Who Can Get Mesothelioma? Mesothelioma is linked to exposure to asbestos. Individuals who served in the US Navy, oil refinery workers, ship yard workers, power plant workers, chemical industry workers, automotive repair specialists, construction workers, plumbers, demolition contractors, were all exposed to asbestos in the 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, 1070's, and 1980's. Tragically, one third of all US mesothelioma victims served in the United States navy. The group says, "the worst thing about a mesothelioma cancer diagnosis is typically it comes out of the blue. Frequently, an individual served in the US Navy, worked in a power plant, an oil refinery, or a shipyard decades ago, they get pneumonia type symptoms, it does not get better, and the doctors finally figure out its mesothelioma." http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter. Com

The group says, " we are warning mesothelioma victims about so called mesothelioma law firms advertising on cable TV, radio, or on the Internet. About 80% of the time the law firms are marketing law firms, looking to sell a mesothelioma lawsuit to the highest bidder. We think this is wrong-call us & we will give you the contact information for the best, and most successful mesothelioma trial law firms in the US-no middlemen." Obese Man Launches Podcast, Blog and Forum to Chronicle his 120 lb. Loss and to Inspire Others

Obese Man Launches Podcast, Blog and Forum to Chronicle his 120 lb. Loss and to Inspire Others

An anonymous Florida man by the name of Dave O. has launched a podcast, blog and interactive forum to support the obese community and to chronicle his 120 pound weight loss challenge. Dave says "With the childhood and adult obesity epidemic on the rise at alarming proportions each month, our children may die before we do!" The podcast has an associated website and interactive forum that allows people to post entries based on various topics from ispiration all the way to recipes.

Hollywood, FL (PRWEB) August 27, 2006

ZAP120.com is the latest weight loss podcast to hit the streets. It is already in the top 100 of iTunes "Health" podcasts and only has been around for 1 week. Why the success? The content is an audio chronicle of one anonymous man's weight loss journey. The podcaster, only known as Dave O., will chronicle his life for the next year and a half to two years while he loses 120 pounds. Mr. "O" has been diagnosed with morbid obesity, high tryglicerides and pre - Type II diabetes and is preaching the importance of stopping the obesity epidemic in the United States. Like many people going on diets, the easier part is taking the weight off. The big challenge is to keep it off for life.

We are living in a time of an overweight/obesity epidemic. Overweight/obesity is not only a problem for adults: Recent data in children as young as 2 years old throughout adolescence have indicated a 3-fold increase in the prevalence of overweight. Why the epidemic? Is it too much food or too little activity? The consumption of large portions of foods that are high in calories (fats, carbohydrates, or both) and reduced physical activity—mostly in the workplace for adults and in and after school for children/adolescents—work together to contribute to America's problem.

When body mass index (BMI) is used as a reflection of fatness, only 35% of adult Americans have a healthy BMI, 25, whereas approximately 30% are obese, as defined by a BMI of more than 30. For individuals with a BMI between 25.0 and 30.0 (overweight), excess body fat is not always present, particularly in physically trained people.

The podcast is expected to climb the iTunes charts as this is a professionaly produced podcast filled with useful content and the fact that the forum allows people to anonymously share their stories will allow people to be more open and candid.

A Healing Brew for Holiday Stress

A Healing Brew for Holiday Stress

This release offers a simple way to manage holiday stress by being still, receiving love, embracing life and welcoming the moment. The first letter of each step forms the acronym b. r.e. w.

Randolph, Massachusetts (PRWEB) December 19, 2005

"In the holiday season's busyness and stress, we often miss tremendous inner spiritual blessings," says Kirk Byron Jones, Ph. D. ,author of Morning B. R.E. W.: A Divine Power Drink for Your Soul (Augsburg Books, 2005). Jones recommends these four steps that form the acronym b. r.e. w, for experiencing a more soulfully satisfying holiday season:

1. Be Still. Stillness allows persons to empty themselves of thoughts and feelings that diminish life, and make room for life-affirming beliefs and emotions.

2. Receive Love. In this time of giving, don't forget to relish the kindness and gratitude offered by others. The more persons receive,

The more they have to give.

3. Embrace Life. Numbness and cynicism are not healthy choices in a world that seems overwhelming at times. Hopeful acceptance is

A better choice. This attitude empowers people to present their best to life's challenges and celebrations.

4. Welcome the Moment. Aspire and set goals, but always in a spirit of contentment. Now is all anyone has for sure. And now's blessings are more than enough when persons take time to notice them more.

Jones refers to the following parable as a reminder to persons that inner peace and well-being are cultivated from within: "There is a story told of the musk deer of North India. In the springtime, the roe is haunted by the odor of musk. He runs wildly over hill and ravine with his nostrils dilating and his little body throbbing with desire, certain that around the next group of trees or bushes he will find musk, the object of his quest. Then at last he falls, exhausted, with his little head resting on his tiny hoofs, only to discover that the odor of musk was in his own hide."

Hot Peppers May Become The Fountain Of Youth: SiCap Debuts Capsiderm Liquid Soap

Hot Peppers May Become The Fountain Of Youth: SiCap Debuts Capsiderm Liquid Soap

A small homeopathic pharmaceutical company in upstate New York has created the world's first facial skin treatment using extracts from hot peppers. According to reports, this product can naturally reduce the effects of aging by increasing natural blood flow to the surface of the skin.

Albany, NY (PRWEB) February 13, 2007

A small homeopathic pharmaceutical company in upstate New York has created the world's first facial skin treatment using extracts from hot peppers. The product known as "Capsiderm", is a liquid soap made exclusively by SiCap Industries.

SiCap Industries gained notoriety with their flagship brand, Sinus Buster" (http://www. sinusbuster. com) hot pepper nasal spray. Sinus Buster became an overnight sensation as the world's first hot pepper (Capsaicin) nasal spray when it was launched in 2003 by Wayne Perry, founder of SiCap Industries.

Today, SiCap Industries has branched out with new Capsaicin Pepper health products designed for skin care and topical pain relief. In 2005, the company launched "Capsiderm", the world's first hot pepper face and body wash. Though it may sound painful, SiCap's National Sales Director claims the Capsiderm formula is soothing and non-burning.

