Discovery-Selenium Supplementation May Reduce Cancer Risk

Discovery-Selenium Supplementation May Reduce Cancer Risk

Selenium supplementation seems to protect against other cancers as well. According to the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, research suggests that selenium can also protect humans against cancer of the lung, ovaries, breast, colon, liver, cervix, skin, stomach and uterus. When sufficient selenium levels are achieved, the risk of getting cancer is half that of a person who is selenium deficient.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) January 18, 2004

One in every four deaths in this country is caused by cancer. ThatÂ’s 1,500 people each day. Many of these cancers are caused by our own bad behaviors - tobacco and alcohol use, lack of exercise, and poor diet - which has led researchers to investigate the ability of nutritional supplements to reduce cancer risk.

For example, there's now convincing evidence that selenium (an essential mineral found in various foods such as Brazil nuts and mushrooms) when taken daily as a supplement can significantly reduce the risk of cancer. In one clinical study, the risk of prostate cancer was reduced 63% in men supplementing with selenium compared to a placebo group. This result has created tremendous interest in the medical community and the National Cancer Institute has funded a much larger study called SELECT (Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial) that will enroll 32,000 male subjects to better determine seleniumÂ’s ability to prevent cancer. For more information about SELECT and the selenium-prostate cancer link, visit www. crab. org/select/ (http://www. crab. org/select/) and www. pcacoalition. com.

Selenium supplementation seems to protect against other cancers as well. When sufficient selenium levels are achieved, the risk of getting cancer is half that of a person who is selenium deficient.

With the exception of Brazil nuts, there are few good food sources of selenium, so supplementation may be the best way to attain selenium’s protective benefits. One company expected to gain substantially from this surge in selenium interest is Eidon Inc., a San Diego company that has developed a selenium supplement in liquid form which the company says is flavorless and odorless, and can be taken alone or mixed with a favorite drink. Richard Wagner, Eidon’s president, said “We’ve seen so much interest in our selenium supplements recently, that we’ve had to seek out additional suppliers to make sure we can keep up with expected demand”.

As more people become aware of the research demonstrating seleniumÂ’s health benefits, there can be no doubt that Mr. WagnerÂ’s concern is real.

Eidon products are available at select health food stores, online at www. eidon. com, or direct at 800-700-1169.

If ‘The Brothers Grimm’ Can Play the Heroes, Why Can’t One Grimm Play the Devil?

If ‘The Brothers Grimm’ Can Play the Heroes, Why Can’t One Grimm Play the Devil?

Miramax’s “The Brothers Grimm” is not the only macabre fairytale retelling that casts a Grimm into the world of his fairytales. Bleeding Through Kingdoms: Cinderella's Rebellion offers Grimm as the villian in this new novel by screenwriter Riley LaShea.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) July 29, 2005 -

– Miramax’s “The Brothers Grimm” is not the only macabre fairytale retelling that casts a Grimm into the world of his fairytales. Bleeding Through Kingdoms: Cinderella’s Rebellion, the debut novel by 25-year-old indie writer Riley LaShea, will heave you out of the real world and into the realm of fairy tales in less than two pages, and hold you spell-bound there until the final battle in the Gulf of Broken Dreams.

In her escape from the persistent Prince Charming, Cinderella has altered her story and upset the balance of the Black Forest and its other fairytale inhabitants. The next thing she knows she is crossing into kingdoms she was never meant to discover, and encountering individuals whose existence she was never supposed to know about, including Rapunzel, Hansel & Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (with beanstalk) and Snow White and the dwarves: Big Papa, Chauncy, Mo, Sponk, Tater, Esteban, and Baby G. At first it all seems a fantastic adventure, but it doesnÂ’t take long to realize that CinderellaÂ’s joyful abandon is not sitting well with everyone.

Snow WhiteÂ’s stepmother, the beautiful but cruel Queen Ino, now wants all three of the girls dead, but she is only a servant to the master plan. Something deeper, darker, and much more powerful is working beneath the surface, toiling to put everything back the way it was intended. As the inhabitants of the Black Forest begin to mysteriously disappear, it will take all of the inhabitants of the Black Forest, both decent and depraved, to seize control of their land and their destinies.

Tired of seeing weak “heroines” in the so-called ‘happily ever after,’ Riley LaShea borrowed some favorite characters, added a few of her own, and crafted a modern take on tradition, a genuine fairy tale about courage, friendship, freedom, and self-worth, with healthy doses of humor, mayhem, and, of course, magic. With deliciously wicked twists and ultimate girl power, revolution has never been this enticing.

