Loving our Roots
The Natural Hair & Beauty Show 2004 (formerly the Toronto Nappy Hair Fair) is community oriented grassroots event, that was created and produced by Stephanie Joseph and her staff.
(PRWEB) October 2, 2004
This exciting event will celebrate everything from natural hair care, to health and beauty tips. A one day event filled with something for everyone ~ delicious food, exciting entertainment, vendors, educational presentations, a fashion show, workshops, spoken word artistry, a hair show as well as activities for children.
The theme of this year's event is "Connecting with Our Roots".
Historically, we have been brainwashed by society, the media and yes, our own culture into thinking that bone straight or loosely curled (i. e. "biracial") hair ="good" and that black "kinky","nappy","coiled" or even "locked" hair = "bad", because we think it is "unmanageable" or "ugly".
Nothing could be further from the truth. This has adversely affected our sense of self and our standards of beauty. The sad part is that we've been relaxing and hiding our naps for so long, quite a few of us have no idea how to take care of our natural hair. Don't misunderstand, there's nothing wrong with wearing a weave or a perm, we just need to know we have a choice.
The Toronto Natural Hair & Beauty Show exists to cause a shift in such negative mindsets and promote a positive image of people who choose to wear their hair naturally.
The event promises to be an ideal opportunity for those who have locs or wear their hair chemical free, to meet together with others who understand their natural hair care needs. The Toronto Natural Hair & Beauty Show is bound to be a SUCCESS. After all, it is driven exclusively by the needs of its target audience.
