Swisslog Survey Reveals “Vendor Reputation” as Most Important Purchasing Consideration for Hospital Decision-Makers

Swisslog Survey Reveals “Vendor Reputation” as Most Important Purchasing Consideration for Hospital Decision-Makers

Swisslog asked more than 500 hospital managers throughout North America to list the most important vendor attributes they consider before purchasing a materials transport system for their facility.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) March 10, 2010

Swisslog, a leading provider of automated materials transport and pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals, today announced that “vendor reputation” was the most important purchasing consideration for hospital decision-makers and influencers.

That was the finding of an informal multi-year survey in which Swisslog asked more than 500 hospital managers throughout North America to list the most important vendor attributes they consider before purchasing a materials transport system for their facility. The survey participants represented a cross-section of hospital decision-makers and influencers, including administrators, pharmacy directors, facilities managers, lab managers, and nursing supervisors.

Not surprisingly, doing business with a reputable provider topped the list, followed closely by product reliability. Vendor reputation was cited by 56 percent of the respondents as their most important consideration.

According to the Swisslog survey, the Top Eight purchasing considerations in order of importance were:

1. Vendor reputation
2. Product reliability
3. Ease-of-use
4. Ability to handle heavy work-load
5. Minimal disruption during installation
6. Return-on-investment
7. Customer support
8. Patient and staff safety

“The results of our survey illustrate the relationship between vendor reputation and the attributes a company must possess to earn a positive reputation,” said Charlie Kegley, president of Swisslog Healthcare Solutions. “We have never viewed vendor reputation as a stand-alone attribute upon which customers make buying decisions. Rather, we believe vendor reputation is the outcome of a company’s performance on the other seven attributes. In other words, a company cannot earn an outstanding reputation unless it excels in every other category. At Swisslog, our stellar reputation was hard-earned through decades of providing the very best materials transport systems and customer service & support in the healthcare industry.”

Swisslog Healthcare Solutions is the leading supplier of logistics automation solutions for healthcare facilities. Swisslog has installed automated materials transport and pharmacy automation systems in more than 3,000 hospitals and pharmacies around the world, including more than 2,000 in North America. The Coolest Gadget in This Year – Pumgo Fitness Scooter

“A New Way to Ride” and “Fit for Fun”

The Pumgo Scooter is a new human-powered vehicle. It was introduced to the world for the first time at the 2009 New York International Toy Fair. Many show attendees regarded Pumgo Scooter as the best new ride-on product at the show. Order Pumgo at www. pumgo. com with coupon code 68008 to save $50 and free shipping (total $80 saving).

The innovative Pumgo Scooter was invented by Dr. Yan, a Clemson graduate with two PhD degrees who noticed that people seemed bored during their indoor gym workouts. When he overheard a man complain that the stair-climber left him with "nowhere to go," Yan was struck with a flash of inspiration and the Pumgo Scooter was conceived. "I realized that people would enjoy working out more if they weren't staring at a blank wall," Yan says. "The motion of the stair-climber could be replicated on a pedal scooter in a way that would let people enjoy themselves while they burned calories and strengthened muscles."

Yan used his engineering and design skills to build a prototype of the Pumgo Scooter. It was an immediate hit with family and friends. The additional benefits of the Pumgo Scooter were quickly realized: its fun to ride provides a balanced workout and is ideal for getting around.

The Pumgo Scooter uses a unique and innovative pedal recovery and drive system that creates a smooth and comfortable ride as the rider pumps the pedals up and down, similar to a stationary stair-climber. Unlike seated human powered vehicles, the Pumgo Scooter uses a rider's full body weight to generate driving force, enabling larger children to fully participate in Pumgo riding.

From an engineering perspective, the Pumgo Scooter's simultaneous dual-pedal recovery system combined with its drive system is a true innovation in human powered vehicles. Other mobile products have tried to recreate the non-cycling, up-down motion similar to a stair-climber with limited practical results. Parallel crank shafts engage a pair of gears to produce the reciprocal pedal recovery while two chain wheels, similar to a bicycle, combine with four flywheels to form the drive system. Differentials in the two rear wheels allow for each to rotate at different speeds, facilitating smooth, safe turns. The end result is a natural, comfortable ride that is both fun and healthy. Since the pedals operate only in the 80-degree maximum output zone (rather than a full 360 degrees like cycling), the propulsion is extremely efficient with each "pump," producing the highest amount of forward thrust. Unlike seated human powered vehicles, the Pumgo Scooter uses a rider's full body weight to generate driving force for maximum output and more efficient exercise.

Dr. Batchelor, an Atlanta sports medicine doctor that specializes in the treatment of athletic injury, recently evaluated the Pumgo Scooter. Dr. Batchelor was impressed by the Pumgo Scooter’s ability to work the body’s core. He stated: "Riding the Pumgo simulates the feeling of being on a stair climber, skateboard, surfboard, and bicycle all at the same time. It also offers less weight-bearing impact than other exercises like running, which can be hard on joints. It’s a great cardiovascular workout, with a faster more condensed workout time than running or biking. Pedaling on the Pumgo Scooter offers an efficient exercise with an up-down motion. The Pumgo Scooter offers much more enjoyment than the stationary stair-climber or kick scooter. While your time on an indoor stair stepping machine brings little enjoyment, your time outside, in the fresh air, on the Pumgo Scooter will bring loads of enjoyment and a great workout.”

