Will Our Soldiers Get Gulf War Syndrome Again?

Will Our Soldiers Get Gulf War Syndrome Again?

Thousands of American Veterans who served in the last Guilf War suffered from an array of symptoms known as Gulf War Syndrome. Two outof every five Gulf War Vets are on disabiliyt costing milllons of dollars. Now we have another generation of service men and women who have been in a similar environment. Will we be seeing Gulf War Syndrome again and what can we do about it? What will the real cost of this war be? A best selling book has some answers.

(PRWEB) April 23, 2003

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gulf War Syndrome Again?

What will the real cost of the war be?

Los Angeles, CA—With our troops starting to return home is America headed for another bout of Gulf War Syndrome? Although only 148 were killed and 467 wounded in the first Gulf War, ten years later we have almost two out of every five Gulf War Veterans on disability.

Colonel Bob Wolfertz, a twenty-two-year veteran of the military, saw active duty in the first Gulf War. He is one of about 80,000 Gulf War veterans who experienced afflictions such as headaches, memory loss, fatigue, sleep disorders and intestinal and respiratory ailments, which have come to be known as Gulf War Syndrome.

Now his son is now serving in the military. He has concerns about what chemicals, toxins and depleted uranium (DU) weapons our soldiers may have been exposed to this time.

During the first Gulf War, American and British forces introduced armor-piercing ammunition made of depleted uranium, a radioactive and toxic waste. By war's end, more than 290,000 kilograms (640,000 pounds) of depleted uranium contaminated equipment and the soil on the battlefields.

“I’m proud of my son’s willingness to serve, but I’m concerned for him--as I am for all service people--and the threat they face today,” says Wolfertz. “I was proud to fight for freedom in the last war, but watching my son go to war is a very different experience.”

Apart from the depleted uranium weapons U. S. service members in the first Gulf War were exposed to burning oilfields, pesticides, vaccines and chemical warfare agents.. Research studies and medical care for these veterans have cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Though additional research is needed, it now appears that some veterans and civilians exposed to depleted uranium contamination are suffering health problems including kidney damage and cancers.

Now we have another generation of soldiers facing a potentially similar situation in Iraq. DU shells are being used again. DU contaminates land, causes ill-health and cancers among the soldiers using the weapons, the armies they target and civilians.

Gulf War Syndrome Again –2-

Colonel WolfertzÂ’ health problems began while he was still in Kuwait. Although he received medical care after Desert Storm, he found no relief. After some time the symptoms subsided but when he retired from the Marine Corp and moved back to New Hampshire, they started up again.

“I had this bad back ache and I started getting aches in other joints of my body,” said Wolfertz. “I had rashes that came and went. I got a recurring sty on my eye about every two weeks and I started getting really bad headaches, coupled with a lot of fatigue. I had short-term memory loss. I had no idea what was wrong with me--I just thought I was getting old.”

Then one night he saw a television program about veterans of the Gulf War suffering from unexplained physical problems. He immediately went into the Veterans Hospital in Manchester and was subsequently diagnosed with Gulf War Illness--but the doctor told him there was no treatment or cure. All they were doing was keeping a register of the veterans suffering form these ailments

While testifying before the Presidential Advisory Committee on Gulf War Illness in 1996, Wolfertz heard about a detoxification program based on the book Clear Body Clear Mind by L. Ron Hubbard. This New York Times bestselling book details a carefully researched program of nutrition, exercise and sauna to release toxins trapped in the fatty tissues of the body. The program has undergone independent scientific studies that confirm its results.

“When I started the program I had the sty in my eye, aches and pains in my body and active rashes,” said Wolfertz. On the second or third day Wolfertz was on the program he noticed a tan-colored stain on his towel. “I thought, 'What in the heck is this?' I changed towels and it appeared again. The junk coming out in my sweat was being deposited on the towel!” On the seventeenth day Wolfertz noticed black ooze coming out of the bottom of his feet.

Once all the toxins stopped coming out of his body he completed the program. In less than three weeks he was symptom free and remains so to this day. “It’s been a real blessing in my life,” said Wolfertz.

And it has given him peace of mind - he knows that should his son be exposed to any sort of chemicals and toxins it can be handled effectively.

Clear Body Clear Mind makes no medical claims and the benefits vary from person to person. The book is available at bookstores everywhere and further information can be found at www. clearbodyclearmind. com.

NEW FAST-FIT BULKHEAD CABLE AND PIPE PENETRATION SEAL FOR SHIPS AND OFFSHORE

NEW FAST-FIT BULKHEAD CABLE AND PIPE PENETRATION SEAL FOR SHIPS AND OFFSHORE

Shipbuilders and repairers face pressure from owners for rapid completion. Responding to this need Roxtec, pioneers of multi-diameter cable and pipe penetration sealing, have launched a new bulkhead and deck seal. RSX and RX kits can be installed in minutes, they require no hot work and speed fitting to cut man-hours and cost.

(PRWEB) June 28, 2003

Installation takes around ten minutes compared with several hours for a conventional multi-stage welding process. In a major improvement over bolted methods, the new system needs only one large diameter hole in the bulkhead - saving time but also safeguarding structural integrity by avoiding potential points for crack proliferation. Even better, the entire installation process can take place from one side of the bulkhead. This is a key benefit where services are congested and access to the back face of the bulkhead is restricted. Installing RSX and RX kits is usually a one-man job.

