Give Yourself the Gift of Change - Learn to Teach CorePower Yoga

Week-Intensive Power Yoga Teacher Training starts soon in Portland.

Portland, OR (Vocus) November 1, 2010

Ever thought about teaching yoga, but keep finding excuses, like time commitment and money, as to why you can’t make it happen? This holiday season, CorePower Yoga, known for its invigorating and unique yoga classes, will be offering a convenient One-Week Intensive Power Yoga Teacher Training from Saturday, Dec. 5 - Sunday, Dec. 11, at its Northwest Portland studio.

The perfect excuse for a personal getaway before the holiday festivities gear into full swing, CorePower Yoga’s Week-Intensive Teacher Trainings are a less expensive alternative to the 200-hour course. The programs are designed to fit into busy schedules and tight pocketbooks without forfeiting the cutting-edge curriculum or high caliber instruction of longer trainings.

“CorePower Yoga Teacher Trainings are inevitably empowering, not just through the sense of community they create, but because they empower students to find themselves,” says Brandon Cox, a CorePower Yoga teacher and the Colorado Regional Director. “CorePower Yoga Teacher Trainings help students really understand what they want out of life and it’s interesting that learning to teach yoga creates that change,” says Cox.

For just $999, teacher trainers will:
Learn how to teach a dynamic and effective yoga class  Gain practical teaching skills  Build the confidence to teach a basic yoga class  Receive a certificate of training completion from CorePower Yoga, as well as unlimited yoga practice at CorePower Yoga studios for the duration of the training and a CorePower Yoga Teacher Training manual

CorePower Yoga's Teacher Trainings are unique in that they are exceptionally practical – we teach people how to TEACH yoga, not just the poses. CorePower Yoga Teacher Trainings employ techniques such as anatomy study and posture specific workshops for a comprehensive experience, and offer prospective instructors a nurturing team environment in which to grow and evolve as teachers and individuals.

But you don't have to want to be a teacher to participate in CorePower Yoga's Teacher Trainings. More than just postures, CorePower Yoga Teacher Trainings get to the heart of yoga. In addition to providing a place to make a career out of yoga, the training’s distinctive offering allows you to take your practice to a new level, provides a broad understanding of posture mechanics and explores the deeper mental and physical side of yoga not covered in a class.

CorePower Yoga’s Week-Intensive Teacher Training program is for those who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their yoga practice. This proven program changes people’s lives – it's an emotional experience, dramatically empowering, career enhancing and life altering. After just one week you will have transformed your physical practice as well as learned to live your yoga off your mat.

When not in class, students will have the opportunity to enjoy the holiday season in the most environmentally friendly city in the United States with plenty of free time to fit in Portland’s appealing attractions.

With over 45 studios across California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and Oregon, CorePower Yoga operates two yoga studios in Portland.

GMAÂ’S SONA Has No Human Face

GMAÂ’S SONA Has No Human Face

ArroyoÂ’s SONA focused on economic and financial, and structural aspects of governance. It simply disregarded the socio-cultural elements of administration. Arroyo failed to realize human beings make up a country. She did not address this fact in her State of the Nation Address.

(PRWEB) August 1, 2005

“The SONA of Mrs. Arroyo pushed women beyond the margins,” says Marlea Muñez, Executive Director of WEDPRO, a women’s research and advocacy organization for women’s empowerment and social change.

Mrs. ArroyoÂ’s SONA focused on economic and financial, and structural aspects of governance. It simply disregarded the socio-cultural elements of administration. This country is not a laboratory composed of controlled specimens that can be remodeled according to designs of so called exact science. Mrs. Arroyo failed to realize that there are human beings in this country; there are Filipinos; there are women; and they are not pieces of equipment and definitely not specimens.

Time and again, the following issues have been raised to the government, but fell on deaf ears of Mrs. ArroyoÂ’s administration: feminization of poverty in the country; the reproductive health rights and sexual rights of women are being suppressed by limiting information dissemination and budget support; the rights of women migrant workers have not been actively protected; options to be free from violent relationships have not been supported; efforts to address discrimination against lesbians have been set aside; there have been lack of intensive retooling of agencies that are mandated to provide services to women; removal of death penalty has not been prioritized; the visiting forces continue to engage in military prostitution; women activists and womenÂ’s rights defenders are being threatened; economic activities of women are being unlawfully demolished; indigenous women have been alienated from their ancestral domains to give way to mining operations and large scale logging; roles of women in management of environment and natural resources have not been seriously taken up.

Muñez also raised the lack of due diligence on the part of GMA. Until now, GMA has not responded to the 2003 Concluding Observations of the UN Human Rights Committee. The Philippines has been urged to take measures to repeal all laws which have made it possible to impose the death penalty; to pursue its efforts to counter all forms of discrimination in particular to sexual orientation; to concretely address reported cases of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, harassment, intimidation and abuse, including of detainees, many of whom are women and children, that have neither been investigated nor prosecuted; to look at the vaguely worded anti-vagrancy law which has been used to arrest persons without warrant, especially women in prostitution and street children. The UN Human Rights Committee has also expressed its concerned on the exceedingly broad scope of the proposed legislation on against terrorism which could have a negative impact on the rights guaranteed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

It was also mentioned by WEDPRO during the mass action on the SONA day on July 25, 2005, that as continuing analysis and organizing of women happen on the ground, any government to administer this country should sincerely address not only the basic needs of people, but work for well-being of women that is fulfilled, satisfying, and self-determined to include economic productivity, access to social services, education, political participation, mobility, health, desired fertility, freedom from all forms of violence, and attainment personal security.