"There's only a tiny bit of natural pepper extract in Capsiderm because that's all you need to increase blood flow to the skin's surface. You definitely feel some tingling when you use it, but the feeling is exhilarating to say the least. There's no burning, and it leaves your skin feeling and looking younger," says Scott Latella.

According to SiCap's management, Capsiderm rejuvenates the skin, reduces wrinkles and depletes the bacteria that causes topical skin infections such as acne.

"Not only does Capsiderm contain capsaicin pepper extracts, but we also add green tea, rosemary, pine needle oil and other medicinal herbals. Aside from the pepper extract, the most important part of our formula is the base. We use a special African black soap that's made in a tribal village located in Togoland, Africa. You can't get it anywhere else. The Capsiderm base is made the same way it's been made for hundreds of years by boiling the natural skins of Plantain, Coconuts and Shea nuts over an open fire. The result is a blackish brown soapy syrup with golden swirly tints. It's filled with natural glycerin and other important nutrients you can't get in any other soap. This stuff is amazing," says Wayne Perry, president of SiCap Industries.

SiCap joined the African Fair Trade initiative after hooking up with a U. S. distributor in 2005. According to Wayne Perry, he immediately saw a use for this natural black soap.

"I started to experiment with the Togoland black soap after receiving a sample in 2004. I was trying all types of natural cleansing bases for our new hot pepper face wash, but this stuff was incredible from the start. When I mixed in the pepper extract, the green tea and the rosemary, I knew I had a winner. The smell, the feel and of course the effectiveness was phenomenal. The first time I used it, my face looked ten years younger, and everybody who tries it has the same reaction," adds Perry.

Perry's hot pepper face wash was an instant hit with his staff, and an enormous success with consumers. Although the product is only available in a handful of stores and via the web, SiCap sells 3,000 units a month at an average retail price of $29.99.

"We can barely keep up with Capsiderm sales because it's a handmade product, and we have to let the formula sit for a certain amount of time before we bottle it. We can put out ten million Sinus Buster nasal sprays every year, but with Capsiderm we're limited by the complexity of the formula. That's why it works so well. You can't make it any other way, and we normally have a waiting list," adds Scott Latella.

Why would so many consumers pay such a high price for a simple herbal face wash? According to radio personality JR Gach (http://www. jrshowonline. com), Capsiderm is a "Miracle Product" that shows instant results.

"I've been using Capsiderm everyday for about a year. If you look at photos of me from 10 years ago, I look younger today and it's because of the Capsiderm. I use it on my face and all over my body in the shower everyday. The stuff is liquid gold. It's like the fountain of youth and the results are dramatic," says Gach.

Chronic Back Pain? Dr Rose Soanes Of Niles MI Thinks She Has A Solution

Chronic Back Pain? Dr Rose Soanes Of Niles MI Thinks She Has A Solution

Dr. Rose Soanes uses chiropractic to treat patients who have chronic back pain. Studies show that chiropractic care is more effective in treating chronic back pain than medical care is, yet they cost the same.

Niles, MI (PRWEB) June 9, 2006

Chronic back pain is a multi-billion dollar expense in the United States. It is estimated that about 50 million Americans are living with chronic pain and two-thirds of our population will suffer from some type of acute or chronic back pain at some point of our lives.

You don't have to suffer with chronic back pain anymore says Dr. Rose Soanes of Berrien Family Chiropractic. The use of chiropractic has been proven to rid cases of chronic back pain. Traditionally, Americans tend to gravitate towards medical care to treat their chronic back pain. According to a study in the fall of 2005 in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, medical and chiropractic care costs are about equal, but chiropractic care produces better results in treating chronic back pain.

According to Dr. Soanes, "Chronic back pain is an epidemic. It affects the quality of every day life for millions of people. It is particularly frustrating to see so many suffer when a viable solution exists. Chiropractic has been shown to be 90% cheaper than surgery for back pain."

Many times chronic back pain sufferers rely on over the counter or prescription pills to provide temporary relief each day. "This is not a healthy way of dealing with chronic back pain, in fact reliance on these kinds of drugs have negative side effects on your liver, kidneys, and stomach. Use of pain killers also numb a person from warning signals given by their body. I've seen patients with acute back pain who prolong their recovery time. Instead of resting, they will get temporary pain relief from a pain killer and further strain their back muscles and ligaments, says Dr. Soanes.

Dr. Soanes offers her first visit free of charge to anyone looking into chiropractic and how it can help treat their chronic back pain. Dr. Rose Soanes, D. C. is located at 1036 Bell Road, Niles, MI 49120. She can be reached by telephone at 269-683-1700.

Note to Editors: Dr. Rose Soanes, D. C. is available as an expert source on treating chronic back pain. Please call her at 269-683-1700.

New Easter Seals/MassMutual Study: Autism Strains Family Finances, Threatens Long-Term Care and Security

New Easter Seals/MassMutual Study: Autism Strains Family Finances, Threatens Long-Term Care and Security

One parent responds, "We're drowning financially"

Springfield, Mass. (Vocus) December 16, 2008

Caring for children with autism (http://www. massmutual. com/autism) is wreaking havoc on family finances across America, jeopardizing current and long-term care and security, according to a new study, Living with Autism (http://www. massmutual. com/autism), released today by Easter Seals and Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual).

"No one expected the problems and challenges to be so severe for families living with autism - the numbers are stark and point to the pervasiveness of this public health crisis," said John Chandler, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of MassMutual's U. S. Insurance Group. "The study reveals that many families are exposed to serious financial risk due to a lack of awareness and planning."

For example, of parents having children with autism:
74 percent fear their children will not have enough financial support after the parents die (compared to only 18 percent of parents with typically developing children) 52 percent say caring for their child drains the family's current financial resources (compared to 13 percent) 47 percent say the cost of care financially impacts how they raise typically developing siblings

"The good news is that, with increased awareness and the right help, this is one piece of the autism puzzle that parents can begin to solve," added Chandler.

