“We’re very fortunate, and grateful, to receive such generous donations from Quincy Mutual. With their financial support and with the tireless dedication of Claudia and Cheryl, we’re able provide the much needed assistance to elders in our community,” noted Ed Flynn, Director of South Shore Elder Services.

As Alternative Medicine Gains Acceptance, Massage Makes Great Career Choice

As Alternative Medicine Gains Acceptance, Massage Makes Great Career Choice

With insurance companies warming up to the idea of holistic coverage, now is an excellent time for a career in alternative medicine. A new article on LocalEdu. com reports that the alternative medicine industry in Westbrook, near Portland, Maine, provides educational opportunities in holistic massage therapy for people who are drawn to healthy living and relaxation. The top online resource for degree programs across the United States tells prospective alternative medicine students that attending classes in Westbrook comes with a fringe benefit of soaking up the natural holistic healing energy of the surrounding area.

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) March 8, 2007

With Unte. com reporting that "insurance companies are slowly catching on to the benefits of alternative treatments," LocalEdu. com advises people looking for a job change to consider careers in alternative medicine. Learning holistic massage therapy in a community of healers provides personal as well as career benefits, according to a new article, "Alternative Medicine Thrives in Westbrook, Maine" on top degree program site LocalEdu. com (http://www. localedu. com/state/maine/alternative-medicine-westbrook-maine. php (http://www. localedu. com/state/maine/alternative-medicine-westbrook-maine. php)). Potential students exploring career possibilities in holistic massage therapy can learn more about alternative medicine as a business at LocalEdu. com, a site that provides educational resources about a variety of industries.

In the March issue of Utne. com, Elizabeth Ryan reports that: "Holistic therapies such as acupuncture and shiatsu massage are becoming as mainstream and routine as a trip to the dentist. But getting adequate insurance coverage for such treatments is anything but the norm." However, Ryan reviews an "Alternative Medicine" report that states "insurance companies are beginning to capitalize on the popularity of natural alternatives, and consumers are starting to reap the benefits."

"Alternative Medicine Thrives in Westbrook, Maine" offers details about the town of Westbrook and the local programs in holistic massage therapy:

The Maine Medical Center in nearby Portland boasts an alternative medicine residency program.  The Portland/Westbrook metro area supports about 75 massage therapists, several yoga studios and more than 20 acupuncturists.  Local holistic massage therapy programs focus on the whole person, including the body, mind and emotions.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment for massage therapists is expected to increase faster than average in the coming years. In the 33 states regulating the industry, therapists who complete formal training programs are likely to have very good job opportunities.

According to LocalEdu. com, "Maine is home to top schools offering programs than can help build a career, get a start in the world and advance educational opportunities" (http://www. localedu. com/state/maine/index. php (http://www. localedu. com/state/maine/index. php)).

Now may be a good time to enter the field of alternative medicine and massage. Almost twice as many doctors recommended massage therapy to their patients in 2006 than in 2001 in a survey by the American Massage Therapy Association. The survey revealed that as of 2006, 25 million more Americans per year are getting massages than in 1996.

LocalEdu. com is an educational resource that provides students with information on cities, schools and educational programs. Students can search the LocalEdu. com directory to find universities, colleges and vocational schools anywhere they want to go to school -- from California to Florida, Texas to Illinois.

Is the Money You Spend on Vitamins and Supplements Truly Making a Difference to Your Health?

Is the Money You Spend on Vitamins and Supplements Truly Making a Difference to Your Health?

Billions of dollars are spent annually on vitamins and supplements. Are vitamin manufacturers getting rich at your expense? A Tempe, Arizona Chiropractor might have found the answer to this question.

(PRWEB) July 17, 2005

It is quite possible that the money you are spending on vitamin supplements and antioxidants is going down the drain, literally. The vitamin industry is one of the largest industries in the world, yet, until just recently, the effectiveness of the vitamins that we buy at the corner drugstore or supermarket to help us live longer, have more energy, feel better, or simply improve our general health, was determined by tests conducted by the manufacturerÂ’s themselves.

Though the vitamin industry performs some lab testing on their products using human volunteers, what we are not necessarily told to consider about the test results is that we are all genetic miracles and our body chemistries are as individual and unique as each and every snowflake that falls each year. With this in mind, how can a test conducted on someone else identify how well your body will absorb its daily vitamins? The answer, unfortunately, is not much! Does "not much" warrant the amount of money spent on vitamins and supplements daily?

Fortunately, todayÂ’s advances in technology have lead to the creation of equipment that can quickly and accurately test how well a human body is absorbing the vitamins it consumes. Since vitamin absorption is the key to getting the desired health benefits, this simple test can arm us with the knowledge to make educated investments in our future health by identifying which vitamins and supplements our body absorbs best.

Dr. J. J. Levine, from Tempe Arizona, is one of the creative Arizona Chiropractors that has caught on to this new era of technology and put it to use in his clinic, Innate Life Center. "I have always looked for viable, non invasive, diagnostic equipment that could help my patients achieve better health," said Dr. Levine. "After I saw a scanner demonstration I knew I had to have one for my clinic. To have a computer that can read a patientÂ’s antioxidant skin score in three minutes is a must have. I have been helping educate people and allowing them to see how well they are absorbing their antioxidants."