The Roxtec system is a cold installation process. Issues arising from hot work such as health and safety, preparation, masking, ventilation, cleaning and refinishing are eliminated. The Roxtec seals fit directly into the prepared opening. A sealing ring in the outer sleeve expands under compression to grip the bulkhead or deck and seals the frame to the aperture. The inner core is made up from concentric layers that are easy to peel away to fit cables or pipes of varying size. When this is inserted and subject to compression, it expands to grip both the cable or pipe and housing to provide a perfect seal.

Fittings are available for both single and multiple cable or pipe penetrations. They can be installed in barriers from three to ten millimetres thick, including A60 barriers. Systems are type tested to 4-bar pressure for both water and gas. Certificates of conformance from DNV are available from Roxtec Ltd.

RSX and RX seals are part of a complete family of long life and maintenance free marine cable and pipe penetration seals available from Roxtec. The company will advise on the most suitable seal for each application and provide full technical support.

All Natural Relief with Pomegranate: Just in time for September's Menopause Awareness

All Natural Relief with Pomegranate: Just in time for September's Menopause Awareness

Solid science about the powerful pomegranate has resulted in a new, completely safe and effective all natural solution to a common health concern of women of all ages: vaginal dryness. Pure, high quality plant-derived oils have been shown to soothe delicate tissues and increase natural moisture for women, especially during menopause.

Rochester, NY (PRWEB) September 2, 2009

Leave it to the team of pomegranate experts at Rochester, NY-based Pomegranate Health (www. pomhealth. com) to come up with this brand new, completely safe and effective, all natural solution to a common health concern of women of all ages: vaginal dryness. Women everywhere will want to know about how using only the highest quality, food grade extracts of pomegranate and other natural ingredients can help ease so many discomforts women experience each month that are associated with hormonal imbalances, peri-menopause, and menopause.

Here now -- right in time for September's Menopause Awareness Month -- is a reliable answer.

This latest development in pomegranate technology is ideal for all women who are seeking a highly effective vaginal moisturizer, one which has been meticulously formulated to provide on-going relief from vaginal dryness, itching, burning, and irritation, while promoting all natural tissue renewal. MoisturePom Vaginal Ointment was developed using pure extracts of the pomegranate; its innovative, all-natural formula represents a major achievement in women's health care. It is the result of years of diligent research and focused product development.

Vaginal dryness can be caused by many issues, including fluctuating hormone levels associated with menstrual cycles, peri-menopause, menopause, stress, and other lifestyle factors. Women want to use natural products they can trust; and that is why the researchers at Pomegranate Health created this new formula: MoisturePom provides an all natural solution - for women of all ages - by featuring the best that Mother Nature has to offer.

Pure, Food Grade Plant Oils ONLY … No Water, No Artificial Lubricants, No Chemicals

The ingredients in MoisturePom have been carefully selected, and consist ONLY of pure, plant-derived oils, each of which naturally contains an array of nutrients that are easily absorbed, providing fatty acids and antioxidants directly to the delicate vaginal tissue cells. This formulation is designed to help with the repair of thinning tissue (caused by aging) which allows the body to be able to produce its own moisture - naturally - not from artificial lubricants or petro-chemical coatings. In addition to the pure pomegranate extracts, the other ingredients are of the highest quality: extra virgin olive oil, cocoa seed butter, and coconut oil, all of which are natural, food-grade ingredients. Additional advantages of using these plant oils in this formula are that they absorb quickly into the skin tissue without blocking or sealing skin pores (as happens with mineral oils and petrolatum, neither of which contain any nutrients); they don't leave a greasy coating on the skin; and they wash off easily with soap and water.

It's All in the Ointment …
One key factor in MoisturePom's formulation is that it was specially created as a waterless ointment. This is important because skin tissues are naturally hydrophobic; one function of the skin is to block water, but skin tissue will easily absorb oils. That means that the water found in most skin care products just winds up evaporating! That's one of the key reasons why water-based products do not work very well, or not for very long. MoisturePom's waterless formula is designed to be easily absorbed, and remains stable without the addition of harsh chemical preservatives.

SAS unveils first CRM solution for pharma via ASP: SAS helps pharmaceutical companies optimize direct-to-consumer marketing campaigns

SAS unveils first CRM solution for pharma via ASP: SAS helps pharmaceutical companies optimize direct-to-consumer marketing campaigns

SAS released IntelliVisor for Pharma, an application service provider (ASP) solution designed for pharmaceutical companies who want to understand and optimize the effectiveness of their direct-to-consumer advertising while minimizing project risks and technology costs.

(PRWEB) March 28, 2002

CARY, N. C. (March 25, 2002) – SAS, the leader in business intelligence, today announced the release of IntelliVisorSM for Pharma, an application service provider (ASP) solution designed for pharmaceutical companies who want to understand and optimize the effectiveness of their direct-to-consumer advertising while minimizing project risks and technology costs. This new ASP solution follows SAS’ June 2001 introduction of IntelliVisor for Retail, which helps retailers improve Web site return on investment. With more than 20 IntelliVisor customer sites already running, this ASP business model has proven its ability to deliver rapid ROI.

IntelliVisor for Pharma delivers quick returns. In as little as two weeks, IntelliVisor begins analyzing masses of complex e-business data. Decision makers receive daily reports containing the information they need to field test marketing programs efficiently, fine tune campaign strategies and improve customer knowledge. Already in use by early adopters, the new ASP solution is helping pharmaceuticals build stronger brand awareness in targeted consumer segments.

