"Katalyst" Kevin Carroll Joins Childhood Obesity Fight

Acclaimed author and speaker Kevin Carroll is a new "Champion" in the national effort to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity. He's working with the Alliance for Healthier Generation along with celebrity chef Rachael Ray and NBA All-Star Paul Pierce.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) September 15, 2010

Author and speaker Kevin Carroll will join the Alliance for a Healthier Generation as a “Champion” in the effort to eliminate childhood obesity.

Carroll, who speaks to more than 75,000 people each year, will help spread the message to young people about the importance of physical activity and healthy eating. The Alliance is also aligned with celebrity chef Rachael Ray, whose non-profit Yum-O! Foundation is an Alliance Champion, and eight-time NBA All-Star Paul Pierce, who serves as the Alliance’s National Athlete Spokesperson.

"Kevin’s passion for physical activity and play is a perfect fit with our efforts to help parents, schools, businesses, and kids transform our culture and create healthier communities,” said Ginny Ehrlich, executive director of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Founded in 2005 by the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation, the Alliance is a not-for-profit organization that works to positively affect the places that can make a difference in a child’s health. Its goal is to reduce the nationwide prevalence of childhood obesity by 2015.

Carroll is the founder of Kevin Carroll Katalyst/LLC and the author of three highly successful books, including "Rules of the Red Rubber Ball." As an agent for social change (a. k.a. the Katalyst), it is Carroll’s “job” to inspire businesses, organizations and individuals – from CEOs and employees of Fortune 500 companies to schoolchildren - to embrace their spirit of play and creativity to maximize their human potential.

"I'm really looking forward to my new role," Carroll said, "because I truly believe that inspiring young people to eat better and move more can be a catalyst for turning their dreams into a reality."

Books Delayed: Author's Life Threatened During Surgery; Failed Knee Implant Discovered

Books Delayed: Author's Life Threatened During Surgery; Failed Knee Implant Discovered

Well known author Dick C. suffers severe medical setback due to failure of a knee implant. All 2005 books have been delayed as a result of this incident.

Rolla, MO (PRWEB) March 18, 2005

R&R Publishing Inc., of Rolla, Mo., has announced that the 2005 books due to be published in the first quarter of this year by well known author, Dick C. have been indefinitely delayed.

R&R Publishing has exclusive publishing rights to all works of Dick C. All of the Dick C. works are available at many retail and e-commerce sites. Previously, R&R has published the completed trilogy, “Headlong Through Life,” “Return To Sanity,” and “The Shark Tank.”

The trilogy was so well received that the author, Dick C., was asked by popular demand to carry forth with the story. The books that were scheduled for release in 2005 were, “Roadmap for the ACOA,” “The Next Piece,” and “The Bureau of Prisons.” All of the books are complete in manuscript status but will require final edits and author’s alterations.

In January of this year, author Dick C. was hospitalized on an emergency basis due to a staph infection in his knee. During emergency surgery that was performed, it was discovered that the knee implant prosthesis in his leg had actually failed. The device had broken in half due to a manufacturing flaw, he said.

Wright Medical Technology Inc. of Arlington, Tenn., has confirmed that it manufactured the device, he said. The company is believed to be the third largest manufacturer of these type devices in the world, he said.

Dick C. continues to receive medical treatment for this very serious and life threatening disease. The attending physicians indicate that it is expected that Dick C. will eventually recover from this matter. Full recovery is not expected until late in 2005 or early 2006.

R&R Publishing stated that all of the books scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2005 have been placed on hold pending the eventual recovery of the author. The author has been required to receive daily treatments for his condition and simply could not devote the effort required to complete the project at this time. Both R&R Publishing and Dick C. regret this unfortunate delay.

Dick C. asked that R&R Publishing assure his readers that he will recover from this very serious and unfortunate incident. He will complete the project for publication as soon as his health permits.

On a personal note, the author, Dick C., asked the publisher to thank all of his readers for the well wishes, cards, and e-mails supporting his recovery.

Additional information can be found at the R&R Publishing Inc Web Site at www. dickc. com.

Decatur, GA (Vocus) June 10, 2009

Less than a few miles separate Everest Institute's new campus in Decatur from its previous location in DeKalb. While the two are only a short drive away from one another, the new facility is light years ahead in terms of amenities.

The new location at 2460 Wesley Chapel Road offers a more convenient, larger learning facility and substantial technology improvements. Classrooms are now located under one roof, whereas in its previous location, instructors taught in two separate buildings. Featuring smart classrooms, a full library, a student lounge, large laboratory spaces and a massage clinic, the new facility has a wealth of new capabilities to offer students in the area.

To celebrate its new campus opening, Everest Institute is welcoming the entire community to attend a Grand Opening from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. on June 18. The event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, a short address by Commissioner Larry Johnson, a radio promo and giveaways from HOT 107.9, musical performances by Decatur high school bands and a jazz quartet, as well as a castle bounce house for children.

The Grand Opening will provide opportunities for area residents to take a guided tour of the 50,o00-square-foot campus that opened this spring. Guests will have the chance to meet students, faculty and staff and obtain information about the School's programs. The Decatur campus has also introduced new programs in Electrician and Residential Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (RHVAC). Developed to capitalize on growing job opportunities in those fields, both programs will be enhanced by new laboratories featuring electrical simulation and soldering.

"With all the new amenities, we're able to deliver complete training in every area of the programs we offer," said Barbara Holliman, Everest Institute - Decatur President. "This grand opening is a way to give something back to the community. We care about it, and we want people to feel more involved in what's going on at our school."

