You Have a Bad Attitude--How One Turn in Attitude Can Make the Difference in Your Success, Just Pivot
Did you know that your attitude is the number one determining factor to your success?

Your attitude is the number one determining factor to your success. You can trace just about everything you achieve or don’t achieve back to your attitude, says Dr. Alan R. Zimmerman in his new book, Pivot.
“Your attitude, even more than your aptitude, determines your altitude.” In Pivot, Zimmerman cites a study by Dr. Martin Seligman who discovered attitude is a better predictor of success than I. Q., education, grade point average or almost any other factor. He found that people with positive attitudes stay healthier, have better relationships, and go further in their careers.
"Everyone knows they’re supposed to have a positive attitude. That’s old news. The problem is most people don’t know how to get and keep a positive attitude. I wrote " PIVOT" to provide a roadmap for people –to tell them exactly what they had to do to get rid of a negative attitude and to have a positive one," said Zimmerman.
Your attitude is the key to success and happiness. It's not only important, it’s absolutely critical, says Zimmerman.
"Attitude is the number one factor in success. With the right attitude, you can accomplish amazing kinds of things. Just look at the Olympics. There are hundreds of gold medalists who overcame tremendous difficulties…but went on to win…because they had the right attitude. By the same token, there are millions of talented people who never achieve much of anything because they have a negative attitude holding them back," he said.
When it comes to happiness, attitude is the number one contributing factor. A person simply cannot be happy if he/she is saddled with a negative attitude.
There are three main components in adopting a positive attitude. First, you must know how vitally important a positive attitude is. It’s not just a sweet, Pollyannaish little concept that is nice to have. It’s a foundational requirement for all future success and happiness.
Second, you must know how to get rid of the negativity that may be residing in your mind and holding you back.
And third, you must know what steps to take and which skills to practice so you develop a positive attitude that never lets you down.
What can I do to stop my negative attitudes?
First of all, recognize the fact that they are hurting you. Your negative attitudes literally damage your health, your motivation, your relationships, and just about everything else.
Second, when you find yourself thinking negatively, immediately stop yourself. Literally, tell your mind to “STOP IT.” And with practice, your mind will obey your command.
Zimmerman says that he has spent over 30 years researching how to have a successful life or a life of excellence. He says there are six factors: Self-Esteem, Purpose, Goals, Attitude, Risk, and Balance. All the factors can be mastered, and in fact, that is a major focus in my two-day seminar called “The Journey to the Extraordinary.”
How do I start increasing my odds of a successful future? Start working on your self-esteem. One of the basic principles in psychology says you perform exactly as you see yourself. When you see yourself in a more positive light, when you polish your self-image, when you increase your self-confidence, your success increases as well. That’s why I devoted an entire chapter to Self-Esteem in PIVOT.
In Pivot, Dr. Zimmerman introduces you to a simple nine-step life changing plan.
This plan will lead you to:
Develop a consistent positive attitude Choose your mental strategy Curb any negativity blocking your success Improve your confidence Build Stronger Relationship Experience an instant boost in enthusiasm Make every day a successful day Stop Worrying Overcome Failure
“Most people don’t know what a “positive mental attitude” really is, or how to create and maintain it-no matter what is going on around them,” says Zimmerman. Pivot is your guide to gaining and maintaining this life changing transformation.
Pivot explains in a step-by-step process how to become “bulletproof “at home and on the job in maintaining your positive mental attitude. Becoming “bulletproof” is actually pretty easy-when you make a few simple turns in your life.
Whether you are struggling with your goals, unmotivated at work, burnt out on bad news or just want to be more energetic and effective, a simple turn in attitude can make all the difference. Pivot can show you how.
