New gym/rehabilitation equipment the VibroGym helping those with spinal injuries

(PRWEB) November 12, 2004 -

Vivian is 49 years old and from May 1997 to 2003 was a Paraplegic. Whilst in her full time role as a Police Officer investigating a burglary she fell out of a first floor window and broke her back. She was told that she would never walk again by the Spinal Injury Unit at Salisbury and she would be confined to a wheelchair.

Vivien refused to believe it and from her first day out of bed she spent every moment exercising. When she left the hospital seven months later she could walk a few steps with the aid of crutches. Vivien then went to the National Rehabilitation Centre for the Paralysed for therapy. After three months she walked with two sticks. She continued her treatment for another five and a half years. However in February 2004, she went to the BodyWorkshop in Gloucester and was introduced to a new innovative piece of gym/rehabilation equipment called a VibroGym. The improvement has been enormous.

Vivian doesn’t need to train on the VibroGym as long as she would with conventional training, which means less muscle damage is caused and hormonal production is increased. There is also a greater effect of the training. One 12 minute workout on the VibroGym burns more fat and creates more muscle than 1 ½ hours conventional training. Additionally, this is achieved with minimal stress on her joints, tendon and ligaments.

Vivian is now walking with one stick and can walk short distances without sticks. Her overall strength, balance and proprioception are greatly improved. For the first time since her accident she has muscle definition in her hamstrings and lower legs. The oedema in her legs is greatly reduced, her circulation has improved and she has lost a stone in weight. VibroGym has been an essential part of her life and she now advises every disabled person to have one.

The ‘VibroGym’ vibrates 4,000 times a minute transferring energy to Vivian’s body triggering rapid muscle contractions. This causes a stretch reflex that changes between 30-60 times a second depending on which frequency you choose. The intense, repetitive contractions this elicits will fatigue the muscles and in recovery the muscles will re-build stronger to withstand the increased effort.

The VibroGym is also helping people with Spina Bifida, MS, Cerebral Palsy, Lower Back Pain, Arthritis and Osteoporosis.
