Halo Monitoring® Announces Partnership with A&D Medical to Offer Wireless Health Monitoring at Home

Halo Monitoring® Announces Partnership with A&D Medical to Offer Wireless Health Monitoring at Home

Track all your health information from a simple web dashboard. Optimally manage chronic illnesses such as hypertension and congestive heart failure (CHF)

Huntsville, AL (PRWEB) December 25, 2009

Halo Monitoring, Inc., makers of wireless healthcare technology, announce today a partnership with A&D Medical, enabling individuals to optimally manage their own health via the Internet or provide remote health monitoring of a loved one. The partnership extends the existing myHalo web-based personal health monitoring system by adding weight and blood pressure monitoring via a wireless Bluetooth connection.

MyHalo subscribers can now take advantage of this enhanced offering by using A&D Medical Bluetooth-enabled health products. The first two devices supported, as part of the partnership, are the A&D UC-321PBT Wireless Health Scale and the A&D UA-767PBT Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor. The myHalo Home Gateway connects to a standard phone line or to an Ethernet connection (when broadband is available in the home). Users only need to step on the scale or to take a blood pressure measurement from the device; the rest is automatic – health information is seamlessly and securely transmitted to the myHalo health server for viewing only by those individuals with authorized access. The combined system offers an economical solution for chronic disease management, such as congestive heart failure (CHF) and diabetes, or simply for general personal health monitoring at home.

This partnership is formed following the Veterans Health Administration Care Coordination / Home Telehealth (CCHT) report published in 2008. The study proved the efficacy of telehealth. In particular, the report demonstrated a reduction in hospitalization by roughly 25% (or as high as 40% in rural areas), and a program saving of nearly $11,000 annually per patient. In recent years, a number of technologies have become available to help manage healthcare at home. The Continua Health Alliance, for example, is one organization dedicated to standardization of the way healthcare products and devices communicate with one another.

MyHalo is the world’s most advanced personal health monitoring and alert system for seniors. The myHalo system includes two options in wearability - a belt clip (myHalo Clip) or a wearable chest strap (myHalo Complete). Both offer the clear benefit of the world's most reliable, automatic fall detection technology which is able to detect when the user has fallen versus simply lying down. However, myHalo Complete also offers the ability to track key vitals and can be worn 24/7 -- even in the shower. In addition, myHalo Complete can detect when the user is wearing or not wearing the device - and can alert caregivers to the heightened risk when it is removed. By visiting the website, caregivers are able to visualize health and activity information and detect changes in health and routine. While authorized caregivers receive a text or phone alert in the event of a serious event, they can also check in on their loved one to confirm they are safe and well.

“We are excited about this new partnership with A&D Medical as it enhances the value to our users and their caregivers/families who can view the information on line. Statistically, the average senior over age 65 is managing two chronic illnesses. Users can now track their vital signs continuously such as heart rate, temperature and sleep patterns via our own wearable device, but can also combine other traditional health monitoring devices such as the A&D equipment,” said Chris Otto, CEO of Halo Monitoring. “We selected A&D based on their years of proven commitment to quality and consumer friendly devices.”

“The myHalo system offers seniors, as well as those with chronic illnesses, peace of mind in the comfort of their own home,” said Brandon Katz, Product Manager at A&D Medical. “The myHalo system offers an intuitive, easy-to-use interface for elderly users to capture their health information to a permanent electronic file without requiring a home computer, lowering an adoption barrier.”

Users can buy the new devices from a number of distributors or directly from Halo Monitoring. To learn more about Halo Monitoring and the partnership, please visit www. halomonitoring. com

U. S. Based Anti-Youth Violence Group Condemns School Shooting in Germany

Warns That More Incidents Will Follow If U. S. And Other Countries DonÂ’t Teach Kids How To Resolve Conflict Peacefully

Washington, DC - (April 26, 2002) --- Today, the National Campaign Against Youth Violence (NCAYV) warned that in the tragic wake of the school shooting in Germany, we are likely to continue to see such incidents around the world and here in the U. S. if we donÂ’t take immediate steps to teach young people how to resolve conflict peacefully. This year in the United States, two out of every three kids will be threatened with a weapon, beaten up or bullied.

