Brulant Growth Spurs New Headquarters, New Chief Operating Officer

Brulant, Inc., NE OhioÂ’s largest information technology (IT) and business solutions consulting firm for Fortune 1000 and middle-market companies, recently relocated to a new headquarters in Beachwood, and announced that Timothy J. Sikon, most recently Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director for Max Ventures, has joined the firm as Chief Operating Officer.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (PRWEB) August 11, 2005

Brulant, Inc., NE OhioÂ’s largest information technology (IT) and business solutions consulting firm for Fortune 1000 and middle-market companies, recently relocated to a new headquarters in Beachwood, and announced that Timothy J. Sikon, most recently Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director for Max Ventures, has joined the firm as Chief Operating Officer.

Brulant was previously located in Garfield Heights, but the recent rapid growth of the past two years presented the need for a larger location. The current space in Beachwood is nearly double the size at 18,000 sf, and contains amenities like a full industrial kitchen, touch screen directories in the lobby, and architectural details like exposed ceilings and rounded walls.

“We had grown out of our old space, plain and simple,” said Len Pagon, CEO of Brulant. “We needed a space that could not only accommodate our growth, but would reflect the kind of high energy, creative firm that we are.” In addition, Mr. Pagon notes, “And on the internal side, to that growth, we saw the need for a strong Chief Operating Officer, to manage the operations of a firm that is changing by the day.”

In this newly created COO role, Mr. Sikon will manage the day-to-day operations of the firm, as well as manage future growth. In 2004, BrulantÂ’s revenue increased by 40%, and Sikon is looking to manage another 45% growth in 2005. Mr. Sikon will lead the internal operations of the firm, which to date has over 120 employees, and will be an integral part of the Human Resources, Finance and Marketing departments.

“I couldn’t be happier to be adding the kind of horsepower Tim brings to the firm,” said Len Pagon, President and CEO of Brulant. “His energy, sharp financial mind and hawkish attention to the bottom line will add another degree of excellence to Brulant operations as we continue to manage such staggering growth.”

Mr. Sikon brings over 25 years experience as a senior financial manager working closely with entrepreneurs in high growth middle market and Fortune 500 companies. His expertise includes operations, mergers & acquisitions, business integration and restructurings. As Chief Financial Officer for Big Game Capital, Mr. Sikon completed multiple acquisitions employing over $12 million of equity. He has been a financial advisor to Brulant since 2003, providing ongoing financial management and operations services, as well assistance with strategic planning.

Mr. Sikon added, “The growth potential at Brulant is enormous. We have secured a hold as the top local technology consulting firm, and continue to grow as we add additional high-profile, strategic clients. I look forward to building an infrastructure and developing strategic opportunities that will support our ambition to become a nationally recognized $100 million firm by 2010.”

"Our pets have become cherished members of the family," says Ricki Widlak, editor of Super Cool Pets (http://www. supercoolpets. com) "People form strong bonds with their pets. Blogpire Productions started SuperCoolPets. com to help other pet owners find the pet products (http://www. supercoolpets. com/archives/cat_play. php) they really need, to help them stay away from the products that they don't, and to point out cool stuff along the way. "When I brought home my Golden Retriever puppies three years ago, I was surprised at how the pet industry had grown since I had last owned dogs and cats in the 90's" says Ricki Widlak, editor of SuperCoolPets. com. "There were so many products I wish I had known about sooner, which would have greatly helped us as we integrated our new puppies into our family. With Super Cool Pets, I would like to share all my new findings about pet products and merchandise with others all in one place."

Mastic Spa to Hold Grand Opening Event for its U. S. Flagship Store in SoHo, New York City

Mastic Spa to Hold Grand Opening Event for its U. S. Flagship Store in SoHo, New York City

Mastic Spa brings its mastic-based beauty, body, and skin care products to North American market from Chios, Greece. Mastic is the legendary resin-bearing tree, revered since Antiquity, which grows on the Greek island of Chios, and nowhere else in the World.

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 2, 2005

Mastic Spa, home of all-natural beauty secrets of the Aegean, is hosting an opening event for its flagship store at 438 West Broadway, near the corner of Prince Street, on Saturday, October 1st from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Simultaneously, hors dÂ’oeuvres, drinks, and live Greek music will be served-up at Besito from 6:30 to 8:30, which is located a few blocks away at 357 West Broadway, near the corner of Broom (212 966-2030). We welcome members of the media to join us!

In 1877, the first of three generations of pharmacists in Chios, Greece began to study the remarkable anti-bacterial and regenerative properties of the mastic nectar. Now, Mastic Spa is offering over 200 mastic-based beauty products for the first time in the United States.

The Sodis brothers and their families started Mastic Spa several years ago in the 128 year old family pharmacy. There are now 20 Mastic Spa stores throughout Greece, selling beauty products based on the research and experimental applications of mastic by their father, Ioannis Sodis. The company formulates, packages and distributes its products from a state of the art manufacturing facility in Chios. Mastic Spa is a one-of-a-kind company – a product of both, tradition, and the latest research. Mastic Spa combines simplicity with functionality. Mastic Spa is a special place with special products, created by the fruits of nature and products produced with special care and dedication. You enter and find yourself in a friendly, warm and beautiful environment. You feel wonderful. All of our products are a special delight.

When you visit Mastic Spa, only then will you understand and discover its special appeal. Mastic Spa and our line of products are not only natural cosmetics made with mastic, a unique, natural ingredient, but it is also an ideal – a modern ideal of beauty and a special place dedicated to the unique qualities of mastic.

Benefits

Mastic has been scientifically proven to have strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. In combination with other natural ingredients, mastic oil provides superior cleansing, hydrates skin and hair, slows the effects of aging on the face, aids in the healing of burns and scars, and protects the teeth and gums.