Growth at Everest Institute has been significant. Since December, the student population has increased from about 450 students to more than 700. The larger campus can accommodate growth, which Holliman said could reach 1,500 to 1,800 students. The School now boasts a placement rate of more than 80 percent.

Programs begin at the new campus in July. For more information about the Grand Opening event or Everest Institute programs, call 404-327-8787.

Xtalks is pleased to present the Information Security web seminar. At this event you will hear from Greg Garcia, Vice President, Information Security Programs and Policy, Information Technology Association of America and Michael Assante, Senior Relationship Manager, National & Homeland Security Idaho National Lab (INL), as they discuss proven techniques to ensure that your organizations IT infrastructure is secure.

Companies are making the move in a desperate attempt to protect consumer as well as critical data from invasion and security breaches. The question by many consumers is whether the government should make it mandatory for companies to ensure that customer data is properly secure, while government officials are seeing the recent attacks as a threat to National security. These attacks have therefore left companies clamoring for answers to their now vulnerable IT infrastructures.

The web conference is sponsored by Apani Networks, Symantec and Vontu, who will host a workshop following the keynote presentation and before the Q&A session.

Registration for the event is currently open and free at: http://www. xtalks. com/is. ashx (http://www. xtalks. com/is. ashx)

Michael Gould Joins ESRI's Education Team

Michael Gould Joins ESRI's Education Team

Thought Leader Strives to Expand Reach of GIS in Education

Redlands, CA (PRWEB) January 9, 2009

Thinking spatially helps solve many of the problems faced in daily life, from the simple, like finding driving directions, to the complex, such as responding to natural disasters. With a focus on promoting spatial literacy among students in all disciplines, Dr. Michael Gould joins ESRI as director of education. He will also concentrate on supporting the implementation of geographic information system (GIS) technology across academic and administrative departments.

"When GIS is used for problem solving, a student analyzes data within its spatial context, which allows for more informed decision making," says Gould. "GIS is used on campuses for teaching and research in traditional spatial disciplines, such as geography and planning, but there are also significant benefits from using geospatial technology in wider areas such as business and public health departments. I look forward to supporting the use of geospatial technology in all areas of study as well as the use of GIS on campuses to improve operations such as facilities management and green initiatives."

Gould brings 20 years of experience in teaching and research to ESRI. He began his career after earning a Ph. D. in geography (GIS) from the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA), University at Buffalo. Most recently, he was an interdisciplinary professor of information systems and cocreator of an Erasmus Mundus-funded geospatial technologies master's program at Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain. Gould's research expertise includes creating Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI); researching standards-based interoperability with the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC); and developing geospatial Web services.

Gould has also worked as a GIS advisor to government agencies in the European Union (EU), businesses including ESRI and Microsoft, and nonprofit organizations. An active member of the Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE), Gould recently completed a two-year term as chair of its management board. He was also nominated by the Spanish government to serve as an expert on a series of research projects with the EU including Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe (INSPIRE).

ESRI president Jack Dangermond says, "Solving the problems of the 21st century requires a populace that's adept at creating and using geospatial technology. Michael Gould is a thought leader in the international GIS community who will help foster the open sharing of information and new forms of cooperation and collaboration with the education community (http://www. esri. com/getting_started/education/index. html)."

Wind River Financial Helps De Arteaga Realize Success as Government Contractor

De Arteaga, Inc., a Wisconsin-based masonry and specialty concrete contractor, is successfully growing its business with the federal government with the help and assistance of Wind River Financial (www. windriverfinancial. com).

Madison, WI (PRWEB) May 7, 2007

De Arteaga, Inc., a Wisconsin-based masonry and specialty concrete contractor, is successfully growing its business with the federal government with the help and assistance of Wind River Financial (www. windriverfinancial. com).

Wind River Financial originally secured its partnership with De Arteaga in 2006 because of its competitive terms, industry knowledge and personal customer service. The partnership has saved De Arteaga thousands of dollars in annual processing fees which are now being spent on other avenues to fuel continued growth. De Arteaga had originally decided to utilize the services of one of the nation’s largest merchant processors, but quickly realized that the company’s specific needs were not being addressed.

"We were immediately impressed by Wind River because they took the time to review and analyze our specific needs." said Faye Heinze, Office Operations Manager of De Arteaga, Inc. "Those discussions revealed an opportunity for us to save as much as 40% in merchant processing fees compared to what we had previously been quoted. In addition to delivering the anticipated financial advantages, their on-going training and support has greatly surpassed our expectations as we have integrated this application into our business model."

"Obviously, offering a competitive bid plays a big part in our ability to earn business as a government contractor," said Julio De Arteaga, founder and President of De Arteaga, Inc. "At the end of the day, though, our continued success is predicated on meeting and exceeding customer expectations." De Arteaga went on to say, "Wind River shares this commitment and continues to earn our business everyday by continuing to manage our merchant processing needs as they grow and change."

"We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with De Arteaga,” said Matt Uselman, President of Wind River Financial. "Their recent growth and accomplishments speak to their commitment to excellence.” Added Uselman, “Our approach, which combines highly competitive pricing with a clearly defined service program, is a great match for businesses like De Arteaga.”

Edinburgh to get Scotland's first Virtual Radiology solution

Edinburgh to get Scotland's first Virtual Radiology solution.

Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust, Edinburgh, Scotland, order Virtual Radiology solution from WISE Healthcare Systems for Western General Hospital and Royal Victoria Hospital.

(PRWEB) May 13, 2004

Edinburgh's 550 bed Western General Hospital is a major teaching site and a centre of expertise at the leading edge of new developments in healthcare, enjoying a national and international reputation for excellence in the delivery of specialist and general hospital services.