Only a handful of doctors and Chiropractors have implemented this equipment in their practices. In fact, the technology is so new that many people have not been exposed to it and have not had the opportunity to be scanned. The response to testing by patients at Innate Life Center has been exactly what you would expect – they love it. The information obtained is so critical that a patient of Dr. Levine’s, Michelle Viti, who takes vitamins and supplements on a daily basis had this to say. "After experiencing [my scan], my skepticism diminished! My initial Skin Carotenoid Score was 22,000 when it should have been 50,000 in the least! I was very disappointed considering my practice of preventative maintenance in establishing a healthy lifestyle. [I] received my second scan a week after my [new supplements] diminished. When my score showed 30,000 I was convinced and relieved - there was finally a product that proved it's worth!"

Anyone who takes vitamins and supplements could benefit greatly by having a scan performed to identify whether or not their vitamins and supplements are being absorbed into their bodies. If the test results show that they are not being absorbed, then your money spent on vitamins is being poured down the drain. If this is the case your doctor or chiropractor can discuss with you other vitamin and supplement options that you can try, and the test process can be repeated until you find the ones that work.

You can research vitamin intake scan equipment on the Internet, or consult your local health care provider. If you live or work in Tempe Arizona or the surrounding areas of Mesa, Phoenix or Chandler, and would like more information, contact Innate Life Center at 480-345-2080, or check out their website, www. back4health. com.

New e-Book by Bankix Systems Ltd., Titled 'Doctors in an Information Technology Age' Released

New e-Book by Bankix Systems Ltd., Titled 'Doctors in an Information Technology Age' Released

Bankix Systems Ltd has published its latest e-book. This 200-page e-book titled “Doctors in an Information Technology Age”, explores in detail the evolution of contemporary healthcare delivery worldwide, with most under increasing budgetary constraints, yet the demand for higher-quality healthcare persistent, and the role of doctors in engineering healthcare information and communication technologies to parlay the process.

Saskatoon, Canada (PRWEB) October 2, 2006

Bankix Systems Ltd has published its latest e-book. This 200-page e-book titled “Doctors in an Information Technology Age”, explores in detail the evolution of contemporary healthcare delivery worldwide, with most under increasing budgetary constraints, yet the demand for higher-quality healthcare persistent, and the role of doctors in engineering healthcare information and communication technologies to parlay the process.

The gap between a vision of healthcare delivery that guarantees access to qualitative healthcare for all and reality in many countries across the globe attests to the complexity of the issues involved in contemporary healthcare delivery on which its transition to the future hinges. It also indicates the need for urgent action to address these issues if we were to eliminate the gap. That doctors are key players in any initiative to do so is not in question and some indeed, would attribute the reasons for the gap, at least in part, to the seeming disinclination of doctors and the health industry as a whole to embrace healthcare information and communication technologies. This e-book emphasizes the need for doctors and other healthcare professionals to lead the efforts to promote the widespread diffusion of these technologies in the health industry, in both the clinical and non-clinical domains. It explores the mechanisms underlying the interaction of issues germane to healthcare delivery in both domains and the central role that doctors could play, managing the mechanisms in achieving this crucial, and indeed, historical role in the future of healthcare delivery.

It seems plausible that more effective policing of such laws as the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in the United States would inspire compliance by the health industry with its requirements for technological upgrades for a streamlined, more efficient claims processing simultaneously assuring privacy protection, for example. It might also be such that an appeal to virtue would rouse action from within independent of external encumbrances to prevent the inevitable disease burden on society that the lack of access to qualitative healthcare by many engenders. Regardless, the need for action in many health systems worldwide with healthcare spending soaring relentlessly, in many cases with little to show for it in the quality of health services provision is no doubt rife, and doctors need to be at its vanguard, as this e-book argues.

The evolution of healthcare delivery and progress in the technologies that have the potential to ensure not just its ability to achieve the dual healthcare goals of being qualitative and at once cost-effective, but also to spawn innovative models of care that would in turn stimulate interest in technological value creation, in a continuous, essentially symbiotic dyadic, are intertwined. The involvement of doctors in these processes seems likely to increase, as the very future of healthcare delivery, which in many countries is in a precarious balance unfolds, doctors the pivot.

This e-book would interest doctors and other healthcare professionals, and hospital staff and executives. It would also be useful to policymakers, health insurance firms, software vendors and other healthcare ICT firms, the public, health advocacy groups, the media, government agencies, health insurance companies, industry analysts and leaders, and other healthcare stakeholders.

SpiderTech is pleased to announce a new breakthrough product for Kinesiology Tape Therapy – SpiderTech Gentle. Developed by Nitto Denko, the original manufacturers of Kinesiology Tape products, SpiderTech Gentle was created for patients with sensitive skin.

SpiderTech Gentle products are scientifically formulated to minimize skin irritation through the use of Nitto Denko’s new Stratagel adhesive, reducing redness and itching typical to patients with low collagen, fragile, or sensitive skin. Stratagel combines a lower level of adhesive force with a pliability that allows the adhesive to conform to the micro-contours of human skin, generating a gentle adhesion that fixes the tape firmly, but reduces stress on the skin during wear and at removal.

"The new SpiderTech Gentle truly is a breakthrough product," states Dr. Kevin Jardine, SpiderTech CMO. “Nitto Denko’s StrataGeltm adhesive has allowed us to use SpiderTech Gentle on selected professional athletes with skin sensitivities, demonstrating its ability to adhere in extreme applications, as well as use it in-clinic on our patents with markedly lower levels of collagen to great success.”