"There's a lot at stake," said Joanne Gruszkos, director of the SpecialCareSM Program at MassMutual. "By not addressing financial and life care planning needs, or addressing them with inexperienced professionals, a lot of these families could, at the very least, risk losing the government services that are a real lifeline for children with autism."

The study found that despite overwhelming need, most parents don't seek out the help of skilled financial professionals for a variety of reasons, including lack of time, not knowing where to start, and simply being overwhelmed. "Even when they do reach out, the help can be misguided because it comes from financial professionals who are not trained specifically to deal with complex cases involving special needs," added Gruszkos. "Run-of-the-mill planning can backfire."

The study found that:
only half of families surveyed receive professional financial advice only 38 percent have designated a guardian only 17 percent have created a Special Needs Trust, which can be an important funding vehicle only 24 percent have identified living arrangements, if the parent is no longer living MassMutual's SpecialCare program is an innovative outreach initiative developed exclusively by MassMutual to provide access to information, specialists, and financial products and services that can help improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and other special needs and their families and caregivers.

"Life care planning is a growing area of financial services need, as awareness and occurrence of disabilities and special needs increases across the country," explained Gruszkos. "MassMutual has more than 200 Special Care Planners across the U. S. who have received advanced training in estate and tax planning concepts, special needs trusts, government programs, and the emotional dynamics of working with special needs families and caregivers," she added.

"There is an urgent need for increased funding and services - especially for adults with autism. Easter Seals and MassMutual want to help change all of this and make a difference for families living with autism today," concluded Patricia Wright, Ph. D., MPH, Easter Seals' national director, autism services.

Results of the study are available at www. massmutual. com/autism (http://www. massmutual. com/autism). A variety of resources from MassMutual for people with special needs, their families and caregivers are available at www. massmutual. com/specialcare/resources (http://www. massmutual. com/specialcare/resources).

Survey Methodology
The Living with Autism Study - a survey of more than 2,500 parents about their children's daily lives, relationships, independence, education, housing, employment, finances and healthcare - highlights the pervasive emotional, practical and financial impacts of autism on families, their futures and their finances.

The study was conducted online within the United States by HarrisInteractive on behalf of Easter Seals between June 16 and July 17, 2008 among 1,652 parents of children age 30 and under who have autism and 917 parents of typically developing children age 30 and under. No estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated; a full methodology is available.

EnovateIT Provides Rubbermaid Mobile EMAR Solution for Southern Ocean County Hospital

EnovateIT Provides Rubbermaid Mobile EMAR Solution for Southern Ocean County Hospital

Southern Ocean County Hospital adopts fully integrated, ready-to-roll medication workstation solution from EnovateIT to facilitate eMAR implementation. The med carts and medication transfer system enhances clinical workflow and patient interaction, resulting in improved patient care and satisfaction on the med/surg floors.

Troy, MI (PRWEB) March 27, 2007

Southern Ocean County Hospital (SOCH), a community healthcare leader, reinforced its ongoing commitment to superior performance by adopting electronic medication administration record (eMAR). To facilitate this critical technology adoption, the hospital worked closely with EnovateIT, the nation's leading healthcare IT integrator, to create a mobile EMAR solution for the point of care.

The complete solution -- comprised of a Rubbermaid Medical Solutions medication cart, laptop, and infection control keyboard / mouse -- helps clinicians on the medical / surgical floors more easily transition from the paper-based medication administration to the new Meditech electronic medication administration program. The med cart solution enhances clinical workflow and patient interaction, resulting in improved patient care and satisfaction.

An integral part of the solution is the Rubbermaid Medical Solutions medication transfer system. This expansion module system provides efficient, accurate medication transfer between the hospital's pharmacy and the medication carts on the nursing floors. Together, the transfer system and medication carts save clinicians valuable time and energy.

Michelle Green, Clinical Informatics Specialist, stated, "By utilizing the Rubbermaid carts our nurses are able to document clinical information at the patient's bedside. They have access to all of the patient's information and medication right there." According to Green, "With the comprehensive wireless internet, clinicians can now move throughout the unit with their carts and have secure wireless access wherever they go."

"We worked closely with the clinical informatics specialists at SOCH to come up with a complete solution tailored to their specific requirements," declared Doug Gallacher, EnovateIT regional sales manager. "With EnovateIT's integration service, all of these components were assembled on-site, and the finished devices were ready to roll out to the inpatient units." The integration service allowed the hospital IT staff to focus on a successful EMAR implementation.

EnovateIT will provide hands-on demonstrations of the Rubbermaid Medical Solutions medication cart at ANIA in Las Vegas, April 27-28 and at AACN, May 22-24, in Atlanta.

Not Just Another Bike Shop - Montana Cycling - Billings’ Newest Retail, Service and Community Center to Open May 22

Not Just Another Bike Shop - Montana Cycling - Billings’ Newest Retail, Service and Community Center to Open May 22

Much more than a retail space Montana Cycling's new built-green facility hopes to be a moving force for cycling in the Billings community

Billings, MT (PRWEB) May 4, 2010

Strategically situated along two of the newest bike paths in the Billings area, Montana Cycling (http://www. montanacycling. com/ (http://www. montanacycling. com/)) aims to be much more than a retail bike and repair shop. The 12,000 ft. environmentally-designed, built-green facility hopes to also be a moving force for cycling in the community. The Grand Opening has been set for May 22, 2010 with a VIP “Pre-Opening” for media and special guests scheduled for May 12th.

“Ultimately, this bicycle shop will be much more than a retail space. We will strive to be the center for a healthy community, brought together because of the love of all things bike-related,” explains Mark Soueidi, Managing Partner.

A 1,000 sq ft designated “Community Center” will be incorporated into the floor plan, available to local non-profits and cycling clubs including Montana Cycling’s own mc2 bike club which will support and promote bicycle commuting, organized rides, and formal competitions.

Montana Cycling’s retail shop will feature popular brands such as Cannondale, Giant, Cervelo, Orbea, Pinarello, Electra, and Haro as well as Yakima, Burley trailers, and B. O.B. strollers. A full line of cycling apparel will also be sold. In addition, the facility will house a high-tech service center, rental shop, fitness studio and café all under one roof.