History

The references to mastic appeared in the First Century pharmacological treatise De Materia Medica by the Greek physician and botanist Dioscorides.

In 1474, Christopher Columbus visited the Island. He sent a letter to the King and Queen of Spain, promising to bring back “spices and MASTIC” (his emphasis), which he referred to as “white gold.”

British historian Thomas FullerÂ’s Pharmacopoeia Extemporanea, published in 1710, lists many ancient formulas that include mastica.

Mastic has been used for hundreds of years as a food additive for flavoring in Greece and the Middle East, and as an effective stomach and ulcer remedy when chewed as gum. It is believed the ancient Egyptians were first to discover masticÂ’s benefits for the skin.

Leading Learning Strategies Website -- Smart-kit. com -- Offers Study Tips to Help Improve Test Scores for Students Preparing for Finals

Leading Learning Strategies Website -- Smart-kit. com -- Offers Study Tips to Help Improve Test Scores for Students Preparing for Finals

Dedicated to brain and memory improvement, Smartkit and its Student Guidebook, recommend students stay away from all-nighters and deploy more effective study techniques.

Boynton Beach, FL (PRWEB) December 7, 2006

www. smart-kit. com -- Smartkit, led by board certified neurologist Dr. R. L. Kaplan, is offering study tips to help students studying for finals improve scores with less study time and without painful all-nighters.

Kaplan explains that brain function significantly decreases after an all-nighter, especially memory systems and frontal lobe regions.

Frontal lobe regions are especially important because this region plays a crucial role in the following:

-Oral Presentations

-Essay Tests on literature, history, social sciences and art

-Exams in math, physics, chemistry or economics where students are asked not only to recall information, but to apply it to new situations and problems

According to the research journal Occupational Environmental Medicine, "Moderate sleep deprivation produces impairment in cognitive and motor performance equivalent to that of legally prescribed levels of alcohol intoxication."

Smartkit developed its Student Guidebook to help improve memory and brain functions by implementing healthy techniques into daily life.

Students can benefit from advice offered within the guidebook including how to improve test scores and decrease study time by:

-Avoiding Information Decay - It is important to review newly-learned material hours after first exposure, not weeks later. 40-70% of what you learn today will be forgotten by tomorrow without review.

-Eating Brain Food - Brain structure and function is markedly affected by what you eat. Feed your brain vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals and stimulate your brain instead of merely sustaining it.

-Take a Nap - As the day wears on, mental fatigue sets in. Stop and recharge your batteries. A nap as short as 10 minutes has been shown to improve alertness and cognitive performance.

-Increase the neurochemicals of concentration - Before you sit down to study, a short burst of aerobic exercise increases brain catecholamine levels which in turn boost ability to concentrate and focus. These are the same brain chemicals that Ritalin-like stimulants work on.

"High test scores can be achieved with less study time, without all-nighters and without large doses of caffeine, all of which impact brain functioning," said Dr. R. L. Kaplan. "The Smartkit - Student Guidebook was created to help students improve memory and test scores by incorporating easy and healthy habits into daily routines."

NuSil Technology, a leading formulator and manufacturer of silicone compounds for healthcare, aerospace, electronics and photonics, recently donated silicone materials to the Delancey Street Foundation, one of the world’s most successful rehabilitation programs for criminal offenders.

The Delancey Street Foundation, formed in San Francisco during the 1970s as a criminal rehabilitation and vocational training center, has become one of the best rehabilitation centers in the world. Having expanded to four other sister projects ¾ located in New York, New Mexico, North Carolina and Los Angeles ¾ the Delancey Street Foundation continues to turn hardened criminals into upstanding citizens.

NuSil Technology donated silicone adhesives, valued at more than $7,000, to the Delancey Street Foundation. Delancey Street participants will use this silicone adhesive in their various residential construction projects.

“The Delancey Street Foundation is a wonderful organization with a great purpose,” said Brian Nash, vice president of Marketing and Sales. “We are grateful that we could help their foundation.”

Participants at the Los Angeles branch of Delancey Street are all ex-convicts. More than 85 percent have used heroin for more than 10 years, 24 percent are women, half are minorities and most are illiterate. These participants work at one of the Delancey Street businesses in exchange for room and board at the center. Protein is the Secret to a Healthy Body

LAFAYETTE, CA – February 28, 2002: Market-Ability announces its brand new product The Proto Diet System.

Do you realize that protein is the most important nutrient in your entire diet? It is responsible for your immune system, brain cognition, the development of cells, energy, skin, hair and nails. If you understand this, you understand how vitally important it is to get enough protein in your diet.

The Proto Diet System is a protein-based fat loss and body composition management system. It blends advanced metabolic science with simple, common sense procedures. The Proto Diet System is comprised of the Cyclical Dieting System as well as two major supplements: Proto Whey and Proto Lean.

A study done on the Proto Diet System yielded some amazing results. Participants who used the Proto Diet System lost an average of 5.5 inches in the waist, 4 inches from the thighs and 5 inches from the hips. And all this was fat loss, not muscle loss.

The Cyclical Dieting System used in PDS works by alternating days of restricted calorie intake with a day of unrestricted eating. The inclusion and timing of the free eating day is the key to maintaining maximum fat burning and muscle preservation. It prevents your body from going into "starvation mode", during which your metabolic rate actually decreases while your body tries to preserve energy.

ProtoLean is an herbal and amino acid product which stimulates metabolic rate and suppresses appetite. It helps all the organs involved in the digestion of food to work better and more efficiently. Proto Lean is nothing short of revolutionary when it comes to fat loss and body reshaping.

Proto Whey is an entirely new form of dietary protein that makes it easy to get the protein your body needs. Because of its added glutamine and high levels of amino acids, Proto Whey is the most advanced and metabolically efficient source of protein in existence.

