''Jake Steinfeld's Street-Smart Tips for Growing Your Business

From 'I've Seen A Lot of Famous People Naked, and They've Got Nothing on You!'

1. DOUGH TO GROW.

The need for cold cash keeps popping up at every stage, from start-up through the life of a business. It may sound scary, but even in down times it can be a good move to invest additional funds. By preparing your business for growth, you’ll be ready to rip when the economy bounces back.

2. DEVELOP NEW PRODUCTS OR BRANDS.

Dare to step out of the box and try something a little risky and a lot different. Don’t be foolhardy. Don’t stretch yourself too thin. But don’t be afraid either. Keep any new products or services within the umbrella of what you know and do best. And test the heck out of the market before you throw a lot of precious dollars at manufacturing and marketing. But do be willing to try new and fresh approaches. You might be surprised at what works!

3. GROW ONLINE AND REACH NEW MARKETS.

E-Commerce 101: The Internet is a great business tool that helps even small businesses compete with the big boys. It’s simply a highly efficient way to market your products and reach a world of people who are looking for whatever you are selling. There are plenty of Web wizards out there willing to help you build a Web site and pitch your products or services online for affordable rates. You might also consider marketing your products or services on eBay.

4. GROW WITH GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS.

If your street-smart business offers products or services that can be marketed and sold to the military, NASA, or any other government agency or department, then you shouldn’t let the fear of bureaucratic red tape scare you off. Doing business with Uncle Sam can open up red, white, blue, and golden opportunities, if you are willing to put in the time and effort to learn how government bidding and contracts work.

5. PARTNER UP FOR MUTUAL GROWTH.

Strategic alliances only work if both businesses are compatible and both benefit from the deal. You can’t go in being selfish or trying to take more than you give. At its heart, street-smart success is all about relationships.

Subject: Fellowships (opportunitiy)

Rockefeller Foundation Humanities Fellowships - Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, Smithsonian Institution

Deadline: January 15, 2006 Washington, D. C.

Cultural heritage is today a rubric of ever-expanding scope. It is used globally as a basis for multinational, national, state, and local

Programs and governance. Cultural heritage is also the focus of ideas and programs generated by hundreds of non-governmental organizations,

Community-based and advocacy groups, and even businesses. Yet the concept of “cultural heritage” is vastly under-theorized. It has lacked

An academic, disciplinary base; has generated only an attenuated theoretical literature; and has generally left the bearers of cultural

Heritage out of the discussion. Rockefeller Foundation Humanities Fellows at the Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife and Cultural

Heritage help refine the theoretical framework for cultural heritage and expand it to include grassroots voices. Reflecting the perspectives of

Academic specialists, civil society groups, and public cultural organizations, fellows’ work informs dialogues and practice across

Social, political, and disciplinary boundaries, as well as indicating future directions for policy.

The Smithsonian hosts six to eight fellows for each of three years to work on the theoretical development of the concept of cultural heritage.

Fellows examined the relationship between cultural heritage and political representation (2004-05) and the economics of cultural

Heritage (2005-06); the third year of the program (2006-07) concentrates on the arts. The fellows are humanities-oriented thinkers and

Practitioners engaged in the work of academic institutions, public organizations, and cultural communities.

Bird Bath Safety for Wild Birds and People

Bird Bath Safety for Wild Birds and People

Provide safe drinking and bathing water for birds, and prevent the spread of West Nile Disease.

(PRWEB) May 10, 2005

Birds require water for drinking and for maintaining feathers in top flight condition. A backyard bath provides a great source of water for wild birds. However, birdbath owners need to ensure that the bath is kept clean for birdsÂ’ health, and the bath does not become a breeding ground for potentially dangerous mosquitoes.

Sharon Dunn, President of Duncraft, Inc., is a long-time backyard birding expert and a stickler for keeping bird baths clean. “Bath water should be replaced every day or two to prevent the build-up of minerals deposits, stains and organic contaminates.” she states. She suggests adding a non-toxic water cleaner to the bath water as well. “Duncraft carries several inexpensive cleaners that reduce unhealthy water conditions and restore water clarity. Our Birdbath Protector is a liquid additive, and our Disposable Birdbath Water Cleaner is an easy-to-use drop-in.” Both are available at www. duncraft. com.

Moving water draws birds into the yard like a magnet. Misters, drippers and fountains can also help prevent the spread of West Nile disease. Moving water breaks the surface tension of water which mosquitoes rely on to hatch eggs – moving water drowns eggs and stops the breeding cycle. “I highly recommend our Mister Dripper Combo. Set it to a delicate dripping action one day – and to a refreshing mist the next. Also, the Water Wiggler is a fantastic new idea. This battery-operated gadget fits inside the bath and quietly agitates the water. And it sells for under $20!”

Bird baths and larger areas of water can be safely treated to eliminate mosquito larvae. “If it’s not convenient to add a device to your water source to create movement, we suggest you treat the water with a safe, non-toxic larvacide. Our Mosquito Dunks and Mosquito Control Packets are so easy to use – just toss directly into the water. Both solutions contain a larvacide that targets mosquito larvae.” These and other eco-friendly mosquito control products can be found at www. duncraft. com.