IntelliVisorSM helps pharmaceuticals optimize direct-to-consumer campaigns

The pharmaceutical industry is a highly competitive global market. Companies expend enormous amounts of time and money in bringing new drugs to market. According to Tufts UniversityÂ’s Center for the Study of Drug Development, it costs an average of $802 million over 12 years to develop a new drug. Pharmaceutical companies must optimize direct-to-consumer marketing campaigns to leverage marketing and advertising dollars for maximum impact. With the dramatic increase in the number of online users accessing health care information online, the Web is the ideal venue for capturing data about consumer segments in order to understand behavior. The difficulty lies in assimilating and making sense of this massive quantity of Web data. IntelliVisor synthesizes large volumes of disparate consumer data across channels, business functions and customer contact points to help decision makers understand and predict consumer segment behaviors. IntelliVisor then helps these executives and managers identify and affect the key metrics to improve new drug marketing strategies and brand awareness in targeted consumer segments.

“IntelliVisor’s powerful analytics and rapid start-up are a winning combination for pharmaceutical companies needing to speed adoption of new brands and gain a competitive advantage,” said Jim Davis, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at SAS. “For pharmaceutical companies, IntelliVisor returns come from understanding how viewing TV ads, banners and print ads increases the likelihood to visit a recommended pharmaceutical Web page for more information, and talk with the physician about the drug, request a prescription, and get the new prescription filled. IntelliVisor helps its clients uncover and leverage those important consumer insights.”

“SAS IntelliVisor for Pharma embodies 25 years of pharmaceutical experience. The FDA recognized that expertise in pharmaceuticals when it named SAS as the standard for companies to present electronic submissions for new drugs. As part of a 1999 FDA effort to automate major portions of the drug development and approval process, SAS became a critical part of speeding up the delivery of new, more effective drugs to patients in need,” said Bob Moran, research vice president and managing director of the Aberdeen Group. “IntelliVisor for Pharma is a logical new offering for SAS and a significant benefit to companies that compete on a brand level.”

IntelliVisorSM for Pharma provides rapid, secure and reliable service

Each day, IntelliVisor customers supply e-business activity data over an encrypted and secure link to SAS. IntelliVisor adds this daily data to a secure data warehouse, hosted by SAS and fueled by the computing power of technology partner Compaq. From the SAS data warehouse, IntelliVisor produces daily reports on Web page hits, bytes transferred, browsers used and many other activities. IntelliVisorÂ’s sophisticated analytics reveal what factors have the most impact on business success. After these factors are identified, they can be closely monitored via a strategic framework that shows the pharmaceutical company how well it is meeting strategic objectives each day. IntelliVisor also provides a daily report of how current marketing results compare to expectations. IntelliVisor comes with a 99 percent uptime service level warranty.

College distance learning programs increased their revenues by a mean of 9.67% in 2003, according to a new survey published by Primary Research Group, “The Survey of Distance & Cyberlearning Programs in Higher Education, 2004 Edition" (ISBN# 1-57440-066-5)

College distance learning programs increased their revenues by a mean of 9.67% in 2003, according to a new survey published by Primary Research Group, “The Survey of Distance & Cyberlearning Programs in Higher Education, 2004 Edition" (ISBN# 1-57440-066-5).

(PRWEB) February 8, 2004

College distance learning programs increased their revenues by a mean of 9.67% in 2003, according to a new survey published by Primary Research Group, “The Survey of Distance & Cyberlearning Programs in Higher Education, 2004 Edition" (ISBN# 1-57440-066-5). Growth was slightly faster among 4-year than 2-year colleges. Private colleges increased revenues by a mean of less than 6%.

The report presents the results of a survey of 71 college distance learning programs conducted from September 2003 to January 2004. The sample includes fifty 4-year colleges, and twenty community colleges. The mean equivalent full time attendance for the colleges in the sample was 10,270 for all programs, not just distance learning, with a median of 6,300. The largest college in the sample had more than 39,000 students while the smallest had 140.

Increasingly, distance learning programs are drawing traditional students who are already enrolled in the college’s 2 or 4 year traditional on-campus course programs. In the mid and late 1990’s, when distance learning truly began to establish itself in North American colleges, the catalyst for growth initially was hard-to-reach or hard-to-serve populations such as the disabled, single mothers, fully-employed adults, and individuals residing in remote areas or employed in professions that mandated frequent travel or remote quarters such as military personnel. However, state universities and junior colleges have integrated distance learning into traditional programs to help lower overall educational costs and increasing distance learning enrollment.

The mean growth rate of enrollment of the distance learning programs in the sample was a rocket-like 27.64%, although some of this growth has probably cannibalized enrollment in traditional classes. The mean rate of growth in courses offered by the distance learning programs in the sample was a shade more than 15% with little variation in this figure among different sizes and types of college distance learning programs,

North American programs are also reaching overseas for students. A full 13% of the distance learning programs in the sample offer at least some of their courses to students in other nations through colleges in foreign countries.

OTHER FINDINGS OF THE STUDY INCLUDE:

 The two most commonly used course web authorship programs in use were Dreamweaver and Macromedia Authorware.

 Nearly 87% of programs in the sample offer some form of virtual reference to their students.

 More than 20% of survey participants provided courses to prisons, while more than 17% provided courses to particular healthcare organizations such as local hospitals or clinics.

 The median increase in tuition for the distance learning classes in the sample was 6%, with a mean increase of 10%. Public colleges and colleges with higher FTE enrollments raised their tuition prices more than private colleges or those with smaller FTE enrollments.

 The average cost per credit hour for the DL programs in the sample was $195, with a median cost of $166.50.

 About 20% of the programs in the sample felt that they frequently competed for students with for-profit educational institutions such as the University of Phoenix, but most program directors felt that they did not really compete with such programs or that they competed with such programs only sometimes

The report is available directly from Primary Research Group or through major book distributors. The study has more than 100 pages and more than 300 tables of data and sells for $98.50.