WISE Virtual Radiology services supplement, enable, integrate, enhance or when required, replace existing Voice, Information and Imaging solutions.

Andrew Underhill, Technical Director at WISE Healthcare Systems, comments "I remember this project well, WISE had a challenging task, due to the closure of the outgoing supplier support, not only did we have to migrate the legacy RIS data to the WISE solution without any technical documentation describing the data structures, but it had to be done in record time due to the system having virtually no disk space left and it crashing on a near daily basis.". "I am glad to report today that since the WISE solution was installed the department has not suffered any downtime due to our software in over 10 years".

WISE will be upgrading the current Radwise 4 character based RIS solution to Radwise 5, a web based RIS service from within the Virtual Radiology solution, also included are unique software functions supporting workflow and image management, WISE are also providing training and professional services.

Three new interactive anatomy education apps from Modality and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins expand health sciences learning opportunities for iPhone and iPod touch

Durham, NC (Vocus) November 27, 2009

Modality, Inc. (http://www. modality. com) and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), a division of Wolters Kluwer Health, today announced the availability of three new anatomy education apps on the App Store. Clemente’s Anatomy, Rohen’s Photographic Anatomy, and Moore’s Clinical Anatomy Apps for iPhone and iPod touch are based on the highly regarded print flash card products and offers students additional content customization and learning assessment features not available in any other medium.

“Human anatomy is the foundation of the health sciences, and these image sets have helped tens of thousands of students grow into successful practitioners,” said Diane M. Harnish, Vice President and Publisher, Medicine, LWW (http://www. lww. com). “Delivering this trusted content on iPhone and iPod touch engages users in a new way of learning, which will ultimately result in more highly trained professionals and better patient care.”

“Every Modality app is designed exclusively for iPhone and iPod touch to allow students to connect with the material in a meaningful way,” according to Nate O’Keefe, director of publishing for Modality. “These apps provide hundreds of annotated anatomical photographs and illustrations in brilliant detail. New Book: The Hidden Epidemic

New Book: The Hidden Epidemic

In his newest book, health writer Bill Sardi asks why the current rise in autism, asthma, childhood diabetes and digestive tract problems (Crohn's, celiac and irritable bowel) has been paralleled by antibiotic germ resistance. Could all of these diseases have a sole origin?

San Dimas, CA (PRWEB) May 6, 2007

In his newest book, health writer Bill Sardi asks why the current rise in autism, asthma, childhood diabetes and digestive tract problems (Crohn's, celiac and irritable bowel) has been paralleled by antibiotic germ resistance. Could all of these diseases have a sole origin?

All things are hidden, obscure and debatable if the cause of the phenomena be unknown, but everything is clear if this cause be known. - Louis Pasteur 1878 AD

Any careful onlooker of the world health scene can make the following observations:

At the same time that "magic bullet" antibiotics began to fail due to germ resistance, for no explainable reasons, in developed countries ….

•The incidence of autism among young children has risen sharply
•Childhood asthma is now common and inhalers are being used by children more frequently
•Childhood diabetes is growing at epidemic proportions
•Digestive tract problems (celiac, Crohn's, irritable bowel) are now common

But why?

Modern medicine has no explanations for the unprecedented increase in these childhood and adult maladies.

Treatment for these conditions seeks to alleviate symptoms but never addresses their unknown cause.

While this change in childhood health is alarming, modern medicine appears to be fractioned by specialists who may not be able to connect the dots to all these diseases, says Sardi.

Medical specialists define autism as a brain disorder, asthma as a respiratory tract disease and diabetes as destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. But are these specialists just reporting on the same fire that is burning in different rooms?

Are these diseases, whose parallel rise has been charted by various health organizations, connected in some way?

Many years ago it was believed that gastric ulcers were caused by stress and excessive stomach acid, says Sardi. Many ulcer patients quit their jobs, believing they were too stressful. Others walked away from strained marriages, mistakenly believing stress caused their recurrent ulcer problem.

Then two tireless medical investigators in Australia search for the cause of gastric ulcers and found it was caused by a germ. It took over a decade to convince modern medicine of this fact. Today it is known that a bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, causes gastric ulcers and they are successfully treated with antibiotics.

For a long time, since the discovery of DNA, medical researchers have believed that cancer is caused by gene mutations. But what causes genes to mutate?

Recently the human papilloma virus has been fingered as the trigger for cervical cancer. Cancer caused by a germ?

Medical investigators now believe heart disease may be caused by a bacterium, Chlamydia pneumoniae.

The Germ Theory of Disease is now being given more credence.

In The Hidden Epidemic, health writer and disease investigator Bill Sardi reveals a "stealth bacterium" that may cause the sudden rise in childhood autism, asthma and diabetes, and many other diseases and disorders.

This same bacterium may be the primary cause of schizophrenia, allergy, digestive tract problems, Parkinson's disease and even cancer.

Even more alarming, it appears more than 95% of the population may be infected by this bacterium, or will experience future or recurrent infection. Complicating the problem is the fact that this germ cannot easily be detected in the human body, even by the best microbiologists.

Furthermore, this germ is spread by the most innocent of foods, a food you likely have in your refrigerator.

Since antibiotics are now growing weaker, and a totally-drug resistant form of stealth bacterium is now taking hold in the population, humanity will be forced to search for alternatives to antibiotics. Nature provides such natural alternatives, and they are revealed in The Hidden Epidemic.

According to Sardi, "the world is currently distracted by the remote chance of a mutated form of bird flu sweeping the globe when another pathogenic germ has already infected most of humanity and is poised to kill millions, if not cause massive chronic disease."

