Thousands of Ex-Banana Workers Will Assemble for Workers Human Rights in Nicaragua Due To DBCP Pesticide Exposure
There will be an assembly of thousands of ex-banana workers at the professional baseball stadium in Chinandega, Nicaragua on May 14 at 9:00.a. m. that were exposed to dbcp (dibromocloropropane) chemicals manufactured and used by United States multinational corporations in the 1970s and are currently in litigation in Nicaragua and in the United States for sterility, cancer, birth defects and other injuries.

S.A. based multi-national corporations.

On Sunday, May 14, 2006 at 9:00a. m. in the city of Chinandega, Nicaragua at the professional baseball stadium Efrain Tijerino Mazariego there will be an assembly of thousands of ex-banana workers claimants of exposure to dbcp (dibromocloropropane) chemicals.
Chinandega is epicenter to the huge banana industry operated by the U. S.A. based multinational corporations and where the majority of the “affected” workers still reside, and where these corporations knowingly harmful use of these dangerous chemicals occurred in the 1970s. Transportation will also be provided to the ex-banana workers from different parts of the country. Leaders of various claimant groups (Capitanes) from local municipalities throughout the nation have organized notification and transportation for the event.
Invited speakers include the lead attorneys from United States and Nicaragua, Nicaraguan Ministry of Human Rights, lead activist leaders, majority membership leader of officially recognized association of ex-banana workers (ATBEN), President of Nicaraguan Assembly, Attorney General for the Environment, Ministry of Health, and presidential candidates for the Nicaraguan November 2006 presidential elections.
