Dallas, TX (PRWEB) June 9, 2004

Elizabeth Poster will be the keynote speaker at the D/FW Medical Device Action Alliance's conference, "Medical Devices, The Ups and Downs of Success". Dr Poster, Dean of the University of Texas at Arlington's School of Nursing, will describe UTA's "Smart Hospital and Health System" learning facility June 16 at 9:00 a. m., at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Poster has been UTA's champion for the project, which uses sophisticated robots, or Human Patient Simulators (HPS), to simulate patients.

The HPS's responses to treatment are as nearly human as possible, including death. Healthcare providers gain realistic feedback, and can be tested in exacting, critical care situations. This learning model has long been used in aviation and military healthcare training, and studies have proved its effectiveness. The facility will be a regional training and demonstration center; Phase I is a Smart Emergency Department that will include rural and community emergency care departments.

"Medical Devices: The Ups and Downs of Success", beginning at 8:00 a. m. at UTSouthwestern's Simmons Research Building, is a daylong conference featuring presentations from investors and product developers, in addition to Dr. Poster. It is open to the public; the cost is $60 for the general public and $3 for students and professors. To register for the conference, call Nancy Williams at 972-256-2291 or register online at www. medicaldevicealliance. org/conference (http://www. medicaldevicealliance. org/conference).