SpiderTech Gentle is water resistant and is designed to remain on the skin for up to 3 days or more. Excellent for use with patients that exhibit skin irritation with standard Kinesiology tape products, SpiderTech Gentle allows for continuous application on patients with chronic conditions.

Neurological & Orthopedic Hospital Ranked No. 1 in Illinois, Among Top 5% in Nation for Spine Surgery

Neurological & Orthopedic Hospital Ranked No. 1 in Illinois, Among Top 5% in Nation for Spine Surgery

A new hospital quality study from HealthGrades finds the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago highly ranked for a number of criteria. The most notable honors are for spine surgery excellence, back and neck surgery, spinal fusion, and total knee replacement.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 15, 2008

For the second year in a row, the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago (http://www. neuro-ortho. org/) (NOHC) has been ranked No. 1 in Illinois and is among the top five percent in the country for spine surgery. That is according to the Eleventh Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study (http://www. healthgrades. com/media/dms/pdf/HealthGradesEleventhAnnualHospitalQualityStudy2008.pdf). Research analyzed patient outcomes at all of the nation's hospitals over the past three years. The study also concluded that NOHC is:

A recipient of the HealthGrades Spine Surgery Excellence Award two years in a row  The only hospital in Illinois to receive the Spine Surgery Excellence Award two years in a row  Five-star rated for spine surgery two years in a row  Five-star rated for back and neck surgery three years in a row  Five-star rated for spinal fusion two years in a row  Five-star rated for total knee replacement in 2009

In developing its 2009 healthcare quality ratings, released yesterday, HealthGrades analyzed more than 41 million Medicare hospitalization records from 2005 to 2007 at the nation's approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals.

As part of the nation's most comprehensive, independent analysis of hospital quality, HealthGrades found that patients treated at five-star rated hospitals for nine common procedures are 47 percent less likely to experience a major complication, such as post-operative infections or heart conditions, which can lengthen their hospital stay and increase costs. According to the study, if all Medicare patients had been treated at top-performing hospitals, like the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago (http://www. neuro-ortho. org/), compared to the lowest-performing hospitals during 2005-07, more than 123,000 major complications potentially could have been avoided.

"The study confirmed what we already know," says Dr. Leonard Cerullo, Medical Director of NOHC. "We have some of the finest spine surgeons and spinal care clinicians in the nation. In fact, only 52 hospitals in the country have been recognized as being in the top 5%, and we were one of them. To be the only hospital in Illinois is an even greater honor."

About Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital Of Chicago:
The Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago is the country's only freestanding acute care facility dedicated exclusively to neuroscience and orthopedic services. During 2007, more than 2,000 neurosurgical and orthopedic surgeries were performed at NOHC. The brain and spinal fusion surgeries at NOHC have been acknowledged by many of Chicago's well-respected insurance companies as having the fewest complications. A similar level of excellence is seen on the orthopedics side of the hospital. The total joint program at NOHC boasts one of the lowest infection rates of any hospital in the nation.

NOHC is located at 4501 N. Winchester Street in Chicago. For more information on NOHC, log on to http://www. neuro-orth. org (http://www. neuro-orth. org).

Insurance Company Introduces Online Resources to Help Consumers, Employers Keep Healthcare Costs Down

Insurance Company Introduces Online Resources to Help Consumers, Employers Keep Healthcare Costs Down

Health care costs are expected to rise between 10 and 13% in 2006. US Health and Life Insurance Company introduces a new web resource aimed at helping consumers manage their health care costs and improve their overall health.

Sterling Heights, MI (PRWEB) December 23, 2005

In the wake of large scale employer health care cut backs and rising costs, US Health and Life Insurance Company has launched a web tool designed to assist consumers in managing their health care costs.

Located at www. ushealthandlife. com, the “Members” section of the site features a Consumer Directed Health Care section with links to assist visitors in managing their prescription drugs costs, researching their hospitals and providers, obtaining specific disease and condition management, and general health and wellness resources.

Although initially designed by US Health and Life, a Michigan based insurance company, as a tool for its members enrolled in High Deductible Health Care/Health Savings Accounts, the online tools were made available to the general public as well.

“While our initial focus was our HDHP customer, we are acutely aware that anyone and everyone needs help in managing their health care costs,” says Dan Gorczyca, President of US Health and Life. “Our mission as an insurance company is not just to sell insurance, but to provide a service to the public. The decision to open the resources to anyone who needs them was easy.”

According to Milliman, Inc. the average cost of healthcare for a family of four rose to $12,214 in 2005 representing an increase of 9.1% from 2004. With medical costs expected to trend at increases between 10.5 and 13.0% and prescription drug costs expected to trend between 10 and 14% in 2006, many families are increasingly looking for ways decrease their health care spending.

According to Gorczyca, the resources on the site are also intended to help consumers make informed decisions and become better healthcare consumers. “As a society we haven’t been trained to look at our healthcare as a purchase, therefore we don’t shop around for the best solution-either in terms of quality or in terms of price,” says Gorczyca. “With deductibles and out-of-pockets on the rise, it’s important that consumers have information that allows them to make educated decisions on the cost of their healthcare.”

The primary benefit of the new site to consumers, however, is in its “clearinghouse,” according to consumers such as Lisa Smith. Smith, a single mother of two young children, says, “the value to me is that everything is right there in one place. I see commercials about programs such as prescription assistance but may not remember the specific site later. If I go to the USHL site, all the links are there. It’s my health care resource.”

