The problem with dog waste management in our cities is reflected in the Pooper Scooper Laws, both in the U. The smell alone is also a good incentive to pick it up, as well as irate neighbors (who complain of the smell). Picking up dog poop is also the best solution if you have a dog who likes to snack on "poop-sicles" (coprophagy).

Keeping the yard clean keeps your dog cleaner, since the dog won't be stepping or playing in the mess on relief trips outside. A clean yard also gives your dog more exercise space.

How serious a problem is pet waste?

• Decayed pet waste seeps into the ground, sending E. coli, a bacteria that lives in the intestines of warm-blooded animals, and potential pathogens into the ground water and eventually waterways.

• Rainwater run-off may wash contaminated pet waste into storm sewers and from there into lakes, rivers and streams.

What is the problem?

• The current No. 1 water pollution problem comes from non point source pollution.

• Non point source pollution means the pollutants come from several sources instead of one discharge point.

• Non point pollution occurs away from waterways; so many people do not realize they are contributing to water pollution.

• Pet owners do not pick up and properly dispose of their pets’ waste.

• Cars leak fluids such as oil or antifreeze on the pavement.

• Property owners do not follow directions and put too much fertilizer on their lawns.

• People wash their cars in their driveways or on the streets.

What can I do?

• Scoop up pet waste at least once a week.

• Flush the waste – as long as it isn’t mixed in with litter or other material – so that it is properly treated before it is disposed of.

• If local law allows, contain the waste in a plastic bag and toss it in your trash.

• If your community does not regulate the disposal of pet waste, encourage your town board, city council or county government to enact new laws.

• If your local parks do not provide pet waste stations, encourage them to do so.

Children often put their hands in their mouths, providing an easy route for bacteria to travel into their bodies. For example, children who eat dirt are more susceptible to contracting zoonotic diseases. Children also are more susceptible to pet-borne illness because they carry fewer antibodies than adults do. The same holds true for puppies and kittens.

Parvovirus (Parvoviral Enteritis or “Parvo,” for short) is highly contagious virus that can remain infectious in the ground. It causes severe infection in puppies and dogs. It invades and destroys rapidly growing cells in the intestine, bone marrow and lymphoid tissue resulting in nausea, vomiting and severe hemorrhagic (bloody) diarrhea. The ground can be contaminated with fecal material for five months or more if conditions are favorable. It is extremely hardy virus it can withstand wide temperature fluctuations and most cleaning agents. Parvo can be brought home to your dog on shoes, hands and even car tires.

In addition, much of the wood used to fuel the fire is from native trees which are rapidly decreasing in number. The crafts produced are sold in local tourist markets, generating a small income for these women - a first step towards financial independence. ProWorld volunteers are actively involved in providing workshops and support both practically and financially.

Chicon Ecotourism Project: Chicon is a neighbouring community of Urubamba. Due to poverty many children are unable to study beyond primary school and enter lives of extreme hardship and crime. The Chicon Ecotourism Project provides vocational training to some of the unemployed and under-educated youth. The success of the youth group could greatly benefit the future economic health of the community and transmit important knowledge and skills to a new generation.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 182,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year (one every three minutes) and 43,300 will succumb to the disease (one every twelve minutes).

San Diego based research skin health research firm, Noixia, has just made blackhead removal easier by allowing consumers to achieve spa-like deep pore cleansing at home.

San Diego based skin research firm Noixia has come one step closer to helping people intelligently enhance their image. This week Noixia introduced a new way to allow people to safely and completely extract blackheads.

According to Noixia president Naweko Nicole Dial, "Our new method for removing blackheads will help prevent unwanted acne scarring." Dial tags improperly extracting blackheads as a primary cause of acne scarring.

Noixia categorized blackheads as crystallized, malleable, superficial and deep to help consumers appreciate the shape and life cycles of blackheads and ultimately prevent acne scars. Dial justifies classifying blackheads by asserting, "You are more likely to cause acne marks when removing blackheads if you treat all blackheads the same."

Dial defines a crystallized blackhead as the type of pore clog that contains a mix of hardened oils, bacteria and dead white blood cells. The blackhead takes on a crystallized look when viewed under a microscope because as the white blood cells ("pus") that sterilize a damaged pore harden, they take on a crystal-like form.

In essence, Dial equates a crystallized blackhead to an iceberg explaining that, "You have no idea how large a crystallized blackhead is or what shape a deep blackhead has until it reaches the surface of the skin."

Like crystallized blackheads, malleable blackheads serve as a cosmetic nuisance. Malleable blackheads are sticky, yellowish blackheads that, Dial describes as, "Squiggly white worms as you squeeze them out of the pore."

Dial found that, "The biggest problem with malleable blackheads is that people can squeeze them every day and seemingly never get rid of the blackhead". The way to resolve the resurgence of malleable blackheads is to normalize oil production and remove the upper layers of debris that clog the pore.

To further describe blackheads, Dial distinguishes deep and superficial blackheads.

Deep blackheads are trapped in the pores and do not respond to most types of extraction, either manual or via vacuum. Dial notes that "Prematurely removing deep blackheads is probably the single most greatest cause of acne scarring."

Through research Dial has found that the smartest way to remove deep blackheads is to transform them into superficial blackheads.

Dial notes that superficial blackheads lie on the surface of the skin and almost all of the debris that is hiding behind the darkened tip of the blackhead is also above the surface of the skin. Dial points out that, "These types of blackheads are removed fairly easy with an exfoliating scrub.

To help consumers more completely remove all types of blackheads and more readily transform deep blackheads into superficial blackheads, Noixia has updated its instructions for using one of its most popular products, Blackhead Bandit.

Dial explains, "We found that heating Blackhead Bandit with a blow-dryer for one to two minutes while the cream is still on, opens the pores and helps to bring the deep, crystallized blackheads towards the surface of the skin faster than just using the cream by itself."

Paraplegic hip hop duo and acclaimed disability activist 4 Wheel City, are headed down to the “Dirty South” of Atlanta to perform in concert at the 2010 “Abilities Expo”.
