Chase Park Plaza Previews Fitness and Wellness Center

Chase Park Plaza Previews Fitness and Wellness Center

Future residents and club members foretaste $2.5 million addition to The Chase Park Plaza -- Santé.

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) November 4, 2007

The developers of The Chase Park Plaza announced the name and detailed plans last night for a high-end, state-of-the-art fitness and wellness club. Being built with an investment of nearly $2.5 million, Santé, slated to open in February, "will be more than a workout facility; it will be a retreat to balance mind and body," said Santé Fitness Director Joy Rowberry.

St. Louis VIPs had an exclusive first look at the center's renderings and drawings last night. The invitation-only celebration represented the first opportunity for prospective members to preview the center's exceptional programs and services and to receive early reservation incentives.

"We knew that we wanted to brand the new wellness facility with the same level of service, quality and excellence as one would expect with an event, hotel stay or living at The Chase Park Plaza," said Marcia Smith Niedringhaus, one of the developers of The Private Residences at The Chase Park Plaza, the hotel and now Santé. She then raised a toast for Santé, which means "to your health."

To provide future members with a glimpse of what awaits them, the team will host a membership open house Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. Interested members can take advantage of a limited number of charter memberships, which will be offered at especially favorable rates. An exclusive offer to charter members is the limited-availability platinum membership option. In addition to the benefits of traditional membership, including access to the club, daily locker, validated free parking, guest privileges and all of the programs and services provided by the professional fitness and wellness team, platinum members will have free valet parking, a permanent locker, laundry service for workout attire and extended guest privileges. A corporate membership option will also be offered.

Santé, with its exquisite 18,000-square-foot design, will offer personal lifestyle assessments, personal fitness training, personal Pilates sessions, nutritional counseling, luxurious locker rooms and amenities, group exercise studios, a variety of group classes including Pilates, yoga and cycling and massage services. Fitness classes such as marathon training and "boot camp" will make extensive use of nearby Forest Park.

"Santé will complement the hotel services and offer another unprecedented amenity for The Private Residences at The Chase Park Plaza," said Smith Niedringhaus. "Just as enjoying a glass of fine wine involves all five senses; Santé will engage and balance not only the senses but the mind, body and spirit."

The facility is being built in collaboration with Meritage Healthcare Strategies for market research, business planning and facility development; MPowerSolutions for training of membership advisors; Club & Spa Synergy Group for membership integration; and Toky Branding + Design for branding and marketing.

More information on Santé is available at http://www. santechase. com (http://www. santechase. com).

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) August 24, 2009

For the second year, Evan Y. Liu, M. D., J. D., of the Philadelphia personal injury law firm (http://www. feldmanshepherd. com) Feldman, Shepherd, Wohlgelernter, Tanner, Weinstock & Dodig provided minority college students with an inside look at the practice of law during Widener University School of Law's Jurist Academy summer program. On June 8, 2009, Liu presented a seminar on "pathways to a career in law - a glimpse from a non-traditional student," to the rising juniors, who hailed from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in U. S. law schools. The goal of the annual Jurist Academy program is to increase participation of underrepresented groups in law school by breaking down educational and informational barriers and facilitating exposure to legal career options. A former emergency physician, Dr. Liu concentrates his practice in medical malpractice and product liability (http://www. feldmanshepherd. com/17-practice-Product-Liability. php).

"I am pleased to participate in a program that encourages minority students to consider law school and subsequent legal careers," said Dr. Liu. "Widener is to be commended for reaching out to these students, who benefit greatly from an in-depth look at our profession as well as the process of applying to and enjoying success in law school."

Dr. Liu serves as co-chair of the Community Outreach Committee of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania. He is an active member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice (formerly the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association), the Philadelphia Bar Association and the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association. A 2006 graduate of Widener Law, Dr. Liu regularly serves as a guest lecturer at the school, addressing topics such as the MCARE and Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor acts, patient safety, medical malpractice and the effects of malpractice litigation on physician behavior.

Prior to being admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Dr. Liu practiced emergency medicine in the Delaware Valley for 15 years. He was also a board certified family practitioner, the assistant director of Delaware County Memorial Hospital's emergency department and a clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Widener Law's Jurist Academy is offered free to college students who have completed their sophomore year, earned a 2.8 or better cumulative grade point average and are members of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in law school. A stipend of $500 per week is available to participants who fully attend and participate in the program. Jurist Academy students experience the dynamics of a law school classroom, meet lawyers and judges and learn about the admissions process and life at law school. Students also practice their oral argument, analytic and test-taking skills. Further information is available through Widener Law's Web site.

(PRWEB) November 6, 2005

According to I-Humidifiers. com, we require a certain amount of moisture in the air. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), that amount is 30 to 50 percent. If the humidity level in our home is less than that, we suffer the effects of dry air. Nosebleeds, cough, dry skin, itchy eyes… those are all potential effects of low humidity. Even our home itself isn’t immune to problems cause by dry air. Low humidity can cause cracked paint, dry furniture, peeling wallpaper, and brittle wood.

Humidifiers help alleviate these problems by putting moisture in the air. There are several types of humidifiers, but they all do one basic thing: circulate water through the air. The Ultrasonic humidifier works by using high-frequency sound vibrations into a very fine mist and sending it into the air without heating the air. With an ultrasonic humidifier, there is no danger of steam burns because the water is cool.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have recently expressed concerns that ultrasonic humidifiers can disperse microorganisms and minerals into the air. However, they have not concluded that this poses a significant health risk.