California Pacific Homes and The Irvine Company Team Up with Foundation for Fifth Annual House Raffle to Raise Funds for Local Schools: For First Time, IPSF House Raffle Will Feature New Detached Home as Grand Prize

Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF), the originator of using a house raffle to help fund school needs, in partnership with California Pacific Homes and The Irvine Company, kicks off its fifth annual house raffle tomorrow to raise funds for the Irvine Unified School District. Founded in 2004, the house raffle program has sold more than 41,000 tickets and raised more than $8.4 million for Irvine public schools.

IRVINE, Calif. (PRWEB) January 24, 2008

Headlining this year's house raffle is the grand prize of a new California Pacific home at the homebuilder's Cortile neighborhood in Irvine - the first detached home ever offered in the fundraiser's five-year history.

The 2008 house raffle's grand-prize winner will win the new, detached home by California Pacific Homes, or may choose to take $600,000 in cash. The 1,497-square-foot, two-story home is located in the award-winning Village of Woodbury in Irvine, named "Best Master Planned Community of the Year" in 2007. The home features three bedrooms plus den, two-and-a-half bathrooms and a two-car garage. The model homes at Cortile are open for viewing at 101 Canal in Irvine from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. daily, including the model of the house raffle's grand prize.

More Drawings Mean More Winners

The 2008 IPSF house raffle features more drawings and more opportunities to win than ever before. As in previous years, the house raffle offers two early-bird bonus drawings for early raffle ticket purchasers. The prize for the first early-bird drawing is a 2008 Toyota Prius automobile. The first early-bird ticket deadline is 5 p. m. Friday, March 21, 2008. The second early-bird prize is a $25,000 cash prize. The ticket deadline for the second early-bird prize is 5 p. m. Friday, May 16, 2008.

New this year is an exclusive "Multiple Ticket Purchaser" category, in which all raffle ticket-buyers who buy two or more tickets will compete for a $10,000 cash prize in a drawing at the final grand-prize event. As an added bonus, those who purchase multiple tickets by the first early-bird deadline will be entered into an exclusive "Multiple Ticket Purchaser" early-bird drawing for a $5,000 cash prize, and those who buy multiple tickets by second early-bird deadline will be entered into another exclusive "Multiple Ticket Purchaser" drawing for a new 60-inch DLP HDTV.

There will be additional opportunities to win prizes by purchasing a ticket during a series of special, themed raffle events at California Pacific's Cortile neighborhood model homes. During these events, the public will have a chance to tour the model of the grand-prize home and explore the Village of Woodbury.

February 2 Football-themed Event

The first special house raffle event will be a football-themed IPSF House Raffle Kick Off event from 11 a. m. to 4 p. m. on February 2 - the day before the Superbowl - at the Cortile neighborhood model homes. Tickets purchased during the IPSF House Raffle Kick Off event at Cortile will qualify for bonus drawings later on February 2 for a 50-inch DLP HDTV, an iPod Nano and other prizes. The community is invited to enjoy a barbeque, participate in football-themed kids' kicking and passing activities, tour the model homes at Cortile - including the model of the grand-prize home - and see the first early-bird prize, a new Toyota Prius.

Additionally, tickets may be purchased at the Cortile models during the opening weekend of the raffle on January 26 from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. Tickets purchased on site at Cortile before 2 p. m. on January 26 will qualify for special, same-day, bonus-prize drawings for an iPod Shuffle.

Grand Prize Drawing

The raffle will also feature 11 cash prize drawings and numerous non-cash prize drawings during the final grand-prize drawing event. Cash prizes include: one award of $25,000, second prize; two awards of $10,000, third prize; three awards of $5,000, fourth prize; and four awards of $2,500, fifth prize. Non-cash prizes include items such as electronics, vacation packages and gift certificates.

How to Buy Tickets

Tickets for the raffle are on sale at $200 each and are available by visiting the IPSF Web site at www. ipsf. net or by calling the House Raffle Hotline at 949-73HOUSE (949-734-6873), Monday through Friday from 9 a. m. to 4 p. m. To be entered in all of the early-bird drawings and the grand-prize drawing, tickets must be purchased before 5 p. m. Friday, March 21, 2008. Tickets purchased after March 21 and until Friday, May 16, 2008, will be entered in the second early-bird drawing and the grand-prize drawing. After May 16, tickets will be entered in the final grand-prize drawing.

All tickets purchased before the early-bird deadlines will remain eligible for the grand-prize drawing. The grand-prize drawing will be held at a festive event scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2008 in Irvine. Ticket sales will end when 15,000 tickets are sold or at 5 p. m. July 25, 2008, whichever comes first. Winners need not be present to win.

Proceeds from the IPSF house raffle go to funding priorities established by the public schools foundation and the Irvine Unified School District. They include health education services, ninth grade class size reduction, after-school programs, teaching supplies and scholarships to enable all children to participate in educational programs.

Local Scooper First In Houston To Meet New Industry Standards

Local Scooper First In Houston To Meet New Industry Standards

Local entre-manure Deb Sullivan and Rover's Leftovers Poop Patrol, her dog waste clean-up service, is the first in Houston to step into the future of poop scooping when she joined The Association of Professional Animal Waste Specialists {aPaws}.

