Working with a lifestyle fitness coach is a collaborative experience, where you participate in creating the program and routine that works best for you and in setting weekly goals that fits your life. In this way you get to decide which activities you prefer to do, at the times you like to do them, and at the pace and convenience that is right for you. There are no shoulds and comparisons. No rigid or fixed programs. No right or wrong, or good or bad choices. For some people, the best way to start is with a 10 minute walk several days a week. For others it is updating their strength training program and getting them re-motivated to go back to the gym. When it comes to eating better, the issues vary from finding time and easy options in order to eat regularly to overcoming emotional eating and bingeing. North Shore Women's Journal, http://www. nswj. com (http://www. nswj. com): "When I hit 41, I realized I was no longer able to get control over my weight. I was up three sizes from just a year earlier, and nothing in my closet fit anymore. I couldn't figure out what had changed so drastically. I always struggled, but not like this", reports Alice Greene, Lifestyle Fitness Coach in the December issue of the North Shore Women's Journal, http://www. NSWJ. com (http://www. NSWJ. com).

At 42 I took action. I had to do something, and somehow I knew that this time had to be different. I couldn't just join a gym, hire a trainer for a year, or pretend to use my Stairmaster in the basement. These approaches had never ended up working. Somewhere deep inside of me was a new resolve to do what I had never done before. I found an inner determination to exercise for me, to do it my way at home, and to get committed no matter how long it took to get back into my clothes. I was disgusted with my body, and I wanted one last chance to feel good about my body again before it was too late. And that is just what I did!

It took a year to fit into my clothes, but I kept it up and changed the whole look of my body. I became a success, and it changed my life. I now feel great in my body, and I discovered a passion for exercise and helping others accomplish what I did.

Are you over 40 and struggling with your weight? Have you tried everything and still can't seem to find the right answer for you? This is common. This is why I started Fit Beyond 40. I was frustrated by the traditional options where I didn't feel understood, cared about or motivated, so I created my own approach and then I sought out education and training to support my concept so I could share it with others. I am a lifestyle fitness coach, with certifications and experience to back up my approach.

The result of my efforts is a lifestyle-oriented approach to getting and staying fit that focuses on enjoyable, highly flexible and realistic ways of incorporating regular exercise and healthy eating into daily routines. What is different is the use of life coaching techniques married with the principles of personal training, intuitive eating, physical therapy and basic nutrition. Instead of physically meeting multiple times a week, you get all the expert advice and support you need during a weekly call to get a routine that meets your unique situation, to be accountable and motivated to make your goals, and to gain the self-empowerment to stick with it.

Everyone is different. Everyone is starting from a different place and has different needs, life situations and capabilities. What works is starting with what you can do, addressing your unique challenges and making progress at the rate that best serves you. But to do this, you need expert guidance and someone to guide you the way you need and want to be guided. That is what I needed and couldn't get. I learned the hard way that what it takes to succeed at getting and staying fit is to find what works specifically for you at the level you are at, and then to understand and support what motivates you to reach your goals. That is what a lifestyle fitness coach can help you accomplish.

During a coaching call, you get a chance to talk about what is and isn't working, to get exercise and eating guidance and advice, and to discuss ways to make changes in your life to make fitness a priority. You have an opportunity to be understood and supported exactly the way you need to be, so you can make fitness a way of life for long term results and feel great again in your own body.

"This program makes it easy. And what is great is that I'm not doing it for my coach. I'm doing it for me."
