RenewAire™ Moves to New LEED™ Facility

RenewAire LLC is a major manufacturer of Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) equipment and has recently moved to a new office and manufacturing facility.

Madison, WI (PRWEB) November 3, 2005

RenewAire LLC, a major manufacturer of Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) equipment, has recently moved to a new office and manufacturing facility. The facility is designed to expand production capacity and support services for its customers throughout North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.

The 40,000 square foot facility contains approximately 9,000 square feet of office space. A training center with ample space for product displays and operational ERV demonstration units is also included. The expansion doubles the production space for RenewAire’s broad offering of both residential and commercial sized ERV equipment.

A significant factor in the design of the facility was RenewAire’s commitment to have the building certified under the US Green Building Council, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) “green building” program. Since beginning production of ERV products in 1983, RenewAire has built its business around energy efficiency and improved indoor environmental quality, two of the five major categories rated in the LEED program. Chuck Gates, RenewAire’s President, states, “The LEED decision was an easy one. LEED matches the core values this company has held since its founding. We believe LEED will be a major market driver for growing ERV sales. Finally, it is in RenewAire’s best interest to have a healthy and more productive work environment for our employees and guests. This facility successfully achieves all three goals and is a joy.”

The LEED Certification program is a voluntary program which awards points for superior energy efficiency and green building practices. While the scoring is not confirmed until building commissioning and final application has been completed it is believed RenewAire’s facility will be the first LEED Silver building in Madison, Wisconsin. The project is also quite unique in that it made re-use of an existing metal building shell. Eric Truelove, P. E., the LEED consultant for the project described: “Now with a number of LEED projects certified, I can say it is relatively easy when it is new construction with a big budget. The RenewAire project shows you can take a metal building found in any industrial park and on a modest budget develop a LEED Silver building. A significant contribution to the scoring was due to the six RenewAire ERVs installed to provide ventilation in the building.”

Many additional products and design features contribute to certification. Some of these include: daylighting, multistage high efficiency artificial lighting, sealed combustion radiant heat, 14 SEER-CFC and HCFC free (no chlorine) air conditioning, recycled soda bottle carpeting, corn based office dividers, wheat straw board cabinets and many more. In total the RenewAire facility is expected to earn approximately 35 points out of the maximum possible 69 points to earn a Silver Certification. The extra cost is currently estimated be $1 per square foot with an expected payback period of one to two years.

RenewAire is proud to give tours or host meetings for HVAC affiliated individuals our groups. A LEED fact sheet is also available at the RenewAire website www. renewaire. com/LEED. pdf (http://www. renewaire. com/LEED. pdf).