Fully referenced and indexed, The Hidden Epidemic (117 pages) will take readers on a medical horror story that ends with the hope of eradication by means other than prescription antibiotics.

It's likely you, your friends and loved ones are already affected by this Hidden Epidemic. Before it takes its toll on your household, learn how to conquer The Hidden Epidemic.

Animal Rights Group Schedules Second UC Press Conference in Sacramento

Animal Rights Group Schedules Second UC Press Conference in Sacramento

Animal rights activists have requested a meeting with the Chancellor of the University of California, Larry N. Vanderhoef, in hopes of negotiating substantial changes for the UC Davis laboratories. Spokesman Michael Budkie of Stop Animal experimentation Now (S. A.E. N.) says “The health and well-being of the approximately 4500 primates who are confined at the University of California, Davis are a serious concern.” A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday, October 11 at 10:00 a. m.

Davis, CA; Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) October 10, 2006

Animal rights activists have requested a meeting with the Chancellor of the University of California, Larry N. Vanderhoef, in hopes of negotiating substantial changes for the UC Davis laboratories. Spokesman Michael Budkie of Stop Animal experimentation Now (S. A.E. N.) says “The health and well-being of the approximately 4500 primates who are confined at the University of California, Davis are a serious concern.” In September, a coalition of animal rights groups, led by S. A.E. N. and the Physician Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), scheduled a press conference which criticized UCLA research protocols.

S. A.E. N. recently completed an assessment of the overall condition of animals at UC Davis by examining the post mortem records for primates who died at the facility from August 2003 through February 2006. This examination involved records for a total of 590 primates, both infants and adults. Among the concerns cited by S. A.E. N. are dehydration, gastrointestinal problems brought on by stress, infant abuse, self-mutilation, and malnourishment. Budkie says that animals kept in stressful research conditions do not provide meaningful research data and are “a waste of federal funding for these facilities.”

Budkie blames lack of proper caging as one factor which contributes to stress in the laboratory animals.

“Their space is severely limited, such that a 33 – 55 pound primate lives in a space of 8 square feet. This is like a 165 pound human spending their entire life in a space that is 3 feet by 8 feet. These cages are made of stainless steel, containing at most a perch and a stuffed toy,” Budkie said.

Wednesday’s press conference will introduce a former UC Davis employee/animal caretaker who is coming forward to explain the conditions at the UC Davis labs. S. A.E. N. will present Chancellor Vanderhoef with a request for mitigation which will include:

1. Unannounced tours of UC Davis laboratories with news media present.

2. A schedule for the gradual reduction of the number of animals in UC Davis laboratories, so that funding can be directed into clinical and epidemiological research.

3. Immediate free access to all records relevant to animal research at UC Davis including: animal health care records, research protocols, and internal UC Davis inspection reports.

4. Immediate elimination of the use of primate restraint chairs, paralytic drugs, and water deprivation as a part of all UC Davis experimental protocols.

Members of the media are welcome to arrive at 10:00 a. m. in the Renaissance Room at the Howard Johnson’s located at I-80 and Mace Road (4100 Chiles Road) in Davis, CA. Any questions may be directed to Michael Budkie at 513-703-9865.

S. A.E. N. (www. saenonline. org) was founded in 1996 to force an end to the abuse of animals in laboratories. Its first major event was a news conference that revealed the suffering endured by dogs, rabbits, and primates in 9 laboratories across the United States. Since then, S. A.E. N. has investigated abuses of animals and violations of federal law inside dozens of American laboratories including: Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Emory, Stanford, and the Universities of California, Wisconsin, Florida, Alabama, Connecticut, Nevada, Iowa and Washington.

Thousands of Ukrainian Orphans Need Hope, Love, a Future and a Better Life Then What They Have Been Given

Thousands of Ukrainian Orphans Need Hope, Love, a Future and a Better Life Then What They Have Been Given

Too many orphans reside in Ukrainian Orphanages and will get nothing for Christmas. Sadly, too many even live in the streets. In fact, hundreds of thousands. Cold, wet, hungry with little chance for a future and very little hope that things will change.

(PRWEB) December 19, 2004

From: The United Orphaned ChildrenÂ’s Fund of Philadelphia. Established to help disadvantaged children and youth in the country of Ukraine.

December 18, 2004

The world sure has changed in one year. But not a whole lot changes for the thousands of street children and orphans living in Ukraine. No family, little future, and so little hope. The current events there have brought some light to this country that has been somewhat secluded from the rest of the world. A darkness of social and political corruption has had a firm grip on this former Soviet Union republic. The tug-a-war between the West and the East has Ukraine placed squarely in the middle of Democratic reform and Russian domination. With Russia flexing its muscles once again, and trying very hard to “fix” the outcome of the current Presidential election going on there, Ukraine is in a crux. Will there be freedom from corruption? Will there be Democratic reform? And will the economic crisis ever end?

Meanwhile the children are suffering. Family life there has been diminishing. “For the close to the 70 or so odd years when Ukraine was under Soviet domination, the Soviet government made every effort to create a new being reflecting the glory of their proletarian philosophy and the workers’ revolution. This resulted in a stilted creature called “Homo Sovieticus”. Unfortunately, this merely brought out extreme manifestations of the worst social attributes in the Ukrainian populace, and a massive breakdown of the basic unit of society, the family. The result of this socialist experiment is a large amount of children in Ukraine know who have been abandoned. Many live on the streets, others maybe considered luckier, and are living in orphanages. What took 70 years to destroy cannot be rebuilt in a day…a week… a month… a year… a decade… or even a generation. But that does not mean we can close our eyes to this tragedy, and hope it goes away. For if even my smallest brother cries, do not I cry too? We must do what we can to dry their tears, and give them a little bit of joy in their lives.” Insert by Nykola Rudnytzky and Ihor Stefan Bilynsky.