(PRWEB) January 29, 2003

“Becoming a member of aPaws was a natural fit for us” said Deb Sullivan. “We already met their strict code of conduct and their attitude towards the environment made joining an easy choice.”

President and Founder, Laura Sprinkles, who owns NIMBY Service in Seattle says, “After talking with scoopers from around the country, we felt the need to raise the level of professionalism and public awareness in this relatively new industry.” And new it is! Fifteen year ago there were a handful of poop-scooper companies. Now there are nearly 300 in the U. S. and Canada and the number is growing rapidly. However, with that growth comes a large number of people who think they can start a scooping business and “get rich quick.” “These guys and gals find out that it takes hard work to grow a business and some eventually give up. The greatest fear is not disinfecting their tools or shoes. It’s about time there was a code of ethics for our industry.” Says Eric Riker of Happy Tails Pet Services Inc. in Cleveland and aPaws Vice President.

“Being a member of aPaws should benefit my clients in other ways,” says Deb Sullivan; “we’ll always be up to date as far as educating ourselves and clients, since we have access to pertinent information available on the member’s only web site". "We have tried to remain on the leading edge of our industry,” Deb Sullivan continues, “And aPaws will help guarantee we do”. “Most dog owners usually don’t even think about the impact dog waste can have on them in regards to health issues,” adds Deb Sullivan. “Dog waste can host deadly parasites and viruses, some of which can infect humans, especially children.

Roughly 10,000 people are infected with Toxocariasis each year in the United States. This disease can cause blindness as well as affect the bodyÂ’s organs and central nervous system. To help prevent human infection, the U. S. Center for Disease Control recommends clean up of pet waste at least once a week.

RoverÂ’s Leftovers has been cleaning up after dogs, offering this affordable service in the Houston area since March 2000. RoverÂ’s Leftovers offers discounts for working dogs, seniors, and the handicapped as well as families who have adopted from Greyhound Pets of America, Houston SPCA, Houston Humane Society, and Second Chance Pets.

Little India Foundation Announces Launching of Its Website Littleindia. org

Little India Foundation has launched its website www. littleindia. org with two objectives. One is to disseminate globally the basic facts about Hinduism and the underlying Vedanta philosophy for Hindus as well as non-Hindus to promote pluralistic societies. The other is to report on its ongoing education, health, and welfare projects in Rural India for making others aware of the plight of people in those areas.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) July 29, 2006

Little India Foundation announces the launching of its website http://www. littleindia. org (http://www. littleindia. org). The website has two main objectives -- global dissemination of information on the basics of Hinduism and its culture for Hindus and non-Hindus alike, and to report on the progress of its projects to help poor and needy in India.

Little India Foundation (LIF) is a not-for-profit organization founded in Chicago in 1977. The objective was to help immigrant Hindus retain their religion and culture through successive generations. Therefore the emphasis was on teaching younger immigrant children the essentials of the religion.

As the immigrant community grew in different parts of the world it also became apparent that non-Hindus also get a better understanding of the world’s oldest religion in the interest of developing pluralistic societies. LIF has expanded its activities to meet that need through publications on its website.

At the same time the need for improving the existing living conditions in rural India remained urgent. Therefore the Foundation decided to start projects in India for improving education, health, and economic conditions in rural areas. Currently it has pilot projects in the state of Maharashtra.

Community volunteers do the work and the emphasis is on developing local resources using indigenous products and skills. An agricultural college project is underway to cultivate herbal plants to be used in pharmaceutical products. In another project LIF is supporting an orphanage cum elementary school for children from remote tribal areas.

The existing schools from elementary to college levels are being helped by volunteer teachers and also through scholarships for students from needy families. Again the emphasis is on creating motivation for improving the living conditions through better utilization of the local resources.

There is a plan for starting a school based on the ancient gurukul system incorporating some modern concepts as well. If the pilot project succeeds, the plan would be extended to the rest of the state and, eventually to other states as well.

As the project activities expand the resources required to carry on the work will increase immensely. The organization will need global support especially from Indians living or settled outside India. It is the hope of the Foundation that people would see these activities as a worthy cause and lend their unqualified support. For further information please contact us.

Arsetta Inc. Democratizes the Online Auction for Non-Profits

Arsetta Inc. Democratizes the Online Auction for Non-Profits

Arsetta Inc., developer of ReadySetAuction. com, the popular benefit auction management web-application, has evened the online auction playing field. Now any non-profit organization, regardless of size, can quickly and easily create and customize its own community online auction site and conduct an online auction using ReadySetAuction's powerful and affordable toolset.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 2, 2007

Let the Bidding Begin!

From an organization's auction home page that is branded with the organization's logo, banner, image and welcome text, supporters can view the online catalog, place bids, make direct cash donations, submit auction item/service donations, and even buy tickets to a gala event, if there is one. Moreover, ReadySetAuction's sophisticated bidding intelligence encourages lively bidding, resulting in higher bids and more proceeds for the organization.

Both grassroots organizations and large non-profits alike are thrilled with ReadySetAuction and are quickly realizing the rewards of this new online auction fundraising tool for their charities. Kelly Shea of the Community Relations department of Cardinal Health in Ohio used ReadySetAuction's Online Auction package to raise money for Cardinal Health's United Way Work Place Giving campaign. She explained, "Our online auction has been well received and is going strong. This is the first year we have done such a thing. We have received many compliments on the quality of the site, so thanks goes to Arsetta!"