Common Money Mistakes Women Make

Common Money Mistakes Women Make

Marilyn Bergen takes center stage at the Portland Women's Show to teach women how to manage their finances and take fiscal responsibility for their future.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 1, 2010

When women find themselves alone, through divorce or death of a spouse, they often are confused about and unprepared to manage their finances. With up to fifty percent of marriages ending in divorce, and women outliving men sometimes by a margin of as much as ten years (according to an article by Harvard Medical School Scolars (http://www. healthfully. org), women will often find themselves needing to manage their finances alone.

Marilyn Bergen, CFP and co-president of CMC Advisers helps women sort out their finances. “Too often, a widow will come to my firm in confusion about her financial position because she left money management up to her husband,” says Bergen. "Many women fail to comprehend the importance of being fiscally responsible and knowlegable about their own finances." Giving financial tips on the main stage at the Portland Women’s Show Saturday October 9 at the Oregon Convention Center, Portland, Oregon, Bergen will be dispensing sage advice through her seminar titled “Creative Solutions for Common Money Mistakes.”

Statistically women are more likely to live alone for significant periods of time. When women rely on someone else to make financial decisions, they are unprepared and unskilled when they find themselves alone. Marilyn Bergen teaches the fundamentals of financial planning and guides women through steps to gain confidence and become accomplished at taking charge of money and investment decisions. Bergen offers these tips:
1. Don’t make emotional investments. Use solid intelligent and seek expert guided decisions.
2. Diversification is the key to success. Have at least five different asset allocation categories included in a long-term portfolio.
3. Postpone credit purchases.
4. Keep personal debt ratio below twenty percent of income.

National Coalition for the Advancement of Drug-Free Athletics (NCADFA) Reminds Parents to Discuss Steroid Abuse With Young Athletes

National Coalition for the Advancement of Drug-Free Athletics (NCADFA) Reminds Parents to Discuss Steroid Abuse With Young Athletes

New Jeresy Non-Profit Organization Offers Talking Points on Steroids

New Milford, NJ (PRWEB) March 15, 2006

Major League Baseball along with other professional sports organizations, serve as a reminder that the lure of being bigger, faster and stronger is powerful, especially for young athletes who feel they won’t have a competitive edge without the use of steroids or other performance enhancers. Parents of teen athletes are reminded that the 2006 Major League Baseball season provides an ideal opportunity to discuss with children the negative implications of taking steroids or other performance enhancing drugs, says Dr. Victor N. Naumov, DC, Founder and President, of the National Coalition for the Advancement of Drug-Free Athletics, Inc.(NCADFA),a New Milford, New Jersey based 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

“Parents are a powerful influence on their children, especially when it comes to using and not using dangerous substances like anabolic steroids or other performance enhancing drugs,” says Dr. Richard G. Brassard, DC. “While professional athletes have a variety of trainers, nutritionists, and health care specialists available, many kids are on their own. Parents should encourage their young athletes to prepare mentally and physically for competition through proper nutrition, physical training and plenty of rest.”

According to a May 2004 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, steroid use doubled among U. S. high-school students between 1991 and 2003. More than 6 percent, or as many as 1 million U. S. students, said they had taken steroids for at least one cycle (8-12 weeks of use). “Awareness is the first step towards prevention,” says Dr. Victor N. Naumov, DC.

To help combat this growing problem, the National Coalition for the Advancement of Drug-Free Athletics, Inc. (NCADFA) offers the following tips to help parents and coaches start a conversation with young athletes:

Be yourself and invite conversation.   Ask your athlete children how their exercise is going.   Ask if they are doing anything new to get an edge.   Start questions about supplements—ask if they are using any; if so, which ones and for what purpose?   Approach talking about steroids tactfully. Open up the conversation. Explain that it’s all about choices. Each athlete at some point needs to decide whether to achieve his or her greatest potential naturally—or to cheat by using steroids or similar substances.   If the child exhibits symptoms – such as increased muscle gain in a short period of time, increased acne, mood swings and irritability, and increased joint injuries – have him or her tested for steroid use. If the test results are positive, seek professional help. Steroids affect the brain as much as they affect the body, and so kids often need the counseling of a sports psychologist.

Encourage your athlete children to talk to a doctor of chiropractic about improving their athletic performance naturally. Doctors of chiropractic are drug-free professionals who can coach your children on proper rest, recuperation, and training techniques to reduce the risk of injuries. They can also teach your children about proper nutrition and the importance of a health nervous system as it's related to athletic skill. Chiropractors are natural leaders in the field of peak human performance at all ages and levels. For more information visit the NCADFA website www. NCADFA. org

CNI College Partners with WebMetro to Deploy New Website and Conversion-Driven Video Content

CNI College Partners with WebMetro to Deploy New Website and Conversion-Driven Video Content

Leading Internet marketing agency WebMetro redesigns and develops CNI College's new website with interactive video content.

