Aboundi Inc. Introduces Business Continuity Ethernet Over Power Line Solution

Aboundi Inc. Introduces Business Continuity Ethernet Over Power Line Solution

Breakthrough patent pending product allows broadband access over the AC power line, even during power outage.

Nashua, NH (PRWEB) August 16, 2007

Aboundi Inc. today announced the release of its APL4200 series UPS-able Quad Power Line NetBridge™ products, which offers commercial and business users the confidence and reliability for running their Ethernet data over the everyday AC power lines within the premises.

Aboundi has incorporated advanced patent pending technology that allows the Plug and Play simplicity with continuous networking connectivity resilience even during power outage by utilizing the existing Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) system to facilitate network powering support. It is designed specifically for small cluster networking applications and can be very easily reallocated without the need to rewire "home run" Ethernet drops to such cluster group locations with uninterruptible network operational reliability.

The APL4200 Quad NetBridge™ provides four shielded MDI/MDIX RJ45 auto-detect Ethernet ports that can be connected to any 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports on PCs and other peripheral devices such as Point of Service (POS), IP cameras, monitors, serial control servers and etc. It comes with four high surge (1750 Joules per port) protected power outlets and also has a 10 Ampere over current circuit short protect that will protect both attached equipment and the UPS source.

"We have broken the market myth regarding the inability to conduct customary networking applications using the existing AC power line infrastructure for commercial business applications where business continuity demands 24x7 connectivity reliability!" stated Hong Yu, President and CEO of Aboundi Inc. "This kind of 'outside the box' creativity is no strange to me." Yu is a serial entrepreneur and was named "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the New Hampshire High Technology Council in 1998.

"The APL4200 Quad NetBridge device have proven its interoperability in conjunction with our POS products with UPS implementations," commented Mr. M. Z. Chen, Vice President of Posiflex Inc. "Although we have not yet tested the product in a larger system wide implementation, it certainly will achieve its performance expectation in the Small to Medium sized Businesses (SMB) POS applications," continued Mr. Chen.

The commercial quality APL4200 series product comes with either 85Mbps or 200Mbps speed and is touted for Q3, 2007 availability. The MSRP for the APL4200-100 series (85Mbps) is $349.95 and the APL4200-200 series (200Mbps) is $399.95.

Triumphant Child Proves to be an Ally for Parents in Uncertain Times

Leading pediatrician and child development specialist have developed a cost effective practical guide for raising preschoolers

Asheville, NC (PRWEB) April 9, 2009

Parents were able to breathe a sigh of relief recently with the launch of a breakthrough book, The Triumphant Child: A Practical Guide for Raising Two, Three and Four Year Olds (http://www. thetriumphantchild. com) when it was successfully launched in Asheville, North Carolina.

Edited by leading pediatrician, Dr. Olson Huff M. D. (http://www. sixtysecondparent. com/_webapps/Dr%20Olson%20Huff) and child development specialist Nicole Rawson-Huff (http://www. sixtysecondparent. com/_webapps/Nicole%20Rawson-Huff), a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book are being donated to the non-profit organization, Children First (http://www. thetriumphantchild. com/childrenfirst).

Their vision began in 1997 when they developed a set of radio messages called "The One Minute Parent." This popular program provided practical tips on raising children and information on child health and development and was successfully syndicated throughout North Carolina.

In September 2008, the pair launched a new parenting website called Sixty Second Parent, which brought together experts in the field of child health and development in online forums. Its success led to the development of their first book in a series called The Triumphant Child, which brings together some of the most knowledgeable resources on pediatric health, practical parenting, and child development from around the world.

This book essentially provides a roadmap for raising two, three and four year olds. With knowledge and advice from well-known experts and authors, practical tips and hints that can be accessed quickly, and stories and case studies from other parents, it offers real world practical advice for overcoming daily challenges such as routines, aggressive behavior, discipline, setting boundaries, sibling rivalry, eating difficulties, fears and anxieties, and general child health and development issues, as well as tips for celebrating the joys and successes of parenting.

Sara Ellington, co-author of The Must-Have Mom Manual and The Mommy Chronicles, says "Parents will feel fortunate to have The Triumphant Child at their fingertips every day as they tackle the challenges and celebrate the successes of raising children. I wish this book had been around when my children were two, three and four years old!"

Experts Say Making A New Year's Resolution to Change Foot Care Habits Can Help Those Embarrassed by Ugly Feet or Toenails

Experts Say Making A New Year's Resolution to Change Foot Care Habits Can Help Those Embarrassed by Ugly Feet or Toenails

While losing weight and toning up are at the top of the self-improvement list for many, feet are usually ignored until the warmer months when sandals come out of the closet. This is unfortunate, because January is the perfect time to start a new regimen geared to making ugly feet more attractive.

Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) December 17, 2009

Experts in the field of lifestyle change suggest that it takes at least 21 days to replace an old habit with a new one. And, as we all know, changing habits is a challenging process - whether we're trying to eliminate a bad habit or develop a good one. Unfortunately, as we age, the visible effects of our bad habits become more and more apparent.

In the case of feet, neglect over time can result in unattractive yellow, discolored toenails or dry, flaky heels. Carol J. Buck is CEO of Xenna Corporation (www. xenna. com) which distributes the foot care products NonyX® Nail Gel and CalleX® Exfoliating Dry Heel Ointment. She says, “Creating good foot care habits is the key to having more attractive feet and toenails. For those willing to make a commitment, having more attractive feet and toenails by summer is within reach.”

While losing weight and toning up are at the top of the self-improvement list for many, feet are usually ignored until the warmer months when sandals come out of the closet. This is unfortunate, because January is the perfect time to start a new regimen geared to making ugly feet more attractive. It can take months of personal attention, along with new habits, to feel confident in sandals or bare feet.

Podiatrists say that to be successful, a good foot care regimen means making changes to their foot surroundings, as well as good foot hygiene.

These foot care habits include:
Thoroughly washing and drying feet Throwing out all old shoes and nail polish Changing shoes and socks daily Taking your own nail implements when getting a manicure or pedicure; never share nail tools with others After purchasing new shoes, place them periodically in a sunny place where they can air out.

For unattractive yellow toenails, topical NonyX® Nail Gel is formulated to exfoliate and remove the yellow or brown discoloration under toenails called keratin debris that can ruin sandal-wearing. With daily use on and under the toenail tip, NonyX Gel first softens then breaks down and exfoliates ugly keratin debris buildup.

Within 3 or 4 weeks the keratin debris is loose enough to begin scraping out from under the nail. With continued use, overall nail appearance improves over time, resulting in nails that are clear and healthy-looking after 5 to 12 months. Once keratin debris is removed, NonyX Gel then keeps nails looking clear and attractive with periodic use. See “before and after” photos of toenails at http://www. xenna. com/nonyx. html (http://www. xenna. com/nonyx. html). A $5 rebate coupon is available at http://www. xenna. com/xenna_coupons. html (http://www. xenna. com/xenna_coupons. html).