Certified Financial Planners Now Get Continuing Education Credit for CFEBS Course

Certified Financial Planners Now Get Continuing Education Credit for CFEBS Course

Course helping CFPs reach federal employees is accepted by CFP Board for continuing education credits.

(PRWEB) August 3, 2005 -

The Board of Certified Financial Planners (CFP) has recently accepted the Certified Federal Employee Benefits Specialist (CFEBS) course for continuing education credit.

There are more than 48,000 CFP certificants in the United States today, and each certificant must complete at least 30 hours of continuing education every two years, according to the CFP website.

CFP certificants can receive 14 continuing education credits for the "live" two-day CFEBS seminar, or 5 credits for the self-study CFEBS course.

"We are pleased to be a continuing education sponsor for the CFP board," stated Judy Snow, founder of the Federal Employee Benefits Specialist, Inc. (http://www. FEBSI. com (http://www. FEBSI. com)). “Federal employee benefits programs are very complicated. Only the best trained financial planners are able to service this market,” Snow continued.

The CFEBS program equips financial planners, insurance agents, accountants, investment advisors, stock brokers, tax preparers, and other professionals with a thorough understanding of federal employee benefits and associated retirement planning.

"Achieving CFEBS certification helps Certified Financial Planners to learn the ins and outs of these benefits programs and to reach federal employees who are in need of quality financial planning services," Snow explained. Snow is a 20-year veteran financial and estate planner, who has more than 10 years experience in assisting federal employees.

Snow says the federal and postal employee market – consisting of more than. 2.5 million workers – is often overlooked by the financial planning community. U. S. federal government employment statistics indicate that approximately 50% of federal workers will be eligible to retire in the next five years.

“The opportunity in this market for Certified Financial Planners is a goldmine. Thousands of federal employees have $500,000 or more invested in a 401(k)-like savings plan. These are funds that can be rolled over into other investment options at retirement,” Snow states. Snow also points out that in addition to investment options, federal employees face many important decisions regarding health, life and long-term care insurance options, as well as special tax considerations.

CFEBS training courses – offered by independent study or conducted on-site at financial service firms -- provide professionals with numerous helpful training materials. The materials include resources to help the professional identify the retirement needs of federal employees, as well as strategies on the best ways to reach potential clients in this market.

Snow states that hundreds of financial professionals now hold the CFEBS certification or are enrolled in the course, which was first offered in 2003.

Information on the CFEBS program can be found at http://www. FEBSI. com (http://www. FEBSI. com) or by calling FEBSI at 1-800-696-3505.

Recent Studies Indicate Hormone Replacement Therapy is Beneficial

Recent Studies Indicate Hormone Replacement Therapy is Beneficial

The Women's Specialty Health Centers have practiced individualized hormone replacement therapy for years with patients who have encountered the unpleasant and frequently debilitating effects of menopause and remains proud to continue to provide this caring and beneficial treatment which has been affirmed as beneficial in recent new studies.

Indianapolis, Indiana (PRWEB) July 27, 2007

The Wall Street Journal recently reported how the National Institute of Health (NIH) had misread the data from a previous hormone replacement therapy (HRT) study. The federal government had halted the study in 2002 stating that women on HRT for menopause had a 29% increased risk of heart attack.

Unfortunately, this government analysis was not an appropriate interpretation and many women who had considered HRT to address problematic conditions experienced during menopause (http://www. familyjoy. net/pages/menopausetreatment) were frightened and chose not to consider this as an option for treatment.

During this five year period when many women were concerned, Dr. David McLaughlin, a knowledgeable and skilled physician with over 30 years of experience who directs the Women's Specialty Health Centers, a medical practice that is focused on gynecology (http://www. familyjoy. net/pages/gynecologic), continued to study, observe and practice hormone replacement therapy as a safe way to alleviate the incessant hot flashes, memory loss, irritability and loss of libido that resulted from the lack of adequate menopausal hormones.

After all, hormone replacement therapy has been successfully used in England for over 40 years and Dr. McLaughlin has over 25 years of successfully providing this treatment. His personal knowledge combined with laboratory and empirical data indicated that individualized treatment with bioidentical hormones derived from plant sources had produced success in alleviating many unpleasant conditions associated with menopause (http://www. familyjoy. net/pages/femalemenopause) and any risks with HRT outweighed the disadvantages when patient health was continually monitored and evaluated.

New information now affirms that Dr. McLaughlin's approach to HRT (http://www. familyjoy. net/pages/customhrt-pellets) is beneficial. Of course Dr. McLaughlin, the skilled and knowledgeable staff at the Womens Specialty Health Care Centers and more importantly their patients already knew this.