About Duncraft

Duncraft Inc., based in Concord, NH, was founded in 1952. Today the company manufactures Duncraft-brand bird feeders, mails the Duncraft Catalog nationwide and its www. duncraft. com website offers hundreds of the very best birdfeeders, birdfoods and other wildbird specialties.

New Research Reports Physicians Value Highly Educated Pharmaceutical Representatives: Education - Not Regulation - Needed for Improved Physician/Representative Interaction

New Research Reports Physicians Value Highly Educated Pharmaceutical Representatives: Education - Not Regulation - Needed for Improved Physician/Representative Interaction

New research with physicians and pharmaceutical sales representatives report parallel results: physicians value a highly educated sales representative whose knowledge goes beyond product information, to include disease management, business acumen, regulatory and patient quality-of-life issues. Sales representatives who have this type of education say they are able to spend more time with physicians and have more informative, credible discussions.

ROANOKE, Va. (PRWEB) January 22, 2008

The research was conducted in summer and fall of 2007 by CMR Institute, Roanoke, Va., an independent, not-for-profit provider of healthcare education and certification for pharmaceutical sales representatives and managers.

"There's been a steady erosion of the public's confidence in the pharmaceutical industry, and ongoing attempts to regulate it, such as the recent vote to license sales representatives in Washington, D. C., and similar actions considered in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine," said Jim Dutton, president of CMR Institute. "This has focused new attention on interaction between physicians and representatives."

"Our research shows that most physicians find considerable value in meeting with pharmaceutical representatives when the call is substantive. We believe strongly that it is not more regulation that is needed, but stepped-up education, which will benefit physicians and, ultimately, their patients," said Dutton.

The Institute surveyed physicians, industry leaders and sales representatives in focus groups, quantitative surveys and one-on-one interviews and found:

-- Physicians place a high value on a well-educated, knowledgeable, ethical and unbiased sales representative (see fact sheet at www. cmrinstitute. org/news/press_releases. htm (http://www. cmrinstitute. org/news/press_releases. htm) for details).

-- Physicians overwhelmingly want sales representatives who have knowledge beyond information about the products they sell, including disease management, drug classes and indications, effectiveness and quality-of-life issues.

-- Sales representatives who have completed the in-depth requirements for certification by CMR Institute - a process that typically takes two or more years - report that their enhanced education contributes to:

Information and skills that sales representatives should be well-versed in and ranked as very important by a majority of physicians included:

-- Basic principles of drug actions and interactions, including pharmacokinetics, factors that modify the drug response and adverse reactions related to the representative's product(s)

-- Drug resistance trends

-- Presenting and explaining evidence-based clinical studies

-- Outcome measurements and quality-of-life issues

-- Cost benefit of pharmaceuticals

-- Adherence to ethical business practices

-- The role of disease management and clinical practice guidelines in treating patients

-- Disease profiles, related complications, diagnostic procedures and treatment methods

-- Therapeutic classes of drugs and indications for each

-- How the representative's product compares to other products in the same therapeutic class

-- Third party payers (insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid), Medicare Part D

-- Knowledge of physician's specialty and training

-- Effective communications skills

-- Interpersonal skills

"Only a small percentage of the physicians we surveyed - about 10 percent - said they do not see sales representatives, which shows that the majority of physicians still make time to see representatives," said Michelle R. O'Connor, senior vice president of Learning Strategy and Innovation of CMR Institute. "Physicians deal with constantly evolving medical, science and industry issues so it should be no surprise that they want to interact with people who are well informed and have a strong understanding of the complex health care environment."

The nationwide physician survey included 1,500 primary care physicians and 1,500 specialists, with 174 responses. More than 350 sales representatives who have completed certification through CMR Institute also participated in a survey.

CMR Institute is a not-for-profit organization that has provided advanced education and certification and set national standards for industry sales representatives since 1966. Its courses and certification programs are developed by leading experts, university faculty, and physicians from academic medical centers and include content in areas such as science, disease management, ethics and leadership.

CMR Institute offers 46 courses, 29 of which have earned graduate credit status from the American Council on Education. These graduate credit recommendations may be applied toward a master's degree at many major universities.

CMR Institute is dedicated to increasing knowledge, skills, and understanding of the issues affecting healthcare today. A leading provider of educational solutions for healthcare professionals for more than 40 years, CMR Institute's mission is to advance knowledge to enhance healthcare. AP9 GalleriaUSA Offers Tips for Bringing Home the Spirit of Halloween

AP9 GalleriaUSA Offers Tips for Bringing Home the Spirit of Halloween

AP9 GalleriaUSA, by Adaptive Marketing LLC, provides members with significant savings on home decorating, entertainment, more.

Stamford, CT (PRWEB) October 1, 2005

Folks from one to 101 like to dress up for Halloween, but why stop with humans? If you want to create a Halloween for the ages and liven up the holiday for kids and adults alike, AP9 GalleriaUSA (http://www. galleriausa-program. com/), a leading discount membership program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC, suggests that you turn your home into a haunted house of horrors that will impress party-goers and trick-or-treaters alike.