For dry, cracked heels and feet, CalleX® Exfoliating Dry Heel Ointment offers a natural, acid-free solution that let’s you get out of the habit of using a pumice stone or scraper. CalleX Ointment both exfoliates and thins thick, hardened heels and moisturizes dry, cracked feet. This is because it contains natural enzymes which selectively exfoliate dry, cracked, thickened or scaly skin while its hydrating base holds in natural skin moisture.

Diabetic-friendly CalleX Ointment is used by podiatrists, and is free of acids, parabens, colorants and lanolin. Lightly fragranced with refreshing peppermint oil, the 1.75 oz. jar is a one to two month supply. For “before and after” photos, go to http://www. xenna. com/callex. html (http://www. xenna. com/callex. html). A $4 rebate coupon is available at http://www. xenna. com/xenna_coupons. html (http://www. xenna. com/xenna_coupons. html).

United States Naval Academy Selects Vend Natural for Healthy Snacking Program Designed to Provide Healthy Options to Nation’s Midshipmen

United States Naval Academy Selects Vend Natural for Healthy Snacking Program Designed to Provide Healthy Options to Nation’s Midshipmen

With nearly a third of young Americans today too overweight to join the military and growing healthcare costs to treat obesity among military personnel, the United States Naval Academy is among the first elite military educational institution to adopt a healthy snack and drink program on campus. Vend Natural, America's leading healthy snacking company has been chosen by the US Naval Academy to provide all natural and organic snacks and beverages, including fresh fruits and vegetables, to its midshipment community.

Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) July 13, 2010

The statistics are staggering. 27 percent of today’s young Americans - ages 17 to 24 – are too overweight to join the military. The Department of Defense spends more than $1 billion annually on medical care associated with excess weight and obesity. In the wake of rising costs from obesity in America and among those in military service, Vend Natural (http://www. vendnatural. com) - America’s leading healthy vending company - today announced a contract with the United States Naval Academy to provide healthier, on-the-go snacks and beverages to the midshipmen in the Annapolis, MD undergraduate institution.

Reflecting growing concerns amongst those educating our nation’s military youth, the U. S. Naval Academy is among the first elite military academic institutions to select fast-growing Vend Natural as their healthy vending provider. Vend Natural will provide all-natural and organic snacks and beverages (http://vendnatural. com/healthy-products. asp) and convenience-packaged fresh fruit and vegetables to the U. S. Naval Academy community.

Vend Natural, founded by company CEO Gil Sanchez, was formed to address the declining health of our nation by providing healthier snacking alternatives to on-the-go individuals at schools, colleges and universities, hospitals and businesses across the nation. The company’s mission is to support improved eating practices by offering healthy products that are easily accessible and affordable to everyone.

“We want our students to have the healthiest choices available to them in their on-campus environment,” said Linda Rodrock, of the U. S. Naval Academy's (http://www. usna. edu/homepage. php) Business Services Division. “Our midshipmen have physically and academically demanding schedules and healthy eating is important to them," said Rodrock. Vend Natural President and Annapolis resident William H. Carpenter, Jr. was particularly pleased about this new contract.

“We know that our nation’s military requires a level of physical preparedness and good health that many young men and women today do not have based on poor eating and a more sedentary leisure lifestyle,” said Carpenter. “I am so excited that the Naval Academy I know and love – and one of our nation’s leading academic institutions - will now provide the midshipmen and campus community with the best and healthiest on-the-go options. Now, they no longer have to trade good health for convenience,” said Carpenter.

Vend Natural (http://www. vendnatural. com) is America’s largest healthy snacking company and is based in Ventura, California and Annapolis, Maryland (http://vendnatural. com/contact-us. asp). The company was inspired by the vision of helping to transform eating patterns by providing healthy snacking alternatives in convenient vending locations across America. Specializing in placements in schools, hospitals and businesses, Vend Natural currently operates more than 400 machines in 25 states with plans for significant growth over the next several years. The company is known for its innovative and environmentally-sensitive vending machine design offering state-of-the art, dual temperature-zoned, energy efficient machines that hold a large variety of both natural organic snacks and beverages (http://vendnatural. com/our-equipment. asp). Scientific Research Proves Xanthones in Mangosteen May Reverse Cholesterol & High Blood Pressure Issues

Scientific Research Proves Xanthones in Mangosteen May Reverse Cholesterol & High Blood Pressure Issues

Scientific data from credible sources all over the world is beginning to support that xanthones dramatically improve cell to cell communication within human bodies. This can lead to the body's ability to defeat some of the world's most dangerous and leading killers. Based on scientific research, xanthones are the most powerful antioxidants yet discovered.

Longmont, CO (PRWEB) December 9, 2005

The best source for these xanthones has been proven to be mangosteen which has been torn apart and heavily researched since 1855. Due to the amazing, life altering impact that xanthones have been proven to bring and provide to the human body, there has been a vast amount of renewed interest over the past 20 years.

Although xanthones exist in small amounts throughout various parts of the world, the concentrated source of xanthones, however, is best derived in its purest form from mangosteen fruit. Doctors and scientists abroad all agree on one thing; that our immune system is specifically designed to defeat disease and illness before it begins, at the source, however, the diets of most Americans over the past several years, and how we grow and raise our own food that we regularly consume, have dramatically weakened the strength of these systems.

One of the nation’s leading practitioners, Dr Frederick Templeman, states, “By adding a simple supplement of mangosteen to our diets, we can provide our bodies with the material to restore the cells that can lead to the defeat of some of our society’s most feared killers.”

The reason you may not be informed about natural remedies such as the mangosteen fruit is because it’s in the pharmaceutical companies’ best interest to not let this information be known. They take in billions of dollars every year from the sale of drugs and some of those drugs are actually deemed harmful to human beings!

Xanthones are not designed to treat, mitigate, or cure any illness, but rather to provide the body with the material and substance to support its own optimal health. In nearly 3 years, tens of thousands of lives have been changed by this information.

Mr. Evans, a leading national healthcare advocate, states that cell to cell communication is literally how we survive and this gives our body the best chance to heal and repair itself. He’s helped many people from all over the country who were suffering from things like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, the effects of inflammation, and countless other ailments that were hindering their quality of life. This technology and the science behind it is absolutely changing the world and revolutionizing the health care industry.

For more information and a free wellness consultation with Mr. Evans, you may contact him via email at scott. m.evans [@] comcast. net or you may reach him via telephone at 303-772-2752.

All NYC & DC-area Corporate Living Furnished Apartments are Now Smoke-Free

All NYC & DC-area Corporate Living Furnished Apartments are Now Smoke-Free

Smoking effects the health of smokers and non-smokers alike. According to the American Cancer Society, “Tobacco use is responsible for nearly 1 in every 5 deaths in the United States.” Not just smokers are affected as secondhand smoke is extremely hazardous to one’s health. With the Smoke-Free policy in place, no resident will have to be concerned with the unpleasant smell lingering from a previous resident or be burdened with the fire risk that smokers present.

Twinsburg, OH (PRWEB) December 8, 2010 –

Besides the obvious health benefits, residents can also save money by living in a Corporate Living smoke-free furnished apartment. The reduced fire risk provides lower insurance costs and significantly smaller damage costs. Smoking materials (e. g. cigarettes and cigars) are the leading cause of total fire deaths in the U. S. Property damage is in the millions every year from smoking related incidents.