I-Humidifiers. com reminds us that in using an ultrasonic humidifier, steps should be taken to avoid any potential problems with microorganism and mineral dispersement. For example, water should be changed daily to avoid any growth of microorganisms. The water tank should be cleaned and disinfected regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions. To avoid the risk of mineral deposits being sent into the air, use water with a lower mineral content. Distilled water is excellent for this purpose.

National Non-Profit Organization Provides a Community of Emotional Support to Non-Custodial Moms

National Non-Profit Organization Provides a Community of Emotional Support to Non-Custodial Moms

The National Association of Non-Custodial Moms, the first organization of its kind, offers support to the small minority of women who completely understand what non-custodial fathers go through.

Clermont, FL (PRWEB) February 21, 2006

The National Association of Non-Custodial Moms, Inc. (NANCM), an organization dedicated to providing a community of emotional support to non-custodial mothers through the provision of educational and supportive resources, believes children have a right to have both fit and loving parents included in their lives as equally as possible. Being a fit and loving parent doesn't necessarily mean being the parent who has the most money or who fights hardest in court. Sometimes the most loving parent is the one that doesn't want to put the children through an emotionally draining court battle and more often times than not, the parent that chooses this route is the mother.

Having received their non-profit 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service, NANCM views this next phase as an opening of many doors such as affiliating with other like-minded organizations; namely the Children’s Rights Council (CRC). NANCM founder and president, Beverly Morris is a strong advocate for children’s rights, co-parenting, and educating parents on the importance of not placing their children in the middle of adult matters, despite what society norms dictate. NANCM and the CRC, sharing a common goal, hope that education on the problems most face after divorce or separation will help parents focus more on their children and not on personal vendettas against their former spouse.

With over 200 members, NANCM continues to grow by an average of 5 new members a week. The main characteristic of a new member is jubilance over finding such an organization. "For many of us, NANCM has become as much an integral part of our life as breathing”, says NANCM Member, Tanya Bollin of Tennessee. “Being dedicated to bringing children and parents together is one of the most commendable acts that anyone can undertake. NANCM gives us the strength we need to continue towards our goal of not only having our children in our life, but having meaningful relationships with them as well."

While NANCM is for women, the first organization of its kind, Beverly points out that “Yes, we are the National Association of Non-Custodial Moms, but we are the small minority of women who completely understand what non custodial fathers go through”. In her research Beverly found an abundance of organizations dedicated to the perspective of non-custodial fathers and soon realized the need for a similar outreach for women in which they would not feel like the minority. NANCM also consists of sisters, brothers, aunts, mothers and grandparents of non-custodial parents who are also, at times, affected as deeply as the non-custodial parents themselves.

NANCM is welcoming of all non-custodial parents, not just the mothers, believing that there is no place for gender bias in custodial or non-custodial situations. In keeping with that vision NANCM is instituting plans to open up safe drop off sites for parents to utilize during visitation exchanges, co-parenting classes, and is seeking out charitable affiliations with organizations that can help lessen the burden of maintaining a healthy relationship between both parents and their children.

For more information and/or to arrange an interview with a NANCM representative, please contact Beverly Morris. Non-custodial parents are encouraged to learn more about NANCM, Inc. including their first annual National Convention scheduled for June of 2006, by visiting http://www. nancm. org (http://www. nancm. org).

NexCore Group Breaks Ground on $52 Million Medical Services Building in New Lenox, IL

NexCore Group Breaks Ground on $52 Million Medical Services Building in New Lenox, IL

Top healthcare real estate company NexCore Group developing, leasing, financing, owning, and managing innovative Medical Services Building connected to replacement hospital

New Lenox, IL, and Denver, CO (Vocus) September 14, 2010

NexCore Group (NexCore) will break ground on a six-story, 182,000-SF integrated Medical Services Building (MSB) on the new Silver Cross Hospital (SCH) campus in New Lenox, IL, on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010. A special ceremony will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 p. m. on the grounds of the hospital’s replacement campus currently under construction at the I-355/US Route 6 interchange in New Lenox. Part of the overall development of a $400 million, 76-acre replacement hospital campus, the MSB plays a key role in realizing the hospital’s and physicians’ vision of providing comprehensive, outpatient care to a service area that includes the tenth-fastest growing county in the U. S.

“Since the early stages of this project it has been clear that the MSB would play a vital role in creating a campus with highly integrated inpatient and outpatient services that will best serve this region. Now with a substantial number of leases already signed, it’s exciting to see this important part of our replacement campus starting construction,” says Bill Brownlow, CFO of Silver Cross Hospital. “We’re looking forward to late 2011 when the new MSB will open.”

Connected to the new hospital on three levels including the main lobby, the MSB will share many of the hospital’s amenities including concierge, outdoor serenity garden, valet parking, and physician-dedicated parking. The new building is also connected to an adjacent medical office building through a shared lobby, easing movement of patients and staff across all buildings and facilitating the sharing of services. The MSB will feature a Walgreen’s pharmacy through the shared lobby to enhance patient convenience.

The MSB will house 70,000 SF of hospital services on the two lower floors and 112,000 SF of physician office space on four upper floors. The four floors of physician space will provide more efficient office layouts and built-in technology expansion capabilities for practices moving from the old campus. New practices bringing complementary services not currently offered by SCH will also lease space in the MSB.