Soueidi points out that the May 2010 issue of Bicycling Magazine lists Billings as #37 in the Top 50 Bike-Friendly Cities in America. The magazine cited that, among a new trail system, “all new construction projects include bike facilities, and all public buses have been equipped with bike racks.”

“It’s a great honor for our community to be recognized,” says Soueidi. “We're on our way to becoming an even more bicycle-happy town! Billings is such a great place to ride and we hope to be a catalyst in getting more and more people pedaling.”

Montana Cycling just recently teamed up with another Billings company, Austin-Lehman Adventures (http://www. austinlehman. com/ (http://www. austinlehman. com/)) and local Montana Chapter of Bicycles for Humanity (http://www. b4hmontana. org (http://www. b4hmontana. org)) to collect and ship over 400 used bikes to a rural community in Namibia. The grassroots effort will empower the disadvantaged members of the village through improved mobility and access to food and water, employment, healthcare, education and social opportunities.

Montana Cycling and Austin-Lehman Adventures also just announced that they will provide and support a fleet of eight top-end Cannondale bicycles to the new Volunteer Billings Bike Path Patrol organized by the local police department. ALA provided the bikes and Montana Cycling will handle the tune-up, repair and general maintenance.

Ongoing, Montana Cycling will offer the community free bike safety inspections, host weekly rides open to the public, and conduct unique bicycling-related events such as "Ladies Night Out," where women can learn basic bike mechanics and other aspects of cycling in a healthy community environment.

Avid cyclist and accomplished musician, Mark Soueidi has worked in bike shops since his college days in Chicago and Missoula. "Growing up in Billings, I still have memories of wandering over to the Schwinn Bicycle Shop on 17th Street when I was just 4 years old. I would knock on the back door, they'd invite me in, sit me on a stool, and let me watch 'em wrench on bikes. Somehow I knew that I'd one day have a shop of my own."

The public is welcome to help celebrate the Grand Opening of Montana Cycling at the shop location at the corner of Shiloh Rd. and King Avenue in Billings on Saturday, May 22nd from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Refreshments, events and activities are planned for kids, adults and families as well as a raffle to win new “His and Hers” cruiser bikes.

About Montana Cycling
Montana’s newest state-of-the-art cycling center offers top-end sales, service, rentals and repairs to the metro and surrounding Billings, Montana community. Built “green” to LEED standards with the community cyclist in mind, the center also features a fitness studio, community center and health food café all under one roof. American Horses Find Allies in US Senate

American Horses Find Allies in US Senate

Slaughter-Bound American Horses Find Allies in US Senate. The brutal and needless slaughter of America's faithful and noble horses and ponies may soon finally be a shameless thing of the past due to today's introduction into the U. S. Senate of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S.2352). The American Horse Defense Fund (AHDF), the nation's leading horse protection, education and advocacy nonprofit applauds the bill's lead sponsor, Senator John Ensign (R-NV), who was a practicing veterinarian prior to election to Congress. Additional cosponsors the AHDF is thankful to include: Mary Landrieu (D-LA),Daniel Inoyue (D-H), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Joseph Lieberman (D-CT).

(PRWEB) April 29, 2004

Washington, D. C.-April 27, 2004 - The brutal and needless slaughter of America's faithful and noble horses and ponies may soon finally be a shameless thing of the past due to today's introduction into the U. S. Senate of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, S.2352. The American Horse Defense Fund (AHDF), the nation's leading horse protection, education and advocacy nonprofit, applauds the bill's lead sponsor, Senator John Ensign (R-NV), who was a practicing veterinarian prior to election to Congress. Additional cosponsors the AHDF is thankful to include: Mary Landrieu (D-LA), a lifelong horseback rider, Daniel Inoyue (D-H), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Joseph Lieberman (D-CT).

Horse and animal lovers and owners nationwide have been supporting and watching the House version of this bill (HR 857), introduced in 2003. Both versions would prevent American horses from being slaughtered for human consumption within the US and also in neighboring Canada and Mexico. Currently, the House bill has a very diverse, large, bipartisan collection of 202 cosponsors and is gaining momentum. Even though no action has been taken on the bill by the House Agriculture Committee. Sponsors of H. R. 857, John Sweeney (R-NY) and John Spratt (D-SC) both hold out hope that the bill will move forward onto the floor for a full vote soon. However, House Agriculture Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), has made known that while he is sympathetic to the some of the issues the bill raises, he does not feel the bill should move forward. "We hope he will come to see things differently, it is high time for the bill to become law" Trina Bellak, Esq. of the American Horse Defense Fund said.

Advocates of the bills are very pleased to have the Senate version sponsored by such prominent Senators and having them join the fight to protect horses. "This is a giant stride forward in the long battle to end the betrayal and butchering of our horses and ponies. These senators and many Housemembers have acted upon the will of the people. " Bellak commented. Senator Ensign agrees and said “A series of recent polls show that Americans overwhelmingly support a ban on the slaughter of horses for human consumption. This should come as no surprise because horses in the United States are not raised for food. Despite state laws barring this barbaric practice, the slaughter of horses for human consumption continues because of an absence of a strong federal law to prohibit it. The time for such a law is now."

There are many alternatives to slaughtering horses and ponies. In fact, the American Horse Defense Fund hopes shortly to make available to all horse owners, the first booklet ever, listing a vast array of alternatives and where and what they are. The plentiful resources for alternatives will ease the transition after the bill becomes law. The minority of people who are not supportive of the bill also claim to fear that banning horse slaughter will lead to a surplus of horses that would cause an increase of abuse and neglect of horses. "There is no evidence of this, in fact, we know that in states where horse slaughter is specifically banned, abuse and neglect cases have actually decreased. When the state of California banned horse slaughter, the incidence of horse theft also decreased”.