Jeff Bourke of Lyondell Chemical Company had similar results. It was their most successful year ever for their United Way campaign. Borke explained, "ReadySetAuction allowed our local United Way campaign to increase our auction sales by 250% compared to our traditional silent auction! There was silence in the halls in the last minutes of the auction as the bidding wars peaked. The overall response from our employees was 'We want it again next year!'"

ReadySetAuction's Online Auction tool brings the charity auction into homes and offices of those who otherwise may not be able attend a gala auction event. Moreover, ReadySetAuction allows all non-profits -- even those whose budgets cannot afford to throw a large fundraising gala -- to raise funds simply and inexpensively while promoting their mission to their supporters and beyond.

"Fundraiser auction events have been around for years, with good reason," explains Sam Weiss, Arsetta, Inc. co-founder and CEO. "They are an incredibly effective way for an organization to raise funds while building community awareness and instilling passion for a cause. With this release, ReadySetAuction extends the reach of the charity auction event to a broader base of constituents, inviting greater participation. And ReadySetAuction gives non-profits who can not afford to rent a venue, provide dinner and staff an auction the opportunity to raise money in the virtual world."

Interested parties can view an online auction demonstration at http://demo. readysetauction. com/auctions/xyzorganization (http://demo. readysetauction. com/auctions/xyzorganization).

Substitute Mountain High Yoghurt for Sour Cream, Mayo, High-Fat Ingredients

Substitute Mountain High Yoghurt for Sour Cream, Mayo, High-Fat Ingredients

A healthy, delicious substitute for sour cream, mayonnaise, cream, and more is Mountain High Yoghurt. It cuts fat and calories but not flavor. That's good news when nearly 70% of American adults are classified as overweight or obese, and heart disease and diabetes are on the rise.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 20, 2009

Few people realize that yoghurt makes a delicious and healthy substitute for sour cream, mayonnaise, cream cheese, cream and other high-fat dairy products in recipes. Yoghurt, considered one of the top so-called super foods, has long been hailed for its health-supporting properties, but it also offers similar texture, consistency, creaminess, and flavor of less healthy foods. With obesity in the U. S. now costing America's health system nearly $147 billion annually and threatening to replace tobacco use as the top cause of preventable death, it's more important than ever to replace high-fat ingredients with natural, healthy alternatives.

If one cup of lowfat yoghurt is substituted for one cup of mayonnaise in a dip recipe, for example, it cuts out 157 grams of fat and 1,300 calories. Mountain High Yoghurt (http://www. mountainhighyoghurt. com/index. html)--a thick, creamy premium brand yoghurt that contains billions of live, active and probiotic cultures--is an excellent choice for such substitution. Best of all, home cooks can realize these savings in their favorite recipes without sacrificing flavor or richness.

Plain yoghurt makes a perfect one-to-one substitute for sour cream in dips and spreads, in side dishes like mashed potatoes, or in entrees like Beef Stroganoff (http://www. mountainhighyoghurt. com/recipes/beef_stroganoff. htm). A dollop on crepes, blintzes, baked potatoes and Mexican dishes is a refreshing, healthier garnish than sour cream. Plain Mountain High Yoghurt tastes just like sour cream--with a clean, palate-refreshing finish. But while regular sour cream packs 40 g of fat and 480 calories, whole-milk Original Style Mountain High Yoghurt contains only 8 g of fat and 180 calories per cup. Lowfat and Fat Free Mountain High Yoghurts are still lower in fat and calories.

Plain yoghurt can also be used as a substitute for heavy cream or half-n-half in soups and sauces. "Mountain High's smooth and creamy texture adds body to soups and sauces without the extreme fat and calorie loads of cream. It can even be used in a delicious, lowfat version of alfredo sauce (http://www. mountainhighyoghurt. com/recipes/alfredo_sauce. htm)," says Clint Goldsmith, Mountain High's brand manager. "In potato, tuna, pasta, and egg salads, it makes a refreshing substitute for mayonnaise." Mountain High Yoghurt is also a good base for homemade dressings for fresh green salads, but without the high sodium found in commercially prepared dressings.

Vanilla Mountain High Yoghurt can be used in fruit salads, parfaits, and desserts such as trifles. For a healthier cheesecake (http://www. mountainhighyoghurt. com/recipes/easy_no_bake_cheesecake. htm), some of the cream cheese can be replaced with Vanilla or fruit-flavored Mountain High. The result is just as rich and creamy but much lower in fat and calories. These Mountain High varieties also make a sweet garnish that's healthier than whipped cream or ice cream.

Cutting fat and calories is not just a fad for dieters and fitness buffs. It's become ever more critical for the health of the U. S. population. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the number-one cause of death in the U. S. is heart disease. Cutting dietary fat and cholesterol is very important for the prevention of this and other chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. "Using Lowfat or Fat Free Mountain High Yoghurt as a substitute for sour cream, mayonnaise, heavy cream, cream cheese and other foods is a wise choice if you want to reduce your fat, calorie, and cholesterol intakes," says Marketing Manager Ursula Webhofer. "Even our whole-milk Original Style Mountain High is much healthier than 'light' or 'low-fat' versions of mayonnaise, whipping cream, or cream cheese. The details can be found on our substitution chart (http://www. mountainhighyoghurt. com/html/substitution. htm) on our web site."