National healthcare real estate (http://www. nexcoregroup. com) firm NexCore Group is providing strategic planning, financing, development, ownership, leasing, and property/asset management services for the project. The first of five projects set to begin between late 2010 and 2011, the MSB ground break is the culmination of deliberate preparation on the part of NexCore to position the company and their projects to move quickly upon signs of capital markets thawing. With healthcare reform passed, key debt and equity sources in this specialized financial sector have resumed funding projects with experienced healthcare developers who are able to meet new, stricter pre-leasing requirements. To meet these requirements, NexCore worked with the hospital and designers to incorporate proven medical office building strategies. The company also created pre-leasing incentives to attract physicians to the campus early and meet lenders’ requirements for construction to commence.

Says NexCore president and CEO Greg Venn, “Working closely with SCH and the physician community, we have been able to generate significant excitement about the project and have exceeded our pre-leasing requirements to start construction of this important project. We anticipate substantial occupancy and stabilization by completion of the project 14 months from now, which will coincide with the opening of the hospital in early 2012.”

About Silver Cross Hospital
Since 1895, Silver Cross has grown from a 33-bed, two-story hospital into an impressive healthcare network featuring a 289-bed acute care hospital with a team of 2,500 physicians, employees, and volunteers. Located in one of the fastest growing areas in Illinois—encompassing communities in Will, Grundy, and southwestern Cook Counties—Silver Cross is moving its hospital campus to New Lenox, IL, three miles from its current location, to enhance service lines at a strategic location accessible from several major transportation arterials. The replacement hospital will ensure that Silver Cross can continue its mission of providing quality healthcare to these communities over the next century.

"Flesh-Eating Bacteria' Miracle Survivor is a Doctor, Patient, and a True Believer

"Flesh-Eating Bacteria' Miracle Survivor is a Doctor, Patient, and a True Believer

The true story of a young doctor's battle to survive a fluke 'flesh-eating bacteria' that threatens his life and his faith. The faith of his wife, friends, family made Dr. Craig Collison's survival a matter of faith.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) March 18, 2005

Forget those anonymous newspaper headlines about medical miracles and accompany Dr. Craig Collison, his family, colleagues, and friends, on an incredible journey through his death-defying ordeal with flesh-eating bacteria. When a medical disaster ripped this young doctorÂ’s body and world to shreds, the steadfast faith of his family circle made it whole again.

Collison was completing his residency and awaiting the birth of his third child, when a routine surgery turned into the kind of unique catastrophe that makes medical headlines. The flesh-eating bacteria that was consuming his healthy body could not obliterate CraigÂ’s belief in God, nor shake the faith of his family. CollisonÂ’s wife Michelle put a journal at his bedside for well-wishers, and herself, to write their thoughts in. Entries from that journal punctuate the gripping and dramatic account of how a fluke bacteria transformed Craig from healthy young doctor to critically-ill patient and how his friends and family kept the faith.

Tattered Flesh, Resilient Spirit is the incredible story of the Collison family’s struggle with “flesh-eating” bacteria, a spontaneous and horrible illness that caused massive tissue destruction with deadly and never-ending complications. Raw emotion, both incredible joy and overwhelming sadness, as Michelle’s journal entries take you to the heat of the moment, inject you right into this real-life drama. Their astounding faith in the verses used to try to understand why this happened gives witness to the Spirit at work in our lives, allowing Craig to persevere where so few survive.

WHAT'S MISSING IN THE PATIENT'S BILL OF RIGHTS?

With the Patient's Bill of Rights up for debate right now, it is important that all the issues be brought to the forefront for the benefit all all this bill will affect.

What's Missing in the Patients' Bill of Rights Debate?

Physician's Book "Saving the Soul of Medicine" Describes

Pain and Confusion of Patients and Insiders

Timely Book Delineates Devastation of the Health Care Infrastructure

SAN JOSE, Calif. - July 25, 2001 - As the House of Representatives

Prepares to debate the Patients' Bill of Rights and the pros and cons of

Patients being able to sue their health plans, a significant part of the

Story remains untold. "Saving the Soul of Medicine," written by Dr. Margaret

Mahony, and now in its second printing, offers a variety of essays which

Delineate the devastation of the health care infrastructure.

"Saving the Soul of Medicine" presents real stories and viewpoints of

Patient neglect and confusion, as well as managed care's impact on countless

Numbers of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals who are,

In increasing numbers, exiting the medical field.

"As the House of Representatives begins its debate, we also need to be

Aware that we are on the verge of serious nationwide shortages that will

Negatively impact quality of care profoundly," says Dr. Mahony. "What good

Will it do to be able to sue our health plans if there are not enough doctors

And nurses left to take care of us when we need them?" she asks.

She points to a breaking news story some months ago when California's

KNTV News Channel 11 reported that the well-known and respected Stanford

University Hospital was forced to divert patients to other hospitals for nine

Hours. This incident once more stretched other Bay Area hospitals, many of

Which have also been forced to turn away patients. According to KNTV,

Hospital officials warned that this wasn't just the result of too many sick

People, but was one end result of a massive shortage of nurses and doctors in

The Bay Area. Dr. Mahony believes California has reached a crisis stage. She

Expects other areas of the country to follow.

Stories about the health care crisis are mounting daily, including the

Challenging commentaries in the February 21st issue of the Wall Street

Journal, which featured a 12-page Health and Medicine Report, "Can the System

Be Fixed?" Dr. Mahony hopes the system can be fixed, but believes it must happen soon. She is calling for a

"time out for managed care," and believes the whole system should be

Radically overhauled.