The Illinois legislature is currently considering prohibiting horse slaughter as another plant Cavel International is making plans to slaughter horses in DeKalb. In the US, all horses are slaughtered at one of the two equine slaughter plants (both in Texas), which are owned by two French and Belgian families. Over 50,000 American horses annually are inhumanely killed to be shipped to France, Belgium, other European countries and Japan for wealthy consumers to eat the pricey meat. Additionally, Bellak pointed out, "Europeans should know that horsemeat is tainted by drugs and is not healthy" (a European misconception).

Horsemeat is not sold within the United States. The AHDF urges all members of the House and Senate to support this bill. Caring people should urge their elected officials to sponsor the bills. The AHDF is the only nationwide organization devoted to issues solely relating to wild and domestic horses, and is joined in support of the bill by The Humane Society of the United States, Society for Animal Protection Legislation, the Doris Day Animal League, the ASPCA, many local rescues, horse organizations and millions of Americans. The Thoroughbred racing industry is actively supporting the bill as well as many celebrities.

More information about the bill can be found at www. AHDF. org.

Dartware's InterMapper 4.6 Enhances QoS Monitoring

Dartware's InterMapper 4.6 Enhances QoS Monitoring

InterMapper 4.6, network monitoring software from Dartware, enhances its proactive network management capabilities and ability to report on critical network devices and services with a new Cisco IP SLA probe.

Hanover, NH (PRWEB) August 1, 2007

InterMapper 4.6, network monitoring software from Dartware, enhances its proactive network management capabilities and ability to report on critical network devices and services with a new Cisco IP SLA probe. "Our customers are particularly excited about the new Cisco IP SLA probe that enhances quality of service monitoring," says Rich Brown, CEO of Dartware. The probe was developed by a long-time InterMapper user, Dennis O'Reilly, Senior Network Analyst at the University of British Columbia.

"InterMapper is the only network monitoring tool we use. We slice and dice the network in many ways using over 100 maps that monitor thousands of devices and go down to all Ethernet switches," explains O'Reilly. A number of those devices comprise a videoconferencing system that is heavily relied upon by the University's Medical School. O'Reilly created a custom probe that uses SNMP to collect information from the RTTMON MIB in the agent. The probe collects data on jitter, latency, and packet loss. Besides being incredibly useful for monitoring and measuring QoS for VoIP and videoconferencing applications, the probe also enhances:
Service level agreement monitoring, measurement, and verification  IP network health assessment  Network fault management and troubleshooting

The new IP SLA probe is one of many externally created custom network monitoring probes that Dartware has tested, packaged and included for general customer use.

Other new features in InterMapper 4.6 include:

InterMapper Authentication Server (IMAuth) - The new IMAuth Server dramatically simplifies password management for large organizations that give InterMapper access to many technicians. It allows network managers to use Kerberos, LDAP, RADIUS, ActiveDirectory, or IAS directories to authenticate InterMapper users.

Updated probes for Apple MacOS X servers - These probes will test Xserve RAID, rackmount Xserves and the component services on MacOS X server, including Web, FTP, AFP, NAT, Print, and QTSS servers.

Auto-layout enhancements - New layout tools create attractive maps that minimize line crossings and icon overlap after autodiscovering devices on the network.

VLAN information -- InterMapper displays the VLAN IDs for individual interfaces of switches that support the Cisco or 802.1Q Bridge MIB.

New probes - In addition to the IP SLA probe, InterMapper 4.6 includes an updated Barracuda spam filter probe, as well as probes to monitor user-selected SNMP variables and to test Motorola PTP400 and PTP600 wireless equipment.

InterMapper network monitoring software supports and runs on Macintosh, Windows, Linux, Solaris, and FreeBSD.

About Dartware - www. dartware. com - Dartware, LLC develops the InterMapper® family of network monitoring software. InterMapper earns quick return on investment by proactively alerting administrators to potential slow-downs, crashes, and other business interruptions. Its real-time, color-coded maps and other displays provide users with an instant view of their network and device status. Dartware's software is installed in financial services, healthcare, retail, education, government, non-profit, WISP and ISP organizations around the world.

InsureMe Highlights Ways to Save on Car Rentals during the Holidays

InsureMe Highlights Ways to Save on Car Rentals during the Holidays

Insurance shopping service gives tips to save time and money.

DENVER (PRWEB) December 22, 2005

The rental car industry, which raked in over $17 billion in 2004, is likely to see a spike in auto rentals over the holidays as travelers scurry to reach their destinations. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics estimates that more than 30 million Americans will travel over the holiday season.

To help consumers save time and money on auto rentals, InsureMe, a consumer-agent link to finding insurance online, is providing some tips for saving time and money at the rental counter.

When it comes to getting the most affordable rate on a rental car, good prices come to those who shop. Many travel sites now offer online rental shopping, making it easy for consumers to compare rates.

In addition, consumer travel sites like FreeTravelTips. com emphasize the importance of asking about discounts for members of auto clubs, as well as government, military and corporate employees. Frequent flyers may also be eligible for discounts when renting a car.

Drivers can also save money by avoiding unnecessary insurance coverage on a rental car. While rental car companies sell liability, personal injury protection and uninsured/underinsured coverages, many consumers don’t bother to consult their personal policies before purchasing rental coverage—resulting in duplicate coverage and wasted money.

To avoid overlapping insurance coverage on rental cars, consumers should consult their insurance professional regarding coverage in rental cars, namely if their personal policy will cover damage caused by the insured, damage caused by uninsured/underinsured drivers and provide protection from any medical claims arising from passengers or other motorists in the event of an accident. If these coverages are not transferable from personal policies, supplemental coverage should be purchased through the rental car agency.

Consumers are also advised to investigate rental car coverage under major credit cards. While rental coverage is often a benefit to the cardholder, most credit card companies only offer secondary coverage, which means that they will look to the cardholder’s personal insurance to cover claims that arise during the rental period. Calling the credit card company is the best way to obtain a summary of rental coverages under the card.

To speed the rental process during the holiday season, booking the car ahead of time is essential. And, to ensure quick processing at the registration desk, consumers should be prepared to give their confirmation number, driver’s license, insurance card and any coupons they wish to put toward the rental fee.

"It is no longer ideals and issues that win political races in America, it is name recognition and big money."