Canadian Pharmacies – A Cure for Medicare Confusion

Canadian Pharmacies – A Cure for Medicare Confusion

American seniors are being inundated with promotional materials about the Medicare Part D prescription program. The complexity of its design has been compounded by an overwhelming array of private plans resulting in mass confusion and anxiety. Canadian Pharmacies like CanadaDiscountRx. com can be a haven from all the hype and hard sell.

Winnipeg, Canada (PRWEB) November 23, 2005

The opening week of the Medicare Part D enrollment period was marked by a barrage of sales and promotional pitches directed at American seniors by large health insurance companies. In efforts to attract a profitable new base of clients, these companies rolled out a dizzying variety of plans all advertised to rescue seniors from exorbitant drug prices. But clearly the $725 Billion program does little to address the core issue of high drug prices – it merely masks it with a layer of insurance that may or may not offer savings on drug purchases.

Like any insurance policy, trying to pick the right one can be a roll of the dice with consequences for both your health and pocketbook. Once selected, you are locked into your plan for a year even if your prescription needs change. Caveats and exceptions can make the overall decision process a tedious and difficult challenge. As such, it may be in your best interest to consider a Canadian pharmacy before you make any final decisions.

“It’s like Blind Man’s Bluff,” says Ian Bergman, President of CanadaDiscountRx. “Medicare D can be beneficial but it seems to hinge on some guesswork and circumstantial luck. That’s why there is a great opportunity for seniors to consider Canadian medications as an alternative or even a compliment to the Medicare program. Taking advantage of both may be the solution.”

Bergman also indicates that Canadian pharmacies like CanadaDiscountRx (www. CanadaDiscountrx. com) do not discriminate on income or restrict formularies. As a rule, medications from Canada are more affordable than Medicare Part D and come with far fewer exceptions. “CanadaDiscountRx does not sell insurance, we dispense affordable medicine. The difference is a prescription service that is comprehensive, not confusing. In fact, we now provide toll free Medicare consultations that analyze the best overall options for a patient.”

This holiday season CanadaDiscountRx (www. CanadaDiscountRx. com) is pleased to offer a gift to its valued patients – simple, safe and affordable medications and with any order before December 30th, 2005 patients will receive FREE shipping (a value of $ 15.95).

Call 1-866-744-9144 now to take advantage of this special offer.

CanadaDiscountRx is a licensed pharmacy in Winnipeg, Canada (Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association license #32274) and has safely served thousands of Canadian and American patients for several years. All Canadian drugs are regulated by Health Canada and dispensed by licensed pharmacists. A prescription is required for new orders.

Marble Hill, GA (Vocus) September 13, 2010

Atlantax Payroll Solutions, LLC (APS) (http://www. PayrollAPS. com) is a new Georgia payroll company that was launched to serve small businesses in the southeast U. S. The Company’s mission is to rescue the small business owner from the large impersonal payroll service bureaus that do not understand the needs of small business (http://www. payrollaps. com/small-business-payroll. html). The idea behind the firm is to provide the small business owner the time to focus on growing their business by leaving payroll processing to APS. With APS in charge of their payroll processing small business owners won’t have to worry about changing tax laws, complex reporting requirements, using company resources for payroll processing or being at the mercy of large and impersonal payroll service bureaus.

Atlantax Payroll Solutions was formed from a joint venture between the owners of two highly experienced tax businesses, Atlantax Systems and DO CPA Services. Gary Rhodus, founder and owner of Atlantax Systems, has operated his highly successful sales tax processing business for over 20 years. CPA Deborah Osgood’s accounting business has been delivering CPA services to small businesses for over 27 years. APS was founded by combining the skills of these two entrepreneurs and their combined business services. The company is staffed with team of CPAs and payroll specialists (http://www. payrollaps. com/atlantax-difference. html) trained and equipped to handle any type of payroll challenge. Capital Murder Defendant Released on Bond, Accused of Murdering 7-Year-Old

Capital Murder Defendant Released on Bond, Accused of Murdering 7-Year-Old

Capital Murder Defendant Released on House Arrest, allowed to continue working at law firm, and having continued contact with her sons after allegedly murdering 7 year-old Kayla Allen with an insecticide poison used for pig, sheep, and cattle farms; a granular form of Atroban.

Jacksonville, NC (PRWEB) February 22, 2006

Carolyn Futrell was released on House Arrest after bond was set at $200,000.00 for the defendant in the capital murder of 7 year-old Kayla Yvonne Allen. Futrell is alleged to have murdered Kayla on August 24, 2003. Futrell was arrested on May 20, 2004, nine months later. According to the autopsy report, the cause of death is the imploding of a granular insecticide poison used for pig, sheep, and cattle farms, Atroban, into her stomach, causing her to aspirate the poison into her lungs, bursting the air sacs.

The Child Protective Services had investigated over 13 allegations of abuse of Kayla prior to her death. Onslow County Child Protective Services was unable to substantiate any claims of abuse; Onslow County also has the highest death toll of children than any other county in North Carolina.

One abuse report was taken by the Taylor, Michigan Police Department, wherein 6 year-old Kayla gave the officer detailed explanations for the bruises on her head, arms, and buttocks, stating “Mommy, Aunt Carolyn” did it by beating her head against her dresser, whipping her with a spatula and a spoon, and her arms were covered in finger bruises due to Futrell’s grabbing hold of Kayla as she beat her about her head and buttocks. Child Protective Services in Onslow County NC determined Kayla had received these bruises while roller skating.