Two of Corporate Living’s specialty markets, i. e., Washington, D. C. and New York City, have been the first major cities to make the leap to become completely smoke free. George Meyer, General Manager of Corporate Living’s New York operation, states, “We are committed to the health and quality of life of our guests and associates and that includes providing a clean, smoke-free environment.”

The increased savings in insurance costs and extra cleaning bills has enabled Corporate Living to provide luxury living at a reasonable rate in New York and Washington, D. C., two of the most expensive cities in the world.

Corporate Living is a temporary housing company providing corporate furnished apartments throughout North America specializing in stays of 30 days or longer. A certified Women’s Business Enterprise and a contracted GSA (Federal Government’s General Services Administration) service provider, Corporate Living is headquartered in Twinsburg, OH with offices in New York, Washington, D. In These Tough Economic Times, Leaders Can't Afford To Operate With Half Their Brain: Dr. John Townsend Speaks on Leadership

In These Tough Economic Times, Leaders Can't Afford To Operate With Half Their Brain: Dr. John Townsend Speaks on Leadership

Dr. John Townsend speaks at a luncheon on October 8 in Dallas on tapping into the right side of the brain for a competitive leadership edge. Townsend is author of the best-selling book "Boundaries" and his latest book "Leadership Beyond Reason." He will discuss the strategies that leaders must use to have high performance and get results during these tough economic times. The "left-brain" approach of using things like cost-analysis and strategy meetings has worked for decades, but those tried-and-true practices aren't enough in this new economic climate. Now, the successful leaders are those who have tapped into the right side of their brain and relied on intuition, creativity, emotions, and relationships.

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) October 2, 2009

Dr. John Townsend (http://drtownsend. com), author of the best-selling book "Boundaries" and his latest book "Leadership Beyond Reason," will discuss the new strategies that leaders must use to have high performance and get results during these tough economic times at a luncheon on Thursday, October 8, 2009, from 12:00-1:30 p. m. at the Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas.

The down economy has required managers and executives to examine their approaches to leadership. According to Dr. Townsend, "Leadership as usual, is no longer leadership as usual. People and companies are changing the way they look at opportunities and problems in order to succeed in a changing work paradigm."

Townsend's studies have found that a key component to leading successfully during tough times is adding a life team in addition to a technical team. Many leaders rely heavily on the technical side of business such as accounting, IT, change-management, and marketing to assist them in working out problems. "While these aspects are critical," says Townsend, "leaders also need people around them just to support them as a person. A life team provides a sounding board for knotty problems, a place to unload troublesome stress and negative emotions, and a safe environment to talk about deeper issues and concerns."

Attendees at the luncheon will hear Dr. Townsend expand on the keys to leading in this down economy and receive a copy of his hardcover book, "Leadership Beyond Reason: How Great Leaders Succeed by Harnessing the Power of Their Values, Feelings and Intuition." Admission to the luncheon is $35. Individuals interested in attending may email Elaine Morris at elaine (at) drtownsend. com or call her at 214-244-2592 to reserve a seat.

Other Upcoming Dallas Events with Dr. Townsend:
Townsend will speak at another luncheon on November 12 at the same location on a similar topic.

On November 13-15, Dr. Townsend and Dr. Henry Cloud will be conducting a Boundaries Boot Camp in Dallas (http://store. cloudtownsendstore. com/bobocada. html). Boot Camp attendees will learn how to set healthy boundaries, communicate directly and clearly, have healthy confrontations, and reduce stress.

Starting in January 2010, Dr. Townsend will expand The Leadership Coaching Program (http://drjohntownsend. com/blog/leadership-coaching-program/) that he currently leads in Southern California to Dallas. Ten professionals make up a team that meets one day a month to go beyond the disciplines of leadership and explore the vital areas of life that are impacting his or her effectiveness and success. Between meetings, they'll also meet with local executive coach Elaine Morris. The program offers a unique holistic approach to accelerating business and leadership performance, producing measurable and significant results. Those interested in being considered for membership on the team should contact Elaine Morris (elaine (at) drtownsend. com / 214-244-2592) to schedule a personal interview with Dr. Townsend. Applicants can also fill out this form (http://drjohntownsend. com/contact-form. php).

Training with a Certified Golf Biomechanic: Finally, A Way to Improve the Golfer, Not just the Game.

Golfers - quit training like bodybuilders. Let Whole-In-One Golf Solutions design an exercise program that will improve your game and prevent nagging injuries. Better Golf, Better Health.

(PRWEB) April 19, 2003

Raleigh, NC, April, 01 2003 — Most golfers know that an effective exercise program and correct training can prevent injuries and can ultimately lead to a better golf game. What they fail to understand is that most “sports-specific” conditioning programs are based upon bodybuilding techniques. While improving overall health and building muscle, these programs fail to improve and often worsen a golfer’s game. When consulting the advice of a personal trainer or physical therapist to achieve better results, it is important to choose a trainer that has a solid understanding of golf. After all, a baseball player wouldn’t dream of going to a football coach to get out of a hitting slump.

Avoid frustration, improve your scores, and reduce the risk of career-ending injuries by working with an elite group of trainers taught to specifically cater to the needs of golfers. Evans Putman, C. H.E. K. Certified Golf Biomechanic and Owner of Whole-In-One Golf Solutions, is one of these trainers. According to Mr. Putman, “A certified Golf Biomechanic focuses on improving function through correct training. We improve the golf game by improving the actual golfer - focusing on the ways they stretch, swing, and train. Unlike golf, bodybuilding does not include a functional component; success in bodybuilding is not dependent on precision timing, control, accuracy, or skill. Unfortunately, the majority of golfers today are training using bodybuilding techniques.”

Paul Chek, author of The Golf Biomechanic’s Manual and founder of the C. H.E. K. Institute in San Diego, CA, designed the Golf Biomechanic Certification Intensive to teach his technique to fitness trainers, health professionals, and golf pros. To earn the title “certified Golf Biomechanic”, a person must first demonstrate an extensive knowledge and grasp of the C. H.E. K. System for developing golf performance and be able to address golf-specific conditioning needs. To prove their knowledge, they must also pass a rigorous practical and written exam. Chek is one of the most sought after conditioning and rehabilitation consultants in the world. He is respected not only because he promotes proper self-conditioning and training, but because his cutting-edge techniques also prevent more injuries.

Whole-In-One Golf Solutions offers various programs all of which are designed around your individual needs. All programs include a free initial consultation to discuss your goals and develop a strategy to reach those goals. Please contact Evans Putman at 919-345-5053 or eput@mindspring. com with any questions, comments, or to set up an appointment.

‘Hug Your Kids Day’ Goes Global – As Pfizer Sponsors ‘Yakap’ Holiday in Philippines

When is it the right time to take an American message global? When a major international corporation wants to help spread it to the other side of the world. That’s the lesson learned by Michelle Nichols, a sales veteran and renowned speaker on corporate work-life issues - and the founder of Global Hug Your Kids Day.