Halloween provides the perfect reason to step out of your own skin and don the face and/or garb of, well, practically anyone else. To get into the true spirit of the night, though, members of AP9 GalleriaUSA (http://www. galleriausa-program. com/) can access their benefits via DealPass (http://www. dealpass. com/) to save on an extreme home makeover that will thrill and delight the whole neighborhood.

All it takes to transform your home into Halloween headquarters is a little time and a touch of the odd and eerie. Want some ideas? Step into the AP9 GalleriaUSA (http://www. galleriausa-program. com/) chamber Â

-- Create your own cemetery with tombstones made out of styrofoam boards or cardboard. Paint them gray, and write your own epitaphs — "The Curse of the Bambino," "Rotary Phones," "Last Year's Trick-or-Treaters," or whatever strikes your fancy. Add a bewitching fog by putting a tub of dry ice behind a tombstone, and decorate the graveyard with plastic spiders and synthetic webs.

-- Flesh out your jack-o'-lantern display by attaching bodies to the heads. Stuff newspapers into plastic garbage bags, then dress the bags in old family clothes. You can also carve a bushel of pumpkins and place them strategically around the yard (leaning against tombstones, perched on rocks, etc.) and front porch.

-- String Halloween lights from your front door to the party room, then use colored lightbulbs to cast an eerie pall on your guests. A black light can create an other-worldly glow, especially with a flicker switch, and well-placed candles can provide ideal dim lighting for haunting horrors and other party pranks.

-- Gruesome grub can add a gleefully morbid tone. In the right light, a large bowl of spaghetti and meat sauce can pass for blood and guts, and a jar of peeled green grapes can look a lot like an assortment of eyeballs. And serving red wine or adding (non-toxic) red dye to the punch can quench the thirst of vampires.

-- As a finishing touch, deck your halls with creepy designs: glow-in-the-dark skeletons; cobwebs lined with spiders; construction-paper bats suspended by fishing line; window decals of witches, goblins, black cats and other ghostly images; cadavers that pop out to greet guests when they open doors; rooms shrouded in dry-ice fog; and grisly jack-o'-lanterns.

The only limits to your Halloween decorations are those you impose upon yourself, which might depend on the age range of your ghosts, er, guests. As AP9 GalleriaUSA members know, you can save on home decorations, home entertainment and much more through the program. Happy haunting!

New Laptop Cooling Stand Website Launches; Also Debuts New Blog

New Laptop Cooling Stand Website Launches; Also Debuts New Blog

While it's certainly one of the most convenient inventions in the last three decades, the laptop has also had an adverse affect on people by causing burns and contributing to carpal tunnel syndrome. New website LaptopsCooler. com carries a line of laptop cooling stands that will allow people to use their notebook computers without the fear of burns.

Green Bay, WI (PRWEB) July 6, 2009 -

These days, technology is moving quickly and more people are finding that they can't go anywhere without their laptops. All the while, the easy accessibility of wireless internet (Wi-Fi) has made online surfing available for anyone provided they have a communication device of some sort. One of the downsides to using a laptop, however, is how quickly the bottom will heat (and possibly burn) the users' legs.

Several well documented reports have indicated that not only do laptops overheat and burn people, but they can also cause fires as well. For this, constant laptop users should try typing www. LaptopsCooler. com in the address bar.

Specializing in a multifaceted laptop cooling desk, LaptopsCooler. com is an independently run web store operated by Miles and Krista Cornell.

"These are crucial for people who are always on the go," said Miles.

"How often have you used a laptop and found yourself taking it off your lap moments later because it's too hot?" asked Krista. "I know several people to whom it's happened to."

The Cornells - who launched the website in May 2009 - carry a line of potable laptop cooling stands that can be used anywhere, from park benches to airport seats.

Though the couple has a specific focus, they also plan on expanding their current product line.

"We're going to concentrate on laptop coolers, though not all of them will be stands. We are going to expand, though," said Miles.

Along with providing top notch products, LaptopsCooler. com has its own blog, which has just debuted.

"We're going to write at length about the different aspects of the laptop," Krista said of www. Everything-Laptop. com. "For example, we've recently done a post about preventing laptop theft at the airport. We're really trying to provide as much helpful information as possible and not just about cooling."

As the website begins to grow and more people find how crucial a laptop cooler stand is to personal health, LaptopsCooler. com will no doubt become one of the most bookmarked e-stores on the internet.

PetRefresh®, Chemical-Free, Natural Bottled Water for Pets, Goes Global

PetRefresh®, Chemical-Free, Natural Bottled Water for Pets, Goes Global

PetRefresh®, the first bottled water created for pets is gaining international attention. A shipment of almost 11,000 bottles of the patent-pending water was recently sent by Springmill Products, Inc. to Singapore. Distribution to Korea and UK is also being arranged.

Everett, WA (PRWEB) June 28, 2004

When Bill Fels founded Springmill Products Inc. (SPI) and began marketing PetRefresh®, the first chemical-free, natural, bottled water for pets, he was thinking of the potential of the approximately 60 million cats and dogs in the U. S. population.