According to Futrell’s defense attorney, Rick Miller, “The seriousness of the crime doesn’t predict the defendant will fail to appear in court or commit another crime.” Miller also cited the weight of the evidence stating there had been no confession and no witnesses had come forward.

It is known that Carolyn Futrell was at home, alone with 7 year-old Kayla when Kayla died. There are no witnesses because Kayla is dead. Following Kayla's death, Futrell gave three contradicting statements as to the cause of death.

Miller stated he could not set a court date because he had not received a toxicology report from Carolinas Poison Control. With the aide of Dr. Sudakin, MD, MPH, a toxicologist who is board certified in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine, as well as the subspecialty of Medical Toxicology, it was determined that Atroban 40 & 50, granular insecticide poison had been delivered to Murphy Farms, where Futrell’s relatives had worked.

Kayla was murdered on August 24, 2003, and due to lack of acquiring the single report from Carolinas Poison Control, Miller stated he could not agree to a date for trial. Miller waited 13 months before motioning the courts for discovery documentation that according to Assistant DA Ernest Lee, Miller had already received.

Hope4KidZ, Inc. became aware of Kayla Yvonne Allen’s abuse in Jan. 2003, reported by her Aunt Heather of Michigan. Kayla’s Aunt and Uncle had reported possible abuse of Kayla from the time she was 2 years-old and had an unexplainable black eye. The last report was made one month before Kayla was murdered. Although Heather and Tim had tried to gain custody of their niece, the NC Child Protective Services would not consider them for placement. They had been licensed as foster parents and have two children of their own.

Child Murders are considered the most monstrous of all murders because the victim is a defenseless child.

Hope4KidZ, Inc. stands against Onslow County Judge Lanier’s decision to allow Futrell to bond out of jail and be placed on House Arrest where she will continue to work at the law firm directly across the street from the courthouse.

Hope4KidZ, Inc. is asking for an investigation into why Judge Henry, who had ordered No Bond and has been the sitting judge, had to step down allowing Judge Lanier to set such a low bond in a capital murder case.

According to Hope4KidZ, Inc., allowing Carolyn Futrell to be released from jail on a $20 Grand bond is a gross miscarriage of justice and should not be allowed. She has been charged with murdering one child and, according to Jacksonville Daily News, continues to have access to her young sons.

Business Health Services Named Baltimore SmartCEO Future 50 Winner for Third Straight Year

For the third year in a row, Baltimore SmartCEO magazine and Hartman Business Technology selected Business Health Services as one of the Future 50 winners.

(PRWEB) February 6, 2008

For the third year in a row, Baltimore SmartCEO magazine and Hartman Business Technology selected Business Health Services as one of the Future 50 winners.

The Future 50 program identifies the 50 fastest growing companies in the Greater Baltimore area based on employee and revenue growth. This year’s Future 50 winners collectively employ 5,500 people and have brought in more than $2 billion in revenues.

Business Health Services (BHS) is a Workplace Wellness and Behavioral Risk Management Provider. With over 20 years experience, BHS specializes in delivering workplace wellness, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), work-life balance and organizational development solutions to organizations nationwide. BHS partners with its client organizations to identify their unique workplace risks and develop customized solutions to minimize those risks, improve workplace productivity and generate a measurable Return on Investment.

Dawn Motovidlak, President/CEO of Business Health Services, obtained her role by purchasing BHS in 1999. Since then, Ms. Motovidlak has acquired two major competitors and has grown the company over 800%. Ms. Motovidlak understands the importance of growth and how to achieve it, “Growth has meant responsibly building our client base both organically and through acquisition as well as creating new service offerings while maintaining our commitment to high quality, customized services. We have been able to get to this point by continuously assessing and adjusting our infrastructure to ensure we are prepared and by putting the right people in the right positions.”

The common theme among many of the Future 50 CEOs is how key professional mentors have played a role in their current successes. “The Future 50 program is about celebrating growth, which cannot be done without the help and support of others. Whether it is a parent, business partner or previous employer, we see the value and impact these individuals have and feel privileged to be part of the celebration of how far these CEOs and their companies have come,” says SmartCEO Publisher Craig Burris.

Ms. Motovidlak appreciates the support she receives from her professional mentor, “I purchased a business from Reed Morrison. That business was the foundation for what Business Health Services is today. Not only did Reed give me an extraordinary opportunity, he gave me the courage and support I needed to take over his business at the young age of 27. There were times when I questioned my abilities and Reed was always there supporting me and telling me that I could do this.”

Winners will be recognized at the Baltimore SmartCEO Future 50 event, scheduled for Jan. 24, 2008, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront hotel. Serving as keynote speaker for this year’s event is former Baltimore Colts player, Tom Matee. Matee played for the Colts for 12 years and played in two Super Bowls, earning a ring at Super Bowl V when the Colts beat the Dallas Cowboys. To support Matee’s organization, 4th and Goal, a silent auction will be held at the event.

Baltimore SmartCEO magazine is a regional “growing company” publication aimed at providing resources each month to help educate, motivate and inspire Baltimore’s decision-makers. The publication’s readers range from younger, dynamic companies, to established multi-generational, family-owned firms.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 16, 2006

Twenty years ago, Fred Morton was a busy banker and trader who was overwhelmed with the stress of his job. After trying various "conventional" treatments, he decided to try acupuncture to attempt to cure himself. He was amazed with the dramatic benefits that the gained from the treatment and decided to start "the humble healer".