Over recent months, Dr. Mahony has continued to be interviewed and her

Book has been featured on many talk shows around the country. She is also a frequent

Lecturer at various business, professional, and university organizations. For several

Months, she hosted a news series on "Women's Health" on Phoenix Arizona's KFNX radio.

This spring her Opinion piece appeared in the San Jose Mercury News. A

Well-known health care activist, she was one of the leaders in the national

Rescue Health Care Day last spring. A video of her participation is available.

A gynecologist in private practice, Dr. Mahony can be reached at (408)

The desire to share personal information with close friends and family as a way to stay connected is a fundamental part of human nature. Until EnjoyMyMedia, however, sharing personal media online has been too difficult or too public for most people: 74 percent of Americans have never shared personal media online, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project. EnjoyMyMedia and its partners address this powerful unmet need by providing consumers a way to simply and privately broadcast their personal multimedia -- photos, videos, audio, documents or any other file -- over the Internet in live, secure channels to their friends and family.

"People and companies want simple, safe ways to stay in regular touch, and EnjoyMyMedia's new program enables partners and their users to share multimedia without jeopardizing their privacy or dealing with technical hassles such as file size or spam," said Keith Loris, president, CEO and co-founder of EnjoyMyMedia. "By offering the free Private Netcasting service to their visitors, partners make their sites more valuable. And by using Private Netcasting to enhance their communications, they can grow their business by regularly providing rich content to their most loyal users. The program will also expand EnjoyMyMedia's reach to a new set of Private Netcasters."

Bringing Value to Got2Know
Got2Know is a creator and distributor of life-lesson videos for teens and young adults. Its highly trafficked site, www. igot2know. com, categorizes videos into thematic sections such as high school and college life, health and wellness, finance, sports, and technology. With media sharing particularly popular among Got2Know's teen and young adult user demographic, the company is immediately offering visitors the ability to begin using EnjoyMyMedia's free Private Netcasting service. Additionally, Got2Know will employ EnjoyMyMedia as a new distribution system complementary to its Web site. This enables creating opt-in, subscription channels for each section of its video library. Consequently, Got2Know subscribers can receive password-protected video content at popular Web locations such as Facebook and My Yahoo. Finally, Got2Know will provide EnjoyMyMedia to its own video-production partners for their use.

"EnjoyMyMedia provides us exciting growth possibilities," said Lisa Feeley, president and CEO of

Got2Know. "Private Netcasting enhances our existing Web site, expands our distribution and reach, and greatly increases the value we provide our partners by enabling them to independently distribute videos."

How EnjoyMyMedia Works
EnjoyMyMedia lets users share an unlimited amount of personal media. To begin, users download and install free software, the EnjoyMyMedia Transmitter, from www. EnjoyMyMedia. com. They then select folders to "Netcast" and invite their friends and family to subscribe to their channels. When a file is saved or changed in these otherwise normal folders, EnjoyMyMedia automatically updates subscribers' channels, such that a click will always transmit the current media. Subscribers need not install any software and EnjoyMyMedia channels can be accessed on or in Nintendo's Wii, smart phones, My Yahoo, iGoogle, My AOL, Microsoft Vista's Sidebar, Facebook, current Internet browsers or any other RSS-compliant system. If you can save a file or click a link, you can use EnjoyMyMedia.

AirPacks® System Designed to Help Prevent Student Backpack Injuries

AirPacks® System Designed to Help Prevent Student Backpack Injuries

Backpack injuries for young people is increasingly becoming a major problem. AirPacks® backpacks, endorsed by the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations, is part of the solution.

Osceola, Wisconsin (PRWEB) March 11, 2006

School nurses, emergency room physicians, chiropractors and physical therapists alike have noted that back and neck injuries have been on the rise among kids in recent years. The culprit, they’ve found, are bulky and overloaded backpacks.

As the traditional school locker fades into obscurity – due to rising security concerns – the burden of lugging around heavy textbooks and supplies is falling directly on the shoulders of the school children. Injuries are resulting.

“As childhood is a key time for spinal growth and development, many health care providers are concerned that these repetitive and preventable injuries may lead to long-term health problems later on in life,” according to Phil Mattison, president of Core Products, which has the exclusive license for marketing the AirPacks System in the Healthcare and Specialty Retail industries.

“Heavy backpacks have an obstructive impact on the posture and spinal health of children,” says Dr. Jerry DeGrado, National Backpack Safety Chairman of the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations.

The concept for the AirPacks System came from a mother’s simple observation that there are ways to shift the weight off the back and unto the hips and legs, which can better support it. Developed in cooperation with orthopedic professionals and clinically tested, the AirPacks System has been found to reduce backpack-related stress on the body by up to 80 percent and the effective load by up to 50 percent. A study by Northeastern University found that students who switched to AirPacks for six weeks experienced, on average, a 50-percent reduction in pain.

The AirPacks System is distinguished by an ergonomic design, with wide shoulder straps and a lumbar air cushion that transfers the weight of the pack’s contents to the top of the hips. This allows the weight to be carried partially by the body’s structure. The AirPacks come in three sizes – small, medium, and large – so they may be individually fit to the child.

“When properly sized to the child, the AirPacks System actually creates a fulcrum that promotes an upright standing position, improving the child’s posture along with preventing injury,” says Mattison.