For more information, visit www. MountainHighYoghurt. com for hundreds of free recipes and http://www. mountainhighyoghurt. com/html/substitution. htm (http://www. mountainhighyoghurt. com/html/substitution. htm) to view a substitution chart comparing fat and calorie counts of standard ingredients to Mountain High. Visitors can also sign up for monthly e-mail newsletters with recipe ideas, health tips, and coupons.

About Mountain High: Mountain High's refreshing taste has made it the best-selling quart-size yoghurt in the Western United States. This premium-quality yoghurt uses only all natural ingredients, including rbST-free milk. Its Vanilla and fruit varieties are sweetened only with crystalline fructose, a low-glycemic natural sweetener. Its fruit flavors are derived from premium fresh fruits. All Mountain High products are also a rich source of live, active, and probiotic cultures such as L. acidophilus, B. bifidus, and L. casei. Every serving of Mountain High contains billions of these highly beneficial cultures.

Scientists Believe "Releasing" Quiets the Mind

For decades, thousands of people around the world have claimed a technique called "Releasing," quiets their minds. The Release Technique announces scientists at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania are confirming that the fMRI scans of participants taken while "Releasing" are proof individuals are more peaceful, and the technique seems to have lasting effects.

Sherman Oaks, CA (PRWEB) October 26, 2010

For decades, thousands of people around the world have claimed a technique called "Releasing," quiets their minds. Now scientists at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania are confirming that the fMRI scans of participants taken while "Releasing" are proof individuals are more peaceful, and the technique seems to have lasting effects.

For over fifty years, the Release Technique has proven to be a powerful, unique, simple, and very practical tool that dramatically improves the quality of life of individuals by teaching them how to eliminate any and all negativity instantly by using a method called releasing, or letting go. By releasing, practitioners learn to let go of negative thoughts, which helps them to create positive results in all areas including, health, finances, and relationships.

According to the Release Technique website, the method was developed in 1952 by Lester Levenson, a physicist from New Jersey, who had life threatening illnesses and doctors sent him home to die. While lying in his bed, he discovered the ultimate secret to achieving and maintaining perfect health, effortless wealth, deeply satisfying relationships, as well as a profound sense of peace, happiness and freedom—independent of outer circumstances by developing a method to release all of his negative feelings. When he did, his health miraculously healed and he lived 45 years after the doctors predicted he would live only a few weeks.

The Release Technique research was done by Dr. Andrew Newberg and Therapist Mark Robert Waldman, who head the research activities at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Spirituality and the Mind.

The team's ongoing research with various spiritual and meditation practices is to understand how intense prayer and meditation permanently change numerous structures and functions in the brain which alters one's values and the way reality is perceived. Their research proving spiritual and meditative practices quiet the mind, can be found in their ground-breaking book, “How God Changes Your Brain.”

"Both the training and practice of the Release Technique is very different than the training and practice of other meditation techniques we have studied," says Waldman. "We find it particularly interesting that the areas affected by the Release Technique are similar to the areas affected by meditators engaged in Buddhist practice, Christian Centering Prayer, and cognitively impaired individuals practicing an Asian chanting ritual. Substantial research from meditation practices have shown that stimulation in the above neural areas may have a wide range of benefits, including memory and cognitive enhancement, introception, improved decision-making, and better control in regulating emotions such as anxiety, depression, and irritability."

Larry Crane, Director of the Release Technique and best-selling author of “The Abundance Book,” and "Love Yourself and Let the Other Person Have it Your Way," says releasing can make your mind quieter than the monks in monasteries. Crane is a personal growth expert who has helped thousands of people around the world go free from emotional, physical and financial disorders by releasing.

“ Using the Release Technique, you’ll easily be able to “let go” of any “charged” feelings “on the spot," says Crane. "This includes fears, phobias, anxiety, stress and panic attacks. Life does not have to be a struggle. With the Release Technique, you will naturally enter into the flow state. All resistance and self-doubt will melt away like butter in a microwave! You can easily discharge any emotional agony including anger and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD)."

Music Executive Don Pooh Makes Hits With Famous Franchise

Music Executive Don Pooh Makes Hits With Famous Seafood Restaurant Franchise

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 19, 2007

Music executive Don Pooh is expanding beyond music with his own franchise restaurant chain, Famous Seafood. The 11-year music industry veteran co-executive produced Grammy Award winning Mary J. Blige's No More Drama album, and helped launch the career of rap vixen Foxy Brown. His latest protegé, singer/songwriter Wynter Gordon is scheduled to be released winter 2007 on his Don Pooh Music Group joint venture with Atlantic Records.

After successfully making his mark in music working with the likes of the Foxy Brown, Shyne, Mary J. Blige and others, Pooh decided to diversify his portfolio and delve into the food service industry. He quickly established his pedigree by investing and opening several successful restaurant franchises in the New York tri-state area, after which he decided to create his own brand.

"After discovering that only two to four percent of proven franchises fail, it made great business sense to start my own," explains Pooh. "Upon assessing the marketplace, I realized there was a void in the quick service restaurant (QSR) industry in the seafood segment." Coupling his music industry management experience and the knowledge acquired from developing several Papa John's restaurants and his Reign Lounge nightclub in downtown Brooklyn, Don Pooh set out to create a lucrative concept, which he coined Famous Seafood.

