Just In Time for National Emergency Medical Services Week iPhone Application Assists First Responders and Emergency Personnel

Emergency Room Physician confirms new iPhone application will be an important tool

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 22, 2009

National Emergency Medical Services Week is May 17-23rd, a fitting time to introduce an iPhone application that can assist emergency personnel. In an emergency, first responders know to look for the "in case of emergency" contact (ICE) on a cell phone. MyMedID takes that one-step further by allowing first responders and emergency rooms to access critical medical information. Available as an iPhone application download from the Apple iPhone "app store", the icon appears on the iPhone and is available for first responders and emergency personnel.

MyMedID is easy to use for even the novice iPhone owner. Input illnesses, medications, allergies, ICE, preferred hospital, physician's phone numbers, and blood type. It can help to eliminate confusion and drug interactions during medical emergencies. In a non-emergency MyMedID makes it easier to access all pertinent information while at doctor's office or pharmacy.

"I came up with the idea while I was sitting at the table with my three young children," Said Heidi Heller Niehart. "I have a chronic illness and it's always in the back of my mind if something should happen. My children know how to call 911 but there is no way they would know what medications I was taking, how much or what drug or other allergies I have. I hope that I never need to access this information but it's worth the price of a cup of coffee for me to have peace of mind."

The Journal of the American Medical Association states that the number of deaths in U. S. hospitals that are reportedly due to medical errors is disturbingly high. A recent Institute of Medicine report quoted rates estimating that medical errors kill between 44,000 and 98,000 people a year in U. S. hospitals. An average of 195,000 people in the U. S. died due to potentially preventable, in-hospital medical errors according to HealthGrades. The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research reports that there are over 2-million serious adverse drug interactions yearly and over 100,000 deaths. Drug interactions are the 4th leading cause of death.

"My Med ID will be a very important tool for first responders and emergency department personnel", said Paulo Berger, MD, a San Diego based Emergency Physician. "First responders will have access to the patient's important medical information in a clear and organized format."

All appropriate agencies are aware of the universal symbol used by MyMedID and know to check cell phones for pertinent information. This includes Highway Patrol Agencies, Police Departments, Fire Departments, Hospital Emergency Rooms and Trauma Centers.

MyMedID was designed by Imadjine and can be downloaded at the Apple iPhone app store at http://itunes. apple. com/WebObjects/MZStore. woa/wa/viewSoftware? id=316190717&mt=8 (http://itunes. apple. com/WebObjects/MZStore. woa/wa/viewSoftware? id=316190717&mt=8) for $.99. You can also visit our website at www. mymedidapp. com for more information on how to use the application and for a direct link to the app store. March is National Peanut Month and National Nutrition Month® Make Healthier, Low-Carb Peanut Desserts with Stevia

March is National Peanut Month and National Nutrition Month® Make Healthier, Low-Carb Peanut Desserts with Stevia

Lisa Jobs, author of the book Sensational Stevia Desserts says that one of the best ways to make peanut butter and other dessert recipes more nutritious is to use stevia and other healthier ingredients.

Valley Forge, PA (PRWEB) March 6, 2006

Since March is both National Peanut Month and National Nutrition Month, it’s an ideal time to try some healthier peanut desserts. One way to make these and other desserts healthier is to use stevia, an all-natural alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners. Using stevia reduces sugar and carbohydrate intake and, in most cases, calories—without sacrificing flavor.

Since stevia has no calories, carbohydrates or fat, and doesn’t affect glucose levels, virtually anyone can use it, including diabetics, dieters, hypoglycemics and health conscious consumers who want to or need to reduce their sugar/carb intake for health or personal reasons.

Peanut butter is a good source of Protein, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Niacin, Folate and Vitamin E. Plus, it is naturally low in saturated fat, naturally cholesterol-free and has antioxidant properties. By using all-natural peanut butter instead of most popular brands, you’ll avoid extra sugar and salt, fillers like partially hydrogenated vegetable oils and other undesirable ingredients common in the popular varieties.

About Lisa Jobs:

Lisa Jobs, B. A., M. J., operated her own stevia business, @Stevia LLC (purveyors of fine stevia products and books),

for 10 years. During her tenure, she developed a unique stevia packet blend that was manufactured, produced and distributed under her company name. At the same time, she created hundreds of stevia dessert recipes, the best of which are collected in Sensational Stevia Desserts (SSD). Currently she is working on a second cookbook.

Avian Flu? – Get The Truth: Questions To Ask, Answers To Know

Avian Flu? – Get The Truth: Questions To Ask, Answers To Know

A clean body, a strong immune system and a balanced pH level means a healthy body, which will prevent, resist and eliminate disease. Prevention is the best preparation for the Bird Flu says Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph. D, ND, DACBN after announcing the release of a new e-book, Surviving Flu Pandemics: Plan – Prepare - Prevent that he and Dr. Loretta Lanphier, ND, CN, HHP have co-authored.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 2, 2005

The urgency and reality of a flu pandemic has certainly been explained to us through media, government and our own medical establishment. Is the Avian Flu threat a “real” threat? No one really knows. Many say that it is just hype and maybe so. But it’s always wise to have a plan and to be prepared, no matter what. And it may not be very wise to take a gamble with health by throwing caution to the wind. We have put together SURVIVING FLU PANDEMICS: PLAN - PREPARE - PREVENT hoping to instill calm and prevent paranoia and panic. Education is empowering and is always the first step toward planning and preparedness. Living in fear does not allow a person to make good decisions. Our desire is to provide natural solutions (ones that will not harm) that can be implemented right now.