The UOCFP is growing slowly, but unfortunately there is a limit as to what we can do right now. But there is no limit as to what we can do in the future, if we had more support behind us. So, why should you care and support us? Well, thousands of orphaned children desperately need your help, and that should be sufficient enough. Like we say on our web site; you canÂ’t ignore a child that truly needs your help. You canÂ’t be blind to a bad situation. You must do all you can to help. If you donÂ’t, then what kind of person are you?

On a bright note, finally our book, Mountains of Grace, is completed! It soon will be available through Xlibris. You will be able to order it through our web site, or soon through the Ingram Publishing and Xlibris sites. We are truly proud of this fifty plus page (11” x 8.5”) photo picture book, with our story about our bicycle ride across Europe in the summer of 2000, and about my subsequent trip afterwards in 2002. With fifty breathtaking color photos, flashbacks about our ride across Europe, and weeks spent in the Carpathian Mountains with the really wonderful Ukrainian orphans, we think you will find it most interesting. Plus any proceeds received from the book will support our projects. The book will retail for around twenty dollars in soft back. Please check our web site (uocfp. org) for the latest info about this book and how you can order it.

And by the way, please by all means check out our new web site! We are constantly improving it and recently we changed it again. Instead of using the colors dark red and black, we changed it to blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag. These colors are symbolic, as blue stands for the vast Ukrainian sky, and yellow stands for the thousands of square miles of wheat fields.

In 2005, we plan to make at least one or possibly two humanitarian trips to Ukraine. On one trip, we hope to join (God willing) Sister Mary Bernarda Arkatyn, a eighty plus year old nun who has been traveling to Ukraine for the past decade delivering aid, food, clothing and a little spiritual uplifting to hundreds of orphans from all over Ukraine. She spends two months traveling all about visiting more than two-dozen different orphanages and pays for most of the expenses herself! It will be an honor to help her and to spend some time with this remarkable nun and travel with her to many of the orphanages she usually visits.

Please read about our other 2005 projects on our web site. We’ve listed them, and also added a “results” column right next to them. Raising money seems to be the hardest task we consistently face, but it is very easy to find a million ways were it could be spent and were it is much needed. If you could help us this year, it would be much appreciated. Please remember, its much better to give then receive. But even if you can’t or won’t support us, still drop us a line and let us know how you feel about what we are doing. Any form of feedback is always appreciated.

May everyone who takes the time to read this letter have a peaceful and blessed holiday season. May you find yourself, your family and friends healthy and in good spirits. Just donÂ’t forget, of all the treasures in this world, there is nothing more precious than giving someone a piece of your heart! Thousands of orphaned kids in Ukraine need your love. Please show them that you care!

May God truly bless and look after all of the orphans in the world!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all!

Sincerely,

Steve Vetterlein and Olexandra Hnypiouk of the UOCFP

Operation Smile Celebrating 25 Years, 100,000 Smiles - And We've Just Begun

Operation Smile Celebrating 25 Years, 100,000 Smiles - And We've Just Begun

Operation Smile launches its 25th anniversary year in 2007, having grown into a worldwide children's medical charity dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children and young adults. Operation Smile volunteers have medically treated more than 100,000 children and young adults around the world and in the United States.

Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) January 19, 2007

Operation Smile launches its 25th anniversary year in 2007, having grown into a worldwide children's medical charity dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children and young adults. Operation Smile volunteers have medically treated more than 100,000 children and young adults around the world and in the United States. Last year alone, medical volunteers provided free surgeries for 9,334 children through both international medical missions and in-country local missions.

According to Operation Smile Co-founder and CEO Dr. William Magee: "We could never have accomplished so much over the past 25 years without the dedicated support of our volunteers, donors and staff." His wife and Co-founder of the organization, Kathy Magee added: "This journey has been one we have been privileged to share with so many wonderful people, all of whom we thank for helping make this organization a global success."

With its headquarters based in Norfolk, Va., Operation Smile draws upon a global network of thousands of credentialed plastic surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, dentists, pediatricians, speech pathologists, child life specialists and biomedical technicians who volunteer their time and talent. For its International Mission program, Operation Smile currently sends teams of medical volunteers from all over the world on two-week medical missions to designated sites in 25 partner countries, airlifting millions of dollars of donated medical supplies and teams of medical professionals to hospitals in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

In addition to International Missions, Operation Smile conducts education initiatives to provide our partner countries with specialized skills to treat children with facial deformities on their own, with their own resources, their own volunteers, their own supplies and their own medical professionals. Education programs are tailored to each partner country's specific medical infrastructure. Operation Smile integrates its partnerships with leading medical teaching institutions into each of its in-country medical education programs. Operation Smile's partners include the American Heart Association, Harvard University, Chang Gung Hospital and University (China), Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Duke University, George Washington University, University of Southern California and Yale University. The annual Operation Smile Physicians' Training Program (PTP) brings doctors from around the world to the United States for advanced training in their specialized skills. To date, Operation Smile has brought more than 650 medical professionals to Norfolk, Virginia, for PTP.

In 2006, nearly two-thirds of the children who received surgery through Operation Smile did so through locally-conducted Operation Smile programs. More than 50% of Operation Smile's partner countries are now treating children on their own through local initiatives with their own volunteers and their own resources.