San Dimas, CA (PRWEB) November 4, 2008

In an effort to support and educate the potential students who flock to CNI's website on a daily basis, CNI has redeployed their main website. With extensive use of video, an updated website design (http://www. webmetro. com/design. htm) and new content, the new site is designed to help prospective students consider their options and learn more about the programs CNI offers.

CNI has long tapped the power of the Internet to market their school and it is the primary way new students initially discover their programs. Jim Buffington, President of CNI College had this to say, "The young folks who come to our school are hungry for better opportunities and an education that will provide them a path to a new career and a new life. Of course, they're all online, so the move to the Internet was an easy decision to make many years ago. This newest version of the site, with video content (http://www. webmetro. com/vmarketing. htm) shot at our campuses, of actual students in our classrooms and labs, provides a window into the quality of education and the opportunity CNI provides."

CNI partnered with WebMetro, a leading Internet marketing company based in San Dimas, CA. WebMetro has been CNI's online marketing (http://www. webmetro. com/promotion. htm) partner for over 8 years, helping them establish their rankings in the search engines and market themselves online. WebMetro's interactive marketing team is a new addition to WebMetro's service offerings helping clients conceive, design and produce compelling video and interactive content to leverage online. "Our goal is to produce the assets that our clients need to convert visitors, gain exposure, increase awareness and build their brand. CNI's new video content will help them convey their message through dynamic rather than flat media - and that difference can be extremely powerful!", stated Marc J. Wymar, WebMetro's Director of Interactive Media.

CNI has other plans in the works to use video to help them speak directly to their potential students. One such program in development now is a series of videos targeted to veterans returning home from serving their country. According to Jim Buffington, "There are fantastic new government programs in place to help vets learn a trade and gain quality employment. We have many such vets currently enrolled in our programs and we want to share their story and let others know that we are here to help them take advantage of these programs and gain the empowerment they need and deserve!"

Mercy Ships Recognizes International Nurses Day

Mercy Ships Recognizes International Nurses Day

Volunteer nurses representing nations from all over the world are currently serving onboard the Africa Mercy to bring hope and healing to the forgotten poor

Lomé, Togo (Vocus) May 12, 2010

Seven-year old Aissa suffers from a debilitating condition called Noma, a bacteria which has eaten away nearly one side of her face. Her parents abandoned her, and she was severely malnourished. Without intervention, she would die. Surgery was unavailable in her country, Cameroon in West Africa. Mercy Ships volunteer and British doctor-in-training, Abi Boys, set up funding for the little girl to travel to the Mercy Ship in Togo, West Africa, for a free surgery.

Ali Chandra, a 26-year-old R. N. from New Jersey, is a ward supervisor and one of about 15 nurses who have touched Aissa’s life during her surgery and recovery onboard the hospital ship, the Africa Mercy. “There is something so incredible about watching a child transform, to go from fear to confidence, from anger to pure joy,” says Ali, who has had a front row seat to witness Aissa’s transformation during the first week of her recovery on the ward. Follow Aissa’s story at http://alirae. net/blog/archives/389-healing. html (http://alirae. net/blog/archives/389-healing. html).

Missy Brown, a member of the Association of PeriOperative Operating Room Nurses (AORN ) and an operating room team leader, is serving her second Field Service with Mercy Ships. As an OR nurse in Indiana, her experience, humble spirit, and work ethic are a perfect fit for the Africa Mercy. Watch as she retells why she has chosen this career at http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=q2jel01w_gg (http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=q2jel01w_gg).

With 100 nursing positions at any given time onboard the world’s largest non-governmental hospital ship, Mercy Ships requires approximately 750-800 nurses of all kinds to volunteer for a new 10 month field service in West African country each year. Some give two weeks to several months of service; others give years and call the ship their home. At present, there are 95 nurses onboard the Mercy Ship, representing 12 countries: Great Britain, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Canada, Norway, South Africa, and Austria.

Deyon Stephens, who directs Mercy Ships Education, says, “Though my formal nursing education was long ago, nursing has proven to be a wonderful background for much of my life. In the late 70's, I moved with my husband and young children onboard the first Mercy Ship, where we lived for 10 years developing and operating a floating hospital for the poor. What an outlet for the compassion, organization, and knowledge of nursing! Nursing – it’s training for life!”

ABOUT MERCY SHIPS:
Mercy Ships uses hospital ships to deliver free, world-class health care services to those without access in the developing world. Founded in 1978 by Don and Deyon Stephens, Mercy Ships has worked in more than 70 countries, providing services valued at more than $808 million, directly impacting more than 2.5 million beneficiaries. More than 1200 crew worldwide, representing more than 40 nations, are joined each year by 2000 short-term volunteers. Professionals including surgeons, dentists, nurses, health care trainers, teachers, cooks, seamen, engineers, and agriculturalists donate their time and skills to the effort.
