The call for FDA reform follows closely on the heels of a recent report by the Institute of Medicine, part of the National Academy of Sciences, titled: The Future of Drug Safety: Promoting and Protecting the Health of the Public. These government advisors also called for sweeping changes within the FDA citing, “The FDA and the pharmaceutical industry do not consistently demonstrate accountability and transparency to the public by communicating safety concerns in a timely and effective fashion.”