While most Americans eat enough protein, they arenÂ’t absorbing enough protein. Protein isnÂ’t as easy to absorb as fat and carbohydrates are so we usually only absorb 30-35% of the protein we ingest. Using a proprietary method, the protein in Proto Whey has been broken down into micro peptides, allowing for 100% immediate absorption. Proto Whey is the only source of protein that allows your body to keep all the protein you are consuming! The result is a metabolism that works at itÂ’s full potential.

Proto Whey can be easily mixed with water, juice, milk or other liquids and comes in a delicious array of flavors: Vanilla Cappuccino, Suisse Chocolate, Raspberry Cream, French Vanilla and Orange Cream. Proto Whey is included as part of the Proto Diet System but can also be purchased individually.

Power Crunch is another way you can include more protein in your diet. Power Crunch is a delicious frosted wafer snack that is glutamine enhanced and delivers 13 grams of Proto Whey protein. They are low in fat, low in sugar and come in three great flavors. Power Crunch creme filled cookies are a unique alternative to energy and nutritional bars that are low in taste and high in sugar. Finally a good-for-you snack that tastes good too!

The product showcase presentation will be held on Monday March 4, 2002 at 990 Moraga Road, Suite C, Lafayette CA 94549. Call for times and reservation. Northern California based Market-Ability, LLC is a joint-venture firm that partners with new product inventors and distributors and markets their products and services through direct response television, radio, catalogs, direct mail and more. Chile Medical Market Intelligence Report

Chile Medical Market Intelligence Report

Dublin (PRWEB) October 14, 2005

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c25728 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c25728)) has announced the addition of Chile Medical Market Intelligence Report to their offering

Medistat Country Reports are ideal for executives wanting to understand the key drivers in medical markets and have access to a wealth of statistical data. Each report opens with an outlook section that provides analysis of the market and, importantly, provides 5-year forecasts by technology category, national data projections, outlook and key developments such as regulation, health facilities and government policy. The report also provides extensive background information, population trends, health status, health expenditure, organisation & administration, hospital services, medical personnel, healthcare development, market access information, trade data and essential industry contacts. ts.

Summary

During the last five years Chile's economy has generally performed well. Reforms have improved living standards of its 15.4 million population over neighbouring countries, although unemployment remains high at around 10%. Chile faces the traditional problems of poverty, environmental conditions and infectious diseases associated to developing countries, together with other problems more associated to the developed world, including an ageing population and chronic illnesses.

"Equity, participation, solidarity and quality" are the four pillars of the Chilean Healthcare Planning Objectives 2000-2010. This is a major step to strengthen the primary care system, enforce and expand the AUGE programme, improve IT health systems and improve management and auditing needs.

The best way to enter the Chilean market is through a well-established import company. The market is relatively small, and much emphasis is placed on personal contacts when selling to end-users. While the national health service is the leading purchaser of medical devices in Chile, mainly through tenders, it also encourages hospitals to make many of their own purchases. The reputation and market position of a product will be the greatest influences over purchasers' buying decisions. Importing into Chile is reportedly not difficult. Most products require import licences, but these are normally granted as a matter of routine.

The cost of a tummy tuck is something to consider when making your ultimate decision. (PRWEB) August 3, 2005

The cost of a tummy tuck is something to consider when making your ultimate decision. The fees vary and depend on the type of surgery performed, geographic location, hospital and anesthesia fees and other costs. Because a tummy tuck is almost always considered elective surgery, the procedure is usually not covered under medical insurance.

The associated costs of a tummy tuck include the cost of the procedure itself as well as hospital costs and anesthesia. Fees are typically paid in advance of the surgery, and will vary depending on the type of tummy tuck you decide on.

An estimate of tummy tuck prices follows, these figures are only estimates and should be verified for your procedure and region. A 2003 report on average tummy tuck prices puts the procedure alone at $4,600. This does not include the associated costs for hospitalization and other fees. In 2000, USA Today published an article estimating the costs of various plastic surgeries by region in the United States. The Northeastern US had the most expensive estimate at $4,995, while the Southwest had the lowest tummy tuck prices at $3,681.

Today there are many options for tummy tuck surgery, including overseas. Some countries have plastic surgery “spa resorts” where the surgery is performed, and then the patient can convalesce in a resort setting in privacy and with medical care. It would be extremely important to research a facility in another country, as rules and regulations for certification might differ from US standards. References, patient testimonies and medical records for the facility are important for you to carefully review before choosing an overseas option for a tummy tuck.

When considering tummy tuck prices, the total costs can vary from $3,000 - $8000. In addition to the cost of the procedure, be sure to consider the additional costs, which can include operating room fees, lab fees, anesthesiology and follow-up care. These associated costs will be very different according to geographic location, type of surgery and facility. Many surgeons can arrange for financing for your tummy tuck, so be sure to ask if financing is available. One final cost to consider and investigate is whether a tummy tuck procedure might affect your health insurance premiums. Some insurers may raise your risk profile after receiving elective surgery.

All things considered, tummy tuck prices vary according to location, complexity, experience of the surgeon and associated costs. When considering an important procedure such as this, it is crucial to consider all options carefully. Shop around and do your research to get the right procedure for you at the right price.

Balancing and Harmonizing Brain Functions for Health and Optimization

Balancing and Harmonizing Brain Functions for Health and Optimization

Cutting edge technology provides the latest advancement in the field of neurofeedback, offering a drug free way to train the brain to better handle the level of stimulation in today's modern life. As science advances, more attention is focusing on the brain and how it controls our mid, body and nervous systems and why it sometimes needs some help in self regulation. From children with ADD, corporate executives who want to perform better with less stress, post partum depression and simply a better golf swing, neurofeedback is providing more evidence that it can train the brain for the desired result.