With as many as 7,500 students across the country being treated for backpack related injuries each year, according to the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, clinicians, lawmakers and school boards alike have begun to weigh in on the issue. Proposals that have been suggested include school districts issuing separate sets of heavy textbooks for in-school and at-home use, setting maximum weight standards for textbooks, and e-text or online textbook options.

Some proposed solutions, such as the use of rolling backpacks, have been found to present problems of their own, such as creating tripping hazards in the hallways of crowded schools. With school districts facing limited budgets, it is likely that the issue of students being required to carry a large number of books and supplies on a daily basis will continue for the foreseeable future, making preventive measures for protecting their developing spines an important and ongoing concern.

Public interest in self-care products continues to rise as more and more people become aware of the cost effectiveness of prevention. “People are finding that using a system such as AirPacks, together with an understanding of how to properly load the pack is similar to the way that athletes will wrap their ankles prior to a competition,” says Mattison. “Why do athletes go through the trouble of wrapping a perfectly healthy ankle? They do it because they understand that it costs less to prevent an injury than to treat it. The same is true of protecting the back, spine and neck.”

Paving Toward the Future

Paving Toward the Future

An Australian invention could see recycled waste producing an environmentally friendly form of bitumen which would have wide-ranging benefits for our environment, health and local industry. Ecopave Australia has invented a bitumen substitute called GEO320 which is made from plant waste and recycled materials instead of crude oil.

Melbourne (PRWEB) November 8, 2005

An Australian invention could see recycled waste producing an environmentally friendly form of bitumen which would have wide-ranging benefits for our environment, health and local industry.

Ecopave Australia has invented a bitumen substitute called GEO320 which is made from plant waste and recycled materials instead of crude oil.

GEO320 inventor Eerik Owerhall said he came from a family of asphalt-layers, and had seen his grandfather and great-grandfather die as a direct result of ingesting poisonous fumes from bitumen.

Both ancestors were non-smokers, but contracted lung disease at an early age, prompting Mr Owerhall’s search to find a harmless form of bitumen that could also benefit society.

Mr Owerhall said GEO320 was economical to make and cost the same amount as “normal” petroleum-based bitumen.

“We can manufacture GEO320 from molasses (sugar waste) and all sorts of tree resins and waste materials like coconut and palm oil waste and the VTB Bottoms derived in the process of cleaning used motor oils,” Mr Owerhall said.

“And we’ve designed it to incorporate recycled plastics, to help the recycling industries in Australia and around the world.”

Petrochemical (oil-based) bitumen has caused concern in scientific and environmental groups because the United States Geological Survey suggested world crude oil supplies would diminish out of existence by 2100.

In contrast, GEO320 is manufactured from renewable resources, earning the approval of Australia’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which commends projects that are “ecologically sustainable”.

Mr Owerhall said GEO320 also benefited the natural and built environment because it did not contribute to the ‘urban heat island effect’, which is caused by bitumen absorbing heat from the sun.

“Roads are black, and that’s not a good thing for the heat island effect but because GEO320 isn’t black, but light brown, it’s not absorbing so much infra-red or heat,” Mr Owerhall said.

The United States EPA estimated the heat island effect from roads and pavements could raise the temperature of urban areas by up to 6˚C, adding to smog and ozone which affects plant growth and people’s breathing.

With more than 34,000km of roads owned by the Queensland Department of Main Roads alone, black bitumen could be significantly raising the temperature of the state.

As well as absorbing heat, petrochemical bitumen needs to be manufactured, stored and laid at high temperatures, creating a greenhouse effect and damaging the health of road workers.

The extreme heat can burn the bitumen-layers, and the high temperature causes the bitumen to release poisonous fumes.

Research by the European Bitumen Association showed workers who were consistently exposed to bitumen fumes exhibited serious respiratory problems which could contribute to lung cancer.

But GEO320 is made in granulated form, can be stored at ambient temperatures, and laid at much lower temperatures than petrochemical bitumens.

“GEO320 has fumes but they’re not bad for you,” Mr Owerhall said. “It emits water vapour, which isn’t bad for you, and it’s close to zero per cent volatile content so it’s very safe.”

The GEO320 proto-type was tested by ARRB Transport Research to compare its performance properties with normal road bitumen, and the results showed GEO320 was equally, durable, and resistant to fatigue.

The Queensland Department of State Development recently expressed interest in the product, not only for its environmental benefits but also because it could support local industry.

Queensland produces 95 per cent of Australia’s sugar cane, so Canegrowers Queensland was interested in GEO320 because it can be manufactured from molasses.

Canegrowers Queensland senior policy manager Bernard Milford said the new form of bitumen had the potential to generate another source of income for the struggling sugar industry.

“Molasses is normally quite a low-value by-product of manufacturing sugar, and to have some extra demand for it like this is very encouraging,” Mr Milford said.

“It’s very encouraging to know that the waste material that’s being produced from a sugar mill could be used in such an environmentally friendly and interesting product.”

Seniors’ Questions about Reverse Mortgages Answered by CEO of Nation’s Largest Reverse Mortgage Lender

Seniors’ Questions about Reverse Mortgages Answered by CEO of Nation’s Largest Reverse Mortgage Lender

Jim Mahoney, CEO of the nation’s largest reverse mortgage lender, Financial Freedom Senior Funding Corp., answers questions seniors have about reverse mortgages in an interview with NewRetirement. com.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 14, 2006

In an interview (http://www. newretirement. com/Services/Financial_Freedom_CEO_Interview. aspx? source=revmort_FFQAPR) published today on NewRetirement. com (http://www. newretirement. com? source=revmort_FFQAPR), Jim Mahoney, the CEO of Financial Freedom Senior Funding Corp., responds to senior homeowners’ top questions about reverse mortgage loans. Mahoney’s answers reflect years of expertise developed while running Financial Freedom. The company has provided more reverse mortgages to retirees than any other lender in the nation.