The Pumgo Scooter offers an enjoyable ride with all the benefits of a healthy exercise. Whether you are looking for fun, recreation, a sporting toy, transportation, or a fitness instrument, the Pumgo Scooter provides it all. It’s the coolest gadget for whole family. Its maximum load is 220 LBS.

Erchonia Announces Zerona Distribution in Hong Kong

Erchonia Announces Zerona Distribution in Hong Kong

Erchonia, the global leader in low level laser healthcare applications, today announces it is launching its revolutionary body shaping laser technology, the Zerona laser, in Hong Kong and Macao through Erchonia Hong Kong Ltd.

Mckinney, TX (PRWEB) June 14, 2010

Erchonia, the global leader in low level laser healthcare applications, today announces it is launching its revolutionary body shaping laser technology, the Zerona laser, in Hong Kong and Macao through Erchonia Hong Kong Ltd, a newly created, wholly-owned subsidiary of Full Comfort Technology Ltd. The sole distributor for Zerona in Hong Kong and Macao, Erchonia Hong Kong Ltd. will exclusively market and sell the Zerona body slimming device in this area.

“Hong Kong is ready for this revolutionary technology and we are delighted to help bring it here,” said Dr. Tat Chee Tam, president and CEO of Erchonia Hong Kong Ltd. “Zerona’s success in the U. S. and Canada makes us confident it will have a dramatic impact on both the medical and beauty industries.”

“Hong Kong and Macao are very exciting markets for us and this partnership with Erchonia Hong Kong Ltd. will no doubt be a fruitful one,” says Steve Shanks, president of Erchonia. “Furthermore, because Hong Kong is such a cultural trendsetter, we hope this relationship will continue to help us grow our distribution throughout Asia.”

In contrast to high-power, high-heat lasers that are used in various surgical procedures, Erchonia’s Zerona (www. myzerona. com) laser produces a low-level, or cold, output that has no thermal effect on the body's tissue. Instead, the non-invasive laser helps the body absorb fat by stimulating biological function. As fat congregates in interstitial spaces of cells for a certain amount of time, the Zerona laser stimulates the body to rid itself of that excess fat using the body’s normal processes.

For more information, please visit www. erchonia. com or www. fullcomfort. com. hk.

Studies Confirm Technology Implementation is Key to Reducing Medical Errors

Studies Confirm Technology Implementation is Key to Reducing Medical Errors

Pathology expert explains how investment in medical IT can help providers and labs bridge gaps

New Hyde Park, NY (PRWEB) April 28, 2005

More than five years ago, the Institute of Medicine found that nearly 100,000 people die each year as a result of medical errors. Today, studies are confirming that the implementation of “HIT” – Health Information Technology – is a key factor in the effort to reduce these errors. However, though momentum is building among larger medical institutions, many individual healthcare providers are evading the e-medicine call.

“Health Information Technology can do for the medical community what ATMs and online banking have done for the financial industry,” notes Dr. George Hollenberg, M. D., a leading NY-area pathologist and founding director of Acupath Laboratories. “Yet, many in the field are resistant, citing the costs of equipment, the ‘learning curve’ involved with implementation and training, and the confusion over which technologies in the seemingly-endless HIT market are right for them,” Dr. Hollenberg adds. There are concerns, too, based on several recent conflicting reports that suggest technology may have led to more errors in certain controlled studies.

But a significant body of evidence is accumulating that confirms the IT role in reducing errors. Dr. Hollenberg points to a review of hospital admissions published in the Annals of Internal Medicine this month, which found that more than half of the 151 patients in the review had at least one mistake in their admission charts involving medication. Of those, more than a third of the discrepancies found could have led to “moderate to severe discomfort or clinical deterioration.” What’s more, the American Academy of Family Physicians enrolled eight of its member practices in a study, which will be presented at the AAFP’s annual conference next month, and found more than 660 lab-related errors committed during the course of the research. Those errors, the study reports, resulted in 47 delays in care, 30 reports of emotional problems, 15 reports of physical problems, and four reports of financial problems for patients.

“The bad news is that medical errors persist, and that they have the potential to do harm to our patients,” Dr. Hollenberg says. “But the good news is that the Electronic Health Records systems needed to reduce these errors are available, and becoming more affordable and user-friendly. Health care providers are often surprised by the actual reduction in costs and improvement in productivity that come with the implementation of EHRs,” he adds.

At Acupath Laboratories, for example, Dr. Hollenberg has pioneered a patented Peel-Off Labeling System, which was shown in a clinical study to provide 100% transcription clarity and a 91% increase in efficiency for providers who use it instead of handwritten chart notes. In addition, Acupath utilizes a comprehensive electronic network that can store test results, facilitate error-free chart entry and updates, provide statistical analysis and output color-coded diagnostic reports.

“The advanced record-keeping technologies we use at Acupath actually enable us to spend more time on the actual practice of pathology, as well as on the interaction with others involved in a patient’s continuum of care,” Dr. Hollenberg explains. “We are known not only for our clear and correct results and reports, but also for our willingness and availability to consult at length with physicians on more challenging cases or difficult diagnoses. That’s hard to do if you’re expending so much time and effort on the hand-written practice of medicine today.”