"This business really came from what I saw was lacking in the world,” said Fred Morton. "The treatment that is usually given is lacking in the human and spiritual element, and I sought to try to practice holistic healing. I call myself the humble healer because I do not have any kind of special powers or ability to miraculously heal. Rather, I use simple practices that have been used for thousands of years and blend them with modern science to create a real healing experience."

Mr. Morton is also a leading practitioner of Kabalistic healing techniques. After being urged to follow his lineage, he began to study with the Kabalistic Healing Rabbi Goldhamer and now utilize Kabalistic Healing practices during healing sessions.

Many other forms of spiritual and holistic healing are offered such as sound acupressure, Reiki, Thai medical massage, CranioSacral therapy, Polarity Therapy and EFT. These various techniques are used in varying capacities to create a healing experience for the person undergoing it. The Humble Healer also teaches his clients and holds classes on energy balancing techniques and how to focus on well-being.

Animals are also a prime candidate for healing sessions and many pet owners have described almost miraculous healings from their companion animals shortly after the sessions with The Humble Healer. CranioSacral Therapy, Polarity Therapy, Sound Acupressure, Reiki and Kabalistic Healing Prayer are all available services for pets.

"Everyone has a different experience in the healing sessions" said Mr. Morton. "The experience has been described as "going on vacation" or "being in between worlds". It is very relaxing and often clients see colors or images that they have never seen before. I do not so much bring about this as I help channel the energies of the Creator into the person being healed. But I don’t just provide a band-aid, I empower clients to take charge of their own health and maintain it while assisting them with their current problem.”

New Book Encourages Community Action to Rescue the Mentally Ill

New Book Encourages Community Action to Rescue the Mentally Ill

Larry Hayes has written a book that rescues mental illness from the shadows and appeals to people in local communities to help their neighbors triumph over mental disorders so everyone may benefit.

Fort Wayne, IN (PRWEB) December 8, 2008

Communities can help people overcome mental illness by spreading awareness and assistance as modeled by award-winning author and mental illness advocate, Larry Hayes in "Mental Illness and Your Town" (ISBN 9781932690767, Loving Healing Press, 2008).

"Mental Illness and Your Town" is a roadmap for individuals to advocate within their community to help those who suffer to find relief, joy and a return to normalcy. Written with authority and compassion, author Larry Hayes retells the stories of people who have triumphed over mental illness and how local communities can transform themselves so the mentally ill are cared for in a manner that benefits everyone.

Anyone concerned about the mentally ill will find "Mental Illness and Your Town" a revealing study of how individuals and communities can fight for a treatment revolution to enrich and save lives. Hayes discusses not only the history of mental illness and how the closing of institutions have relegated mental illness to doctor's offices, but why more funding is needed and more community education is imperative to improve the current situation.

Hayes writes with first-hand knowledge about mental illness, having been hospitalized himself with depression, and having watched family members struggle with mental illness. Hayes calls people to lobby locally for the mentally ill by writing to newspaper editors, becoming involved in local chapters of NAMI (National Association for the Mentally Ill), and inviting experts on mental illness to speak to local organizations and churches. Mental illness affects everyone in a community directly or indirectly. The time has come for this illness to be understood and for action to be taken to resolve the situation at the community level.

Experts applaud "Mental Illness and Your Town." Stephen C. McCaffrey, President of Mental Health America of Indiana declares, "Larry Hayes provides families with a real self-help manual that is personal and compassionate, yet practical and hands-on." Pete Early, author of "CRAZY: A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness" says, "Larry Hayes uses his family's story to offer practical suggestions about how communities can help persons with mental illnesses recover and thrive. This is a wonderful blueprint…." James Howell, Ph. D. and Juvenile child researcher, states, "Larry Hayes demonstrates…the ability to reduce complex social problems to simple terms. In addition, he fills the book with practical solutions and ways to reduce the sometimes debilitating effects of mental illness."

About the Author
Larry Hayes has won over fifty state and national awards for editorials and columns in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette. In 1986, he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in recognition of his editorials challenging his city to desegregate its schools. Hayes was instrumental in Indiana's victorious fight to win parity of health insurance for persons with a mental illness. He introduced the Crisis Intervention Team to help city police better respond to mental health crises, and he won support for the creation of the Suicide Prevention Council and a county-wide Mental Health Coordinating Council. Hayes played a key role in building public support for the Carriage House, a highly acclaimed rehabilitation center, and he successfully lobbied Indiana University Purdue University, Fort Wayne to create the Institute for Behavior Studies. Hayes is also the author of the memoir "Monday I'll Save the World."

"Mental Illness and Your Town" (ISBN 9781932690767, Loving Healing Press, 2008) can be purchased through local and online bookstores. For more information including podcasts, visit www. communitymentalhealth. us. Publicity contact: www. ReaderViews. com. Review copies available upon request.

Barnes & Noble. com Announces "Hottest Books of the Season"

Barnes & Noble. com Announces "Hottest Books of the Season"

Number one ranked bookseller releases its list of the 'Hottest Books of the Season.' The list of consumer favorites and top sellers includes books by former president Bill Clinton, entertainer Rikki Lee Travolta, thriller writer Dan Brown, and television's Dr. Phil.

(PRWEB) July 18, 2004

Barnes & Noble. com, the world's largest bookseller, has announced the memoir "My Life" by former president Bill Clinton, novel "My Fractured Life" by Rikki Lee Travolta, mystery "R is for Ricochet" by Sue Grafton, and horror story "The Lake House" by James Patterson among its "Hottest Books of the Season."

"My Life" is the self-penned, candid account of Clinton's life from his tumultuous childhood through his years in the Whitehouse.