"It is no longer ideals and issues that win political races in America, it is name recognition and big money."

Coors, Kerry (Heinz) and Fowler: What does Pete Coors, John Kerry and Charles Fowler Have in Common? They all three have the courage to enter into the rough and tumble political arena and run for office. But only one of them can actually relate to the issues that face the average American. Only one of them is willing to fight for the ideals of democracy. Are the political pundits correct when they say: "It is no longer ideals and issues that win political races in America, it is name recognition and big money."

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (PRWEB) April 12, 2004

I was just toying with the idea of launching a Senate Campaign until I received a letter from a fellow Republican. I understood the premise of this letter and took no offense. But there was one sentence that bothered me.

"It is no longer ideals and issues that win political races in America, it is name recognition and money."

Now what is troubling about this most, is that it is true. The fact that a candidate can be elected without taking a clear stand on all of the issues, without ever being challenged in honest debate and without articulating a clear vision for America is distressing. When I began to really think about that statement is when I determined to follow through with this campaign of fresh ideas and call for a reformation in American political campaigns.

This election is one of the most crucial elections in our nation's history. And it is already proving to be one of the most impassioned. Unfortunately across America in our Congressional races, we are hearing the same old "talking points" with nothing new added to the political debate. We are hearing the sound of echoes across the country, the echoes of marketing consultants, policy advisors and political pollsters.

Can you hear the echoes:

-Lower Taxes

-Improved Education

-Second Amendment Rights

-Family Values

All of the candidates say it, but what does it mean. We are still hearing the echo of the debate from years gone by. Unfortunately, what we are not hearing, are the voices of clarity, of vision and the exchange of new concepts and fresh ideas.

The political pros in this business are very generalized with nothing specific, nothing of substance to offer the American voter. Many of their stances are so unclear and have nothing definitive to say, so they can easily waffle around these issues at election time. I guess that is why they are called "politicians."

With nothing to get excited about the voters are bored to complacency and just stay home on election day. So many Americans lack the motivation to exercise our most fundamental freedom, the right to vote, they don't even bother to register.

Personally, I do not think it is actually the voters fault. I lay the blame squarely at the feet of the many lawyers, half the Senate which are millionaires and all of the professional politicians who seem to be the choices we have, usually the lesser of two evils.

Well, since I have proposed a sort of reformation in American politics, in hopes of a fresh wind to blow through our political campaigns, let me start things off with a few specific proposals of my own:

More Funding for High Education

First of all, we can and should find more funding for our Colleges and Universities in America. There is more than enough government waste that can be slashed in order to accomplish this goal. If we don't accomplish anything else, we must find the funds to help lower tuition rates and offer practical scholarships, grants and loans for our students.

Like most Americans, I worked in order to attend college and graduate school. How much more could I have received out of that effort if I had been given just a small amount of assistance at times. This must be a real priority for Colorado in the future and not just a campaign slogan. It is the future of our children that is at stake here.

More Tax Credits for Tuition

I would also propose that any and all tuition payments from College entry, all the way to Doctoral Programs would be completely tax deductible. It is time the government took the tax burden off of students and promoted higher education again.

More Funding for Rural Education

In addition I would propose a Rural Education Bill that would guarantee kids in rural areas the same quality of education available in other school districts and insure the funding is there to protect the salaries of our public school teachers. If vouchers are the wave of the future, then we must also guarantee our public schools have a level playing field and that all educators have equal opportunity, whether in public schools or private.

Regular Town Hall Meetings From Cortez to Sterling and All Points in Between

It was Abraham Lincoln who said it best:

"No man is good enough to govern another man without that other man's consent."

Nothing scares me more than someone who knows, with certainty, what is right for me. My role in the United States Senate, if elected, will be to "represent the people" of Colorado. Because I really do care, I will listen. If I told the media my best qualification for the Senate, is that I will listen to the people of Colorado. They would probably say: "Huh? What?"

But when I personally look at a candidate I want to vote for someone that I feel comfortable with, someone who will have an open door once they are elected and would sit down and listen to what their constituency has to say. I would vote for a good listener. Someone who is open, honest and humble enough to listen to what someone else has to say. Someone who is willing to listen to both sides of an issue with an open mind.

Whoever wins this Senate race in Colorado will probably be our voice in Washington for the next six to thirty years. Listen, there will be alot of changes in the next six to thirty years and I want someone in the Senate that will listen.

Cut Government Waste

An estimated $15 billion a years is spent on what we call "pork." This money is wasted blatantly and without remorse on everything from the eradication of brown tree snakes to golf videos in Ireland. One classic example is the $393 million "road to nowhere" in the Natchez Trace State Parkway in Tennessee. An Interior Department official laments that it is a nice road and such ashame that nobody ever uses it. There are many well documented books on this nauseating subject. The point being that $15 billion used correctly could bring about something positive and productive for America.

Efforts to Support "Made in the U. S.A."

It is also time for us to promote goods and products that are made in America. I would support tax breaks and other incentives for retailers who sell products that are "Made in the U. S.A." I would support every effort to bring home jobs and create new and better jobs for all Americans.

Real Tort Reform

It is also time to limit malpractice claims and put a stop to all of this needless civil litigation. We are losing too many good medical professionals because of these out of control law suits. But I have to be honest with you, Tort Reform will only come when we stop electing all of these lawyers to public office. This is another reason we need citizen legislators. How do you think we got into this mess to begin with?

Military Pay Raises

Next on my agenda would be to fight for military pay raises and insist that Congress break this deadlock and give our active duty military the kind of pay increases that they deserve.

Funding for Veterans Benefits

Listen, we ask our troops to risk their lives in battle to protect our freedoms, so it is our God given responsibility to make sure that our veterans have excellence in health care, are given more than adequate benefits and retirement in order to enjoy a quality of life that their service to our country has merited. We can no longer allow Congress to play political games with this, for this issue must also become a real priority.