But to his surprise, Fels’ message of healthy water for pets has generated interest beyond U. S. borders, and PetRefresh® is rapidly becoming a global product.

The first shipment of PetRefresh® left for Singapore on June 15, 2004 with 10944 bottles in the 2-liter and 591 milliliter sizes. The shipment included new flavors Parsley-chlorophyll, aimed at pet breath problems; and a fish-flavored water (using preservative-free Orange Roughy), which is targeted to the feline crowd. SPI’s chicken and natural-flavor varieties were also included.

William Ho, a dog breeder and pet product distributor in Singapore, will be SPIÂ’s distributor for a region that includes Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

Ho contacted SPI after researching the handful of companies that currently offer bottled water for dogs. “PetRefresh® was the one that took the pet’s health most seriously. The others seemed to be making something of a joke about it. And PetRefresh® is the only one for cats and other pets also. When I spoke with Bill I knew his mission was getting the healthiest water for pets. As someone who loves and shows my dogs, I knew I could work with him”

Mr. Ho has talked with retailers in his area and has been assured the market is ready for PetRefresh®. “People here think of their pets as family and want to give them high-quality natural products,” he explains.

For many of the same reasons, Darleen Kuba, well-known in CA political circles and owner of Kuba Associates, a noted CA lobbying firm, has signed on with SPI to handle distribution in Korea.

Kuba was watching the evening news, which featured a story on PetRefresh®. “As a person who believes in maintaining my personal vitality and health, I feel it's equally important to share these values with an important member of my family - my little Scruffy,” she explains.

Kuba contacted Fels, obtained the water and tried it, and was sold. “With PetRefresh®, Scruffy gets valuable minerals and vitamins, as well as proper hydration with clean and pure water. Her vitality and glistening coat confirm that PetRefresh® is providing an important source of nutrients for her,” notes Kuba. “Plus, she loves the taste.”

Kuba is developing the distribution channel in Korea for the product.

Alex Cullen, president of Scot Pet Foods, Ltd., Glasgow, UK, is working with Fels to arrange details for the licensing of PetRefresh® in the UK. Cullen is a manufacturer and distributor of natural pet treats that are sold through various U. K grocery chains. Cullen believes PetRefresh® is “bound to be a success.”

The overseas interest, none of which was solicited by SPI, took Fels by surprise. “It’s wonderful, but I planned on launching a new flavor, Grandma Duffy’s Old Fashioned Flea and Tick Repeller, this summer. Instead, I’m filling orders and looking for a bigger bottling plant,” he says, laughing.

About Springmill Products, Inc.

SPI is a privately held company. Its patent-pending PetRefresh® was introduced to the Seattle area in March, 2003. Unlike tap water, no chemicals are used in the sterilization process for PetRefresh®. SPI’s three-step purification process uses ultraviolet light, ozone, and selective micronfiltration to allow PetRefresh® to deliver water packed with vital nutrients pets need. These nutrients are eliminated in tap water and filtered water for humans.

Fels came upon the idea after he noticed his dog, Jason, wasn’t drinking tap water. Fels developed “Jason’s water” and began giving bottles away to friends and neighbors to use for their pets. The local response was so positive that PetRefresh® was born.

Fels says his basic argument is based on the fact that 50% of the population drinks bottled water. “My thought was that if your water tastes bad to you, how does it taste to your pet? And how healthy is it?”

Anchor Health Properties Purchases the Innovative Health & Wellness Center by Doylestown Hospital

Anchor Health Properties Purchases the Innovative Health & Wellness Center by Doylestown Hospital

The award-winning Health & Wellness Center by Doylestown Hospital has been purchased by Anchor Health Properties, the developer of the facility, and a joint venture partner. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Wilmington, DE (PRWEB) April 1, 2008

The award-winning Health & Wellness Center by Doylestown Hospital has been purchased by Anchor Health Properties, the developer of the facility, and a joint venture partner. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Anchor, which has established a distinguished national track record for bringing the strengths of the retail experience to the healthcare consumer and their communities, was the original developer of the facility and has been the Property Manager at the Health & Wellness Center since it opened to the public in the summer of 2001.

"With the Health & Wellness Center, Doylestown Hospital wanted an outpatient building that would open new markets and increase market share," said Paula Crowley, Chief Executive Officer of Anchor. "The project has succeeded far beyond expectations, notably with first-year revenues that outpaced projections by nearly seven times. Since it opened in 2001, patient satisfaction scores are consistently very high. Now, with our ownership of the Health & Wellness Center, we will provide the physician tenants with the opportunity to invest in the building."

"The building has been an overwhelming success in meeting its mission and continues to be very well recognized," said Scott Levy, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Doylestown. "We first became familiar with Anchor Health Properties through the development of the center almost a decade ago. From the beginning, it was obvious that Anchor was more than simply a partner to build projects. The company understood the culture of Doylestown and what we wanted."