"(Clinton's) life is too fascinating, his mind too brilliant, his desire to charm too strong to permit him to produce a boring book. The combination of analytic and emotional intelligence that made him a great politician now makes him a compelling raconteur," states Washington Post critic Walter Isaacson.

Named a Top Ten recommendation by Amazon. com, Travolta's "My Fractured Life" has drawn comparisons to "Catcher in the Rye" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" for its stormy antihero and self-deprecating dark humor.

Set against the backdrop of Hollywood's underbelly, "My Fractured Life" is the story of faded stars struggling to adjust to life outside of the spotlight as they discover there is little calling for former celebrities in the real world job market.

"Rikki Lee Travolta is a very versatile writer, moving easily from fiction and drama into pop culture," states Kirk Landers of James Informational Media.

The 18th offering in the Kinsey Millhone detective series (following 2002's "P is for Peril"), Grafton's "R is for Ricochet" has the sexy female private investigator babysitting a newly paroled daughter of privilege with visions of revenge on her former employer.

"Grafton's series remains fresh and exciting, with complex plots and well-developed characters," states Wilda Williams of the Library Journal.

A follow-up to the 1998 novel "When the Wind Blows" about children genetically engineered to fly, Patterson's "The Lake House" is a mixture of the science fiction and suspense genres in which the human-bird hybrid children are caught in a legal battle as their rescuers turned surrogate parents try to gain custody.

"The pages move like the wind," states Publisher's Weekly in its praise of the fast moving novel.

Titles on Barnes & Noble's hot list will be available to online customers at 30 to 40% savings and will be designated to online shoppers with a special Summer Sale savings icon.

"Serving customers is our highest priority," said Marie Toulantis, chief executive officer, in a statement.

Summer Horror-Days Embarrassed Mums Struggle to Control Tearaway Kids

Summer Horror-Days Embarrassed Mums Struggle to Control Tearaway Kids

A survey of over 5000 mums by Equazen eye q and Netmums. com has found that nearly half (41 percent) of mums claim their children are more prone to squabbling and bad behaviour when they're not at school.

London, UK (PRWEB) August 6, 2008

British mums are despairing of the long summer holidays, embarrassed and burnt out by their tiny terrors.

A survey of over 5000 mums by Equazen eye q and Netmums. com has found that nearly half (41 percent) of mums claim their children are more prone to squabbling and bad behaviour when they're not at school.

The strain of kids behaving badly is worsened by the shame associated with tantrums in supermarkets and on the beach, with more than half (55 percent) of those questioned feeling embarrassed by what other people think when their child misbehaves in public.

What should be a time of rest and enjoyment can become fraught with guilt for mums, with 61 percent blaming themselves when their child is naughty. Meanwhile a fifth (20 percent) believe that teachers do a better job of controlling their child's behaviour than they do.

Bad behaviour during the summer holidays also impacts on parents' relationships, with over half (52 percent) of couples battling about the best approach to discipline their brood. However, 40 percent of parents do agree on one thing - that the six-week summer holidays are too long.

Taking time out from the chaos of motherhood is what most mums need to clear their head but only a third of mums plan to do so.

Siobhan Freegard, Netmums. com founder and parenting expert says:

"The summer holidays can be a challenging time for families but it needn't be a miserable time for mums! It just takes a little thought and preparation to make things a lot easier - simple steps like trying to introduce a bit of routine into your kids' day and making sure they have lots of exercise, fresh air and have a balanced diet can make a real difference to their behaviour."

Research on children with behavioural difficulties has shown that supplementing the diet with a fatty acid supplement may improve behaviour, concentration and performance (Portwood, M. (2006) The role of dietary fatty acids in children's behaviour and learning. Nutrition and Health, 18, 23-247), helping to keep children healthy and happy during both holidays and term-time.

Home Sellers Find New Ways to Get the Most Value for Their Home

Home Sellers Find New Ways to Get the Most Value for Their Home

In a competitive real estate market, home sellers are finding tips online on how to increase the value of their home; without spending a lot of money doing so.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) March 13, 2006

Nancy Johnson is a single woman who teaches kindergarten. She had inherited her grandmother’s home back in 1995 and was looking for ways to get the most value out of the home.

Nancy said, "its a small two-bedroom bungalow that lies in a suburb that borders a large city; the home essentially sits on a small city lot. I’ve lived here for a few years, but I would like to sell so I can move further into the suburbs to be closer to my work, but I only have a couple thousand dollars to fix it up for the sale."

The question Nancy and many others in her position ask is: Where and how should I begin?

Most experts agree that as long your roof and foundation are sound, you are in very good shape to sell, but there are steps to take to insure that you get your asking price.

William Anderson, a home consultant, reminds sellers that there are simple ways to increase a home's value without spending a lot of money.

"The first step begins with cleaning—inside and out. Clear your front and back yard of any debris. Clear out your garage of any excess clutter. If you cannot part with garage and household items, than consider an inexpensive storage unit off the premises," he said.

"Next, scour the inside of the house—walls, floors, sinks, tubs, doors, etc…If you have a pet, consider ripping out the carpeting; it holds odors and a bare floor can easily be made attractive with decorative accents. Do not neglect basement or attic if your home has these attributes. Once you have cleaned from top to bottom, the real fun begins," he continued.

He noted that curb appeal, or the measure of what the prospective buyer sees first, is most important when fixing up your place to sell.

"Start outside because this is what prospective buyers will see first. If it’s a brick bungalow, than you’ve just saved a considerable expense on outside paint. If it requires a new coat of paint, than so be it," he said.