Through the participation of their daughter, Brigette, on the organization's first mission, the Magees learned the impact a young person's energy and empathy can have on the children being treated, as well as the life-changing experience that volunteering for Operation Smile is for young people. Since that discovery more than 450 Operation Smile Student Associations have been launched in the United States and around the world to build awareness, raise funds and educate students about the values of commitment, leadership and volunteerism. At least two high school students accompany each international mission team and serve as student educators to present basic healthcare information to patients and families.

Operation Smile launched its 25th Anniversary year in November 2006, announcing a year-long, multi-faceted series of initiatives to include the following:

Global Standards of Care - Operation Smile announces a plan to implement Global Standards of Care for all of its medical programs as a commitment to ensuring that every patient treated by Operation Smile will benefit from the same sophisticated equipment, procedures, and highly trained and credentialed medical staff, no matter where they receive care around the world. Comprehensive Care Centers - Operation Smile will open Comprehensive Care Centers in Colombia, Honduras, Morocco, China, India, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Each Center will provide surgical treatment and post-operative follow-up for thousands of additional patients, especially those in remote areas. The Centers will also help train medical volunteers, strengthen local development and fundraising activities and provide on-going administrative support for in-country activities. International Forums on Medical Diplomacy - As part of its ongoing effort to create a global humanitarian network to bring healing to the world's children, Operation Smile will host international forums on medical diplomacy. World Journey of Smiles - The year-long anniversary celebration will culminate in November 2007, with the World Journey of Smiles, 40 simultaneous missions in 25 countries with a goal of treating an estimated 5,000 children living with facial deformities.

January Calendar of Events:

The new 33,600 square-foot facility will be entirely air-conditioned to create the most ideal environment for preserving the freshness and shelf-life of candy and chocolate in its candy store. Unlike many of its competitors, CandyWarehouse does not drop ship and can carefully monitor the quality of its bulk candy and other products, especially during hot summer months. CandyWarehouse will be in good company. El Segundo has the second highest concentration of Fortune 500s in the state of California, behind San Francisco. That's not bad for a small beach city just over five square miles in size. El Segundo has managed to attract the cream of the crop in aerospace, information technology, manufacturing, health care, oil refining, and other key industries (see http://elsegundobusiness. com/biz_f500.htm). El Segundo is located approximately one mile from both the Pacific Ocean and Los Angeles International Airport, where the temperate weather and close proximity to one of the largest airports in the world provides customer assurance that their candy remains fresh during transport and is shipped out fast. “During warm weather, our UPS and FedEx priority packages containing meltable candy will be shipping out of an airport that is generally 20 degrees cooler than airports used by our competitors,” says Mr. Pratt. El Segundo is also close to the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, which will provide ready access to imports from around the world. CandyWarehouse recently created an Asian Candy section, has added products from Germany (Reber Chocolate Specialties and Asbach Uralt) as well as France (Abtey Chocolates), and will continue adding other international favorites. The new facility will also house a delightfully whimsical showroom where customers can browse, sample and learn about all things candy as well as personally pick up their online orders.

About CandyWarehouse. com, Inc.
Since 1998, CandyWarehouse. com (http://www. candywarehouse. com) has been the leading candy store online, providing popular and hard-to-find as well as nostalgic and the latest-trend candy delivered fresh and fast to customers both domestically and internationally. The company sells to businesses and individuals and carries more than 5,000 varieties of candy and candy related products.

Open-Xchange Inc. Enhances Support for Mobile Devices with Free, Limited Time Upgrade Offer

Open-Xchange Inc. Enhances Support for Mobile Devices with Free, Limited Time Upgrade Offer

SyncML Technology Enables Smooth Interface With Most Mobile Devices; Major Swiss Hospital Chooses Open-Xchange Server for Latest Innovation.

Tarrytown, NY (PRWEB) December 11, 2005

Open-Xchange, Inc. today announced a significant extension -- releasing a SyncML OXtender free through March into the core product, Open-Xchange Server. Users of the popular open source collaboration server can now seamlessly connect and interface with most mobile devices.

SyncML is the open standard that drives data mobility by establishing a common language for communications between devices, applications and networks. The foundation of the SyncML open standard ensures a consistent set of data that is always available on any device or application, at any time. To participate in the SyncML OXtender technology preview, customers can go to http://www. open-xchange. org/oxwiki/SyncML (http://www. open-xchange. org/oxwiki/SyncML).

"As networking of devices continues to flourish, so does the demand for universal solutions for synchronization," said Frank Hoberg, CEO, Open-Xchange. "Until now, synchronization of data has been restricted to certain devices and applications. SyncML is becoming the cross-platform standard -- solving compatibility issues. Support for it in Open-Xchange Server means users do not have to spend a lot of time and money on the installation and configuration of all the different applications and devices now required for data synchronization."

Open-Xchange Server Empowers Mobile Healthcare Workers

Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois, a 7,000-employee university hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, chose Open-Xchange Server as their future collaboration platform largely because of its mobile capabilities. Today and in the near future, personal digital assistants (PDA) and smartphones - the fusion of telephone, calendar, address book, text receiver and sender - will help to organize the increasingly complex hospital routines in a smooth and efficient way.

"For hospital staff overall availability and 'reachability' is a must," said René Patthey, hospital CIO. In addition to the stability and performance of our 5000 workstations, the connectivity of an increasing number of users with mobile devices became important. The hospital staff already uses 560 Palm PDA's models M515, T2 and T3, following a strong growth trend.

"With Open-Xchange we enjoy a strong customer orientation of the provider and a close proximity to product development which is very unique," said Patthey. "An outstanding example was the development of PDA's and Smartphone's connectivity via the standardized SyncML interface. We were integrated in early development and test phases and were able to discuss our needs. Accordingly the results met our requirements in an unparalleled way. With Open-Xchange Server we were able to avoid additional and costly custom development that would have been necessary with alternative solutions."