Recent studies published in the Journal of American Medicine showed a 7% lower risk of dying from a heart attack and a 30% lowered risk of those dying from any cause for those on HRT. These facts were also confirmed in an article published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. Another recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine showed a 60% lower risk of severe coronary artery calcium seen on a heart scan in 50-59 year-old women using HRT. Additional benefits of HRT include: reduced hip fractures, reduced colon cancer and a lower risk of diabetes. Other benefits are apparent and are being studied, analyzed and evaluated.

Women undergoing menopausal changes that are affecting their quality of life may wish to schedule a consultative appointment. Dr. McLaughlin's informative and comprehensive web-site provides information for women that may be seeking compassionate care, treatment and answers.

New Total Wellness Cleanse Helps People Lose Weight and Cleanse Their Body of Deadly Toxins Just in Time For The Holidays!

New Total Wellness Cleanse Helps People Lose Weight and Cleanse Their Body of Deadly Toxins Just in Time For The Holidays!

The new 30-day holistic Total Wellness Cleanse™ becomes first full body and colon cleanse program to offer daily support and a personalized diet and lifestyle plan to lose weight, enjoy a more energetic and radiant body, and reach one's New Year's health resolutions - and without deprivation or gimmicky detox pills! Incredible holiday savings of up to 70% off the regular price of the cleanse ends this Saturday December 20, 2008 and is limited to only 200 motivated individuals who are looking to make 2009 their best year ever

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) December 16, 2008

Losing weight, eating healthier, overcoming holiday excess, and kick-starting the New Year fitter and healthier than ever is now possible thanks to the brand new Total Wellness Cleanse (http://www. totalwellnesscleanse. com/register. html)™.

Developed and lead by Total Wellness Consulting's renowned holistic nutritionists and wellness coaches, Yuri Elkaim and Amy Coates, the Total Wellness Cleanse™ is the only 30-day cleanse (http://www. totalwellnesscleanse. com/register. html) program to offer each member a highly-informative, food-based holistic approach to cleansing and detoxification (http://www. totalwellnesscleanse. com/register. html), daily support via phone and email, a personalized nutritional and lifestyle assessment, a customized 8-week dietary and lifestyle plan, a 12-week guided fitness program, and individual "one-on-one" coaching.

"January is the time when everyone wants to rid their bodies of the excess (food and alcohol) from the holidays and lose weight but the problem is that most people don't know how. Some people turn to quick-fix supplements or generic colon cleanse programs to lose weight and get healthy but they quickly fall off course because these avenues are most often too unrealistic and don't provide them with what's most important - the education, support, and personalized attention we all need to succeed in the long term. A little nutritional education and individual attention goes a long way, and we provide a lot!" says Elkaim.

Cleansing is an essential component to overall health. It helps remove toxins and acid accumulation from the liver, colon, and fat cells, and gives the body a "break" from constant stressors. A "master" cleanse should provide the nutritional support necessary to repair and heal the body's vital organs (liver, colon, kidneys, etc...), which are normally bombarded by a poor diet and lifestyle choices.

We cleanse for health, vitality, rejuvenation, and to help the body clear symptoms, treat disease, and prevent future problems. Cleansing is also valuable in helping us lose weight (http://www. totalwellnesscleanse. com/register. html), although this is not the primary purpose.

Yet, many people believe that a one-time colon cleanse (http://www. totalwellnesscleanse. com/register. html), colonix, or even doing the master cleanse will solve their health issues and help them lose weight. However, the reality is that without improving dietary and lifestyle habits, it is very difficult to lose weight and look and feel healthier in the long run. The body needs to be healed from the inside out and, thus, healthier eating and diet habits need to be formed for long-term success.

"Our goal is to provide participants with an experience that will change their body, their health, and their lives in a safe, effective, and highly supportive manner. Our holistic cleanse attends to the physical, emotional, and psychological elements of losing weight, health and overall well-being and teaches participants how to follow a healthy diet for life", adds Elkaim. "And since the cleanse is conducted on a "virtual" platform (Web, email, teleclasses, phone), there is no need for participants to travel to meetings or support groups since they can access all the information and support from the comfort of their own home. This allows us to provide a more personalized and thorough health transformation for people anywhere around the world."

The Total Wellness Cleanse™ runs from January 2 to January 31, 2009 and, because of its highly service-oriented approach, can only accommodate 200 motivated participants. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and special holiday pricing ends this Saturday December 20, 2008 or when the 200-person capacity has been reached - whichever is first.

As a special holiday gift, registrants can save up to 70% off the regular price when they register for this highly anticipated cleanse today! To secure a spot in the Total Wellness Cleanse™, hurry over to http://www. TotalWellnessCleanse. com/register. html (http://www. TotalWellnessCleanse. com/register. html)].