“As disheartening as this is to witness, it is more disheartening to know that we have done little in the wake of Columbine to stop future violence in school yards,” says Sarah Ingersoll, Executive Director for NCAYV. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims of this despicable act. Our pleas go out to all Americans to call on our leaders to take immediate measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.”

Violence remains the single greatest threat to the health and safety of young people in the U. S. Each day more than 14,000 young people are victims of violent acts: bullying, fights, taunting, cliques, harassment, hate crimes, assaults, beatings, stabbings, injuries, rape, shootings, suicides, homicides. An average of ten Americans under the age of 19 are murdered each day. In Philadelphia alone, more than 400 firearms and 336 knives were confiscated during the 1999-2000 school year.

Robert F. X. Sillerman, Executive Chairman, FXM, and member of the NCAYV Board, says, “Youth violence must stop. Through NCAYV, concerned people in the music and entertainment industry are marshalling their resources to communicate to adults and youth this critical message.”

The National Campaign Against Youth Violence is a 501(c)3 organization founded on a simple premise: solutions exist to greatly reduce youth violence in our country. NCAYV’s unique role is to use the nation’s creative communications resources to increase awareness of, and investment in, solutions. NCAYV efforts include a national media campaign, and national events such as concerts and movie screenings, including Saturday Out Loud – a local event, staged in malls across the country, that rallies youth to action through a concert, forum, fashion show, web pledge, and sports activity.

Attention Editors: There are many programs across the United States working to end youth violence. If you would like more information about local programs operating in your area contact Sarah Ingersol.

The Poynter Institute Names Development Director

The Poynter Institute Names Development Director

Former journalist and Corporation for Public Broadcasting executive, Ann W. Madsen, will lead development efforts at The Poynter Institute.

St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) April 6, 2009

The Poynter Institute, one of the nation's top schools for professional journalists and media leaders, has announced the appointment of Ann W. Madsen of Manlius, N. Y., as director of development. In this capacity, Madsen will serve as the chief development officer for the school. She reports to the institute's president, Dr. Karen B. Dunlap, and Butch Ward, managing director.

"The appointment of Ann Madsen as development director signals a new era for Poynter as we evolve with the news industry," said Dr. Dunlap. "Ann's experience across academic, corporate and nonprofit sectors is the ideal fit for our mission and financial needs."

Madsen, who spent a decade as a working journalist, was most recently vice president of corporate advancement at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in Central New York. She'll help carry forward the vision of Nelson Poynter, who as chairman of the St. Petersburg Times, founded the Institute in 1975. Major funding for the Institute comes from Times dividends, an investment account and program tuition, as well as grants and individual contributions. Madsen will seek to advance the development program, now in its fifth year. She will focus on major gifts.

Poynter believed journalism was a "sacred trust and a great privilege" and that journalism and democracy are best served under local, independent media ownership. Today, the Institute provides on-site and online training to thousands of journalists, media leaders, educators and citizens every year.

A graduate of Trinity College in Burlington, Vt., Madsen began her career as a reporter for the Syracuse Newspapers. She went on to work in editorial capacities at two other New York newspapers and was one of the first women appointed an editor for the Gannett Group's Observer-Dispatch in Utica, N. Y. Her career transitioned from journalism to public relations and marketing and eventually led to senior-level positions in fund development. She was director of marketing for Mutual of New York's Health Insurance Division, associate vice president of Institutional Advancement at Cazenovia College and chief advancement officer for the largest human services agency in Syracuse. Before moving to Florida, she served as interim executive director for Cornell University's cooperative extension operation in Onondaga County.

Madsen has been the recipient of numerous national awards for marketing and communications. She is the recipient of multiple honors for community service.
