Bird Flu Kill 25th Victim in Indonesia

Bird Flu Kill 25th Victim in Indonesia

Indonesia is now the main hotspot of the bird flu virus. Vietnam has gotten its bird flu under control. Indonesia is letting other serious problems take priority.

Ballwin, MO (PRWEB) May 2, 2006

Based on local laboratory tests, a 30 year old man in Tangerang, a city 25 miles west of Jakarta, died of the H5N1 bird flu virus Friday April 28.

He makes the 25th Indonesian to die of bird flu. Only Vietnam, at 42 deaths, has had more bird flu deaths. However, Vietnam has aggressively culled infected chickens, and has not reported any bird flu cases in people so far in 2006.

"Vietnam seems to have bird flu under control right now," says Richard Stooker, author of How to Protect Yourself and Your Family From Bird Flu. "Indonesia is now the most dangerous bird flu center. Perhaps because it's a large country with many widespread islands, the central government has not been able to keep the virus under control."

The government last December announced its 2006-2008 National Avian Influenza Strategic Management Plan. This had a two major parts: Control of avian influenza outbreaks in humans and animals. Prepare for the emergence of a human pandemic.

However, Indonesia is a poor country faced with many economic troubles, dangerous diseases and natural disasters. Bird flu may not seem like a high priority until it is killing many more chickens and people.

The UN World Health Organization has yet to confirm the latest victim died of the H5N1 bird flu virus.
