Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain Management executives from the Midwest’s top corporations, who collectively generate over $275 billion in sales, employ over 1.9 million people and enjoy world-wide operations met for the third time on March 21, 2006, to share their experiences in driving value to their respective organizations in a competitive global economy.
The one day summit entitled, “The Best Practices Xchange (BPX)”, included a “Who’s Who” of the Midwest’s top Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain Management Executives and was hosted by McDonalds Corporation at Hamburger University in Oak Brook, IL. The Group had an opportunity to hear from three very diverse and senior speakers.
Dave Weick, the CIO of McDonald’s was able to provide us with the internal customer perspective of Sourcing for a global company. Jim Baillon, the VP of Supply Chain and Sourcing for WE Energies, shared his experience as a provider of sourcing services. Lastly, Brain Sommer, a leading edge thought-leader in Sourcing and a senior fellow with The Mpower Group shared his vision of the where sourcing is going in the future. These presentations, lively discussion, and the opportunity to benchmark other leading sourcing organizations is the reason the members of BPX take the time to gather on a quarterly basis.
Justine Knizeski, VP & Chief Procurement Officer of Health Care Service Corporation and active BPX member noted: “I find the peer-to-peer interaction between senior executives to be extremely valuable. It allows me to exchange best practices and know what to do and what not to do. The discussions are very practical and oriented towards actionable recommendations. I would highly recommend BPX to anyone interested in pursuit of excellence”
Topics covered at the meeting included:
The Sourcing Function: A Clients Perspective was presented by Dave Weick, CIO & Senior VP of Shared Services for McDonalds Corporation. Dave reviewed the strategic direction they have taken with their global sourcing organization and how they are fundamentally transforming how IT is acquired across the globe.
Supply Chain: An Assessment of the Last Five Years was presented by Jim Baillon, VP of Supply Chain and Administrative Services for WE Energies. Jim reviewed the significant changes that this public utility has made in the sourcing function and how they are now making an important contribution to the bottom line.
Lower Your Cost, Not Your Guard was presented by Brian Sommer, a Senior Fellow of The Mpower Group. Brian discussed macro-economic, technological and risk oriented trends that need to be evaluated to make better sourcing decisions long term.
BPX is a members-only, peer-to-peer group with a charter to provide thought leadership, advanced solutions and networking opportunities to group members.
