like the Reserva Conchal in Guanacaste (www. vacationscostarica. com/hotels/Reserva_Conchal. htm (http://www. vacationscostarica. com/hotels/Reserva_Conchal. htm )) and the Los Sueños Marriott in Playa Herradura both offer privately owned rental condos. These have access to restaurants, golf courses and other 5-star club facilities. At Reserva Conchal, guests can reserve conference facilities seating up to 80 people, while still maintaining a boutique and personalized feel by renting separate condos in the same building or complex.

Locally-based multinationals are credited for starting the trend by utilizing the country's tourism infrastructure to their advantage, rather than sending top employees to Mexico or all-inclusive destinations that specialize in catering to groups of 200 or more. Airfare prices and health risks compelled many of these companies to turn their sights homeward. As a result, the local rental industry learned to embrace this niche market, and companies in major U. S. cities with direct flights to Costa Rica like Dallas, New York and Miami soon followed suit.

Unique New Parkinson's Resource, Life With A Battery-Operated Brain, Offers Step-by-Step Patient Guide to Deep Brain Stimulation

Unique New Parkinson's Resource, Life With A Battery-Operated Brain, Offers Step-by-Step Patient Guide to Deep Brain Stimulation

Beyond answering the "whys" that arise in considering Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery, Hunt Christensen offers her unique perspective in this comprehensive book. LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN is designed to be a highly readable guide for people with Parkinson's disease (PD), exploring the benefits of this particular surgery on many motor symptoms of the disease.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) April 15, 2009

What would prompt someone to say "Let's stick wires into someone's brain, run voltage through it, and see what happens!"? So asks activist and author Jackie Hunt Christensen in her important new book, LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN: A Patient's Guide to Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery for Parkinson's Disease (Langdon Street Press; April 2009; ISBN 978-1-934938-26-3; $16.95).

Beyond answering the "whys" that arise in considering Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery, Hunt Christensen offers her unique perspective in this comprehensive book. LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN (www. lifewithbobbook. com) is designed to be a highly readable guide for people with Parkinson's disease (PD), exploring the benefits of this particular surgery on many motor symptoms of the disease. "Deep Brain Stimulation is a process, not an event," explains Hunt Christensen.

The author has firsthand knowledge of the procedure more commonly referred to as "DBS" and lived with Parkinson's disease for more than seven years before electing to be evaluated for DBS surgery. Ultimately, she was deemed a good candidate for the surgery, and DBS seemed like her only logical option--a choice that has been validated post-surgery, as Christensen now enjoys life with most of her motor symptoms well controlled. Parkinson's disease, the author is quick to point out, does not end, but DBS is meant to be a long-term treatment.

Now Jackie Hunt Christensen offers readers a resource that was previously unavailable: a step-by-step look at her own journey, as well as information on a typical evaluation process, medical statistics, questions to ask neurosurgeons, opinions from other DBS patients, the programming process for DBS, and much more.

"I wrote this book as way of giving back to the community," Hunt Christensen said. "DBS has given me back so much of my life! I want to share what I've learned from my own experience and others' to help inform the decisions being made every day by others looking for those same results."

LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN is a must-read for those who are considering Deep Brain Stimulation--and for those who love them. Health professionals can also benefit from reading the book, as certain diagnostic tools and therapies may not be safe for use on DBS patients or require specific precautions.

Being released by Langdon Street Press today, LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN will be available in bookstores and online at Life With a Battery-Operated Brain (http://www. lifewithbobbook. com) or Amazon. com.

Jackie Hunt Christensen is also the author of The First Year: Parkinson's Disease, An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed and has published numerous articles and editorials regarding both Parkinson's and environmental issues. In 2006, she won the Milly Kondracke Award for Outstanding Advocacy from the Parkinson's Action Network in Washington, DC.

Jackie, her husband, and two sons ages 17 and 12, reside in Minneapolis.

"What Part of 'Illegal' Do You Not Understand?" to be Title of Immigration Program When Valley Libertarian Group Meets on July 29

"What Part of 'Illegal' Do You Not Understand?" to be Title of Immigration Program When Valley Libertarian Group Meets on July 29

Illegal Immigration panel discussion will feature Carlos Rodriguez, immigration lawyer and Libertarian Party candidate for U. S. Congress, when the Valley Forge supper club meets on Thursday July 29, 2010, in the Nieuport Banquet Room of the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant in Van Nuys, California.