The 120,000 square foot Health & Wellness Center includes hospital outpatient services, physician office suites and amenities such as a fitness center, café, pharmacy and spa that complement the project's healing environment. There are also healing gardens and a labyrinth, a wellness boutique, traditional and auditorium style conference space. The Health & Wellness Center has become a landmark in the community over the past seven years, with the building hosting not only health and wellness seminars but also weddings, parties and other special events for the community.

"The project's success stems from the right mix of services, which have been merchandised under Anchor's guidance for maximum impact," Crowley said. "Orthopedics, cardiac rehab and physical therapy are integrated with a community fitness center, generating both cost savings and additional revenues. Pediatric medical and dental care share child-minding and waiting space in a family-friendly arrangement."

The services at the Health & Wellness Center flow together in surroundings designed according to feng shui principles, with plenty of natural light. A central atrium with a koi pond and waterfall flows to an interior garden, bringing soothing grace to the surroundings.

You Have a Bad Attitude--How One Turn in Attitude Can Make the Difference in Your Success, Just Pivot

You Have a Bad Attitude--How One Turn in Attitude Can Make the Difference in Your Success, Just Pivot

Did you know that your attitude is the number one determining factor to your success?

Nolensville, TN (PRWEB) February 27, 2006

Your attitude is the number one determining factor to your success. You can trace just about everything you achieve or don’t achieve back to your attitude, says Dr. Alan R. Zimmerman in his new book, Pivot.

“Your attitude, even more than your aptitude, determines your altitude.” In Pivot, Zimmerman cites a study by Dr. Martin Seligman who discovered attitude is a better predictor of success than I. Q., education, grade point average or almost any other factor. He found that people with positive attitudes stay healthier, have better relationships, and go further in their careers.

"Everyone knows they’re supposed to have a positive attitude. That’s old news. The problem is most people don’t know how to get and keep a positive attitude. I wrote " PIVOT" to provide a roadmap for people –to tell them exactly what they had to do to get rid of a negative attitude and to have a positive one," said Zimmerman.

Your attitude is the key to success and happiness. It's not only important, it’s absolutely critical, says Zimmerman.

"Attitude is the number one factor in success. With the right attitude, you can accomplish amazing kinds of things. Just look at the Olympics. There are hundreds of gold medalists who overcame tremendous difficulties…but went on to win…because they had the right attitude. By the same token, there are millions of talented people who never achieve much of anything because they have a negative attitude holding them back," he said.

When it comes to happiness, attitude is the number one contributing factor. A person simply cannot be happy if he/she is saddled with a negative attitude.

There are three main components in adopting a positive attitude. First, you must know how vitally important a positive attitude is. It’s not just a sweet, Pollyannaish little concept that is nice to have. It’s a foundational requirement for all future success and happiness.

Second, you must know how to get rid of the negativity that may be residing in your mind and holding you back.

And third, you must know what steps to take and which skills to practice so you develop a positive attitude that never lets you down.

What can I do to stop my negative attitudes?

First of all, recognize the fact that they are hurting you. Your negative attitudes literally damage your health, your motivation, your relationships, and just about everything else.

Second, when you find yourself thinking negatively, immediately stop yourself. Literally, tell your mind to “STOP IT.” And with practice, your mind will obey your command.

Zimmerman says that he has spent over 30 years researching how to have a successful life or a life of excellence. He says there are six factors: Self-Esteem, Purpose, Goals, Attitude, Risk, and Balance. All the factors can be mastered, and in fact, that is a major focus in my two-day seminar called “The Journey to the Extraordinary.”

How do I start increasing my odds of a successful future? Start working on your self-esteem. One of the basic principles in psychology says you perform exactly as you see yourself. When you see yourself in a more positive light, when you polish your self-image, when you increase your self-confidence, your success increases as well. That’s why I devoted an entire chapter to Self-Esteem in PIVOT.

In Pivot, Dr. Zimmerman introduces you to a simple nine-step life changing plan.

This plan will lead you to:

Develop a consistent positive attitude  Choose your mental strategy  Curb any negativity blocking your success  Improve your confidence  Build Stronger Relationship  Experience an instant boost in enthusiasm  Make every day a successful day  Stop Worrying  Overcome Failure

“Most people don’t know what a “positive mental attitude” really is, or how to create and maintain it-no matter what is going on around them,” says Zimmerman. Pivot is your guide to gaining and maintaining this life changing transformation.

Pivot explains in a step-by-step process how to become “bulletproof “at home and on the job in maintaining your positive mental attitude. Becoming “bulletproof” is actually pretty easy-when you make a few simple turns in your life.

Whether you are struggling with your goals, unmotivated at work, burnt out on bad news or just want to be more energetic and effective, a simple turn in attitude can make all the difference. Pivot can show you how.

To schedule an interview with Dr. Zimmerman or for more information, contact Nanette Noffsinger at 615-776-4230.