About Dr. George Hollenberg

Dr. George Hollenberg, M. D. is an authority in the fields of pathology, clinical pathology and dermatopathology with expertise in the areas of dysplastic nevi, melanoma, prostate and gastrointestinal cancer. Board-certified in Pathology and Dermatopathology, Dr. Hollenberg is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, The American Society of Dermatopathology and the AMA. He has published articles on skin, prostate and gastrointestinal cancer, and is the Consultant in Dermatopathology to The North Shore University Hospital Center. As the founding director of Acupath Laboratories, Inc., Dr. Hollenberg supervises the analysis of tens of thousands of biopsies per year, using the latest cutting-edge technology in histology and immunocytochemistry, as well as the latest advances in computerized report preparation.

ShortMeds Aligned with World Health Organization Guidelines Regarding Short-Dated Drug Donations and Pharmaceutical Company Needs

ShortMeds Aligned with World Health Organization Guidelines Regarding Short-Dated Drug Donations and Pharmaceutical Company Needs

The WHO has established guidelines to prevent unsolicited, unwanted and unannounced drug dontations. One such guideline states that drug companies should not donate products with less than 12-months dating. ShortMeds provides a supplemental online sales channel to help companies unload products with less than 12-months dating.

(PRWEB) May 19, 2005

The World Health Organization (WHO) has established guidelines for donating drugs to countries in need. The twelve guidelines are listed below, but the one guideline that is the most problematic for pharmaceutical companies is as follows: “After arrival in the recipient country, all donated drugs should have a remaining shelf-life of at least one-year.” This guideline was established because of logistical problems in many recipient countries. There are limited possibilities for immediate distribution, and it may take as long as six to nine months before drugs reach dispensing sites.

As a consequence, pharmaceutical companies have to perform a careful balancing act when it comes to donating their drugs to countries in need. Most of their products have 24-month expiration periods, but most major wholesalers wonÂ’t buy products with less than 12-month expiration periods. Therefore, pharmaceutical companies need to sell their products within 12 months and donate or destroy the remaining short-dated inventory, if they canÂ’t sell it. Some companies try to sell this inventory to specific customers, but the financial incentives involved usually prevent their sales representatives from doing so. The quantities and prices needed to sell these products are simply to low. Some companies donÂ’t exactly comply with the WHO guidelines and donate products with less than one-year shelf-life remaining. They are influenced by the tax breaks they can realize through donations. Currently, they can write off 2 times the productÂ’s cost when they donate it. But this practice is simply not ethical. The WHO has completed several audits in recipient countries, and found that 65% of donated drugs were due to expire in less than a year from the date of donation.

Another option for pharmaceutical companies is to post their short-dated inventories with an online service that can reach hundreds of licensed pharmaceutical buyers with little effort or cost. One such service is ShortMeds (www. shortmeds. com). ShortMeds posts short-dated inventories on its site and immediately alerts over 250 buyers from healthcare distributors, chain drug stores, mail order companies, independent pharmacies, long-term care pharmacy providers, hospitals and federal facility providers. There is a small administration fee for posting products, but users report returns on investment of up to 2000%. This economical sales channel frees up the companyÂ’s sales force, so they can focus on higher priorities. Plus, it helps pharmaceutical companies maximize distribution without violating the WHO drug donation guidelines.

The WHO guidelines are listed below. They are meant to prevent unsolicited, unwanted and unannounced donations. For more information on these guidelines, visit www. who. int/en (http://www. who. int/en).

1. All drug donations should be based on an expressed need and be relevant to the disease pattern in the recipient country.

2. All donated drugs or their generic equivalents should be approved for use in the recipient country and appear on the national list of essential drugs, or, if a national list is not available, on the WHO Model List of Essential Drugs, unless specifically requested otherwise by the recipient.

3. The presentation, strength and formulation of donated drugs should, as much as possible, be similar to those commonly used in the recipient country.

4. All donated drugs should be obtained from a reliable source and comply with quality standards in both donor and recipient country. The WHO Certification Scheme on the Quality of Pharmaceutical Products Moving in International Commerce 51 should be used.

5. No drugs should be donated that have been issued to patients and then returned to a pharmacy or elsewhere, or were given to health professionals as free samples.

6. After arrival in the recipient country, all donated drugs should have a remaining shelf-life of at least one-year.

7. All drugs should be labeled in a language that is easily understood by health professionals in the recipient country. The label on each individual container should at least contain the generic name, batch number, dosage form, strength, name of manufacturer, quantity in the container, storage conditions and expiry date.

8. As much as possible, donated drugs should be presented in larger quantity units and hospital packs.

9. All drug donations should be packed in accordance with international shipping regulations, and be accompanied by a detailed packing list which specifies the contents of each numbered carton by generic name, dosage form, quantity, batch number, expiry date, volume, weight and any special storage conditions. The weight per carton should not exceed 50 kg. Drugs should not be mixed with other supplies in the same carton.

10. Recipients should be informed of all drug donations that are being considered, prepared or actually on their way.

11. In the recipient country, the declared value of a drug donation should be based upon the wholesale price of its generic equivalent in the recipient country, or, if such information is not available, on the wholesale world-market price for its generic equivalent.