Van Nuys, CA (PRWEB) July 24, 2010

On Thursday July 29, 2010, the Valley Forge Supper Club will feature as its main agenda item a program on the immigration issue, deliberately and provocatively entitled "What Part of 'Illegal' Do You Not Understand?" The event will be held in the Nieuport Room at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant located at 16320 Raymer St. in Van Nuys with reception beginning at 6:00 pm.

Already confirmed to take part in the evening's presentation are Los Angeles libertarians Ted Brown, Dan Fernandes, and Carlos Rodriguez. Brown has run for office on several occasions and has for many years served to recruit candidates to represent the Libertarian Party on the ballot in California. Fernandes ran in a contested primary for the Assembly District 59 seat. Rodriguez, himself having emigrated from Cuba, by way of New York, works as an immigration lawyer and is a candidate in the U. S. Congressional District 28 race. "All candidates are invited to talk for as long as they care to or dare to," says meeting organizer, Edward Bowers, of the Libertarian Party of the San Fernando Valley (LPSFV). "We want more of a panel discussion than a debate or a one-man show. We have a number of good candidates this year and immigration may not be one of their top issues of focus, but, as they say, if there are ten libertarians in a room, you will find a dozen differences of opinion on one subject, so if anyone has a perspective (fresh or otherwise) on the issue that they are not afraid to share, their participation is encouraged." Although not billed as a debate, "things could get lively," suggested Bowers, as all who attend the banquet will be able to participate once the evening enters Q & A. Also on the agenda there should be a debriefing of Freedom Fest from those in the group who attended the pro-freedom and free-market convention in Las Vegas earlier in the month.

Among the good candidates to which Bowers refers, there are many who hail from the San Fernando Valley region. Those running very active campaigns this season include statewide candidates Rick Bronstein (Insurance Commissioner), Pamela Brown (Lt. Governor) as well as Adrian Galysh, a Senate District 20 candidate, and Erich Miller, who will challenge incumbent Henry Waxman in the 30th Congressional District. Miller's campaign signs declare, "I'm putting Miller in Congress."

The Valley Forge was instituted by Edward Bowers, regional representative of the LPSFV, and currently the Party is the club's only sponsor, although Bowers is looking for co-sponsors as he envisions it as being less of an official Party product, and more of a philosophical libertarian supper club in the grand tradition of Southern California libertarian supper clubs of the past and present. Currently there is the Karl Hess Club which meets on 3rd Mondays in Culver City and they have added another meeting, which convenes just across the Orange County border, called the Konkin-Rothbard Limited because it only is slated to meet in month's where there is a 5th Monday. Similarly the Valley Forge is meant to be an irregular event, meeting only on the 5th Thursday of the month (when there is a 5th Thursday in the month). "It might be too much to ask the libertarian community to support another monthly supper club in L. A.," Bowers explained, "but I was determined to bring more intellectual fare north of Mulholland Drive." Not having to schedule a speaker every month gives Bowers more time to find quality programs. The club's inaugural meeting had a presentation on gun control by Brian Doherty of the Reason Foundation. "If you want folks to come out, Reason is always a good bet," Bowers quipped. "Oddly enough," he noted, "people running for office have not traditionally been a big draw." Yet in election year 2010, candidates have been featured on the agenda. In April, the club had a good turnout for Rick Bronstein, who spoke on healthcare. "When I scheduled him," Bowers reported, "the bill--which I call Corporate WelCare--was still in the House, but by the time Rick spoke, the cheers of 'Yes, we can' had already faded and the big thing in the news was Arizona. I said then that if we could have predicted what the hot current events topic would be, we probably should have scheduled a talk on illegal immigration. Well, here we are three months later, and maybe the oil leak will stay capped long enough that our timing will be right as the debate seems to be heating up again, give or take a few NAACP Tea Party resolutions." Bowers describes himself as "open-minded on open borders. I've heard the Welfare State caveat, and I expect to hear it again Thursday night, but I want more angles than that. I've asked for fearless libertarian perspectives and that is what I'm hoping for." That and a big crowd.

Featuring a unique décor and atmosphere, The 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant is situated at the northeast corner of the Van Nuys airport at 16320 Raymer St. The cross street is Woodley, which in turn intersects Roscoe Blvd, which is freeway close (405 Exit #68). Gathering begins as early as 6:00 PM, and early arrivals are encouraged (as are RSVP's). Dinner should start around 7:00 PM with the program beginning about 7:45 PM. This is a banquet-style event and so there is a set price of $28.00 for the entire dinner which will include the typical choices of meat, chicken, fish, or a vegetarian pasta dish. Members of the press may attend at a reduced cost of $25.00. RSVP to ebowers(at)mac(dot)com.