Carlos Ferro Presented at International Smalltalk Conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, for Caesar Systems : Smalltalk Programming Gains Ground in Vertical Markets: Health Care, Energy Industry

Carlos Ferro Presented at International Smalltalk Conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, for Caesar Systems : Smalltalk Programming Gains Ground in Vertical Markets: Health Care, Energy Industry

Senior software developer Carlos Ferro of Caesar Systems presented “Automated strategies for decision support in telephone triage” at the European Smalltalk Users Group (ESUG) International Smalltalk Conference, held August 25-29 at the Center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

HOUSTON (PRWEB) August 29, 2008

Ferro presented learnings from a program called ExpertCare, a decision support tool for telephone triage and ambulance dispatch in health care services. ExpertCare is designed to replace static triage rules with a dynamic, adaptive instrument. The project included building a virtual laboratory where patient calls and diagnostic sessions were simulated in trial runs. Ferro will summarize the design of the framework, implementation details of several automatic strategies, and the results of running simulations in a testing environment. Similarities in decision processes and technology between the global energy and the health care industries offer potential benefits from cross-learning. In both industries, professional knowledge and specialized domain expertise run very deep, decision support processes are critical, data is constantly changing, and decision making is fraught with uncertainty and risk. "Smalltalk offers a simple programming environment that provides flexibility both to the programmer and to the software end-user," said Victor Koosh, chief executive officer of Caesar Systems.

Suzanne Fortman of the Smalltalk Industry Council (STIC) said, "Smalltalk development is now mature and is gaining ground in the global energy industry, as well as other vertical markets, such as health care, transportation, and human resources."

Caesar Systems, an early adopter of the Smalltalk programming language in the global oil and gas sector, introduced the PetroVR Toolsuite in 1997. Well positioned to become the industry standard for integrative analyses of oil and gas opportunities worldwide, PetroVR enables rapid business simulation of opportunities for decision making in a fraction of the time previously required. David Nasser, Dave Crowder, Chris Tomlin, Michael and Hayley DiMarco, and Mark Matlock Work With Youth Ministry Leaders on a Video Resource for Teenagers

David Nasser, Dave Crowder, Chris Tomlin, Michael and Hayley DiMarco, and Mark Matlock Work With Youth Ministry Leaders on a Video Resource for Teenagers

Bluefish TV brought top Christian youth ministry leaders David Nasser, Dave Crowder, Chris Tomlin, Michael and Hayley DiMarco, and Mark Matlock together to create three video-driven studies for youth ministry leaders in churches all across the country. This Bible study series is not a typical lecture video but a look at teens telling their real-life stories and struggles.

Richardson, TX (PRWEB) October 12, 2007

Bluefish TV is set to launch their 2008 Youth Ministry Kit (http://www. bluefishtv. com/ProductDetails. aspx? cid=1000&id=1891) to support thousands of churches across the country. Bluefish TV is the largest single producer of video-integrated Bible study for teens.

The team at Bluefish TV partnered with David Nasser, Mark Matlock, Michael and Hayley DiMarco, Chris Tomlin and Dave Crowder to provide Biblical and practical teaching in three video-driven series for teenagers.

David Nasser (http://www. bluefishtv. com/ProductDetails. aspx? cid=1000&id=1976) speaks yearly to over 700,000 people through ministries such as Youth Specialties, Student Life, The Billy Graham Evangelistic Team, Acquire the Fire, and many others. This year, he is the featured teacher on the Bluefish TV study called I AM Getting to Know God. This study offers hope and encouragement to teens who are struggling to see how God is at work in their life.

Michael & Hayley DiMarco (http://www. bluefishtv. com/ProductDetails. aspx? cid=1000&id=1977) have authored numerous bestselling books including Dateable, Marriable and Technical Virgin. In the study, Sex. Dating. the DiMarco's helped tee up relevant topics like boundaries and the roles of guys and girls.

Teen vs. Parents is a study led by Mark Matlock (http://www. bluefishtv. com/ProductDetails. aspx? cid=1000&id=1975). Mark speaks to thousands of students each year through his Planet Wisdom conferences. In this study, Mark takes the pressure off living up to the myth of a perfect family and helps students repair and build healthy relationships with their parents.

The three studies in this kit include transparent, emotional interviews with leading Christian musicians like David Crowder and Chris Tomlin (http://www. bluefishtv. com/Products. aspx? cid=1000) as well as over 20 teenagers from across the country.

A survey conducted by the Barna Research Group discovered that 83% of teens maintain that moral truth depends on the circumstances, and only 6% believe that moral truth is absolute. In this age of uncertainty, youth ministry leaders are looking for resources to guide teenagers toward Biblical truth. Each of these Bluefish Bible studies includes 2 DVDs and a Leader's Guide with 4 weeks of Bible study lessons to guide small groups.

Bluefish TV has produced youth group video-based resources for over 92,000 churches of all sizes and across denominational lines. Ron Hullet, a youth ministry leader from Texas writes, "I've been a youth pastor for 22 years, and I've looked at lots and lots of youth STUFF. We show your (BluefishTV's) awesome videos to our youth group on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. They hear testimonies from real people and receive quality teaching from other very respected youth ministry leaders... We see the lights come on in their minds, and lives are changing!"

PAC Herbs Knocks Out Sleepless Nights With Its New Product, iSleep Herb Pac

ISleep Herb Pac's are 100% natural, non-habit forming, and improve sleep patterns while simultaneously giving users a restful night's sleep.