Reno, NV (PRWEB) July 21, 2010

When is it the right time to take an American message global? When a major international corporation wants to help spread it to the other side of the world. That’s the lesson learned by Michelle Nichols, a sales veteran and renowned speaker on corporate work-life issues - and the founder of Global Hug Your Kids Day (http://www. hugyourkidsday. com).

Last fall, when Pfizer Consumer Healthcare in the Philippines asked Ms. Nichols if they could promote her US-based holiday across their country, she knew it was time to think bigger, to think global. This week, as part of Global Hug Your Kids Day, the holiday was celebrated across the Philippines as “National Yakap Your Child Day” (“yakap” translates to “hug” in Tagalog). The pharmaceutical giant organized the campaign at the website Yakapable. com (http://www. yakapable. com), where parents could pledge to give their kids a hug and a Clusivol vitamin every day.

The result? A resounding success, with more than 5500 families registered. “The campaign has been generating a tremendous amount of buzz and support among the target consumer (mothers) as evidenced by the number of ‘YakaPromises’ made on the website, and the robust activity we have been getting on the social networking site, Facebook,” said Neena Moorjani, a spokesperson for Pfizer.

The holiday was commemorated in 28 states last year, including 100 billboards in 17 major cities. It’s part of the Hug Your Kids Today movement, founded by Ms. Nichols in 2008 in honor of her son, Mark, whom she lost to brain cancer, at age 8 ½ in 1998. This year’s US events were canceled due to the illness of one of Ms. Nichols’ family members. Visit the Hug Your Kids Today video (http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=IuBjdc21Yhw&feature=channel) on YouTube.

“I’m so excited about the success of the Philippines’ Yakapable program,” said Ms. Nichols. “Hugging is universal. Living your work-life priorities - including hugging kids, spouses and other loved ones every day - helps you be more productive at work and happier in your life. We were sorry to cancel the US activities this year, but plan on being back next year, bigger and better, with Global Hug Your Kids Day on July 18, 2011.”

Ms. Nichols was the Savvy Selling columnist and podcast journalist for BusinessWeek. com for six years. She is also the author of “Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent,” which was a finalist for the national Best Books Award. Ms. Nichols is a professional speaker and consultant on work-life strategies for sales, medical, and other high-impact professionals. She shows corporate leaders the bottom-line impact of helping their high-value employees prioritize their work-life issues. Educational Outfitters, Ranks 408 on the 2004 Inc. 500

Educational Outfitters, Ranks 408 on the 2004 Inc. 500

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 22, 2004

Magazine, the premier publication for small and medium-sized businesses, today released its 23rd annual Inc. 500 ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in the country. Educational Outfitters a School Uniform, Embroidery, Screen Printing and Promotional Goods Retailer, ranks 408 on the list. The Inc. 500 Special Issue will appear on newsstands October 26 and will be on display until December 21, 2004.

The companies that made this list have thrived despite continued stagnation in the economy, posting an average year-over-year sales growth of 265%. Inc. 500 companies posted aggregate 2003 revenue of $12.6 billion, and 82% of them were profitable. And while the United States shed 410,000 jobs in 2003, Inc. 500 companies provided employment for more than 70,000 people.

Further demonstrating the resilience of this year’s Inc. 500 crop is the fact that 102 of this year’s honorees started in 1999—meaning that they weathered the start-up costs of the overcapitalized boom and thrived during the impending bust that was one of the toughest periods for young companies in recent memory.

“The best thing you can say about this year’s crop of Inc. 500 entrepreneurs is that they didn’t buy into the hype,” said Inc. editor-in-chief John Koten. “When people were practically giving away funding in the late 1990s, these companies didn’t overextend, and when everyone hit the panic button a few years later, they stayed calm and seized opportunity.”

The Inc. 500 ranks privately held companies according to averaged year-over-year sales growth over the past four years. With approximately 75% of all new job creation in the U. S. coming from small businesses, the Inc. 500 is a prescient indicator of the companies and industries that are driving the economy forward. Eighty-five companies (17%) on this yearÂ’s Inc. 500 say they plan to go public at some point. Over the years, the Inc. 500 has identified the next generation of world-class companies, with Microsoft, Stonyfield Farms, Timberland, Oracle, The Princeton Review, Morningstar, E* Trade, Intuit, and DominoÂ’s Pizza all appearing on the list before they became industry powerhouses.

California is the state with the most Inc. 500 companies (67). Florida is second, with 39 firms on the list, followed by Virginia (31), Texas (28), and New York (25). Like last year, Utah has the highest number of Inc. 500 companies per capita in the U. S with 6.8 per million residents—a distant second is Virginia with 3.9 per million residents.

For the second year in a row, Washington, D. C., is the top metropolitan area on the Inc. 500 with 29 companies, although it suffered a drop-off from last year, when it had 41. Boston is second, with 19 companies, followed by New York City (17), Miami (15), and Atlanta (14).

This year’s Inc. 500 is the first to reflect the tremendous start-up costs prevalent in the late 1990s economic boom. Of the Inc. 500 founders, 36% had start-up capital of less than $20,000, compared with 48% last year—and 21% reported needing more than $300,000 to get going, compared with only 14% last year. Just 7% of Inc. 500 CEOs reported using formal venture capital to start their company, compared with 2% last year, while 62% depended entirely on private equity.

Some 85% of Inc. 500 CEOs have an estimated net worth of over $1 million, with 39% pulling down an annual compensation of between $100,000 and $250,000. Also of note is that only 8% of Inc. 500 company founders are women.

Entrepreneurs leading IT Services, Financial Services, Health, and Advertising and Marketing are poised to do the most hiring over the next year. The industries with the strongest showing on this yearÂ’s list are IT Services, Health, Financial Services, and Business Services (based on number of companies in the sector).

To be eligible for this year's Inc. 500, companies had to be independent and privately held through their fiscal year 2003, have had at least $200,000 in net sales in the base year of 1999 for Inc. 500 alumni and 2000 for new applicants, and $2 million in net sales for 2003. In addition, their 2003 sales had to exceed 2002 sales. Companies are ranked on averaged year-over-year sales growth. Inc. verifies all information using tax forms and audited financial statements from certified public accountants and by conducting interviews with company officials.

Beginning November 1, the full Inc. 500 list will be available online at www. inc. com with full year subscription for $19.95 or alone for $9.95. The fee allows users to search 2004 company profiles by industry and offers online-only premium information about this year's Inc. 500. From October 20–31, only 50 of the Inc. 500 will available for viewing at www. inc. com. Copies of the Inc. 500 issue will be available on newsstands nationwide beginning October 26 and can also be ordered at 1-800-290-5460 or INC@reprintbuyer. com.

Inc., the only business magazine dedicated exclusively to owners and managers of fast-growing private companies, delivers real solutions for today's innovative company builders. It provides hands-on tools and market-tested strategies for managing people, finances, sales, marketing and technology. Inc. is the premier publication that focuses on small to medium-size businesses, which are responsible for more than half the nation's gross domestic product and 75% of its new jobs. Athens Hospital Keeps Infants Safe with TotGuard™ Active RFID System

Athens Hospital Keeps Infants Safe with TotGuard™ Active RFID System

Care comes first for Georgia Hospital in selecting Convergint/GuardRFID active RFID tags to protect newborns and infants. The TotGuard™ system was chosen for its baby-friendly active tag attachment and reliable IP based RFID technology.