Many visitors to NewRetirement. com, an education and advocacy site, are seniors looking for reverse mortgage information. Frequently, they call or email with questions about reverse-mortgages. On behalf of these retirees, NewRetirement. com invited industry pioneer and expert Jim Mahoney to answer several of the most frequently asked questions. These questions range from the straightforward, “what is a reverse mortgage,” to the hopeful, “how much money can I get,” to the concerned, “what happens when I pass my home to my heirs?” In his responses, Mahoney addresses what he considers to be a few ‘myths’ about reverse mortgages, including the common but mistaken belief that you hand over the title to your home in exchange for a reverse home mortgage. Not so, according to Mahoney.

The interview with Mahoney is located on NewRetirement. com’s website in their Reverse Mortgage article (http://www. newretirement. com/Services/Reverse_Mortgage. aspx? source=revmort_FFQAPR) under the heading: “Interview with Industry Pioneer.” The Reverse Mortgage article is found in their Retirement Services section.

In addition to other information, the Reverse Mortgage article includes a reverse mortgage calculator. The calculator provides an estimate of what size loan a senior could receive under different reverse mortgage products. The products shown include the HECM (Home Equity Conversion Mortgage), the Fannie Mae HomeKeeper®, and the Cash Account™ (a Jumbo Reverse Mortgage). The calculator lists the payout options for each, compared side by side.

With more than just an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of a reverse mortgage, the NewRetirement website covers a variety of other retirement planning financial services and products: mortgage refinancing, debt consolidation, annuities, relocation, financial advisors, supplemental health care insurance and long term care insurance.

NewRetirement. com also offers a proprietary data analysis engine, presented in the form of a retirement calculator. This free retirement calculator interactively responds to visitors’ input with customized presentation of financial planning options matched to their specific situation. A user can save their data to continue working at another time, or return to update it once their situation has changed. For example, they can calculate how much longer their retirement income might last after securing a reverse mortgage.

Those seeking to sustainably lose more than 25 pounds found themselves on track losing an average of seventeen pounds in their first four months with their live FitOrbit trainer.

Third party validation of the FitOrbit fitness revolution welled in the first year. Kaiser Permanente Southern California, which services health coverage to over 3 million Southern California residents, provided dedicated, online, certified FitOrbit trainers to a number of their members struggling to lose weight to help them fight obesity and other preventable diseases. FitOrbit trainers monitor their client's daily progress through a simple to use online activity log maintained by the client along with direct personal communications through the site.

To mark the one year anniversary of FitOrbit and the effective online fitness revolution it started, the service will honor their top 10 trainers as determined by client feedback and weight-loss successes from the first year. Each one is being highlighted within the FitOrbit organization and will also be featured in-depth on www. FitOrbit. com over the coming months.

"My passion is helping people find a fitness program that can fold right into their life," admitted Roxy Black, one of the just-named Top 10 FitOrbit trainers. "Most people would be surprised at how little it takes to make a big impact towards their fitness goals-- it's my job to show them."

"Many people invest in a fitness product hoping it will change their life and instead it ends up doubling as a coat rack," adds Dave DiFabio, another Top 10 FitOrbit trainer. "FitOrbit doesn't disappoint and definitely won't turn into a coat rack. Instead, FitOrbit is like a GPS unit to navigate the road to health and fitness while avoiding roadblocks and stoplights."

As the relationship and knowledge of a client's unique fitness personality progresses, FitOrbit trainers alter the fitness, nutritional and weight loss strategy to better hone in on getting results. Healthcare Publisher to Take Children to Work and to Work Out

Healthcare Publisher to Take Children to Work and to Work Out

When children of Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN) employees join their parents at work on April 27, they’ll focus not only on shaping their futures, but also on evaluating their physical shape. Shaping Their Futures is the theme of the fourth annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day organized by the MS. Foundation for Women. Participating for the second straight year, HIN plans to give its “working” children a first-hand look at the healthcare publishing industry as well as the importance of healthy lifestyles and workplace wellness. Children and relatives of employees from Manasquan, Neptune, Point Pleasant and Wall Township are expected to participate.

Manasquan, N. J., (PRWEB) April 13, 2006

Upon arrival, the children will don pedometers to participate in Step Up, an eight-week program developed by Excellus Blue Cross® Blue Shield® that HIN has adopted as its own workplace wellness initiative. As the children complete a range of multi-media tasks designed to measure the healthy lifestyle efforts of the healthcare publisher’s customers, they’ll also measure the number of steps they take that day and record their meal intake and healthy activities along with HIN employees.

“As a publisher and an Internet presence in the healthcare industry, we are keenly aware of the focus on wellness to boost outcomes and reduce healthcare costs, and we want to show our children how important this is,” explains Melanie Matthews, HIN executive vice president and Neptune resident. “At the same time, as parents and employers, we want to show them that we care about their health and hope they’ll adopt healthy behaviors that will improve their generation’s health outcomes in the future.”

Ms. Matthews pointed to a 2005 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that found that about 16 percent of children today are overweight, with another 15 percent at risk of becoming too heavy. Overweight children are also at increased risk of ailments such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. “Behaviors centered around physical activity and good nutrition are the cornerstone of preventing obesity in children and adolescents,” says Matthews.