Los Angles, CA (PRWEB) October 5, 2009

PAC Herbs announced today the release of its new product, iSleep Herb Pac, created to help calm the mind and maintain restful sleep. Made from all-natural Chinese medicinal herbs iSleep users wake up feeling alert with no signs of grogginess or lethargy.

"Sleep is the body's restoration medicine. Without a good night's sleep it's very difficult to function day in and day out," Cathy Margolin, PAC Herbs founder, Herbalist, Acupuncturist, L. Ac. Dip. OM, MTOM, BBA, BA said. "We seem to be working under so much stress, it negatively impacts our sleep, which then impacts the rest of our health. That is why I created iSleep."

Restorative sleep is an essential part of a normal, healthy, balanced life. iSleep Herb Pac is not a drug and requires no prescription and should be used to aid occasional insomnia. The formula is non-addictive and is made from Chinese herbs that have been used for centuries to repair the body's natural balance.

This breakthrough sleep aid has been used for centuries in Asia. Studies proving effectiveness and safety have been thoroughly reviewed and conclusively prove our plant medicinals will help users sleep without becoming habit forming. iSleep provides a calming effect to quiet thoughts. When the mind is quiet the body can enjoy a restful night's sleep. Unique to iSleep is the packaging, the herb quality and the extensive testing of the raw products. Packaging in individual packets insures herbs retain their freshness and potency, compared to herbs in capsules, which degrade through exposure to air and moisture. PAC Herbs are processed in a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical facility, which performs over 200 tests on its raw materials to insure herbs are free of possible contaminants. We guarantee that our products work or you get your money back.

ISleep can be taken in the middle of the night or before bedtime for difficulty going to sleep or staying asleep. Dissolve iSleep in warm water and drink as a tea, or place directly on the tongue and swallow. iSleep is fast acting and generally takes effect within 30 minutes. iSleep comes pre-measured and packed in 20-individual servings to ensure quality and freshness and can be purchased for $24.95 online at http://www. pacherbs. com (http://www. pacherbs. com).

Chinese herbal medicine encompasses Acupuncture, Chinese herb formulas and medical massage and has been the primary medicine in Asia for thousands of years. It's become more widespread in the U. S. in the last 10 years. Research in prestigious Western peer-reviewed journals such Journal of the American Medical Association and the Annals of Internal Medicine regularly publish studies proving the effectiveness of Acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Today as the Western world searches for safe, effective and affordable medicine, integrating Chinese herbs is a natural fit. In 2007 alone, Americans spent 33 billion dollars on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), most of which was not covered by their health insurance plans. CAM is becoming more mainstream in America every day.

Cambridge Healthtech Institute Announces its Second Annual "The Bioprocessing Summit"

Cambridge Healthtech Institute Announces its Second Annual "The Bioprocessing Summit"

Practical Solutions for Today's Laboratory Challenges

Needham, MA (PRWEB) June 30, 2010

Practical solutions and protocols will once again be exchanged at Cambridge Healthtech Institute's second annual "The Bioprocessing Summit " taking place August 23-26, 2010, in Boston. The four meetings comprising the event (Optimizing Cell Culture Technology, Affinity Tag Protein Purification, Optimizing Mammalian Cell Lines, and Baculovirus Technology) will address bioprocess challenges ranging from cell line and clone selection to scale-up and affinity tag purification. The Summit will bring together leaders in the field to present the most helpful information for those working with insect and mammalian cells, expressing proteins, and creating cell-based products.

"In this age of rapid innovation, it's critical to keep up with advances and trends, and to exchange ideas with international colleagues. This event is designed to provide insights that optimize tasks at the bench with an emphasis on 'real-world' experience," says Mary Ruberry, Conference Director of Cambridge Healthtech Institute.

John Mott, Director of Cell Line Development & Global Biologics at Pfizer, will kick off the sixth annual "Optimizing Cell Culture Technology" meeting with a focus on CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary). The agenda is chock-full of expert strategies and insights such as optimizing the culture environment through cell corpse clearance, using DOE ("Design of Experiments") to improve cell culture conditions, and improving bioreactor performance with dynamic membrane aeration.

The second annual "Affinity Tag Protein Purification" meeting explores the world of affinity tags - the benefits and drawbacks of each - including alternative affinity methods. Breakthrough techniques will be discussed including photocleavable tags, autoprocessing tags, epitope tags, and overcoming cleavage challenges.

Transfection, Electroporation and Clone Screening highlight the second annual "Optimizing Mammalian Cell Lines" meeting including site specificity and phototransfection. Joseph Shiloach, Chief of the Biotechnology Unit at NIDDK/NIH, will initiate the discussion of cell line development by addressing the use of microarrays to modify cellular properties.

The baculovirus system has achieved widespread recognition and use, as illustrated in the fourth annual "Baculovirus Technology" meeting with sessions focused on Screening, Vector Design, Protein Expression, and Vaccine Development. Seminal talks on biological properties will be presented by Paul Friesen from the University of Wisconsin, James Groarke from Novartis, and Gary Blissard of Cornell.