12. Costs of international and local transport, warehousing, port clearance and appropriate storage and handling should be paid by the donor agency, unless specifically agreed otherwise with the recipient in advance.

SuperCharging DVD by Quantum-Touch Improves Your Alternative Medicine Practice

SuperCharging DVD by Quantum-Touch Improves Your Alternative Medicine Practice

SuperCharging DVD by Quantum-Touch Promises to Enhance Effectiveness of Practitioners of Energy Healing and Alternative Medicine

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) September 29, 2005

The long-awaited Quantum-Touch SuperCharging DVD, which will allow energy healing and alternative medicine practitioners to realize new levels of success in their healing practice, has now been released amidst rave reviews.

"We are thrilled to make this new DVD available to the public," exclaims Richard Gordon, Founder of Quantum-Touch and author of "Quantum-Touch, The Power to Heal," and "Your Healing Hands: The Polarity Experience." "The Supercharging technique will help people to be much more powerful in their healing work; the techniques will allow people to do more, sooner, faster, and with better results; it also helps them to move energy through their own system more effectively."

Quantum-Touch, a unique form of alternative healing, is easily learned by lay people; it has also been employed as a support in spiritual healing. Quantum-Touch's effectiveness has drawn enthusiastic endorsements from a wide range of health care professionals including physicians, chiropractors, massage therapists, and acupuncturists. It has been hailed as "a significant breakthrough," by Alternative Medicine magazine.

The addition of the Supercharging DVD video will enable Quantum-Touch to capitalize on the success of its previous video workshop, which is now available in 25-30 countries and provides instruction for as many as 10,000 people. Now with the addition of the Supercharging DVD, people will be able to access far greater results with their healing work in a fraction of the time.

The Supercharging DVD workshop, a compilation of material from live workshops conducted by Alain Herriott, contains both class material as well as "hands-on healing" practice sessions. Having been involved in the healing arts and massage for over 30 years, Alain skillfully combines his gift of seeing energy and its movements in the human body with a passionate teaching style that can effectively guide others' awareness of this energy movement in their own body, thus initiating rapid advances in learning.

The Supercharging workshop has achieved high praise from practitioners and students all over the world. "Incredibly powerful and valuable," "truly transformational on all levels of the being," "extremely easy, tender and knowledgeable," "takes Quantum-Touch to new levels and dimensions of effectiveness," and "caring, respectful, with lots of good, powerful information" are just a few of the comments people have made about the Supercharging workshops.

The Supercharging DVD Set contains 5 DVDs with a running time of nearly 8 hours. Students will greatly improve the quality of their work virtually as much as if they attended an actual workshop.

With the release of the DVD supercharging workshop, Quantum-Touch takes a bold step in realizing its dream of empowering more and more people worldwide to be powerful healers. "As wonderful as Quantum-Touch has been, I've always believed we could be extraordinarily more powerful and far more effective in our sessions," comments Richard Gordon. "I've always believed that everyone could learn to be effective when treating any kind of condition, but I didn't know how to do it or how to teach it. I've expected and waited decades for a significant breakthrough. And now it's hereÂ…"

Air Purifiers Direct 2U Releases List of Their Top Selling Air Purifiers for 1st Quarter of 2008

Air Purifiers Direct 2U Releases List of Their Top Selling Air Purifiers for 1st Quarter of 2008

Bill Unyi, founder of AirPurifiersDirect2U. com, provides information on their website's Top Selling Air Purifiers for the 1st Quarter of 2008.

Plainfield, IL (PRWEB) April 18, 2008

Business just continues to get better and better for the small internet retailer, AirPurifiersDirect2U. com (http://www. airpurifiersdirect2u. com). Their 2008 1st Quarter sales are up 66% over the same time last year and their total sales continue to grow each month. "We continue to add the right advertising avenues or tweak existing ones each month and those decisions continue to pay off for us in increased sales month-over-month and year-over-year," states AirPurifiersDirect2U. com owner Bill Unyi.

Unyi states, "A big part of our growth this year is definitely attributed to not forgetting about the basics when it comes to dealing with customers." He adds, "If you offer the customer an informative website to help them make their buying decisions a little easier and then follow through on your promises to them when they purchase from your website, you are always going to be successful." "Answering customer questions and keeping customers up to date when issues arise with their purchase goes a long ways when purchasing on the internet these days," Unyi adds. "It may not seem like a big deal to some, but going that extra mile for the customer pays off in the long run. I believe that customers expect the worst for the most part when ordering online and are elated when an online retailer shows they care by answering their phone, confidently answering customer questions, and by keeping them in the loop and going the extra mile when issues arise." "If you can consistently provide your customers with this type of service, you're going to be successful as an online retailer," Unyi summarizes.

Customer satisfaction was only one part of their continued success story. Great products from the top manufacturers in the industry of air purifiers, air cleaners, and air sterilizers also helps. Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute Announces Several Surgical "Firsts"

Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute Announces Several Surgical "Firsts"

Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute recently performed several "firsts" in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. These include the first single-port trans-umbilical live-donor nephrectomies; the first robotic single-port surgery for pyeloplasty and radical prostatectomy; and the first single-port transvesical simple prostatectomy for symptomatic large-volume benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH).