Steve Sillion, a partner at investment firm New City Partners, who recently closed a multi million dollar deal to acquire 32 Captain D's restaurants in Memphis, expresses his own excitement in the Famous Seafood venture. "We have no doubt that this concept has all the right ingredients for success," explains Steve. "Famous Seafood could possibly be to seafood restaurants what Subway is to sandwich places."

With stores located in Northern New Jersey, Brooklyn and Manhattan, Famous Seafood has entered into several franchise agreements, which puts the company on pace to open 15 units over the next 24 months. "I am very excited about the growth of the company," says VP of Marketing Paul Parris. "The consumer feedback has been incredible to our food, especially our 'healthier alternative menu options'. The secret recipes for the Famous Sauce, the Soul Slaw and the Famous Fried Lobster Tails are a sure hit with customers."

Business is Far Too Important to Be Left to MPs and Civil Servants

Thousands of new jobs and the UK's economic recovery are in jeopardy if politicians and civil servants continue to ignore Britain's Small Businesses. (PRWEB) December 2, 2010

Thousands of new jobs and the UK's economic recovery are in jeopardy if politicians and civil servants continue to ignore Britain's Small Businesses.

Terry Forsey, one of the UK's leading business coaches, says hundreds of Small Businesses need extra tax breaks and greater Government support to weather the recession and go on to create jobs for the growing number out of work from public sector cutbacks.

"Ministers and Civil Servants need to understand that small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of UK entrepreneurial talent and wealth creation" he says.

"Make no mistake. Their growth is crucial to sustaining the economic recovery. It is these companies which provide 50% of the country's economic output and a staggering 60% of all UK jobs".

Both the Prime Minister, David Cameron and the Government's Enterprise Tsar Lord Young claim to be backing Britain's Small Businesses.

But Terry Forsey says the time for rhetoric is running out and has produced a Entrepreneurs Manifesto - a 22 point business plan he'll be sending to the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and every constituency MP.

He wants senior civil servants to read it, too. I doubt if many civil servants at the Department for Business Innovation and Skills have any true perception of what is involved in running a Small Business.

"Most of what they and the politicians come up with actually cost Small Businesses a great deal of money - from finance and accountancy rules to health and safety initiatives.

"There's only one initiative that will actually increase the value of a Small Business and ensure its growth and survival - that's a strong and effective sales and marketing strategy."

Terry Forsey's Entrepreneurs Manifesto also calls for a The Queens Award for Entrepreneurs; civil servants to spend four week's a year working for a Small Business; and a Government-funded Apprenticeship Scheme for 16-19 year old school-leavers.

Hiring Outlook Both Promising and Challenging For Accounting and Finance Industry

Hiring Outlook Both Promising and Challenging For Accounting and Finance Industry

Lucas Group, a respected leader in professional recruiting, today announced results from its annual accounting and finance hiring manager survey, which reflect positive hiring projections for the next 12 months. Lucas Group is one of the nationÂ’s largest executive search firms.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 14, 2005 -

— Lucas Group, a respected leader in professional recruiting, today announced results from its annual accounting and finance hiring manager survey, which reflect positive hiring projections for the next 12 months. Lucas Group is one of the nation’s largest executive search firms.

The search firm predicts strong employment and business growth trends for the next 12 months. According to the survey, hiring needs are attributed to both company growth and attrition. More than 47 percent of participants feel company growth will increase this year, a significant increase from last yearÂ’s 36 percent.

“Growth in hiring is attributable to a growing economy and an increase in positions needed to meet Sarbanes Oxley compliance,” said CPA and Managing Partner Bill Kuchar for Lucas Group’s Houston Accounting and Finance division. “Our placements for accounting and finance professionals have substantially increased from last year, and we expect the increase to continue.”

Nearly 50 percent of industries that predict the strongest growth in accounting and finance employment opportunities include banking/finance, consulting, distribution, healthcare and high tech software companies. Additionally, 100 percent of high tech software companies expect company growth, which aligns with the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report that show software publishers as a leading industry with one of the fastest wage and salary employment growth from 2002-2012.

The BLS also reports financial activities employment reached an all-time high in 2004. With more than 67 percent of hiring managers planning to hire during the next year, accounting and finance professionals can expect ample employment opportunities.

The outlook is promising, but the industry also faces its challenges. Of the participating hiring managers, 77 percent feel their workload has increased in the last year, and 72 percent feel their staff is working harder. These results reflect nationwide surveys that show 60 to 70 percent of employees are planning to seek alternate employment. Coupled with the need for additional resources to cover anticipated growth and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, the next year will pose challenges for employers looking to attract and retain talent.

“The new accounting legislation has compelled companies to pull their audit function inside,” said General Manager Andrea Jennings for Lucas Group’s Accounting and Finance division. “Companies are also seeking candidates to strengthen their S. E.C. departments and fill technical accounting positions. Our division has seen a 96 percent increase in revenue in the past year, which means more positions are opening and creating a greater demand for qualified candidates.”

“We are finding the primary challenge in accounting and finance hiring stems from this increase in demand,” Kuchar said. “There have been fewer new graduates for the last several years, and the baby boomers are beginning to retire, which leaves a void to be filled. The opportunity for accounting and finance professionals is vast, as companies are expanding their departments and seeking more talent.”

The survey represents a broad cross section of industries, including banking/finance, consulting, distribution, healthcare, high tech software, manufacturing, real estate and more. Overall company revenue varied; however, nearly 57 percent of participating companies collect more than $1 billion in revenue.