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) November 16, 2009

Convergint Technologies and Guard RFID Solutions (http://guardrfid. com/company/) Inc. jointly announced today that its TotGuard Infant Protection solution is now well past its first anniversary, protecting infants in the state-of-the-art Women’s Service Centre at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia, USA.

“When Athens Regional Medical Centre wanted to migrate to a new active RFID Infant Security (http://guardrfid. com/healthcare/3/infant-protection-solutions) solution in 2008, the choice was obvious,” says Ken LaChance, Convergint’s Vice President of Business Development, “GuardRFID’s TotGuard™ is a state-of-the-art solution that is a true IP-based infant tracking system, using existing Ethernet networks, so the system can be accessed across the whole facility as well as remotely for monitoring and maintenance services. This was our first installation using the TotGuard™ solution, so we conducted a thorough site analysis before we proposed the system. As an Integrator we are well satisfied with our choice to install TotGuard™ because it was easy to install, it has performed very well and we have a very satisfied customer as a result.”

Sherry Schacke, Director of the Mother Baby Unit at Athens responded, “As a leading provider of post partum care, we use not only the most comfortable infant security for our Moms and Tots, but also the most active rfid system (http://guardrfid. com/company/6/about-guard-rfid)." Schacke explained that Athens Regional’s Women’s Center strives to provide family centered care in its Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby Unit, so the unobtrusive, supple wrap tag was a good fit for their “care comes first” philosophy. “At Athens Regional Medical Center, we know we have done our best to keep our most vulnerable patient group – infants - safe and sound. Convergint Technologies and GuardRFID have been truly exceptional in the delivery of the TotGuard™ system and in providing us with post-implementation support”. Schacke concluded by saying that the TotGuard active RFID system has been in place for over a year, and has performed extremely well.

GuardRFID Vice President of Sales, Beth Bandi explained that the three parties worked closely to provide a complete solution for Athens Regional Medical Center’s requirements. “GuardRFID’s active RFID infant tag (http://guardrfid. com/healthcare/48/totguard-tag-family) system was selected for its soft, baby friendly wrap attachment, with its unique dual-tamper detection technology. The dual tamper mechanism significantly reduces nuisance alarms.” GuardRFID’s TotGuard Infant Security system uses the only Disposable Infant Tags on the market, eliminating the need to clean, disinfect and sterilize tags after use, and removing the risk of cross-infection between infants. These small, infant tags utilize GuardRFID’s unique dual-tamper detecting mechanism, which are designed to significantly reduce nuisance alarms. GuardRFID offers the widest variety of tag types for Infant Security applications, including the first ever Tamper Sensing Umbilical Tag, as well as the smallest and lightest Umbilical Tag available in the market that can be used with almost any standard Umbilical Clamp.

TOURISM AND BRUTALITY IN EGYPT

TOURISM AND BRUTALITY IN EGYPT

Egypt prides itself on being a top tourism destination. Animal abuse and zoo brutality should change traveler's minds.

(PRWEB) January 20, 2003

No Love for the Environment? No Lovely Tourists

It has been said that the true test of any civilized society, like EgyptÂ’s, is its treatment of the environment and the animals that inhabit the land. If thatÂ’s true, and I believe it is, Egypt fails the test miserably each and every day. IÂ’m not only talking about the garbage, polluted water and air in every neighborhood, but IÂ’m also talking about the consistently barbaric acts committed against animals in Egypt day after day that go unpunished by the government.

Do tourists notice the brutality? Of course they do. Does EgyptÂ’s total lack of respect for the environment actually impact tourism? Of course it does. Westerners, disgusted by the sight of such brutality, consistently return to their home country eager to share the animal brutality in Egypt. A warning to friends and family to rethink their vacation plans if they donÂ’t want to see a dead donkey floating in the Giza canals, people using the outdoors as their personal trash can and toilet, or a group of young boys sadistically smashing a puppy against a wall. NOT a photo opportunity.

Ecotourism is on the rise—yes—even in the Middle East. Jordan has developed two wildlife sanctuaries and is working hard to reintroduce endangered species into their natural habitats. Americans and Europeans continue to increase their desire to visit destinations that support and protect the environment. "Skip the Brutality. Visit Jordan, not Egypt" could well be the next advertising campaign. Guess what Egypt? It will work! What would you rather see as a tourist? A wildlife sanctuary or the sadistic treatment of animals unpunished by authorities? Make your choice.

ItÂ’s puzzling. Egypt does nothing to stop the brutality. Egypt doesnÂ’t seem to make the connection between a healthy environment and healthy tourism. And soÂ

A government that once worshipped cats now sits idly by as groups of teenage boys bury them up to their necks in the sand and smash their heads with rocks. Long-term Western residents encourage boabs to brutally poison or shoot stray cats and dogs apparently forgetting that this act would be illegal in their own country. Egpytians and Western residents alike seem to forget that without the stray cats and yes dogs, the rodents in this country would feed off the garbage left on the streets and their numbers would spiral out of control speading disease and invading even the nicest neighborhoods and villas.

Donkeys, the transportation means by which thousands can sell their goods in order to feed their families, are openly tortured and beaten by their owners who donÂ’t seem to make the connection that a healther animal would live longer thus allowing the owner to sell goods longer.

Horses whipped despite open, infected sores and whose loads are so overbearing that their legs and joints are destroyed much earlier than necessary thus making the animal unfit for work.

"Vets" who practice without a license or proper training and who mutilate, kill, and sell animals.

Pet shops that house animals in cages so small that the animal develops open sores from rotting in its own feces.

And perhaps most pathetic--Zoo "caretakers" who poke and jab any animal hoping to entice a reaction worthy of a few pounds of baksheesh and who refuse to treat animals for obvious infection and chronic disease. A zoo is supposed to be a tourist attraction. A zoo is supposed to be a place where a country demonstrates its total love for the environment and its commitment for the life of species. The Cairo Zoo demonstrates a hatred for the environment and a total disregard for the memories of tourists who naively visit unprepared for the disgusting sites that await them once inside.

How does a society "develop" to the point where rich 20-somethings can sit and enjoy a drink at a café while animals are barbarically housed by a "vet" just a meter away in the cold, winter air as is the case in Heliopolis? How does a society "develop" where adults allow themselves and their children to toss litter on the streets as if the land were their own personal garbage bin? How does a society "develop" to the point where gangs of young boys consistently torture, mutilate and kill the most innocent of animals? How does a society "develop" when government soldiers, police and citizens choose to look the other way rather than deal with the problem.

Simple. It doesnÂ’t develop. It never develops. It regresses.

Abusing the environment can only lead to one outcome—disease. Egypt has set itself on a collision course with sickness as it continues to abuse and destroy its surroundings. It can’t be too long before Egypt’s lack of respect for the environment and animals finds its way into the population—where people will show the same lack of respect for eachother and where people are ravaged by destructive diseases.

