Hanover Park, IL (PRWEB) November 17, 2009 -

A new study published in the latest issue of Neurology Journal discovered that sleep apnea, including obstructive, central or mixed apnea, was present in 50%-70% of stroke patients. The scientists recommend that all stroke patients shall be screened for sleep apnea.

The new study conducted in Germany was published in the October issue of Neurology Journal (Oct 20, 2009, 73(16):1313-22, PubMed, PMID 19841384), titled "Sleep-Related Breathing And Sleep-Wake Disturbances In Ischemic Stroke". The scientists reviewed current knowledge about frequency, clinical presentation, and consequences of poststroke sleep disorder breathing (SDB) and sleep-wake disturbances (SWD). They discovered that about 50% - 70% of stroke patients had sleep apnea related conditions, and sleep disorder breathing was associated with cognitive disturbances of Stroke, and sleep apnea could compromise neurologic recovery. The scientists recommend that every stroke patient shall be screened for sleep apnea by respirography. These findings and recommendations are extremely valuable not only for successful management of stroke patients, but also for preventing strokes with early diagnosis and management of sleep apnea, given the fact that sleep apnea has been linked to the most causes of CDC's top 10 causes of death and stroke is on top 3 of CDC's top 10 causes of death, secondary to the heart attacks and cancer.

According to NIH, the National Institute of Health, sleep apnea is a very common but deadly disease if not timely diagnosed and properly treated. Untreated sleep apnea can increase the risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, obesity, and diabetes, increase the risk for or worsen heart failure, make irregular heartbeats more likely and increase the chance of having work-related or driving accidents.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, a branch of NIH, the most common type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), caused by relaxation of soft tissue in the back of the throat that blocks the passage of air. Central sleep apnea (CSA) is caused by irregularities in the brain's normal signals to breathe. The current treatment options include mainly conservative CPAP, continuous positive airway pressure, and surgeries for severe sleep apnea.

From the latest worldwide scientific research, sleep apnea has been linked to not only the most causes of the CDC's top 10 causes of death and but also the most commonly or frequently seen medical conditions. Some research indicated that sleep apnea patients may increase healthcare utilization by six folds and car accident by 8 to 20 folds. Therefore, sleep apnea could be said as the main primary cause of death and primary cause of $2.5 trillion in U. S. healthcare expenditure. The solution to sleep apnea may save lives and contain U. S. healthcare crisis.

It was estimated that more than 95-97% of sleep apnea sufferers were never diagnosed. Even for those patients already diagnosed with sleep apnea, it was reported that only less than 20% of them have good tolerance and compliance with the prescribed gold CPAP therapy, and more than 60% to 80% of patients already diagnosed with sleep apnea have no or poor tolerance with or benefit from the standard medical treatment with CPAP or surgery.

Therefore, for more than 50% - 70% of sleep apnea patients, a no-surgery and no-mask sleep apnea solution is urgently needed to successfully manage and eliminate sleep apnea.

About Dr. Jin Zhou:

Dr. Jin Zhou, D. C., M. D. (China), a former orthopedic surgeon 21 years ago in China and currently a licensed chiropractic physician in Illinois for the last 18 years, is dedicated to developing a revolutionary breakthrough, an extremely simple and super natural therapy that could potentially save millions of lives and trillions of dollars without having to rely upon only medication, surgery and device.

Dr. Jin Zhou believes the entire world is completely wrong so far on the real cause of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), such as explained by NIH, "OSA is caused by relaxation of soft tissue in the back of the throat that blocks the passage of air". Exactly opposite, according to Dr. Zhou, OSA is not caused by "the relaxation of soft tissue in the back of the throat", instead, OSA is caused by overstretching force of the trachea as trachea caudal displacement (TCD) (the windpipe moving downward) and vocal cord dysfunction (VCD), resulted from diaphragm malfunction and baroreflex dysfunction. In addition, as Dr. Zhou hypothesized, the dysfunction of the baroreflex, chemoreflex, metabo-reflex, mechanoreflex, psychosomato-reflex and respiration pace-making malfunction, due to psychological, environmental and anatomical causations, are primarily and intricately responsible for the obstructive and central sleep apnea development. Dr. Zhou further hypothesized that all of these sleep apnea etiological components are primarily controlled or regulated internally by the human body but induced externally. Therefore, sleep apnea shall be completely reversible primarily through volitional resuscitation, resetting of the baroreflex and revitalization of the upper airway defense reflex by working through patient's body internally instead of externally through surgeries and devices. Dr. Zhou developed ZHT, Zhou's Hypoxicology Therapy, as an alternative non-surgery and no-mask solution for sleep apnea patients.

Dr. Zhou is also a nationally renowned expert in healthcare crisis turnaround, compliance and reimbursement. Dr. Jin Zhou is the president of ERISAclaim. com.