Protect Working Families From the Department of Labor's Proposed Overtime Regulations

Because many of todays Republicans are employees too. We need to safeguard the rights of workers. The Department of Labor's regulatory impact analysis is flawed in so many ways, its numbers have no credibility. The Economic Policy Institute’s study demonstrates that the paychecks and work hours of millions of workers are at stake in this rulemaking. If the Department wanted to preserve the current law's overtime protections, it would have to withdraw this rule and rewrite it. The Department should eliminate loopholes and clarify the rules in ways that preserve or expand overtime protection, rather than weaken it. There is no reason for workers to sacrifice their right to one of this country's bedrock entitlements.

The Harkin amendment, which permits changes in the rule to guarantee additional overtime protection for low-income workers, while prohibiting changes that would eliminate protection provided by current law, is clearly the best answer for America’s working men and women both Republican and Democrat.

Protect Religious Liberties

Did you ever think the 10 Commandments would come under such attack in our nation?

Did you ever think that marriage would be anything else but one man and one woman?

Did you ever think that it would be unconstitutional to have your child say the pledge of allegiance in school?

Did you ever think that the Supreme Court would rule that virtual child pornography would be constitutional?

Did you ever think that the IRS would impose an absolute ban on all speech that may be regarded as "political" by your pastor or head of any house of worship?

I am determined to fight for the fundamental principles of the free exercise of religion and the freedom of speech in America. The courts have no right to take out the Ten Commandments or suppress religious freedoms as they are doing.

Protect Civil Liberties

Last but not least, and certainly not the end of my list of priorities for America; are our civil liberties. It is now time to fix the USA PATRIOT ACT and defend our civil liberties and the Bill of Rights at home. I will join Senators Larry Craig, Mike Crapo, John Sununu and others in support of the SAFE ACT which will significantly modify the USA PATRIOT ACT to not only protect our country against terrorism, but also protect the Constitution of the United States by defending our civil liberties at the same time.

The First Amendment survived the Civil War and many other times of national crisis and the First Amendment will survive this War on Terror also.

It is my firm belief that the best leadership for the future of this country will be found in citizen legislators who are supported by grassroots campaigns and who will go to Washington and take issue by issue with great caution and care on behalf of their constituencies. And with that kind of direction we can guarantee the faith declaration of one of our great American Presidents:

"A government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth."

Abraham Lincoln

CoreValve Announces That More Than 1,800 High-Risk Patients Have Been Treated with its ReValving® System for Percutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement (PAVR) : Highly encouraging registry data also presented at TCT 2008

CoreValve Announces That More Than 1,800 High-Risk Patients Have Been Treated with its ReValving® System for Percutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement (PAVR) : Highly encouraging registry data also presented at TCT 2008

CoreValve (www. corevalve. com) announced today that the expanded clinical evaluation of its ReValving® System for percutaneous aortic valve replacement (PAVR) in high-risk patients with aortic stenosis continues to enroll patients at an accelerating pace. More than 1,800 patients have now been treated worldwide at nearly 100 centers in 20 countries.

IRVINE, Calif. (PRWEB) October 13, 2008

During the Monday Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement sessions at TCT 2008 meeting in Washington, D. C., CoreValve investigators and physician proctors presented clinical data on the subset of patients that are included in the company's post CE-Mark expanded clinical evaluation registry. Patients enrolled in the registry had a predicted 30-day mortality rate of about 23% as measured by the logistical EuroScore. By contrast, the survival rate at one-month post-procedure follow-up for these high-risk and often inoperable octogenarian registry patients was about 90%. Quality of life improvement, as measured by the New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional classification, was significantly improved as well. Follow-up on patients that are now one year post procedure demonstrate good longer term valve function and sustained survival and quality of life benefits. CoreValve believes that complications including neurological events are comparable to traditional aortic valve surgery although there is a modest, but clinically acceptable increase in pacemaker dependency in PAVR patients.

"The growing volume of very positive clinical data from an ever increasing number of physicians is most satisfying," said Eberhard Grube MD, Chief of Cardiology at the HELIOS Heart Center Siegburg, Germany. "In the hands of an experienced user, use of the CoreValve ReValving System is fast becoming a routine alternative for high risk patients suffering from severe aortic stenosis."

"We are highly encouraged by the clinical data from outside the United States that was presented at TCT," added Daniel T. Lemaitre, President and CEO of CoreValve. "Additionally, we continue to see strong sequential growth in procedure volume as 2008 unfolds; a testimony to the significant patient population whom we believe will benefit from our groundbreaking technology."

Federal Exercise Guidelines Could Endanger the Heart, Warns Heart Disease Author Al Sears, M. D.

Dr. Al Sears, author of The Doctor’s Heart Cure, http://www. dragondoor. com/b30.html warns that the new federal guidelines for exercise are an improvement over earlier recommendations yet still miss the healthiest mark. According to Dr. Al Sears, the key is to exercise harder, not longer. Rather than 30 to 90 minutes of exercise daily, as the Federal guidelines recommend Dr. Al Sears’ PACE™ (Progressively Accelerating Cardiopulmonary Exertion) program averages only 10 minutes a day.

(PRWEB) January 20, 2005

St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) January 20, 2005 – Dr. Al Sears, author of The Doctor’s Heart Cure, http://www. dragondoor. com/b30.html (http://www. dragondoor. com/b30.html) warns that the new federal guidelines for exercise are an improvement over earlier recommendations yet still miss the healthiest mark.

“Long-duration exercise is a waste of time and can actually cause other health problems,” explains Dr. Al Sears. “That type of exercise makes the heart and lungs more efficient, but reduces their reserve capacity to respond effectively to sudden demands. For the heart, reserve capacity is crucial. It can mean the difference between a long healthy life and sudden death from a heart attack.”

Scientific studies support Dr. Al SearsÂ’ recommendations. Harvard researchers examined exercise and cardiovascular health among middle-aged men in their 2000 study. It is shocking to learn that the risk of heart disease for people who exercise for long durations was twice as high as those who exercise for short durations

PACE™ begins with 20 minutes of exercise three times a week. After several weeks PACE ™ advocates two ten-minute intervals. After a month or two, workouts accelerate to one nine-minute interval, a three-minute rest period, and a second nine-minute interval. The intensity increases as the duration decreases.