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) June 16, 2008

Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute (http://my. clevelandclinic. org/urology/default. aspx? utm_campaign=urology-firsts&utm_medium=release&utm_source=fathom-pr&utm_content=rls1&WT. mc_id=5000) shared news of their success performing several surgical "firsts" at last month's American Urological Association (AUA) annual meeting in Orlando, Fla. Cleveland Clinic's minimally invasive urology team recently performed a series of world "firsts" in the emerging field of single-port laparoscopy, in which surgeries are performed entirely through a single, tiny incision. The team has even mastered virtually scar-free single-port laparoscopic surgery by concealing the incision within the belly button (umbilicus).

Single-port surgeries and trans-umbilical surgeries are major advances over traditional laparoscopic procedures that entail making three to six small "key-hole" incisions in the abdomen to perform major operations.

Inderbir S. Gill, M. D., Professor & Chairman, Department of Urology and Director of the Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery Center (http://my. clevelandclinic. org/services/robotic_laparoscopic_surgery/urology_overview. aspx? utm_campaign=urology-firsts&utm_medium=release&utm_source=fathom-pr&utm_content=rls1&WT. mc_id=5000), kidney donors for kidney transplantation. In this new approach, all aspects of kidney harvesting are completed through the navel, including removal. Instead of a visible six-inch external scar and a four to six week recovery period, this minimally invasive procedure offers patients a two-week recovery period and a scar that is almost completely hidden in the belly button.

"Performing scar-free kidney removal in a healthy donor is a significant step forward by decreasing the pain and scarring associated with major kidney surgery," said Dr. Gill, who recently performed the first single-port laparoscopic partial nephrectomies in the world in five kidney cancer patients as well.

Jihad Kaouk, M. D., Director of Robotic Urology, recently performed the first two robotic single-port surgeries for renal pelvis reconstruction/revision (pyeloplasty) and surgical removal of all or part of the prostate gland (radical prostatectomy), showing promise that surgeons looking to learn and apply these highly technical procedures can now be assisted by robots.

"For single-port surgery to advance to the next level, use of robotics is going to be necessary," said Dr. Kaouk. "This demonstration of the technical feasibility of using robotics opens the door for further advances. However, considerable additional technological advances are necessary to increase the widespread usage of robotics in single-port laparoscopy." Dr. Kaouk has also performed several other world-first single-port trans-umbilical surgeries including radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy (removal of the bladder), renal tumor cryoablation (using cold energy to kill tumor tissue in the kidney), vaginal prolapse surgery (repair of the vaginal canal), and varicoclectomy (surgical correction of enlarged veins in the scrotum) in children.

Mihir Desai, M. D., Director of Endourology and Stone Disease, recently performed the first single-port transvesical simple prostatectomy for symptomatic large-volume benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) in three patients. For the large-volume BPH, transurethral surgery removes approximately 30 percent of the gland. This new single-port approach removes approximately 70 percent of the obstructive BPH tissue, mirroring open surgery, but only requires a single, small incision directly into the bladder. Because of the intra-vesical nature of this novel procedure, recovery is quicker, leading to the possibility of it being performed as an outpatient procedure in the future.

"This truly represents development of a novel technique for patients with significant symptoms from prostate enlargement," said Dr. Desai. "Perhaps more importantly, we have introduced the concept of single-port intraluminal surgery within a hollow organ, which is likely to have a robust application in other fields of surgery as well." Dr. Desai has also performed several other world-first single-port trans-umbilical surgeries, including bilateral pyeloplasty (uretero-pelvic junction repair), ureteroneocystostromy, and ileal ureter replacement (for ureteral obstruction).

Other members of the surgical team on these innovations included Drs. Khaled Fareed, Rene Sotelo, Monish Aron, David Canes, Courtenay Moore, Jim Ulchaker, Raymond Rackley, Jeffrey Palmer and Georges-Pascal Haber.

The members of the institute (http://my. clevelandclinic. org/urology/doctors. aspx? type=advanced&dept=Glickman+Urological+and+Kidney+Institute? utm_campaign=urology-firsts&utm_medium=release&utm_source=fathom-pr&utm_content=rls1&WT. mc_id=5000) plan to share its future findings in conferences and continuing medical education forums.

(PRWEB) January 5, 2003

Roswell, GA, January 5, 2002: In-Home Tutors of Atlanta today announces the debut of Study Smarter!, a new study skills workshop for fifth and sixth grade children, in January, 2003. The five-week, five-session program will cover key study skills, including good homework habits, test-taking strategies, note-taking, organization and research skills. Parents may register now for workshops in Roswell, Dunwoody, Marietta and Smyrna.

“We frequently receive calls from parents who are looking for a math or reading tutor for their child but then comment that the real problem is that their child lacks study skills and cannot stay organized,” explains Dennis Freeman, director of In-Home Tutors of Atlanta. “We have therefore developed a program that will provide practical skills to help the child manage homework assignments more effectively and achieve higher grades by improving classroom and test-taking skills. Children who have internalized healthy homework habits will typically complete their homework more quickly with less prodding from their parent.”