Sacramento, Calif. (PRWEB) February 19, 2007

Brain Harmonizer LLC, (www. brainharmonizer. com), powered by Brain State Technologies™, has now opened its doors to the Sacramento community. This cutting edge technology is the latest advancement in the field of neurofeedback, offering a drug-free way to train the brain to better handle the amount of stimulation in today's modern life. By lowering the amounts of certain frequencies in the brain while encouraging others, the brain's frequency activity becomes balanced, allowing us to live without extra, often prohibitive activity which helps produce a clear and focused mind, enthusiasm, an enhanced sense of general well-being, and an ability to be the person we know we are, rather than living with a chronic sense of anxiety and fear.

Unlike earlier models of neurofeedback, BST™ uses a ratio-based model. This means that as the brain's activity is assessed, instead of comparing an individual's brain functioning to an external, standardized 'norm', the computer software takes into account the brain as a whole and the ratios between the individual's own areas of function i. e. alpha - theta ratios in the frontal lobes compared to the temporal lobes. This allows the BST™ software to produce a unique training regimen of several protocols tailored to an individual's needs.

As technology advances, science is turning more and more to the exploration of the brain and what effects this central processing unit has over our mind, body, behavior and emotions. In the past two months alone national magazines such as The Economist, Scientific American Mind, and Time have all come out with articles turning to the brain for answers for improving human functioning and behavior. In the January 29, 2007 edition of Time magazine, in response to his recent research, neuroscientist Richard Davidson says, "…that we can think of emotions, moods and states such as compassion as trainable mental skills" (p. 79). With the high cost of pharmaceuticals these days, as well as unwanted side affects of drugs, brain conditioning is emerging as a likely alternative.

Brain Harmonizer LLC, an affiliate of Brain State Technologies™ is now offering this service to Sacramento. After receiving training in Scottsdale, Arizona with the software's designer Lee Gerdes and becoming a licensee of the technology, Scott Meredith, owner of Brain Harmonizer is optimistic. Meredith first opened Brain Harmonizer's doors in Sedona, Arizona where he was booked from day one. After only a few months the decision was made to move the office to Sacramento to act as more of a central home-base. As the business is picking up speed, Meredith has plans to open multiple offices in Sacramento, as well as Vancouver, B. C. and other locations across Canada. "I think we have a lot to offer the community here," says Meredith, "this is really such an invaluable service as it has so many applications from dealing with issues to peak performance. If you think about it, humans are currently only operating on about 3% of their brain's capacity. If you could increase a person's brain capabilities even 1%, that's a 25% increase - you'd be amazed what 1% could do."

As neurofeedback has proven itself in significantly helping with ADD/ADHD and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (among other things), Meredith is eager to start working with teens in the community to increase educational performance, and interest, in school, as well as talking to the Sacramento police force in helping to alleviate some of the stressful effects of working out in the field. "I think weunderestimate the effects that every-day life has on creating imbalance in the brain. Teens have a lot of stress and stimuli to negotiate and I think Brain State Conditioning™ could really help put them on top of their game again."

Brain Harmonizer is one of many affiliates of Brain State Technologies™ and is located at 4801 J Street, Suite C in East Sacramento, CA 95819. Their hours are 8am -8pm Mon.-Fri. and 8am-1pm on Saturday. They can be reached at 916-451-7227, or on the web at www. brainharmonizer. com

Radon Seal and Basement Waterproofing Ottawa Trades Group is the driving force in getting the message out to consumers about the dangers of indoor air quality and itÂ’s solutions

Radon Seal and Basement Waterproofing Ottawa Trades Group is the driving force in getting the message out to consumers about the dangers of indoor air quality and itÂ’s solutions.

Basement Waterproofing & Concrete Preservation A Waterproofing Concrete Sealer That Will Last Forever!

(PRWEB) December 13, 2002

Wet Basement, Radon, Mold and Mildew?

Most new basements develop water seepage within 10 to 15 years. Efflorescence ("white powder") or musty odours are the first warning signs. Basements, the No. 1 complaint of homeowners:

· over 60% of homes have a wet basement

· 1 in 3 have some mold and mildew

· over 2% have the toxic "black mold"

· 1 out of 5 homes has an elevated level of radon.

Basement remodelling traps invisible water vapour. Damp basement air circulates through the house and spreads allergy-causing molds, mildew, and radon gas. Indoor air quality in homes and schools has become an urgent child health issue.

You could spend thousands of dollars on home repairs - basement waterproofing, damp-proofing, and radon mitigation. Or, you can deep-seal your concrete with RadonSeal to stop and prevent basement problems once and for all!

Waterproofing and Radon Mitigation in One!

The cause is clear - concrete is naturally porous (12 to 20% air). When concrete cures, water creates a network of interconnected pores (capillaries). They let in liquid water, water vapour, and radon gas. Like a wick, they even draw water from several feet away. And as the concrete ages, the pores get bigger and bigger.

As a temporary fix, you could try concrete paints, waterproofing sealers, or cementitious coatings. But they cannot stop gases (vapour and radon) and soon crack or peel.

Why not tackle the cause of the problem? Seal the pores deep inside concrete and combine waterproofing, damp-proofing, and radon mitigation in one!

RadonSeal Deep-Penetrating Concrete Sealer

RadonSeal penetrates deep inside bare concrete (up to 4 inches), neutralizes harmful chemicals, forcefully expands into capillaries, and hardens into insoluble silicate minerals. (Silicates are the "binders" of concrete.) The results are straightforward but extensive:

1. Seals concrete against water seepage, vapour, and radon.

2. Bonds, strengthens and hardens concrete, reduces cracking.

3. Neutralizes alkali, preserves concrete, protects paints and covering.

Radon Seal is permanent - you never have to apply it again! It does not leave a paint film or colour that could peel or wear off. The surface remains non-slippery and paintable. More on how RadonSeal works

Seal and protect your basement or slab and outdoor concrete:

poured concrete and concrete blocks or cinderblocks mortar, stucco, shotcrete, grout, porous materials containing cement or lime new or old concrete, even when already deteriorated or seeping.