About SyncML

The foundation of the SyncML open standard ensures a consistent set of data that is always available on any device or application, any time. Sponsored by Sony Ericsson, IBM, Lotus, Matsushita, Motorola, Nokia, Symbian, Palm and others, the SyncML initiative accelerates the development and market success of SyncML technologies. SncML is part of the Open Mobile Alliance (http://www. openmobilealliance. org/ (http://www. openmobilealliance. org/)).

Availability and Pricing

The release of "SyncML OXtender" is scheduled for mid-December and will be available to all current and future customers of Open-Xchange Server 5 free through February 28, 2006. Beginning March 1, one year of Maintenance for the OXtender will be $495 for the first 25 Named Users, and $19.00 for each additional Named User.

Public Relations Firm VSC Consulting Expands Reach to India With Announcement of Mumbai Office Opening : San Francisco and London Based Public Relations Firm Aims to Extend Cadre of Leading Digital Media Clients to India

VSC Consulting, one of top U. S. boutique public relations firms in digital media and marketing, is expanding its footprint and client reach to India, adding to its global presence in San Francisco, New York City and London. The company has built an award-winning practice in North America and Europe, and is known for connecting clients with key players and influencers across Silicon Valley, Hollywood, Wall Street, High Street and now Marine Drive.

SAN FRANCISCO & NEW YORK & LONDON & MUMBAI, India (PRWEB) December 12, 2008

"In light of recent events, now more than ever it's important to show the world that the international business community will rally around Mumbai, India. We all can do our part. We are going to bring more business to Mumbai through fast growth startups, celebrity brands and innovative non-profits looking to engage with India," states VSC Founder Vijay S. Chattha.

VSC already has a media relations presence in India and has decided to open an office in Mumbai in order to better serve its clients who are looking to expand into India. Earlier this year, VSC served as Agency of Record to Reliance's Big Entertainment mobile division and launched Jump Games in North America.

VSC also has several clients with operations in India. Project Ahimsa, a global effort to empower youth through music, funds grantees in Gujarat and Kolkata, while the Patiala Health Foundation aims to build a new trauma center in Northern India. The agency has represented a variety of companies targeting the global Indian Diaspora in North America and Europe, and can now reach the largest Indian community logically based in India.

"We've taken sort of a reverse approach to launching South Asian brands, building a strong infrastructure outside of India with the Diaspora. Now it's time to go after the largest opportunity, which is the Indian domestic market," Chattha adds. "This reverse approach allows us to bring a different cultural and stylistic approach to communications that has proven to work on a global level with local relevance."

Three other VSC clients in North America will be extending their reach into India through the new Mumbai office, slated to open in January 2009. VSC is looking for talented senior account managers and consultants to apply for positions.

Virginians ‘Weigh-In’ on the Effectiveness of the TrekDesk Treadmill Desk

Virginians ‘Weigh-In’ on the Effectiveness of the TrekDesk Treadmill Desk

TrekDesk treadmill desks allow an individual to walk all day while working. The health benefits are multiple and reviews from Forbes. US News & World Report, CNN and Virginia corporate and home users have been excellent.

Phoenix, AZ (Vocus) December 8, 2010

TrekDesk Treadmill Desks, completing their first year of sales, has received favorable reviews from Forbes, US News & World Report, CNN, FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC and NPR. The reviews from Virginia residents who use the TrekDesk on a daily basis have also been excellent.

CS in Charlottesville, VA noticed an immediate benefit. “After 30 days using the TrekDesk, I've walked 175 miles instead of sitting slumped in a chair while doing my computer work and watching TV. Walking 1.5-2mph, I have no problems typing. I've already dropped 5 pounds, lowered my blood pressure, get to sleep earlier, and just feel better all around! The TrekDesk itself is excellent - assembly was easy if you're just slightly handy with tools. The desk is sturdy, current holding my 27" iMac plus a 20" monitor for my PC, and all the other doodads I need for business, plus plenty of room for paperwork, and of course my drink goes in the included cup holders. Amazing to think about -- assuming I keep up the same pace of 175 miles per month, I'll walk over 2,000 miles per year while doing my computer work -- instead of sitting in a chair!"

Designed to fit any existing treadmill, TrekDesk is an affordable, full sized workstation that allows individuals the opportunity to gain the necessary amount of exercise daily to maintain health, prevent disease, strengthen muscles, boost mood and productivity, without requiring additional time during the day or extra motivation.

“The reviews TrekDesk receives speaks volumes as to the effectiveness of walking while working. Our mission is to start a ‘Movement Revolution’, convincing Americans that movement throughout the day will dramatically improve their health, mood, weight and productivity. These reviews help ignite the conversation,” stated Steve Bordley, CEO of TrekDesk. com.

TrekDesk is currently available for sale online at TrekDesk. com for $479.00 including free shipping.

Agfa HealthCare and Vocada Agree to Integrate Systems; Combined PACS/CTRM System Will Address Radiologists' Need for Test Result Management

Agfa HealthCare and Vocada Agree to Integrate Systems; Combined PACS/CTRM System Will Address Radiologists' Need for Test Result Management

Agfa HealthCare, a market leader in Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS), and Reporting, and Vocada, Inc., a leading provider of Critical Test Result Management (CTRM) solutions, have agreed to integrate their systems and offer radiologists an improved methodology for clinical result distribution and notification.

Chicago (PRWEB) December 1, 2006

Agfa HealthCare, a market leader in Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS), and Reporting, and Vocada, Inc., a leading provider of Critical Test Result Management (CTRM) solutions, have agreed to integrate their systems and offer radiologists an improved methodology for clinical result distribution and notification.