The workshop is appropriate for all middle-schoolers but is especially suited for children making the transition from the nurturing environment of elementary school to middle school, where students move between several teachers over the course of the school day and are expected to take more responsibility for tracking school work.

Study Smarter! has been developed for In-Home Tutors of Atlanta by a Fulton County middle school teacher, Ms. Amanda Crain, who has drawn from several respected study skills resources, including Helping Kids Get Organized, by Robyn Freedman Spizman and Marianne Daniels Garber, Ph. D. A copy of this book will be provided to each student as part of the course fee.

L. A. Comedy Club of Las Vegas Opens Second Location at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Wasted Space Tonight

L. A. Comedy Club of Las Vegas Opens Second Location at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Wasted Space Tonight

Comedian Jimmy Schubert of HBO’s “Entourage” and KVON from MTV’s “Disaster Date” to perform at Vegas Club’s inaugural show

Las Vegas (PRWEB) June 20, 2010

The L. A. Comedy Club of Las Vegas (http://www. lacomedyclub. com/ (http://www. lacomedyclub. com/)) will open its second location at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino tonight. The comedy club will operate one show nightly every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Wasted Space, an intimate rock club known for bringing authentic high-end rock ‘n’ roll culture to Vegas. Opening performances will include comedian Jimmy Schubert (http://jimmyshubert. com/ (http://jimmyshubert. com/)), who has appeared on HBO’s “Entourage” and on Comedy Central, and KVON (http://www. myspace. com/kvoncomedy (http://www. myspace. com/kvoncomedy)), who has appeared on MTV’s “Disaster Date.”

“We wanted to bring in a resident comedy act for guests to enjoy every night and the L. A. Comedy Club was the perfect partner,” said Paul Davis, Vice President of Entertainment, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas (http://www. hardrockhotel. com/ (http://www. hardrockhotel. com/)). “They are known for playing host to edgy and fresh comedians, which is the same characteristics we look for in music performers to book at Wasted Space. Rock ‘n’ roll and comedy have always gone hand and hand with similar audiences; we hope this will give Vegas the perfect blend of the two.”

Opening at Hard Rock marks a milestone and the realization of a dream for club owner and founder, Joaquin Trujillo.

“Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was a natural choice for our new location. They have always been a trendsetter in Las Vegas, and we’ve believed that the L. A. Comedy Club and Hard Rock were meant for each other. I, personally, am committed to bringing the best comedy talent to fit the brand integrity of both Wasted Space and Hard Rock Hotel. Other properties and clubs are looking for ’old Vegas’ or ‘vintage,’ we are always looking forward to what is next and relevant in comedy. One example is over a year ago Aziz Ansari (http://azizisbored. tumblr. com/ (http://azizisbored. tumblr. com/)) played our club, and he hadn’t played any other in Las Vegas at the time. Just a few weeks ago, he hosted the MTV awards. Now he would sell out The Joint.”

“Comedians are often rock stars who just happen to be better at telling jokes than singing,” said Matt Chavez, co-founder and head of talent booking for the L. A. Comedy Club of Las Vegas. “Several of our comedians have already told us how excited they are for the opportunity to perform at this Las Vegas landmark.”

“What comedian doesn’t want to tell his friends that he just played at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas,” said Schubert. “The Hard Rock is not just a hotel and casino, it’s iconic and the epicenter of cool. Not to mention that just one walk by the pool gives you whip lash like one of Rosie O’Donnell’s refrigerator magnets.”

Tickets for the first show are available for $25 for general admission or $40 for VIP line and are available at Ticketmaster locations or online at Ticketmaster. com. Doors open at 7 p. m. and the show begins at 8 p. m.

Nashville Author Will Discuss Personal Spiritual Freedom on Independence Day

Nashville Author Will Discuss Personal Spiritual Freedom on Independence Day

Developing inner awareness and personal guidance are on the agenda when Anne Richardson Williams guests on the Fourth of July segment of the "Health At Every Size" show on Radio Free Nashville.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) June 29, 2005

If Anne Richardson Williams were to offer a prayer on Independence Day, she might focus on personal spiritual freedom. Specifically, that everyone feel “the true freedom to love ourselves as we would want to be loved, accept ourselves as we would want to be accepted, forgive ourselves as we would want to be forgiven.”

The Nashville artist and author (“Unconventional Means,” June 2005, Pearlsong Press) will discuss such freedom on Monday’s “Health At Every Size” show on Radio Free Nashville. The half-hour show will air at 10:30 a. m. on the low-power fm community radio station WRFN 98.9 in Pasquo, Tenn. (a suburb of Nashville). The show is also streamed live over the Internet at www. radiofreenashville. org.

“Sounds so trite, but it’s so hard to do,” Williams says of the process of freeing oneself from shame, fear, and self-criticism that can cripple well-being and interfere with personal connections to the divine. “Imagine what it would be like to temper ourselves in a loving spiritual flame that pure.”

The “Health At Every Size” show, hosted by clinical and consulting psychologist Peggy Elam, Ph. D., presents a holistic, non-weight-loss approach to health and well-being that celebrates natural diversity in body size. During the Fourth of July show, Dr. Elam will discuss with Williams ways listeners can increase awareness and appreciation of what Dr. Elam calls “your really big self -- the you that’s bigger than the physical.”