How to make a wet basement dry

RadonSeal Penetrating Concrete Sealer waterproofs leaky basements. It penetrates deep into concrete (up to 4"), reacts with alkali, expands into pores, and hardens as a mineral. This seals the concrete against water leaks and dampness.

RadonSeal works inside the concrete. Unlike waterproofing surface sealers, it cannot get lifted by efflorescence or water pressure. And it cannot peel or wear off - once the concrete sealed, the seal is permanent!

RadonSeal is non-toxic, nonflammable, and does not contain chemical solvents or release VOC's. Its spray-on application

RadonSeal seals bare (unpainted) cementitious materials:

· Poured concrete

· Concrete blocks or cinderblocks

· Mortar in block walls or stone foundations.

Always seal the whole basement - both the floor and walls. If you seal only the leaking area, water will find another way.

If you have a brand new basement, now is the best time to prevent future moisture problems, strengthen the concrete, reduce cracking, stop efflorescence ("white powder") and dusting, and preserve the concrete.

New IMS Contract Offers Amerinet Members Software for Tracking Tissue, Implantable Devices

A new agreement with IMS provides Amerinet members significant savings on Ready Tracker-Tissue, a web-based inventory management application that tracks not only tissue but implantable devices. The software helps hospitals prepare for new FDA regulations that will require a unique device identification system (UDI) for all medical devices. The standardized use of bar codes will enable health care providers to more efficiently handle product recalls, manage inventories of biologic and non-biologic implants and comply with JCAHO and HIPAA regulations.

Birmingham, AL (Vocus) November 15, 2010

Under a new contract with IMS, Amerinet members can receive significant savings on Ready Tracker®-Tissue, a web-based inventory management application that tracks not only tissue but implantable devices. The agreement is timely: Facilities that begin tracking implantable devices now will be prepared when FDA implements a mandatory unique device identification system (UDI) for medical devices.

"Many of our customers already use Ready Tracker - Tissue to track both biologic and non-biologic implants," said Whitney Ligon, Director of Corporate Software for IMS. "When mandatory standardization becomes a reality, these hospitals will already have a system in place."

Back to the Future: Non Surgical Solutions to Spinal Disc Rehab with Spinal Decompression

Back to the Future: Non Surgical Solutions to Spinal Disc Rehab with Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression is the most effective treatment for herniated discs and more doctors are looking into this breakthrough procedure that is 86%-91% successful without drugs or surgery.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 19, 2006

Working out can be a welcome release from stress and tension. But for those stricken with lower back pain, this experience can easily crank up your pain. Most gym enthusiasts know that once you injure a disc (the soft jelly material between your spinal vertebrae) it can severely limit your exercise routine and quality of life.

For many, this is due to collective loading of stress on to the spine – due to bad posture, repetitive tasks, and use of weighted machines. Over time, these activities begin to restrict normal motion, and the spinal discs deform as a result of pressure changes within the disc—leading to a loss of disc space and degenerative arthritis.

One of the reasons that your discs do not heal properly after an injury, is that as we age the blood supply to the disc diminishes. Without a proper blood supply, the tissue does not heal properly and the injured disc continues to degenerate. On the contrary, if you injure your muscle or bone, it heals in a shorter period of time, because of its blood supply. An example would be a fracture, once a bone is fractured the bone is stronger in the fractured area, than prior to the injury. On the other hand, when a disc is injured, it cannot heal properly and the result is a permanent weak link. Over time, excessive forces on the disc, can cause this injury to flair up and resulting in a life time of pain and suffering.

For many years, surgery has been the only option for pain relief. However, due to recent advances in medical technology, there is a new revolution in a non-surgical technique that is FDA approved and safe. This new therapy is Spinal Disk Decompression. The treatment uses specialized equipment to position the discs and ligaments to receive adequate blood flow to heal and strengthen.

Decompression Therapy works to relieve pressure among herniated discs, ultimately allowing blood, nutrients and water to flow through the affected areas and increasing the ability to recover.

A typical treatment requires a commitment of four to six weeks, each session lasting 25-45 minutes long. The patient relaxes on a decompression table, while watching his or her favorite DVD as the time passes. The treatment is a gradual process, gently allowing the herniated discs to return to their natural state.

Clinical studies have been performed to evaluate the effect of spinal decompression on herniated discs. The physical findings of patients with herniated and degenerative disc disease, show that 86% of patients who complete the therapy report immediate resolution of symptoms. Physical examination findings show improvement in 92% of patients over the course of treatment.

“These findings demonstrate a significant, lasting improvement, compared to the results derived from traditional surgery. In my opinion, this procedure has the potential to become a primary treatment for herniated disc injuries and spinal pain management.”

Explained Dr. Steven Shoshany, a Manhattan based Chiropractor and expert in non-surgical spinal disc herniation treatment.

The American health care system spends more than $50 billion dollars annually on back pain treatment. According to the American Chiropractic Association, one half of all Americans admit to having back pain each year and chronic back pain is the number one disability in persons under age 45.

Dr. Steven Shoshany is the founder of www. nycdisc. com which has multiple locations throughout the New York metro area. He has treated hundreds of patients suffering from back pain. He is an expert in treating spinal disc herniations and bulges without surgery, utilizing the most advanced non-surgical techniques that are both FDA approved, drug free and safe.

The timing for this release couldn’t be better because there are so many people thinking about how they can ‘beat the bulge’ if they have indulged over the Christmas period. The Gaiam Yoga Videos and DVDs for many people would be a fitness wake-up call to embracing a more healthier lifestyle for the body and mind for 2002.”

