Ottawa, Canada --November 27, 2001--
LookWAYup. com has expanded its online English dictionary and thesaurus to include translation to French, German, Spanish, Dutch, and Portuguese.
LookWAYup. com (a division of RES inc.) introduced the Personal Version of the LookWAYup dictionary/thesaurus and search assistant for browsers and web sites in 2000. Versions for cell phones and wireless handhelds were released this year. This tool enables its user to look up the definition of any word on any web site with the click of a button, or to type in a term.
Artificial Intelligence Engine
The LookWAYup on-line dictionary has proven to be extremely popular. It attracts traffic of over 500,000 lookups per month and has received enthusiastic reviews all over the world. Why is it so popular? Because it looks for appropriate definitions and searches based on the context in which the word is used.
For any given word, LookWAYup corrects your spelling and takes grammar and context into account before proposing different senses of the word. Its integrated thesaurus gives examples, as well as synonyms, more general and more specific terms.
Full Version Just Released
The new Full Version of LookWAYup makes the web more accessible to second-language English speakers and to students by offering several features beyond the Personal Version, including translation. When looking up a word, LookWAYup Full Version translates it to your language, and provides additional English usage information for each sense. By translating the correct sense of the word, it avoids the usual pitfalls caused by multiple definitions of the same word. For example, "act" is translated differently depending whether it is used as a noun or a verb, whether the context is "he acts quickly", "he acts like a child", or "she acts Lady Macbeth". LookWAYup is unique because its integrated thesaurus is used to translate the meaning that is right for the context.
"We're getting feedback from all over the world, in many languages", says RES Technology VP Martin Laplante. "Non-native speakers are using it for reading news sites, health sites, even for reading and writing online e-mail. ItÂs also helping kids with homework."
Availability
Current users of the LookWAYup Personal Version can upgrade to the new LookWAYup Full Version at an introductory offer of $10 (US) per year. The LookWAYup Personal Version is still available free for individuals and small to medium web sites. There is a one month free trial of the Full Version.