He suggested that you choose a neutral color to the house. Even if you are more partial to lively colors, you don't want to turn off a buyer in case they are more conservative or what a home with a traditional look. Keep it simple is always good advice.

He also noted that simple additions such as window boxes of whatever you are able to care for—green foliage plants or colorful perennials would suit. He added, "If your porch is a bit crumbly, patch it up and also give it a coat of paint. Fresh paint is the elixir of house sales. You may paint the railing as well, but spending a bit of your savings on a new one is a good option."

Other touches he suggested would make your home stand out may be to add a brass house number (http://www. onlinediscountmart. com/house-numbers. html) and an outdoor brass lighting fixture—something hanging is more dramatic, but a sconce style works too. If brass is not to your taste, consider wrought iron. A single stone planter (http://www. onlinediscountmart. com/decorative-planters. html) for the porch is another welcoming touch.

"But nothing cutesy like a plastic bunny sporting a wilting fern," he said, "Be sophisticated and simple—even if this is not to your liking. You want to give your buyers a clean slate so they can imagine their own belongings there. Don’t forget, to keep steps and walkways clear."

While you are out front, you have plenty to consider on the landscaping front. Be sure the plants on your property are healthy. Pruning large trees is more affordable than having them removed if they are indeed unattractive. Get rid of messy shrubbery that hides the view of your home. If the planting area in front of the house is messy, clear it and purchase some simple wooden trellises to prop against the wall. Climbing tea roses, English ivy or any other climbing plant or vine will add a delightful touch.

He continued, "A well maintained lawn instantly attracts a buyer to your house. If you have dead spots, patch them. If the edging needs to be done, do it. If you can afford a sod lawn, this might be a good place to spend some money. An alternative to the lawn would be an easy-to-maintain ground cover like creeping phlox. When it is not in bloom, it appears as tufts of luxuriant grass."

When decorating the inside, don’t be afraid to shop at flea markets and bargain retail stores. Arrange your furniture so that rooms appear airy and uncrowded. Consider a plain hanging light fixture for the front hall and dining area. You may want to sand and refinish your wood floors; this is labor intensive, but something you could do yourself for results dramatic results. Paint your walls an antique or off white and keep pictures to a minimum. Consider adding the following accents:

Area rugs, new plumbing fixtures, new door handles, decorative fireplace screen (http://www. onlinediscountmart. com/metal-fireplace-screens. html), ceiling hooks and hanging plants for windows, painted cabinets (if they need it!), grout your bathtub and replace grimy tile and add fresh draperies or shades. Optional ideas to incorporate—if you can afford them would be to: lay a small backyard patio, new awnings, fresh mulch for flowerbeds and to ring trees, new shrubs, new bathroom vanity and toilet, newly paved walkways and drive, painted garage, new kitchen floor, new mailbox, etc…

By taking many of these measures, sellers should be able to keep their asking price firm and possibly bump up the price. No need to do anything too major like add built in bookshelves or window seats—buyers may not need or want these more permanent features. Try to fix up what is already there. to save money. Clean and uncluttered is the look you want for a successful sale.

Growth in Biologics Market Continues to Drive Injectable Drug Delivery Industry

Growth in Biologics Market Continues to Drive Injectable Drug Delivery Industry

As competition in the pharmaceutical marketplace grows, companies are increasingly looking towards the drug delivery industry to maximize revenues and combat generic competitors. The search for more efficient drug delivery systems is also being driven by the rise in patient demand, healthcare and pharma cost containment, as much as by medical and technological advances.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) October 17, 2006

As competition in the pharmaceutical marketplace grows, companies are increasingly looking towards the drug delivery industry to maximize revenues and combat generic competitors. The search for more efficient drug delivery systems is also being driven by the rise in patient demand, healthcare and pharma cost containment, as much as by medical and technological advances.

The global market for drug delivery technology is worth in excess of US$25 billion in sales. Given its predicted annual growth of 15 percent, the market represents a considerable business opportunity, which has been reflected in the increasing number of drug delivery specialists. According to Arrowhead Publishers’ new report entitled Injectable Drug Delivery: Market Impact and Industry Trends, injectables currently account for an estimated 15 percent of the global drug delivery market, with the US being the leading individual market.

Despite tough competition from other drug delivery systems, oral in particular, due to its convenient mode of administration – injectable drug delivery systems hold considerable commercial potential, especially in relation to the delivery of biologics as well as mass vaccination requirements. Injectable technology is an essential component of the burgeoning biotechnology industry. No other delivery routes have proven to be as effective at delivering biologics as injectable delivery methods have been.

At present, over 400 genetically engineered drugs are under development as injectables. A growing number of pharmaceutical-biotechnology collaborations are illustrating the importance of the field as a new revenue-generator. Collaborative efforts are often the only way to profitability for smaller drug delivery companies, with pharmaceutical giants – including Pfizer, Roche, Novartis, to name but a few - also benefiting by replenishing their drug pipelines and adding greater value to their existing products.

The development of and the therapeutic advances provided by biotechnology will stimulate research into new methods of drug delivery, and especially that of injectables as they remain the most suitable method of administering proteins and large molecules. At present, over 300 products are under development in the field of biotechnology, with a high percentage of monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) that are difficult to administer by non-invasive systems, but are expected to account for over one-third of total pharmaceutical sales in the coming years. Therefore, the injectable technology, and in particular, needleless therapies, will continue to provide a commercial impetus to pharmaceutical and drug delivery companies.

Injectable Drug Delivery: Market Impact and Industry Trends examines the current trends in the injectables market, with a focus on the main players, key therapeutic areas and products, and the future of the sector.