Williams has walked her talk, as her recently published memoir attests. As a teenager shattered by family tragedy, she eventually found solace in Nevil Shute’s novel, “A Town Like Alice.” His heroine’s passage through the tribulations of war to find love and a new home modeled after the town of Alice Springs, Australia, gave teenage Anne hope that “there is something on the other side of the terrible things” for her, too.

While reading a book about AustraliaÂ’s Aboriginal people decades later, a photograph of Aboriginal elder Lorraine Mafi-Williams mesmerized middle-aged Anne. She felt an immediate kinship, even though others found it ridiculous that an upper-middle-class Southern white woman and an Aboriginal elder could share more than a common last name.

When Williams finally set out for Australia, she added to her desire to see Alice Springs the dream of also meeting Lorraine. But with no address, no phone number, no conventional way to get in touch with an Aboriginal woman, Williams had to rely on unconventional means –- dreams, visions, meditation and intuition –- to guide her halfway across the world to find the woman whose ancient stories would help heal her.

Information on the show and on the “Health At Every Size” approach to well-being can be found at www. healthateverysize. info. “Unconventional Means” is available through online and offline bookstores and the Pearlsong Press Web site (www. pearlsong. com).

Travel Leaders offer 'Insider's' Tips for International Journeys

Travel Leaders offer 'Insider's' Tips for International Journeys

Travel Leaders Encourage Consumers to Travel like a Pro

Minneapolis, MN (Vocus) July 15, 2009

Ever wonder what practices travel experts routinely follow themselves to ensure smooth travels internationally? Wonder no more. Today, Travel Leaders (http://www. travelleaders. com/travelleaders/index. htm) from throughout the United States are offering their "Insider's" tips to better prepare travelers in advance of their own journeys abroad. Today's news release is the first in a series of "Insider's" tips on a wide array of topics of expertise, including a variety of international travel issues.

"When we asked Travel Leaders across the country for their best 'insider' advice on international travel, the proverbial floodgates opened so much so that we had to winnow them down to individual components of a consumer's trip," explained Roger E. Block, CTC, President of Travel Leaders Franchise Group.

Block indicated that Travel Leaders first "Insider's" tips provided on prepping before international travel can be neatly encapsulated into three primary areas, including: Booking Your Travel, Musts for Packing, Preparing to Leave

Booking Your Travel
Valid Passports - When booking your travel, make sure your passport isn't close to expiring. While it may seem obvious that each traveler will need to have a valid passport in hand to travel abroad, there are nuances on which Travel Leaders urge extra caution because many countries require up to six months left on passports after completion of trips. Andrea Callahan (Travel Leaders, Paoli, PA) said this is particularly true for travelers requiring visas, "We remind travelers who need a visa that they must have at a minimum six months left on the validity of the passport after the planned return date." Travel Leaders can assist travelers who require expedited passport and visa services. Timing Your Flight Right - What time should you schedule your flights? The earlier in the day, the better, before air traffic delays grow exponentially. "If you have the opportunity, do not take the last flight of the day," warns Robbert J. van Bloemendaal, CTC (Travel Leaders, Rowlett, TX). "By taking an earlier flight, you may have an option for the later flight just in case there is a problem or you get bumped. This advice is also good for domestic flights." Protecting Your Investment - "Travel insurance isn't a need, it is a necessity," advises Mike Weingart (Travel Leaders, Houston, TX). Vicky Voll (Travel Leaders, Glendale, CA) agrees, adding, "Travel Insurance is highly recommended. Prior to departing the U. S., review your personal insurance policy. Many health insurance programs do not include coverage for medical expenses incurred in a foreign country. Consider purchasing travel insurance that includes trip cancellation, medical coverage, travel delay, baggage insurance and emergency evacuation coverage." Trip cancellation and all forms of travel insurance are available through Travel Leaders.

Musts for Packing
While the age old conundrum of what to pack should more often be met head-on with what not to pack, Travel Leaders experts provide advice on what should be included in anyone's packing regiment.
Luggage Limitations - "A lot of people don't realize when they travel throughout Europe, the weight limit on luggage is lower than here in the United States," cautions Lucy Lyons (Travel Leaders, Jacksonville, NC). "Sometimes the cost is extremely high, as they charge around €8.00 (euros) or £6.00 (British pounds) per kilo (or 2.2 pounds)." Cross-Packing - "If traveling with another person, you may want to put a couple of changes of clothes in each other's checked bag in case one of your checked bags is misplaced or lost by the airlines," recommends Sue Tindell, CTC (Travel Leaders, Rice Lake, WI). Curious Case of the Washcloth - "European hotels don't always provide washcloths, so for travelers who can't do without, they should bring their own," advises Lyons. Bee Vermeersch (Travel Leaders, Marietta, GA) adds, "Take a washcloth and a zip-top bag to carry it when damp - they are often not provided by hotels outside of North America." Extra Comfort - "Bring little Kleenex packs that easily fit in your fanny pack to use as toilet paper," advises Lori Dreisbach (Travel Leaders, Irvine, CA). Valuables - It's always advisable to keep anything of value like jewelry, as well as medicines, in your carry-on luggage. Tindell adds, "Be sure cameras and film are placed in your carry-on when flying."

