Yesterday's Donuts and Today's Gas Prices in America by Munawar Rasheed
The owners of the gas stations are complaining of decrease in their daily sales because of recent jump in gas prices. I was so hungry and had only three bucks in my pocket when I parked my car at one of the gas stations in Kalamazoo, MI. My car took a deep breath when I parked it because it has been moving on prayers for the whole day; absolutely not on gas because the tank was almost empty as was my stomach.

I was wondering if I should put something in my stomach or in my car's tank. It was a hard decision because of the limited budget and sky high price of gas: $2.99 a gallon for regular unleaded. Hot and sunny day, empty stomach and no gas in car had already taken my skills away to reach on a perfect strategy to make these three bucks work for both needs.
Why not go inside the store and try to find some stuff to eat first and then think about gas. Health is wealth so forget the gas now and find something to eat, I talked to myself.
Surprisingly, there were no customers in the store and the cashier was almost asleep. When he noticed my presence he jumped out his chair and shouted loudly, "Welcome Sir" "Welcome Sir. What happened to you man, why are you shouting? Calm down, Calm down, I am just a customer, I said.
How may I help you Sir? Do you need gas? What do you need Sir? He kept on talking.
Yes I need gas but I am hungry and I have only three bucks. Do you have any thing that I can afford within a dollar amount and rest of the money I can spend on buying gas?
How about free food if you promise to spend all of your three dollars on gas, he replied.
Wow. This is a wonderful deal. What am I going to get to eat? He gave me a box full of donuts and set my pump for three dollars in unleaded gas.
I could not wait to fill my empty stomach and took a very big bite of donut and asked him, why you offered me a free box of donuts.
You know, what he said? May be yesterday's donuts could help us in selling some gas otherwise people simply don't want to buy gas.