Along with the main conference sessions, three workshops will be presented to allow a more in-depth focus on important topics, such as Optimizing Cell Culture Media, Affinity Tag Purification Systems, and using E. coli for protein expression and purification. This year's Exhibit Hall will feature an expanding number of exhibit booths and extensive poster presentations.

"Rocket Mom!" Author Carolina Fernandez is Panelist for Suburban New York Moms Marching towards Mother's Day

"Rocket Mom!" Author Carolina Fernandez is Panelist for Suburban New York Moms Marching towards Mother's Day

Critics call today's motherhood everything from a “trap” to a “cult” to a “myth” to a "mess," turning notions about our role upside down and leaving moms everywhere confused and conflicted. Moms at home raising children today are there because we view our job as the most important one ever invented. Author Carolina Fernandez will use this panel opportunity to help New York moms celebrate motherhood.

(PRWEB) April 30, 2005

Carolina Fernandez, author of the parenting best-seller, "Rocket Mom!" Seven Strategies To Blast You Into Brilliance will be serving as a panelist for the pre-Mother's Day Event: “What do I want to be now that the kids are growing up?” Lively discussion addressing various options available for highly educated, highly successful moms in the suburban New York City area (Westchester and Fairfield Counties)will provide the venue.

Controversy about motherhood is nothing new. Thousands of books, articles and commentaries have been written about our dilemmas ad nauseam. As if forty-and fifty something moms haven’t wrestled long enough with their career-parenting decisions, young moms get additional fuel for their fires with glaring mainstream media headlines—just in time for Mother’s Day. Throw in a new poll or two—as well as more advice and analysis by traditional parenting “experts”—M. D.’s and Ph. D.’s—and you have more psychobabble than the baby-burble running down these sleep-deprived mommy’s sleeves!

Articles like the New York Times “The Opt-Out Revolution”; best-sellers like Perfect Madness: Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety; and critics calling motherhood everything from a “trap” to a “cult” to a “myth” to a "mess," turn notions about our role upside down and leave moms everywhere confused and conflicted.

• Author/journalist Judith Warner of Perfect Madness fame claims that: “a substantial number of GenX moms (are) too focused on perfection, too focused on their children, too competitive with one another, and that it’s driving all moms crazy and providing their kids with no benefits.” She asserts that there’s an “oppressive culture of ‘total motherhood’ that “leaves no room for mothers’ own interests” with “suffocation” the direct result.

• Sumru Erkut of the Center for Research on Women at Wellesley College, asserts that: societal expectations for moms have been “racheted up by professional moms who’ve ‘upgraded motherhood to a bigger job than it used to be’” and views these moms as having “misplaced vigor.”

• New York Times book critic Judith Shulevitz, commenting on Warner (who said that motherhood has gone from “art” to “cult”) calls the job a “mess” and motherhood a “trap powered by fear of a loss of face.”

Hold onto your pantyhose. These journalists didnÂ’t finish their homework. "Rocket Mom!" author Fernandez examined the evidence and boldly challenges their assertions:

• A brand new poll (April 25) by ClubMom reveals that 63% of moms admit to feeling no pressure to live up to a “society-driven version of the ‘perfect mom.’”

• 51% of those GenXer’s they’re talking about have traded super careers for motherhood because when they viewed the trade-offs required to “gun” their own careers (and through direct observation of their own working moms), they decided that the sacrifices required just weren’t worth it.

• 79% of moms overall rate their own sense of well-being an “A” or “B”; 84% believe they are able to keep their minds sharp and active; and 76% rate their overall health (mental and physical) as high.

• In stark contrast to the “trap” or “mess” that these experts call motherhood, polls find that only 10% of working moms would choose to work full-time if money were no object.

• Of Harvard Business School’s women graduates of ’81, ’85, and ’91—women currently in the fortysomething crowd—only 38% are working full-time.

• 26% of women at the cusp of the most senior levels of management do not want that next promotion, choosing more time at home with family over career advancement.

The job is huge, it is vitally important, and those of us on the frontlines know it. Moms at home raising children today are there because we view our job as the most important one ever invented. Fernandez coined the phrase “Rocket Mom” in an effort to “put motherhood with excellence back on the map.” Immediately after every media interview, emails pour in from moms acknowledging not only the depth and breadth of the job; they affirm appreciation for her fresh, bold voice which upholds with unapologetic optimism the distinct role we mothers play in shaping human destiny. If that’s called “over parenting” or a “myth” or a “cult” or a “trap” or a “mess,” than somebody better wake up and flip the pancakes. Fernandez will use this panel opportunity to help New York moms celebrate motherhood. Just in time for May 8th.

Join Fernandez on Tuesday, May 3, 7-9 PM at St. Stephen’s Church, Rector Hall, 351 Main St., Ridgefield, CT 06877. Carolina Fernandez is available for media interviews by arrangement. "Rocket Mom!" Has already been featured on: Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto” and dozens of radio stations across the U. S.

To schedule an interview with Carolina Fernandez, please call 203.942.8282 or email: emomrx@yahoo. com. Online press kit: www. rocketmom. com.