Preparing to Leave
Before you leave, a few calls are in order to ensure you have complete and uninterrupted access to the ATM and credit cards you're carrying with you. There's also nothing worse than losing your wallet or purse with all your important papers, credit cards and ATM cards. Travel Leaders offer the preventative measures they take in advance of leaving.
Advance Notice - "Notify your bank and major credit card companies that you will be leaving the country so they do not put a stop on your ATM or credit cards because of 'unusual' activity," Tindell recommends. Vermeersch agrees, adding, "Verify with your bank that your ATM card will work when you travel abroad." Making Copies - "Make a copy of your passport and place that copy in your suitcase or scan your passport and e-mail the attachment to your own e-mail account," Tindell advises. "If you lose your passport, you can go to an Internet café, open your e-mail and print the copy of your passport. Also, scan both sides of your credit card and e-mail the attachment to your own e-mail account just like you did for your passport." Pam Edwartoski (Travel Leaders, Troy, MI) agrees, adding, "Everyone has access to e-mail in today's world, and it will allow you access to anywhere you go! I also carry a copy."

Sasz will be responsible for leading business development of MMI's "next generation" National Preferred Provider Network, which offers solutions with the breadth and depth necessary to meet the needs of healthcare providers and help them remain financially viable.

MMI, Inc. is a service organization providing risk management and integrated healthcare consultancy spanning all size medical groups and independent associations. The company delivers products and services designed to reduce cost, increase revenue, and help their member physicians return to their core strength and passion - the practice of medicine. MMI's flagship product reduces healthcare premiums for physicians and their staffs by 30 to 50 percent.

"We are very pleased to have Ethan's industry expertise and sales leadership," commented Michael Kaminaka, President and CEO of MMI. We created the Physicians Health Association out of the necessity to meet the emerging needs and concerns of physicians seeking alternative methods for preserving the integrity of the practice of medicine."

About MMI, Inc.
MMI is an advocate for restructuring healthcare. Practice conditions are increasingly difficult for physicians. MMI has created the "next generation," National Preferred Provider Network, offering solutions with the breadth and depth necessary to meet the needs of healthcare providers and help them remain financially viable. American College of Cardiology Foundation and Larry King Cardiac Foundation To Hold Press Conference in New Orleans

American College of Cardiology Foundation and Larry King Cardiac Foundation To Hold Press Conference in New Orleans

Larry King and ACCF's Doug Zipes Press conference: at The Loews Hotel in New Orleans on Sunday, March 25th at 10:30am Addressing Cardiac Care Crisis in America during the Annual College of Cardiology's 56th Annual Scientific Session Annual Conference

Fairfield, CT (PRWEB) March 12, 2007

Larry King, who was invited by the ACCF to announce the partnership of The Larry King Cardiac Foundation and The American College of Cardiology Foundation, will accept his selection as Honorary Chair for the ACCF's Campaign for the Future. King will join Douglas Zipes, M. D., M. A.C. C., Chair of the ACCF's Campaign, to discuss the details of the campaign efforts.

The press conference coincides with The College's 56th Annual Scientific Session, the leading scientific meeting that brings together nearly 30,000 attendees from around the world to share best practices and innovations in cardiovascular science and education. This year's conference takes place in New Orleans from March 24-27.

Stats:

A current trend is leading to a major cardiac care crisis in the U. S. Due to the rising number of heart disease patients and inadequate funding of cardiovascular training slots, the problem is escalating dramatically. According to ACC research, if nothing is done to stop the trend, by 2020, the ratio could be only five cardiologists per every 100,000 patients.

Mr. King, host of CNN's Larry King Live, established the Larry King Cardiac Foundation in 1988 after undergoing successful quintuple bypass heart surgery. The LKCF provides funding and access to life-saving treatment for individuals who would otherwise be unable to receive the care they need. Larry King is one of the 60 million+ people in the U. S. who suffer from heart disease.

The goal of The Campaign for the Future is to raise funds that will be applied to ensuring an adequate workforce of cardiac care professionals, meeting the growing need for professional education, and developing nationwide initiatives related to quality care and healthy lifestyle choices. The "Heart of the Matter" Campaign for the Future Luncheon with Larry King following the press conference is sponsored by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Daiichi-Sankyo, Inc., King Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Merck & Co., and Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc.

About American College of Cardiology Foundation:

The American College of Cardiology Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advocacy of quality cardiovascular care through education, research promotion, development and the application of standards and guidelines. The Foundation, which also aims to influence health care policy, is aligned with the mission and goals of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), a 34,000-member nonprofit medical society that provides professional education and operates national registries for the measurement and improvement of quality care. For more information, visit www. acc. org

About The Larry King Cardiac Foundation:

The Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF) was established in 1988 to provide funding for life-saving treatment for individuals who, due to limited means or no insurance, would otherwise be unable to receive the treatment and care they so desperately need. The Foundation works in conjunction with hospitals throughout the nation to ensure that such patients receive proper medical attention. Doctors performing these surgeries do so at no charge. Hospitals are compensated only for the materials used. Hearts are repaired. Families are given another chance. Lives are saved. The LKCF is a non-profit organization funded from the proceeds of Mr. King's books, speaking engagements, and from entertainment galas conducted in New York City, Washington D. C. and Los Angeles.
