Michael Albert, Sr. founded U. S. Railways, Inc. in 2003, and is located in Chicago. U. S. Railways, Inc., is one of the few Black-owned freight railroad intra-plant switching contractors in North America.
Intra-plant switching involves moving freight rail cars between the main railroad line and the company's property for shipping and receiving purposes. This is done by using the railroad tracks on the company's property. Many large companies use this service, such as Ford, Nabisco and U. S. Steel.
"As a small relatively new company, U. S. Railways, Inc., has less overhead than most, if not all, freight railroad switching contractors", Albert said. "Therefore, we can pass the savings on to our customers."
Albert was inspired to found the company after reading an article on a Black-owned freight transportation company in North Carolina from the 1850s. The owner, Joseph Hayne Rainey, transported freight by horse on the street railway between the Charleston wharves and the railroad depot. In 1870 Rainey became the first Black man to serve in the U. S. House of Representatives.
Railroad transportion in North America is a very lucrative industry; there are over 600 freight railroads operating today in the U. S., Canada, and Mexico, grossing $42 billion annually. Demand for freight transport is expected to jump 67% by 2020, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
Railroads transport more than 42% of U. S. intercity freight and remain the backbone of North America's freight transportation, transporting more than trucks, ships or airplanes. U. S. freight railroads are the world's busiest, moving more freight than any rail system in any other country. In fact, U. S. railroads move more than four times as much freight as do all of Western Europe's freight railroads combined.
U. S. Railways, Inc., has the structure to successfully compete in the railroad transportation industry. We have a nationally recognized Railroad Consultant, Gary Hunter(www. railroadindustriesinc. com)with over 25 years of experience, who has negotiated contracts for many of the largest railroads (e. g. Union Pacific, Burlington Northern Santa-Fe, Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation). Mr. Hunter is the principal owner of Railroad Industries Incorporated and is the only Black Railroad Consultant in the U. S. Our attorney, Thomas F. McFarland, P. C., is also nationally well-known in the North American railroad industry and has over 35 years of experience.
Additionally, we are using the services of a Marketing Consultant, Ron Murray, CEO of Straight Talk International, a marketing company based in Chicago and South Africa. Mr. Murray meets with the International Marketing Council of South Africa and is following up on contacts made on behalf of U. S. Railways, Inc.
U. S. Railways, Inc., is the "Buffalo Soldiers", the 761st Tank Batallion, WWII's "forgotten soldiers" and the Tuskegee Airmen of America's railroad industry.