International Profit Associates Supports Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October, International Profit Associates (IPA-IBA) has taken an active role in support of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Buffalo Grove, IL (PRWEB) October 19, 2005

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October, International Profit Associates (IPA-IBA) has taken an active role in support of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

International Profit Associates participated in the 9th annual Komen Chicago Race For The Cure. A team of 85 employees, dubbed “Business Doctors,” represented the company to walk, run or donate to one of the world’s largest 5k races and 1k fun walk and runs. The group was given the Second Highest Pledge Award for 2005 by raising $9,970.50 and team captain, Kelly Fermazin, took second place among all participants for a personal raised donation of $7,000.

A total of 310 employees also participated in Lee National Denim Day, the world’s largest single-day fundraiser. IPA-IBA employees donated and raised $1,550 and showed their support to eradicate breast cancer by wearing denim. John Burgess matched the employee donation for a total of $3,100. In 2004 alone, Denim Day raised $7.6 million for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Since 1996, companies nationwide have raised more than $50 million for Lee National Denim Day and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation receives 100 percent of all donations.

In 1983, Nancy Brinker created the first Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the Cure® in Dallas, Texas with 800 participants. Today, the Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. In addition to raising funds, the Komen Race for the Cure® Series is committed to educating the public about early detection, the strongest method of surviving this life-threatening disease. The five-year survival rate is 95 percent when the disease is discovered while still confined to the breast. The Komen Race for the Cure® Series helps raise awareness of the importance of a positive breast health program – monthly breast self-examinations for all women beginning at age 20, clinical breast exams every three years beginning at age 20 and annually at age 40, and annual mammography beginning by age 40.

Lee National Denim Day is the world's largest single-day fundraiser for breast cancer. On one Friday in October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Lee® Jeans encourages millions of people nationwide to slip into their favorite jeans and make a $5 donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Participating businesses and organizations allow employees and members to wear denim in exchange for a $5 donation to the Komen Foundation. Since 1996, Lee National Denim Day has raised more than $50 million for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs.

Partners for Urology Health First in Ohio with New Radiation Therapy Technology

Partners for Urology Health, a joint venture between Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP), NEO Urology Associates Inc., and Advanced Urology Inc., is proud to announce the installation of Ohio's first and only radiation oncology center with Elekta Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), the world’s most advanced radiation therapy technology.

Youngstown, Ohio (Vocus) February 9, 2010

Partners for Urology Health, a joint venture between Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP)], NEO Urology Associates Inc., and Advanced Urology Inc., is proud to announce the installation of Ohio's first and only radiation oncology center with Elekta Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), the worlds most advanced radiation therapy technology. Elekta VMAT is a new treatment option for cancer patients and promises to significantly improve patients experience and the quality of care.

"This new technology reduces the time required for radiotherapy sessions to five minutes or less, while giving us the ability to treat targets more aggressively than ever before," explains Dr. Rashad El-Dabh, radiation oncologist. "It's an innovative way to deliver radiation treatments and is a significant improvement to existing radiation therapy techniques."

Elekta VMAT precisely conforms the radiation to a tumor's shape. The radiation is delivered only to the intended area, allowing clinical staff to spare more surrounding healthy tissue and better avoid nearby critical anatomy. To further ensure accuracy, 3D imaging at ultra-low doses allows staff to quickly and safely verify tumor position prior to treatment. Sophisticated monitoring tools further enhance precision by monitoring treatment in real-time to ensure that the dose is delivered as precisely as the radiation oncologist prescribes it.

For a fact sheet and images of the Elekta VMAT, visit HMpartners. org/media (http://www. ehealthconnection. com/regions/youngstown/content/presskits. asp).

Department of Labor Statement Draws Fire From National Retiree Legislative Network

Department of Labor Statement Draws Fire From National Retiree Legislative Network

National Retiree Legislative Network challenges Department of Labor Secretary on her Assistant's statement that the DOL no longer represents "retirees."

Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 14, 2004

Officials of the National Retiree Legislative Network (NRLN) have sent a letter to U. S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao regarding a Department of Labor (DOL) spokeswoman’s comment that retirees “aren’t our constituents anymore.” That statement appeared in the Nov. 10, 2004 issue of The Wall Street Journal.

“To discover that the Department of Labor disavows any jurisdiction over issues relating to retirees is simply astounding,” NRLN president Jim Norby wrote in the letter Secretary Chao.

Norby explained that the DOL’s jurisdiction is clearly outlined in its published mission statement that reads: “The Department of Labor fosters and promotes the welfare of the job seekers, wage earners, and retirees of the United States by improving their working conditions, advancing their opportunities for profitable employment, protecting their retirement and health care benefits…”

“Unless the Department’s Mission Statement has changed, I am assuming that the unnamed spokesperson was shamefully wrong in making the statement. That leaves me very concerned about the culture at the Department of Labor, as it reflects a total disinterest and ignorance of the welfare of retirees and its very role in protecting that constituency,” Norby wrote.

Citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) responsibilities that reside in the DOL, Norby emphasized, “These protections extend equally to workers and retirees, to participants and to beneficiaries. The notion that DOL won't enforce ERISA to protect retirees is utterly wrong.”

Norby noted that previous letters and communications from the NRLN to Secretary Chao have gone unanswered. “Instead of being an advocate for our issues, the DOL has taken a laissez-faire attitude when it comes to finding solutions that will protect the pensions of some 45 million current and future retirees. This head in the sand approach to our concerns won’t make them go away,” Norby added.