Activities planned for HIN’s Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day reflect the diverse activities of the healthcare publisher and will include:

Conducting an online survey on the healthy lifestyles of HIN’s customers, then compiling and emailing the results to survey respondents; Creating a Healthy Lifestyles calendar using images and data they uncover during the online survey and supervised Internet research; Creating and recording podcasts on lessons in healthy lifestyles that will be available from the HIN website at www. hin. com; Participating in workplace wellness initiatives such as enjoying a healthy lunch and snack followed by a lunchtime walk.

The children will also assist with the daily sales and production functions of HIN’s business, Ms. Matthews said.

Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) May 10, 2010

Patients in Brookfield, Wisconsin will have a new option for their dental and denture care needs when an Aspen Dental (www. aspendent. com) practice opens its doors in the Pavilion at Shoppers World at 12455 West Capitol Drive on Thursday, May 20. The Brookfield practice will be open extended hours, including select Saturdays. The office offers affordable fees, a wide range of flexible payment plan options and works with all insurance providers. Walk-in patients and those with emergencies are welcome.

Wanda Kay Blevins Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for her Efforts to Promote Mine Safety: Widow of Mine Worker Killed in Explosion Lobbies for Improved Mine Safety

Wanda Kay Blevins Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for her Efforts to Promote Mine Safety: Widow of Mine Worker Killed in Explosion Lobbies for Improved Mine Safety

Wanda Kay Blevins, a mine safety lobbyist and retired licensed practical nurse, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for her determined efforts in demanding safer working conditions for miners. Her husband Dave and 12 other men were killed by a methane gas blast in the Jim Walters Mine No. 5 in Brookwood, Alabama on September 23, 2001. Dave Blevins was credited with saving 19 men and was posthumously awarded a Carnegie Medal of Honor on November 17, 2003. Wanda accepted it for him.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (PRWEB) June 20, 2007

Soon after the tragedy, Blevins and the families of the other coal miners killed in the explosion listened as U. S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao promised that the U. S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration would investigate the explosion to prevent further crises. However, less than five years later, a methane blast at the Sago Mine in West Virginia killed twelve. Blevins said at the time, "Here we go again, more miners, are they going to keep dying? My husband should not have died in vain."

Blevins, a lifetime member of Cambridge Who's Who, has lobbied to compel the Mine Safety and Health Administration, charged with protecting miners' safety and health, to re-group and be more proactive in their mine-safety investigations. Blevins has spoken before the Senate Committee on the existing conditions in mines and the improvements that need to be made. She also speaks nationally for the United Mine Workers of America. Due in part to her efforts, President Bush signed a mine-safety bill last June that provides for better-trained rescue teams, more underground oxygen supplies and harsher safety-violation fines.

Blevins is the former director of the health component of the Head Start program for McDowell County, West Virginia. She will appear on the Discovery Channel series Decoding Disaster: Mines throughout the month of June.

Happy and Healthy Mom Pampers New Moms and Mommies to Be For a Day

Happy and Healthy Mom Pampers New Moms and Mommies to Be For a Day

Site kicking off a nationwide series of Happy and Healthy MOM DAYS in Miami, Sponsored by O. N.E.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 27, 2010

Happy and Healthy MOM DAY Miami will be held at Cool-De-Sac on the 3rd floor of The Shops at Sunset Place in Coral Gables on Monday, February 22, 2010 from 9:00am-4:00pm. Happy and Healthy Mom. Com has partnered with O. N.E. (One Natural Experience) to produce this full-day event meant to treat pregnant women and new moms to a day of pampering, discounted shopping, food, and fun. A shopping-only ticket is available for those wishing to shop for others. Advance registration required.

The Purpose
The logic behind Happy and Healthy Mom Days is that during the prenatal / postnatal stage of motherhood, women are going through a lot of changes emotionally and physically which leave them feeling stressed out, achy, tired, overweight or bloated, worried, anxious, and almost entirely focused on the baby; and Happy and Healthy Mom Days are meant to help women "Get That Sexy Back" by putting the focus on them. The event will be using mostly mom-owned businesses as vendors. By bringing these mom vendors together, they are also providing a supportive, nurturing, and intimate atmosphere for the attendees, while supporting the mom vendors' businesses. The primary focus is empowering & supporting women. “We as moms, naturally place a tremendous amount of attention on the baby developing inside of us and the baby once they are born. However, we neglect to focus on taking care of ourselves, our health, and our needs. It is important for women to learn that they can take better care of others if they take better care of themselves first,” according to Heather Lopez, the owner of Happy and Healthy Mom. Com.

The Event
Beginning with a networking pregnancy tea presented by A Womb’s View, the event continues on to highlight: massages, reiki and acupuncture by Therapeutic Mobile Spa; yoga by Anahata Yoga Corp; and facial education by Mary Kay, which will all be presented in a breakout, rotating format. Immediately following the pamper stations, the women will reconvene for an empowerment lunch presented by For Girl’s Only and Happy and Healthy Mom. Com and a Nutritional Education class presented by Deals4Moms. Org & Juice Plus. After that, the full day VIP attendees have first dibs on discounted shopping of “momvendors” offering a variety of products and services just for new moms and mommies to be, as well as premium glam bags full of goodies and a chance to win $150 gift certificate to any store of their choice. At 1pm, the event opens up to shoppers, who with an advance ticket purchase, will also have access to discounted shopping, a glam bag, and a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to a store of their choice. All ticketholders are eligible to win one of several doorpizes up for grabs, such as a 90-minute, private yoga session provided by Anahata Yoga Corp. Ticket purchases for full day packages come with free Valentine’s Day packaging & shipping when purchased by February 7. Upgrade to the Ultimate Pamper Me Package and get a hairstyle and make-up application by Mary Kay, as well as a Luz Selenia handmade, one of a kind jewelry set.