Try selling that package to a tourist or travel agent.

No love for the environment. No tourism. ItÂ’s very simple.

Atrocities at the Cairo, Egypt Zoo

The USA and other countries continue to pour millions of dollars into Egypt ignoring the state of the environment and animals. The USA and other contributing countries should be held responsible for the brutality that infests CairoÂ’s streets, neighborhoods and zoos. The story below is just one of many that must be publicized if animals are to be saved.

I visited the zoo at the beginning of November 2002 and again on the 13th January 2003 and was even more horrified at the conditions in which the poor animals are forced to live.

In November I was allowed to hold a lion cub which was very lethargic and emaciated and its eyes looked glazed. There were two cubs which were kept apart in dark, dirty cages. Only one of the cubs was taken out, the other was a little livelier. The "keeper" told me they were two months old but I was sure they were older. The poor animal was being starved so that it could be held by vistiors to the zoo and was a means of extra income for the so called keepers.

When I went to the zoo on the 13th Jan., I was shocked at the deterioration of the lion cub. It tried to growl when the "keeper" lifted it up but it was too weak to stop him. It was terribly thin and had the glazed look in its eyes. Its face was scarred and wounded. The "keeper" told me again that it was two months old, I said that it was impossible as I had seen it two months ago and it more than two months old even then. There was only one lion cub so I suspect that the one I held in November had died and this was its sibling. It also looked as if it was dying. IÂ’m sure it wonÂ’t be there the next time I go back to check on it. It is heartbreaking to see these beautiful animals being subjected to this torture! I told the man that he was starving it but he just ignored me.

They have an African elephant in a large caged area but is kept on a short chain attached to its leg. I asked why it was chained as the compound seemed secure enough but was told that it was to protect the people who get too close when they are allowed to feed it.( for a tip) There are two Indian elephants also on short chains but they are kept in an open area. I saw a "keeper" hit one of them on the face with a stick.

Most of the big cats are kept indoors again to benefit the "keepers" financially as they make them perform by poking them or by using other means.

They have a black panther and two pumas kept inside dirty, smelly dark rooms. They only get to see daylight when visitors are taken in to see them, then a window is opened. When leaving they expect a tip.

The Egyptian government must hear from Westerners, particularly tourists, if they are to stop these practices. The only voice they hear is the voice of tourism dollars being effected.

ViSalus Sciences Donates to American Idol Gives Back Foundation

ViSalus Sciences Donates to American Idol Gives Back Foundation

ViSalus Sciences, pioneers in the health and wellness industry, donated to American Idol Gives Back during a charity broadcast last week.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 15, 2008

ViSalus Sciences, leaders in innovative nutritional solutions, made a donation to the American Idol Gives Back Foundation. The charity broadcast event took place last Wednesday in support of education, health and other services for children and their families in the U. S. and nationwide.

"When we learned we could save thousands of lives with a donation, we acted immediately," said Ryan Blair, CEO of ViSalus Sciences. "Hearing that a malaria vaccine costs a mere 49 cents, and that millions of people in Africa die every year because of a lack of attention to this and other issues, we had to do something."

Blair highlighted philanthropy among the core values of the company. "ViSalus stands for life, health and prosperity," he said. "Prosperity to us is more than just the financial gains, but what you do with them. With efforts like this, we can serve as an example for our distributors, giving back to the causes that touch our hearts."

The ViSalus community supports hundreds of charities and nonprofits through the company's partnership with Make The Difference Network (http://www. visalus. com/company/mtdn. asp). Created by actress Jessica Biel and her father Jon, the site connects donors looking to give back with charities and nonprofits in need of support.

"Giving is something every entrepreneur should do," said Blake Mallen, ViSalus Chief Marketing Officer who co-founded ViSalus Sciences with Blair. "We make that a central focus of our company's core values."

"American Idol noticed that their vast network of viewers was not just a revenue source for FOX, but a force for change if mobilized in the right direction," added Nick Sarnicola, Chief Sales Officer and third founder of ViSalus Sciences. "With a community of customers and distributors who are passionate about giving back, we felt a responsibility to give them an avenue to do that, and to set the example as a company."

Idol Gives Back began as a charity event in 2007 and has developed into a foundation started by FremantleMedia North America, Fox Broadcasting Company and 19 Entertainment. Simon Fuller, director and president of the American Idol Gives Back Foundation, is also CEO of 19 Entertainment, a producer of the Emmy award-winning television show.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) March 9, 2010

The Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health will host the annual meeting of the Burden of Surgical Disease Working Group (BoSD WG) in Nashville, TN, on March 10-12, 2010. www. globalhealth. vanderbilt. edu/bosd (http://www. globalhealth. vanderbilt. edu/bosd ) The BoSD WG mission is to advocate for the global delivery and improvement of surgical services, especially in low-income countries where the needs are great. www. burdenofsurgicaldisease. com

According to the BoSD WG founder Dr. K. A. Kelly McQueen, M. D., MPH and Fellow, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative: “The BoSD WG has grown quickly and diversified in the 4 years since its grass root beginnings. While the group has made great strides in contributing peer-reviewed literature, to international collaboration and network building and to proactive academic discussion, we have yet to be broadly recognized by the global health community as an essential element of public health, contributing to decreased disability and premature death in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. This year we hope to expand our focus and improve advocacy through increased communication and corporate collaboration, as well as continuing with our goals to improve surgical infrastructure in low income countries, invest in education and training, and improve surgical and anesthesia outcomes.”

Speaking on behalf of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Douglas C. Heimburger, M. D., M. S. said: “Given the multidisciplinary missions of the BoSD WG and of the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health www. globalhealth. vanderbilt. edu, and the strength of Vanderbilt University faculty in many departments involved in global health, it is a natural fit for Vanderbilt Institute of Global Health to lead in an interdepartmental effort on behalf of surgical needs in developing countries. We are pleased and privileged to partner in this effort and host this conference.”

The Honorable Senator William H. Frist M. D. will deliver a keynote address ‘Lessons Learned in Haiti: Using Crisis to Highlight Surgical Need’. Senator Frist, a surgeon and humanitarian, and Chairman of Hope Through Healing Hands www. hopethroughhealinghands. org has recently returned from Haiti where he performed surgery for five days at Baptist Haiti Mission Hospital. Dr. Frist said: "While surgery is taken for granted in the U. S., in developing countries many people die unnecessarily from lack of surgical and anesthesia presence. The disaster in Haiti has highlighted the desperate need for surgeons for those who did survive the earthquake, but were severely injured. We should seize this moment to draw attention to this need, not just for Haiti, but for low income countries around the world."