The NRLN is a grassroots, non-partisan coalition of retiree organizations dedicated to protecting the pension plans and retirement benefits of their members. Based in Washington, D. C., NRLN represents nearly 2 million retirees from Association of US WEST Retirees, Association of BellTel Retirees, Lucent Retirees, Association of Prudential Retirees, Monsanto Retirees Association, Association of Raytheon Retirees, Aetna Retirees Association, along with groups from Boeing, GE, GM, IBM, Johns Manville, AT&T, Portland Electric (Enron), DamlerChrysler, Delta, SNET and others. Visit the NRLN Web site at www. nrln. org for more details.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) September 7, 2010 –

At the end of the month, the Austin chapter of the Children in Nature Collaborative will host its third annual Celebration awards dinner, and recognition of all those in the community focused on getting our local children out into nature. Host Westcave Preserve will highlight five 2010 award winners. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department executive director, Carter Smith, will keynote and Evan Smith of the Texas Tribune will serve as master of ceremonies. Numerous Austin organizations, companies and families help fund the awards dinner, and sponsorship and tickets are still available to be part of the Thursday, September 30 event at the Austin Four Seasons Hotel. More information is available at: http://www. westcave. org/ (http://www. westcave. org/)

“Arguably the greatest challenge that we as conservationists face is ensuring that our young people understand, experience, and value nature as part of their everyday lives,” said keynote speaker, Carter Smith, executive director, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. “Without those strong bonds, the future of our lands and waters is uncertain at best.”

The Austin Children in Nature Collaborative (CINC-Austin) is a private/public partnership dedicated to creating social change so that kids throughout Central Texas have easy and frequent connections to our natural world. CINC-Austin is facilitated by Westcave Preserve, and comprised of many organizations who together execute a strategic plan to inspire social change resulting in a significant increase in the amount of time children spend interacting with nature on a daily basis. Scientific research increasingly shows that kids with frequent access to the natural world are healthier, happier and smarter. CINC-Austin delivers such amazing resources as NatureRocksAustin, http://www. naturerocksaustin. org/ (http://www. naturerocksaustin. org/), recently launched this past May, as a real-time interactive website and comprehensive resource for families to find local places to go and things to do to connect kids with the great outdoors.

Recognizing 2010 Achievements:
The annual Children in Nature awards highlight several individuals or organizations doing exceptional things that support the Children in Nature Collaborative mission and vision. Awards are given in five categories recognizing excellence in connecting children to nature:
Lee Walker Award for Community Collaboration  John Covert Watson Award for Vision  John F. Ahrns Award for Environmental Education  Westcave Preserve Award for Enduring Dedication  Special Recognition Award We are happy to reveal actual award winner names to interested press in advance of the event.

“We are inspired, every day, by the many regional leaders who have joined this campaign to get more kids outside more often,” said Max Scoular, chair of the Westcave board of directors. “Those who will be honored on September 30 represent some of the most creative, inspiring and far-reaching initiatives in our community to give kids regular opportunities to get outside. And the lessons learned may well result in life-long love of the natural world."

As keynote speaker, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) executive director, Carter Smith is expected to talk about the current disconnect between children and nature and the urgency in finding regular opportunities for kids to actively explore the natural world. Connecting our children to nature is one of the highest priorities for TPWD, a leader in helping families and children discover the wonder of nature for decades. Evan Smith, editor of the Texas Tribune and former editor of Texas Monthly Magazine, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event.

More About the Children in Nature Collaborative:
The vision of the Children in Nature Collaborative is to ignite and fan the flames of the movement to reconnect kids to the wonder and joy of the natural world. Westcave Preserve has served as the facilitator for the Central Texas Children in Nature Collaborative since the spring of 2007. Examples of the group’s work include influencing the way communities are designed, how schools are landscaped, engaging pediatricians who value and encourage outdoor play, helping teachers integrate the outdoors into their curriculum, and supporting the outdoor choices families make when planning for their play time.

More About Westcave Preserve:
Westcave Preserve, located 28 miles west of downtown Austin in the Texas Hill Country, hosts more than 8,000 visitors each year for guided tours of its canyon and its stunning grotto and waterfall. As modern communities, families and especially children are spending more time indoors and less time in the natural world, they often demonstrate symptoms of “Nature Deficit Disorder” – a term coined by bestselling author Richard Louv. These include increased feelings of stress, trouble paying attention and feelings of not being rooted in our world. Westcave Preserve offers an antidote for “Nature Deficit Disorder.” More on Westcave Preserve can be found at: http://www. westcave. org/ (http://www. westcave. org/)

Back to the Future for Pain Management

Back to the Future for Pain Management

More and more pain sufferers are turning to traditional alternatives such as acupuncture, herbal medicine and meditation. In addition to pain relief, these alternatives are seen to provide general health benefits without serious side effects.

Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) July 13, 2004

More and more pain sufferers are turning to traditional alternatives such as acupuncture, herbal medicine and meditation. In addition to pain relief, these alternatives are seen to provide general health benefits without serious side effects. This article examines some of the popular treatment options.

The ancient Chinese Practice of acupuncture is based on the belief that health is determined by the level of chi (vital life energy) that is in the body. This energy is thought to move through the body through pathways called meridians, which connect to specific organs in the body. Acupuncturists insert needles into points on the body that connect to these channels to release blocked "chi" that might be the cause of pain. During treatment, the acupuncturist inserts thin needles for anywhere from a few minutes to a half an hour into specific points on the body. This practice is thought to stimulate endorphins, the body's natural painkillers and is useful for the treatment of a variety of disorders including backache, sinus pain, jaw pain, spinal disorders, withdrawal and mental disorders.

Also known as "contact healing", acupressure is based on the same principles as acupuncture, except hand-pressure and finger pressure is applied to specific points on the body to release neurotransmitters that alleviate pain.

Another aspect of traditional Chinese medicine is herbal medicine. Herbs have been used for centuries for their pain relieving qualities. Here are some herbs that are recommended for common disorders:

Cramps & Spasms: angelica, cramp bar, kava, rosemary. Nerve Pain: capsaicin, chamomile, gotu kola, licorice. Back Pain: hops, wood betony, passionflower. Migraine: feverfew, linden, skullcap. Headaches: peppermint, spearmint. Joint pain: ginger, sea cucumber.

