(PRWEB) April 25, 2005

Research shows that when businesses support the arts they attract and retain more satisfied employees and customers. Now businesses have an opportunity for a new reward for their good deeds: national recognition from the pre-eminent business-arts organization in the United States. The Business Committee for the Arts, Inc. (BCA) today announced that nominations are open for THE BCA TEN: Best Companies Supporting the Arts in America. Sponsored by BCA and FORBES Magazine, nominations are being accepted through May 26, 2005, 5:00 p. m. EDT.

The first recognition program of its type, THE BCA TEN was created to recognize small, midsize and large businesses for their exceptional involvement in the arts. A panel of judges from the arts and business will select the ten companies. THE BCA TEN will be announced on October 5, 2005 during a gala event sponsored by the Principal Financial Group® and The First American Corporation to be held in the Rubin Museum of Art, New York, NY.

“These companies will set the standard and be role models for other companies to follow as BCA works to increase business support to the arts by 10% during the next three years,” said Judith A. Jedlicka, President, BCA, a national not-for-profit organization established in 1967 by David Rockefeller to bring business and the arts together.

“Any company selected for THE BCA TEN has a real competitive advantage because employees and customers favor businesses that support the arts,” said J. Barry Griswell, Chairman, President and CEO, Principal Financial Group, and a Vice Chairman of BCA. “We’ve found this to be true in our organization and research from the BCA backs this up.”

According to a recent BCA Online Survey, the majority (93%) of employees responding indicated they would rather work for companies that support the arts and 88% of respondents indicated they would rather do business with companies that support the arts.

“Supporting the arts is good for the arts and it is also good for business and the communities where they are located,” said Christopher Forbes, Vice Chairman Forbes Inc., and a Vice Chairman of BCA. “It is our hope that THE BCA TEN will inspire other businesses to invest in the arts.”

The BCA Leadership Award recipient and the inductee into the BCA Hall of Fame (formerly the BCA Founders Award) will also be announced during the October 5 gala. Recognition events will also be scheduled in the community of each company of the list.