According to Dr. Edward Group, “The band-aid approach to treating the flu will not work. Injecting the body with a toxic contaminated vaccine or giving someone an anti-viral drug such as Tamiflu, will only weaken the immune system and we will see the same results as we did during the Spanish Flu—The people who received the vaccinations were the ones who died and the people who refused the vaccinations lived.”

”I have been confused as to what to believe about Avian Flu. “Surviving Flu Pandemics” has answered all my questions and has provided me the information that I need to actually survive should things get bad. Thanks for writing such a timely e-book!.” – Marilyn from Wichita, KS

“People think I am crazy to be concerned about Bird Flu. Surviving Flu Pandemics is just what I have been looking for—no hype or instilling of fear, but practical solutions on how to survive any pandemic from a natural perspective. I now know how to get my family healthy and help them to stay healthy.”

– Michael from Pittsburg, PA

”Just finished reading through your e-book. All I can say is WOW! I would have never thought about all the things to include in preparation for a pandemic. Your insights are refreshing and I appreciate the ‘calm-manner’ in which the e-book is written. The Emergency Fast Action Guide in and of itself is certainly worth the price of the e-book. I am ordering ViraZap and Flu-Fighter today.”

Liz from Phoenix, AZ

The body has self-healing mechanisms, yes, even against a virus like the Avian Flu. In order for these self-healing mechanisms to work at their proper capacity, the body must be healthy and the immune system functioning the way it is designed to function. Currently our concern is not so much with the actual Avian Flu virus but the condition of most people’s body. Most are toxic, acidic, dehydrated, oxygen-deficient, poor lymphatic system drainage and clogged with many years of built-up, old fecal matter. Add to this the fact that between 40-50% of all Americans are taking at least one or more prescription medication and we have a volatile situation that keeps the immune system from functioning at a healthy rate, thus sabotaging the body's self-healing mechanisms.

Groundbreaking Universal Health Care Conference on the Uninsured Explores Using Technology in Child Health Plus and Medicaid Enrollment: "Building Blocks for Universal Health Care in New York," a May 8, 2008 conference on using technology to help enroll the uninsured, is sponsored by the Hudson Center for Health Equity & Quality (Hcheq)

The first step in the long journey toward universal health care in New York is maximizing enrollment of eligible uninsured New Yorkers in Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and Family Health Plus. Yet, the mechanics of enrolling the uninsured frequently gets in the way. The potential for using technology to improve the process is the focus of "Building Blocks for Universal Health Care in New York: Bridging Coverage Gaps with Information Technology," a conference that will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2008, 10 a. m. to 4 p. m., at the New Yorker Hotel in New York City. The day-long event, sponsored by the Hudson Center for Health Equity & Quality (Hcheq), is the first conference of its kind to bring together policy and health care technology experts to discuss the role technology should play in increasing access to Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and Family Health Plus for all eligible uninsured individuals.

TARRYTOWN, N. Y. (PRWEB) March 27, 2008

 The conference focuses on New York State, where roughly 900,000 people -- 40 percent of the state's 2.2 million uninsured -- are eligible but not enrolled in public health insurance provided by Medicaid, Family Health Plus or Child Health Plus (CHPlus) programs.

"We need enlightened health care policy to solve the problem of the uninsured and the underinsured, but also the administrative infrastructure and technology in place to support it," explains Georganne Chapin, President and CEO of Hcheq. "Information technology initiatives are already at work in health care programs in New York and other states and have huge potential to increase coverage and access. This conference will bring together leaders from New York's health care community to start a productive and, hopefully, ongoing discussion about how to leverage information technology in the enrollment and eligibility process for New York's Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and Family Health Plus insurance programs."

The conference will feature panels of experts in health care, IT, and public policy. The keynote speaker will be Sam Karp, Vice President of Programs, California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF), who is a nationally recognized leader in developing IT solutions to overcome barriers to public insurance enrollment. A former director of CHCF's Health Information Technology program and Chief Information Officer, Mr. Karp led the development of the first Web-based application in the United States to enroll uninsured low-income children in public health insurance programs.

Other conference participants include Deborah Bachrach, Deputy Commissioner, Office of Health Insurance Programs, and New York State Medicaid Director, NYS Department of Health; Michael Birnbaum, Directory of Policy, Medicaid Institute, United Hospital Fund; Patricia Boozang; Tangerine M. Brigham, Deputy Director of Health, Director of Healthy San Francisco, San Francisco Department of Public Health; Anne Marie Costello, Director, Bureau of NYC Compliance and Customer Service, NYS Department of Health; Andrea Dodge, Chief Administrative Officer, Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Commonwealth of Massachusetts; Mary Harper, Executive Deputy Commissioner, New York City Human Resource Medical Insurance and Community Service Administration; Linda Hacker, Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Managed Care and Family Health Plus, New York City Human Resources Administration; David Hansell, Commissioner, NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance; George L. Hoover, Deputy Commissioner, Pennsylvania CHIP and adultBasic Programs, and Joshua Lipsman, Commissioner of Health, Westchester County Department of Health.

Specific topics participants will explore include:

-- The current landscape of IT innovation in New York's Medicaid/Child Health Plus enrollment and eligibility process;

-- Opportunities for making enrollment of the uninsured more accessible, efficient and accurate through IT innovation;

-- Barriers to implementing IT innovation and potential policy solutions for removing or reducing those barriers;

-- Experiences of states and localities currently using electronic application and enrollment technology in their public health insurance or universal health care programs.

"Building Blocks for Universal Health Care in New York" will be held on Thursday, May 8th from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. at The New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Avenue, New York City. The conference fee, including lunch, is $175. For more information and to register, call (914) 372-2100 or visit www. hcheq. org.
