Over the period of an hour, the patient rests while the Zeltiq system lowers the temperature of the treated area to just above freezing. This causes a crystallization of the fat cells (which freeze at a higher temperature than water) while not adversely affecting the skin.
Once the cells are sufficiently “frozen”, they go into break down mode and over a period of several months, this breakdown results in fat loss – and the loss is permanent.