Aromatherapy (sniffing or applying essential oils) is yet another popular option. Aromatherapy is thought to change an individual's brain chemistry so that pleasurable neuro-transmitters are released to relieve pain. Geranium, jasmine, juniper, lavender, peppermint, rose, rosemary and thyme are oils commonly used for this purpose.

Homeopathy, which has been popularized by the British Royal Family since Victorian times is based on the principle of "like repels like." The theory is that miniscule amounts of chemicals, irritants or elements that mimic or resemble the main ailment will send a large message to the brain to repel pain and discomfort.

Meditation, which has also been practiced for thousands of years, is a conscious attempt to calm the mind so that it is not cluttered with thoughts and anxieties that might be contributing to an unnecessary belief in the existence of pain. There are hundreds of different meditation techniques, but mostly they all into three categories: concentrative, mindful and transcendental meditation. During concentrative meditation, focusing on a single sound, object or one's breath, produces a tranquil mind that facilitates the production of pain-relieving endorphins. During mindful meditations, the mind is encouraged to become aware of, but not reactive to thoughts, feelings and sensations in order to achieve a tranquil state of mind. During transcendental meditation, the mind settles down to a state that transcends thought altogether.

Therapies that focus on the mind are becoming increasingly popular. Guided Imagery research has indicated that bodily functions that were previously thought to be beyond conscious control, such as chronic pain, can be controlled through the use of visualization. Guided imagery encourages the sufferer to think in pictures that eliminate negative thoughts thus raising levels of pleasurable brain chemicals, such as serotonin, decreasing anxiety and increasing the effectiveness of the immune system. Through guided imagery, the mind conjures up mental scenes in order to better direct the body's energy. For instance, if an individual is suffering from a stabbing pain, he or she might want to imagine a knife being removed from the spot and a subsequent glowing feeling of relief.

The current popularity of traditional treatments is likely to continue for some time. Even major pharmaceutical manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon by manufacturing such herbs as willow bark and feverfew and marketing them as natural alternatives to ibuprofen and aspirin.

It is important to note that the above suggestions do not represent cures for conditions, but more represent strategies and opportunities to manage your chronic pain. It is also recommended that you consult with your health practitioner before embarking on any new pain management program.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and Rotary International Groups Work Together To Improve Health And Education In Harford County

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and Rotary International Groups Work Together To Improve Health And Education In Harford County

Unique collaboration of two complementary organizations serves as a strategic method of fostering a culturally diverse approach to community improvement. As part of the Juneteenth freedom celebration of youth will actively participate in an educational program while adults give the gift of life through blood transfusions and registration into the National Bone Marrow Donor Database.

Havre De Grace, MD (PRWEB) June 5, 2010

June 19th, known as Juneteenth Day, is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in January of 1863 and the Civil War ended in April of 1865, this news was withheld from the slaves in Texas until June 19th of 1865. Since Texas was the last region of the country to be informed that slavery was officially over, June 19th has been identified as a day that all Americans can celebrate the freedom that we now take for granted.

Most people who recognize Juneteenth celebrate it by hosting picnics or family reunions. This year the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. - Iota Nu Chapter, the Havre de Grace Rotary Club, St. James AME Church, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church have teamed up with the Red Cross and The National Bone Marrow Donor Program to celebrate Juneteenth Freedom Day in a manner that will be beneficial to the entirety of the local community.

The day starts off with an 8:00 AM youth education breakfast at the Chesapeake Grill Restaurant where children ages 7 to 13 will engage in scholarship and public speaking by reciting oral stories about what their families were doing during the period of June 19, 1865. The participating students will have to spend time with grandparents and other family members prior to the event so that they can better understand their personal relationship to the events of that historic day.

At 10:00 AM the activity will move to Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Havre de Grace where the Red Cross and the National Bone Marrow Donor Program will be collaborating with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. - Iota Nu Chapter and the Havre de Grace Rotary Club for both a blood donation drive and a bone marrow donor screening drive. It is expected that these two opportunities for community altruism will benefit many area citizens in need of either blood transfusion or bone marrow donations.

The blood drive is named after Dr. Charles Drew, who was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and pioneered innovative methods of preserving blood and plasma. Each year thousands of Americans require the transfusion of blood or blood products in order to survive major surgery and a plethora of other medical conditions. Community blood drives at schools and churches are essential in that they contribute to about 60% of the nation's blood supply.

Bone marrow donor screening programs benefit a smaller number of patients, but the impact of a bone marrow donation is often the key factor that determines survivability from cancer or leukemia. New treatments for sickle cell anemia indicate that bone marrow transplantation may be a key factor in curing this painful disease. http://www. scinfo. org/bonemarr. htm (http://www. scinfo. org/bonemarr. htm)

It is unfortunate that although new sickle cell anemia treatments will greatly increase the need for bone marrow donors, few African Americans have registered themselves as potential donors. Although there are over 6 million Caucasians in the National Bone Marrow Database there are only about 600,000 African Americans registered in the database. So few African Americans in the database can end in a sad day for the parents of children whose lives may depend on finding an appropriate donor match.

The collaboration of Omegas and Rotarians for the positive benefit of the community may not be frequent, but based on the guiding principles of each organization, it is a natural one. Each organization is guided by four principles that must be a component of any activity.

The initials to the name Omega Psi Phi are derived from the Greek letters for the phrase meaning "friendship is essential to the soul". The four cardinal principles of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. are:
Manhood
Scholarship
Perseverance
Uplift

The four principles of Rotary International are described as the four points of the four-way test:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Both organizations will build friendships and celebrate freedom through community service on Juneteenth Day. This unique union enhances cooperative diversity and can only be positive for this and other communities.