Get Involved
Interested in sponsoring the event? Key sponsorship positions are still available. Are you a vendor offering products or services for new moms or mommies to be? There are an extremely limited number of vendor slots left. There are also in-kind sponsorship opportunities. Send inquiries to momdaymiami@happyandhealthymom. com This event is being sponsored by O. N.E (maker of all natural beverages), Pregnancy. org, Three Lollies (maker of Preggie Pops), Best Baby Organics, Hip Mama Couture, Moms Like Me Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale, Babyspot & Babyspot Miami, Deals 4 Moms. Org, the Thrifty 50 Network, Photos By Ki, Tropic of Mom, 1-2-3 Get Organized (Mom Audience), Club de Bebe, The Glamorous WAHM, Care4Hire, Furlong Designs, and members of the Mompack. Additional events will be held in: Boca Raton, FL on 5/6/10 as part of National Mom’s Nite Out (in partnership with Strollerstrides Boca); South Philadelphia, PA; Greenbay, WI; Chicago, IL; VT, NY, and more.

How to Prepare Your Immune System for the Coming Bird Flu Pandemic is Topic of New Report

How to Prepare Your Immune System for the Coming Bird Flu Pandemic is Topic of New Report

In response to the lack of preparedness by global health agencies to the spread of the human strain of avian influenza, nutritionist and author Mike Adams has released a new report on how to personally prepare for a bird flu pandemic.

(PRWEB) March 24, 2005

As calls for vaccine preparation for a coming bird flu pandemic from the World Health Organization go unheeded by most nations, many people are also largely unprepared for an all-out viral attack.

A lack of nutrition and constant bombardment of foods with unhealthy ingredients leave most people in an immuno-suppressed state all of the time. This also leaves many unprepared for a possible outbreak of bird flu, also known as H5N1 avian influenza.

"Beat the Bird Flu Virus," the new report by nutritionist and author Mike Adams from Truth Publishing, details a strategy to reverse this syndrome and boost your immune system to handle potential attacks from the avian flu virus and any other forms of influenza. The report is available for download now and is free of charge.

"Viral infections are opportunistic, and they look for the easiest systems to thrive in, like weakened human immune systems," said Adams. "Many of the nutrients and herbs cited in this report have been proven to be far more powerful than antiviral drugs, and are far less expensive to acquire," Adams said.

The report includes the Top 12 nutrients and herbs which will prepare your immune system for the bird flu or any other influenza pandemic. It can be downloaded at http://www. truthpublishing. com (http://www. truthpublishing. com) with no registration or login is required.

To get the latest situation updates on avian influenza or H5N1 bird flu virus from WHO, visit http://www. who. int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/en/ (http://www. who. int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/en/)

Drug utilization audit confirms misaligned PBM priorities

Drug utilization audit confirms misaligned PBM priorities

AmeriPharm Pharmacy Services has completed an extensive audit of client drug-utilization data from nationally recognized Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and has confirmed industry findings that misaligned priorities are driving pharmacy costs upward.

Sioux Falls, SD (PRWEB) January 18, 2004

AmeriPharm Pharmacy Services has completed an extensive audit of client drug-utilization data from nationally recognized Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and has confirmed industry findings that misaligned priorities are driving pharmacy costs upward. Payers, such as managed care organizations and employer groups, are seeking solutions to contain drug costs and eliminate conflicting priorities. Leading solutions include in-house control of pharmacy functions and best value drug utilization.

AmeriPharm’s President, Ron Bertsch, RPh stated, “The PBM generates revenue streams from misaligned formulary design, inappropriate drug switching, buy and bill practices, non-adherence to maximum allowable cost (MAC), markup of contracted services, and/or repackaging & re-pricing tactics. This is particularly evident when the PBM controls the retail network and mail order delivery system. Innovative payers are questioning the PBM practice of moving rebates to unaccounted revenue line items such as data management fees that shelter the PBM from sharing manufacturer incentives. Our audit results have confirmed many of these practices.”

Escalating litigation in 2003, against traditional PBM financial practices and their unwillingness to accept fiduciary responsibility, has prompted clients and insurers to seek alternatives in managing their prescription drug benefits. Industry experts indicate that pharmacy payers are seeking self management solutions to formulary design, rebate administration, network management and other pharmacy benefit services.

Beginning in January 2004, AmeriPharm Pharmacy Services introduced a drug acquisition cost pricing structure to promote full disclosure, transparency and fiduciary responsibility to clients and managed care organizations. Bertsch indicated that “This pharmacy business model features complete audits of drug acquisition cost, formulary administration, and pharmacy practices. Unlike traditional PBM relationships and Average Wholesale Price (AWP) based contracting, this model shifts control of pharmacy costs, quality of care, and program design to the client.”

About AmeriPharm

AmeriPharm is a national provider of mail order pharmacy and other health care related services based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Formed in 2003, the companyÂ’s focus is to exemplify an environment of full disclosure and transparency in pharmacy healthcare management by partnering with PBMs and payers who share the same philosophies.