The companies announced the strategic alliance at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, being held in Chicago, Nov. 26 - Dec. 1, 2006.

"This integration will provide radiologists with a user-friendly interface for PACS, Reporting and communicating critical patient findings," said Thomas White, co-founder and executive vice president of Vocada. "The combination will enhance patient safety and boost staff productivity at the same time."

Delays in the communication of critical test results can have an adverse effect on the delivery of healthcare. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the National Institute of Medicine have identified these types of communication problems as a threat to patient safety. JCAHO's National Patient Safety Goals specifically address the issue.

Vocada's Veriphy™ CTRM solution offers one-step convenience and automates compliance with all legal and professional standards concerning critical communications. It is a hosted system that requires no additional investment in hardware or software. CTRM is a technology-based strategy to improve patient safety and outcomes and boost staff productivity. It does this by verifying the communication of critical test results from a reporting clinician to the responsible ordering clinician in time to benefit the patient.

"Healthcare providers are always looking for ways to improve the quality of patient care and improve workflow efficiencies. The combination of Agfa HealthCare's and Vocada's solutions provide tangible benefits for the user and the patient," said Lenny J. Reznik, business unit manager, RIS, PACS, Reporting, Americas, Agfa HealthCare. "Because of our open systems architecture, we have the ability to interface with technologies such as Vocada's and deliver more comprehensive solutions resulting in better patient care."

About Vocada, Inc.

Vocada's Veriphy critical test result management solution is the only enterprise solution for communicating critical test results from hospital diagnostic departments to ordering clinicians. Using a patented, hosted system, Veriphy automates and verifies communication of critical test results in a real-time, assured and trackable solution, simultaneously enhancing patient safety and boosting physician productivity. The privately held, Dallas-based company was founded by brothers Peter and Thomas White, who were previously involved with other innovative and successful technology ventures. The company introduced its first product, VoiceLink™, predecessor to Veriphy, in 2004. For more information, visit http://www. vocada. com (http://www. vocada. com).

LÛCRUM Forms Strategic Alliance with AnswerPal

LÛCRUM Forms Strategic Alliance with AnswerPal

LÛCRUM, Inc., a Cincinnati based independent software development and consulting firm today announced a strategic partnership with AnswerPal, India, an IT services provider specializing in eBusiness and Enterprise Integration solutions.

(PRWEB) April 20, 2002

LÛCRUM, Inc., a Cincinnati based independent software development and consulting firm today announced a strategic partnership with AnswerPal, India, an IT services provider specializing in eBusiness and Enterprise Integration solutions.

Under the agreement, LÛCRUM plans to offer new global outsourcing services to its Fortune 1000 clients and will use AnswerPal’s offshore development center (“ODC”) to leverage the additional capacity and expertise in Microsoft. net technologies.

The ODC will offer 24x7 development and significantly save development costs for LÛCRUM’s customers. LÛCRUM will continue to execute core competency functions locally such as strategic planning, problem solving, design, architecture and project management for the business intelligence applications. The partnership is a result of customers continuing to ask LÛCRUM for more choices: the traditional local services that LÛCRUM has provided them in the past, as well as the emerging cost-conscious onshore/offshore service offering.

“In today’s economy, organizations are constantly under pressure to do more with less and to do things faster and better in order to differentiate themselves from their competition.” “Yet with slashed budgets and today’s tight economy, hiring additional personnel with the expertise to accomplish these goals is not always an option,” explains John Bostick, President and CEO of LÛCRUM.

“Our goal at LÛCRUM is to help our clients identify and solve their specific business needs using the most economical solution,” said Bostick. Our partnership with AnswerPal enables us to deliver additional ‘just-in-time’ technical expertise plus the highest quality of services to our clients at a lower cost.”

AnswerPal will open an offshore project office and development center for LÛCRUM in Bangalore, the silicon valley of India. The development center will staff highly skilled IT professionals aiding LÛCRUM’s projects with F1000 companies. AnswerPal is known for its creative IT services model, which offers US companies a unique service to set up an “ODC”. The “ODC” employees are professional developers of the US company, yet the US company is not required to have any US management offshore, eliminating the need to cross some of the cultural and bureaucratic boundaries to take advantage of India’s low-cost, high quality talent pool. AnswerPal also assists their US partners to differentiate between work that must be performed onsite versus work better suited for offsite (offshore) development such as Enterprise Integration Services, Application Porting and Maintenance, Experimental R & D, Development of Educational and Training Courses, etc. AnswerPal’s management and employees represent the product of India’s Ivy League institutions in information technology. AnswerPal provides a range of eLearning and software development services to IBM and some other F1000 companies in the USA.

“The singular focus that CIO’s and CTO’s have today is to get the best out of their limited dollars and that is exactly what we are here to offer,” says Dr. Subramanian, CEO of AnswerPal. “The expertise and infrastructure the partnership offers locally and globally will make LÛCRUM/AnswerPal the most suitable partner for companies in the tri-state region of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, to implement their global outsourcing strategies.”

Outsourcing is not a new concept, however, the old risk of success was much higher than today. Using a global service organization with a U. S.-based firm is business as usual in todayÂ’s market place. Companies have outsourced various services they have needed for years, from cleaning, shipping, payroll, even IT.

About LÛCRUM

Founded in 1993 by John Bostick with headquarters in Cincinnati, LÛCRUM is an independent strategic consulting firm that develops eBusiness, analytical and operational solutions for manufacturing, health care, financial services, and general business based on financial impact and return on investment (ROI) maturity.