The benefits of shorter bursts of exercise include increased cardiac pumping ability. Other benefits include boosting lung capacity for increased endurance and disease resistance, strengthening muscle and bone, reversing age-associated fat around the middle, and returning strength and speed to more youthful levels.

There is further detail about Dr. SearsÂ’ exercise recommendations and supportive scientific research in his new book, The DoctorÂ’s Heart Cure, Beyond the Modern Myths of Diet and Exercise: The Clinically-Proven Plan of Breakthrough Health Secrets That Helps You Build a Powerful, Disease-Free Heart available through www. dragondoor. com.

Al Sears, M. D. owns and operates The Center for Health and Wellness an integrative medicine and anti-aging clinic in south Florida where he has treated over 15,000 patients. Dr Sears is an adjunct professor at Barry University teaching anatomy, human physiology, and nutrition.

Nationally Certified Online Phlebotomy Course

Nationally Certified Online Phlebotomy Course

Everyone needs that edge that will set them apart from the rest. Employers would be more inclined to hire a licensed practical nurse or medical assistant who possessed a certification as a phlebotomy technician. Already in the health-care field? Have you done at least twenty five venipunctures? Have you always wanted to become certified as a phlebotomy technician? Then Phlebotomy Career Training, a Michigan licensed proprietary school can help with the new Nationally Certified Online Phlebotomy Course.

(PRWEB) October 7, 2010

Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, interns, physicians, medical technologists, medical assistants, ECG Technicians, Respiratory Therapists and more have had to perform blood draws at one time or another. However, they are not considered phlebotomy technicians. Earning a phlebotomy technician certification requires attending classes at local colleges or proprietary schools. The costs are very steep. The average phlebotomy technician program costs anywhere from one thousand to eleven thousand dollars.

Medical health-care professionals realize that they can do the job of a phlebotomy technician but lack only the certification. The thought of spending thousands of dollars on a course which they already have experience in seems like a waste of time and money. This is the dilemma that medical health-care professionals face daily when competing with phlebotomy technicians for phlebotomy related positions.

Employers of health-care workers will hire a phlebotomy technician before a hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse or medical assistant because the phlebotomy technician has a certificate. Although the Licensed Practical Nurse and medical assistant can both do the job of the phlebotomy technician, they lack the certification. In Michigan, there is now a nursing hiring freeze. There are too many graduate nurses who do not possess the experience to find work. They too have no specialization that will allow them to compete with phlebotomy technicians.

Everyone needs that edge that will set them apart from the rest. Employers would be more inclined to hire a licensed practical nurse or medical assistant who possessed a certification as a phlebotomy technician. The employer recognizes that the medical assistant and licensed practical nurse can multitask while being proficient in phlebotomy. Medical assistants are always drawing blood. Phlebotomy is part of their curriculum. However, medical assistants are not considered phlebotomy technicians. Employers are very specific as to the professional certification that is required for the job.

Now more than ever, employers such as hospitals, doctors offices, out-patient labs and nursing homes require medical health-care workers to perform blood draws. They are going so far as to hire phlebotomy technicians to train their employees. This wouldn't be the case if their employees were already certified as a phlebotomy technician.

Professor Nancy Kimmel, Registered Nurse, PhD and Certified Phlebotomy Instructor at Phlebotomy Career Training School, realized the importance of offering affordable online accelerated phlebotomy certification to those with previous experience in phlebotomy.

Professor Kimmel has been teaching for over twenty years. She has taught at Lawrence Technological University in the Mechanical Engineering Department, at Henry Ford Community College in the math, physics and engineer department and at Oakland University in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Professor Kimmel has spent years working at Oakwood Hospital as a Registered Nurse in CCU, Medical Surgical Floors and in the Intermediate Intensive Care Unit. She has also worked in home care. Professor Kimmel has been an ardent educator in the Metro Detroit area since 2002 and now instructs students at her own school, Phlebotomy Career Training http://www. PhlebotomyCareerTraining. com in Garden City, Michigan. Her accomplishments are many. She has been awarded a U. S. Patent and has authored several books on nursing. One of her books entitled, Pass The N. E.T., is on its sixth printing and can be found at the college bookstores of Wayne County Community College and at Henry Ford Community College. She states, "I believe in helping people. That is what I do as a nurse and as a teacher. The greatest gift to give someone is knowledge and that is what I try to do daily with my students." Professor Kimmel has spent hours writing online tutorials to help her students in class. Now she is able to offer a complete online course dedicated to those with previous experience in phlebotomy. She states; "I have come a long way to achieve my goals. Working as a professor at colleges and universities, I would see so many students give up due to the high tuition costs. I always wanted to help others achieve their dreams. Being able to offer an affordable online class is the best way to begin."

Phlebotomy Career Training is a licensed proprietary school in the state of Michigan. Phlebotomy Career Training has won approval of its curriculum from Michigan Works and the Michigan J. E.T. Program for Welfare and Human Services. Professor Kimmel is the administrator and instructor of all the courses at the school. Professor Kimmel offers the traditional classroom instruction in phlebotomy. The on site courses are six weeks in duration and include forty hours of lecture an fifty hours of lab.

The online Phlebotomy Technician Course is $150. It is a one week class. Students are given a log-in code and access to all tests, reading, and video tutorials by professor Kimmel. Once students complete the class they are required to take a final exam. Upon passing the final, Professor Kimmel will then send to them their Michigan Certificate for Phlebotomy Technician.

Professor Kimmel's school is also certified by the National Healthcareer Association. Therefore, once student's pass their final exam they can also sit for their National Phlebotomy Certification exam. The National Healthcareer Association is the benchmark for accreditation of phlebotomy certification. Students not present in the state of Michigan will still be able to take the online course and receive not only certification from the state of Michigan but nationwide.

Professor Kimmel states: "This is a most wonderful opportunity that I can offer to medical health-care professionals. Students all over the United States are eligible to take the online phlebotomy course and earn national certification. We also have national approval for our ECG course. I am so excited to hear from the new students who will enroll and will help them all that I can."