Bob Isherwood, Chief Creative Dude and Co-CEO of i. e. healthcare www. iehealthcare. com will also deliver a keynote ‘For crying out loud’ to address the communication challenges facing the BoSD WG’s objectives and how they might overcome them. Bob Isherwood is the former Worldwide Creative Director of Saatchi and Saatchi, Clio Hall of Famer, and co-author of the book ‘World Changing Ideas’. Isherwood also has an Honorary Doctorate in Communications. Isherwood is using his consumer engagement and communications experience to bring attention and resources to needed healthcare issues. In February 2010, Isherwood was a mHealth Alliance panelist as part of the GSMA Mobile World Congress www. prweb. com/releases/2010/02/prweb3633584.htm (http://www. prweb. com/releases/2010/02/prweb3633584.htm ) where he talked about i. e. healthcare’s work with the mHealth Alliance to bring healthcare solutions through the mobile phone to improve maternal and newborn health, particularly in Africa as part of the UN Foundation’s Millennium Development Goals.

Jeff W. Morrill, President and CEO, NuOrtho Surgical, Inc. www. nuorthosurgical. com added: “NuOrtho Surgical is pleased to recognize the immeasurable contributions of the Global Burden of Surgical Disease Working Group in changing the face of surgical care globally. However, a tremendous need still exists in areas such as mobility and basic orthopedic surgical procedures. NuOrtho looks forward to assisting the BoSD WG in building sustainable relationships for global health and expanding their efforts to preserve healthy tissue and enhance mobility.”

The BoSD WG March 10-12, 2010 meeting will have an elite group of 145 participants from 10 countries with representatives from: World Health Organization, International Committee for the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, Operation Smile, Global Burden of Disease Project, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, Vanderbilt University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, University of California at San Francisco, University of Washington. University of Utah, University of Toronto, University of California at San Diego, Society of Anesthesiologists, American College of Surgeons, International College of Surgeons, International Society of Surgeons, and World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists.

On-going Free Breast Cancer Screenings During the Month of October, at Centro de Salud Esperanza in Partnership with Saint Anthony Hospital

Esperanza and its partners are reaching out to Latina women with several key messages, most notably, the importance of early detection through annual mammography screening for women over 40. Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 5, 2005

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to mark the occasion, Centro de Salud Esperanza in partnership with Saint Anthony Hospital, will provide Free Clinical Breast Exams. Esperanza and its partners are reaching out to Latina women with several key messages, most notably, the importance of early detection through annual mammography screening for women over 40.

Centro de Salud Esperanza is located at 2001 S. California Avenue in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.

"Mammography is an important tool for detecting breast cancer, said Rosemary Meganck, APN, CNM, Director of Women’s Services, Saint Anthony Hospital. Clinicians and women should discuss individual risk factors to determine when to have a first mammogram and how often to have them after that."

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among Hispanic women. Mexican women have 30% poorer survival rates. 69.3 % of Hispanic women over 40, have received a mammogram over the past two years.

To obtain this screening, participants must be over the age of 40, uninsured and must have no symptoms or prior history of Breast disease. The on-going program kicks off in October and will accept up to 150 participants into the free program. Participants must make an appointment at Centro de Salud Esperanza for an initial evaluation. At Esperanza, they will receive a breast exam, and an assessment of their symptoms and risk factors. Their assessment will determine their eligibility to receive the free screening Mammogram and they will be directed to Saint Anthony Hospital. If follow-up is required, patients will be referred to Centro de Salud Esperanza, to discuss further services with on-site physicians. The entire Breast Cancer Screening is valued at $155.00.

“Our role is to educate women, especially Latina women, as we are serving a predominantly Mexican-American population, on many issues surrounding their health and well being. In most cases, many Latina women primarily care for their families first, and tend to care for their health as a minor matter, said Dr. Theo Sai, Medical Director, Centro de Salud Esperanza. We hope awareness will change that mindset.” he concludes.

Mammography screenings are a woman's best chance for detecting breast cancer early. They can significantly improve a woman's chances of survival. An estimated 216,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in American women this year, according to national statistics. Early detection is the key to successful treatment.

Some of the American Cancer Society guidelines include the following tips for getting a Mammogram:

1. Yearly Mammograms should start at the age of 40.

2. Use a facility that specializes in mammograms or that performs many each day.

3. If you are satisfied with the facility, continue to go there each year so that your mammograms can be compared from year to year.

4. Only two to four mammograms out of every 1,000 will lead to a cancer diagnosis. Ten percent of women may require additional mammograms, but only eight to ten percent of them will need a biopsy.

5. All mammogram facilities are required to send your results to you within 30 days and to contact you within five business days if there is a suspected problem.

For more information on Mammograms, please check out www. cancer. org or call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345.

To schedule an appointment for a free initial evaluation, please call Centro de Salud Esperanza at 773-584-6200, 2001 S. California Avenue, Chicago.

Centro de Salud Esperanza health center hours are:

*Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday - 8am-5pm

Testing our Sun Smarts this Summer

Testing our Sun Smarts this Summer

Dermatologist Dr. Joshua Fox, Even in the Smartest Cities in the U. S., Misconceptions Remain

Roslyn, NY (PRWEB) August 12, 2010

When it comes to safe sun habits, many Americans are still in the Dark Ages. A new report from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) shows there is plenty of room for improvement across the country, but especially in the cities that fared the worst in its “Suntelligence” survey, which measured both beliefs and behaviors related to sun exposure in more than 7,000 adults nationwide. That survey found the smartest people, sun-wise, in Hartford, Salt Lake City, Denver and Tampa. The least sun-savvy folks were in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cleveland and Seattle.

“Most people know that getting a blistering sunburn—or baking themselves brown every summer—isn’t good for their skin,” says Joshua L. Fox, M. D., a leading dermatologist and Medical Director of Advanced Dermatology PC of New York and New Jersey PC. “But we’re fuzzy on some of the finer points of sun exposure,” he says. “Many people don’t like using lots of lotion, or want to look tan without getting wrinkles—or cancer—so they’re willing to believe that their unsafe habits are perfectly fine.”

The AAD survey brought up several common misconceptions about sun exposure. Here are the five biggest—and the reality behind them:
Getting a “base tan” is a good way to avoid sunburn (and sun damage). “Trying to save your skin through preemptive tanning is an exercise in insanity”, says Dr. Fox (but it still makes sense to more than half the respondents). “A tan gives the equivalent of an SPF 4—not a lot of protection, and certainly not worth the damage and risk. The base tan itself causes skin damage.” Repeated exposure to UV radiation—even if it’s done with good intentions—leads to premature aging and possibly cancer later in life.

You need sun exposure to get the Vitamin D your body needs. About sixty percent of the people in the AAD’s study said that sun exposure was good for one’s health. A big part of that misconception comes from news reports on sunlight’s role in producing Vitamin D, which the body uses to help build bone, among other things. “But these reports are misleading”, Dr. Fox says. “Vitamin D is essential,” he says, “but sun exposure is not essential for Vitamin D production.” “Instead”, he says, “you should eat a healthy diet, with plenty of natural and fortified foods, and take a supplement of up to 1000 units of Vitamin D to make up for any dietary shortfalls.”

Tanning beds have gotten a bad rap, but they’re still better than natural sunlight. Nearly 30 million Americans visit tanning salons every year, and the AAD report found that only about one-third of adults realize they’re unsafe. “However, indoor tanning is associated with a seventy-five percent increase in the risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer”, says Dr. Fox. Last year, the International Agency for Research on Cancer - a division of the World Health Organization - labeled indoor tanning a carcinogenic and put it in the highest risk category, right next to tobacco smoke. Many states have recently put restrictions on tanning beds for people under age 18 – some states now require parental consent and other states are considering banning tanning beds altogether for minors.

