Buffalo, NY (PRWEB) May 10, 2007
To mark World Fair Trade Day on May 12, 2007, local Jolica Gift Consultants across the United States will be hosting open houses featuring Fair Trade silver jewelry and other personal accessories.
Typically fair trade in North America is associated with coffee and chocolate, but there is also a growing market for fair trade handcrafts. Jolica provides silver and glass jewelry as well as leather handbags and silk and alpaca scarves that are all fairly traded. These products are handmade by artisans living in countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Chile and Peru. Fair trade relationships improve the lives of 5 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America by providing them with a fair price for their crafts, healthy working conditions, and long-term relationships. More details about the principles of fair trade can be found on the website of Fair Trade Federation (www. fairtradefederation. org).
Fair Trade is being celebrated globally on May 12, 2007, as part of an event known as World Fair Trade Day. As a proud partner in Fair Trade, Jolica is participating by hosting a series of local and online Open Houses. The local events will vary by region while the online open house will be available all day on May 12, 2007. In addition to supporting Fair Trade artisans through purchasing their products, guests will have the opportunity to support the designated Fair Trade project -- helping Indonesian artisans rebuild following earthquakes in July 2006 and flooding in January 2007. For most artisans, their home is also their workshop and so when their home is destroyed, their livelihood is wiped out. Rebuilding homes puts the family on a solid footing as it provides shelter and a source of income.
At each Jolica home-based party, Jolica Consultants take their guests to destinations around the world through personal stories from individual artisans who have designed the pieces on display. As a registered partner with the Fair Trade Federation, Jolica supports talented artisans in countries like Peru, Chile, Nepal and Thailand. Plus, 5% of every purchase goes to the Jolica Foundation to provide life-saving mosquito nets in Tanzania, making a Jolica Party more than just a party.
