Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) August 16, 2006
Run Wild Racing is pleased to announce its management of the second annual New Albany 10K Walking Classic to be held on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006. The Classic is the premier event of the New Albany Walking Club. This walker-only event is one of the most unique and prestigious of any race in the country. All proceeds from the New Albany 10K Walking Classic are donated to The American Heart Association and the New Albany Walking Club Health and Wellness Fund, housed at the New Albany Community Foundation.
The 6.2-mile race provides an opportunity for all types of walkers – recreational and competitive – to participate in a unique event exclusive to walkers. The Classic also supports the primary goal of the New Albany Walking Club, which is to promote individual, community and family health through walking.
“To motivate walker participation, we are providing more perks than have ever been given in any walking or running race previously held in the United States,” said Dr. Phil Heit, race director. Every finisher will receive a unisex silver race pendant designed exclusively for the Classic by the Diamond Cellar. In addition, every entrant will also receive a high-quality, embroidered fleece top.
A well-organized group of volunteers and community supporters help make the New Albany 10K Walking Classic a first-class event. Primary race sponsors include The Diamond Cellar, Kelly BMW, New Albany Surgical Hospital, Medical Mutual of Ohio and Limitedbrands, with support from 25 additional sponsors.
Awards will be given for top five overall male and female finishers. Age group awards will be given to the top three men and woman in each of seven age categories.
The event will begin and end at Market Square in downtown New Albany, Ohio. The loop course winds through the scenic New Albany Country Club community and features magnificent homes, a beautiful golf course and miles of white fences.
Interested walkers can visit www. newalbanywalkingclassic. com for information and to register for the event. Walkers must pre-register to participate. Pre-registration is $45 and is available until Sept. 16 or until registration reaches 3,000 participants, whichever comes first. Packet pickup is available Sept. 10-16 at FrontRunner, located at 1344 W. Lane Ave. in Upper Arlington, Ohio and walkers must pick up packets before race day. The race begins at 8:00 a. m.
The New Albany Walking Club was established in 2003 by Dr. Phil Heit and is dedicated to promoting walking for health and/or competition. Membership in the Club is open to anyone interested in walking in a supportive group atmosphere. For more information, log on to www. newalbanywalkingclub. com.