Sunscreen with SPF 30 gives twice the protection of SPF 15. And SPF 90 delivers three times as much as SPF 30—enough to keep you safe on the planet Mercury. The AAD’s study found that eight out of ten people believe this (it does seem logical: If you’re driving at 90 miles per hour, you’re going three times as fast as if you were driving at 30 MPH). “But there are a few things wrong with this theory”, says Dr. Fox. First of all, the sun protection factor, or SPF, refers to UVB rays. To get UVA protection, you need a sunscreen labeled ’broad spectrum‘ or one that contains a physical block like titanium dioxide. Secondly, UVB protection doesn’t increase proportionately with the SPF number. For example, SPF 30 screens about ninety-seven percent of the UVB rays, whereas SPF 15 screens ninety-three percent (SPF 2 stops about only fifty percent). “The difference in protection between SPF 30 and anything higher is relatively negligible”, reports Dr. Fox.

“Another factor here is application”, adds Dr. Fox. Using too little or reapplying too infrequently effectively reduces a product’s SPF—and leaves you exposed to sun damage. “The rule is to apply about an ounce—an amount equal to that which would fill a standard shot glass—over your body and to reapply it every two hours, more often if you’re swimming, sweating or playing sports,” he advises. “Don’t let an astronomical SPF number give you a false sense of security. In fact, in 2009 the FDA came out with a new regulation prohibiting manufacturers from claiming SPF’s of greater than 50+.

Let’s face it: You look better—and healthier—with a tan. Many associate a suntan with wealth and success (picture those rich, leisure-class types on their tennis courts and yachts). “But a tan is nothing more than a record of sun damage”, says Dr. Fox. “It’s the evidence of all the ultraviolet radiation that your skin has been exposed to—and had to protect itself against.” Indeed, despite the evidence to the contrary, more than seventy percent of survey participants think people look more attractive with a tan. So instead of bucking the trend, Dr. Fox suggests using a self-tanner (with sunscreen, of course). “You’ll get that tanned look, but without the damage”, recommends Dr. Fox.

About Dr. Fox: Joshua L. Fox, M. D., F. A.A. D., earned his medical degree from the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed an internship at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, followed by a three-year dermatology residency at the New York University School of Medicine. A Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Fox is a leading authority in the field of dermatology, with an expertise in skin cancer, cosmetic surgery and laser procedures (http://www. advanceddermatologypc. com (http://www. advanceddermatologypc. com)). Dr. Fox has served as an expert resource on dermatologic topics for numerous television networks including ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, Telemundo, radio stations, newspapers and magazines. He is the founder and director of Advanced Dermatology, P. C. of New York and New Jersey and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery and is a spokesman for both the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Fox was the founder of the AAD Melanoma/Skin Cancer Prevention Program in Queens, New York since 1987 and continues today as a director and facilitator of various prevention screening programs annually. Dr. Fox is the founder of the non-profit New Age Skin Research Foundation whose role is to persevere in providing patient education and dermatologic research information to both public and physician alike.

Exchange 2007 SP1 Enhanced by Messageware

Exchange 2007 SP1 Enhanced by Messageware

Access Sharepoint and Public Folder contacts, Outlook-style addressing, Extend WebReady Document Viewing to over 300 file types, view side-by-side calendars.

(PRWEB) December 4, 2007

Toronto, Canada – Messageware (www. messageware. com), the world's leading provider of enterprise productivity and security solutions for Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access (OWA), today announced the availability of the Messageware OWA Suite for Microsoft Exchange 2007. Drawing on its position as a long-standing Microsoft Gold Certified partner, the company is introducing Exchange 2007 SP1 enhancements that improve the OWA user experience while adding critical security enhancements that keep security in the hands of Exchange Administrators and the IT department.

MessagewareÂ’s solutions are ideal for the majority of enterprises today that need to support a growing mobile workforce, whether that be employees using shared workstations when traveling, a sales force that works away from the desktop or students needing to collaborate outside of the classroom. Messageware OWA Suite 2007 extends the value of Exchange 2007 by enabling companies to use Outlook Web Access more securely and adding Outlook-like features that improve the user experience and save time when using email away from the desktop. Messageware OWA add-ons make OWA easier for the user, while giving Exchange administrators the confidence to deploy OWA without compromising security.

The cost-effective Suite consists of six award-winning security and productivity applications that seamlessly integrate with Exchange 2007 -- ActiveSend, AttachView, CalendarShare, NavGuard, Plus Pack, and TimeGuard. With ActiveSend, CalendarShare and Plus Pack, the user experience is improved by making Outlook Web Access more like Outlook, so emails and documents can be composed and sent easily. In addition, users can more efficiently schedule meetings and book resources such as conference rooms or equipment from any location. AttachView, NavGuard, and TimeGuard secure vulnerabilities in OWA that can expose entire email accounts or confidential documents to unauthorized users.

• AttachView – Extend and Enhance WebReady Document Viewing with over 300 file types, with granular security settings that put control in the hands of the administrator, not the user. AttachView also adds advanced viewing features such as the ability to view files without the native application, viewing Word documents in Final or Markup views, Zoom/Rotate and much more.

• Plus Pack – Intuitive, Outlook-like addressing, Rolodex-style address book, ability to create and manage unlimited Favorites, access to SharePoint contact lists, advanced Spell Check, roaming personal dictionaries and more.

• ActiveSend – Integrates OWA 2007 with Microsoft Office and desktop applications, allowing users to quickly and easily email files from within applications, using Outlook Web Access as the default email

• CalendarShare – Makes scheduling group meetings and managing shared resources easier by viewing multiple calendars side-by-side and delegate support that gives users access to view and edit appointments on behalf of others

• NavGuard – Protects against hijacking of abandoned OWA sessions by prompting when a user navigates away from an active OWA session, and requiring the user to either logoff or return to the active session. Security settings can be configured based on users, groups, IP addresses and corporate resources/notebooks.

• TimeGuard – Provides a user-friendly alternative to forms-based authentication, by prompting a user after a period of session inactivity, with the option to extend the session or logoff. Security settings can be configured based on users, groups, IP addresses and corporate resources/notebooks.

“Businesses today rely heavily on email for both internal and external communication and this communication needs to continue in the most effective and secure way possible, whether users are in the office or working remotely,” said Mark Rotman, President & CEO of Messageware. “By using Messageware’s OWA Suite for Outlook Web Access 2007, companies are able to keep employees productive from any location, minimize exposing confidential information to unauthorized people and overall, compete more effectively in an increasingly competitive business environment.”

MessagewareÂ’s OWA Suite for Exchange 2007 is priced per CPU based on an organizationÂ’s messaging environment. Small business pricing is available for enterprises with fewer than 100 mailboxes. For more information about MessagewareÂ’s solutions for Exchange 2007 visit www. messageware. com.
